In this seven-part series we revisit the days of Syracuse University athletics before the Carrier/ JMA Wireless Dome era.
This isn’t in any way a comprehensive history of that time, but merely a look at some of the achievements of a group of athletes I was able to connect with from December 2022 to June 2023.
All too often the radiance of the present diminishes the brilliance of the past. “WHERE THEY DON’T PLAY THE GAMES ANYMORE” is an attempt to perpetuate the enduring legacy of some of Syracuse University’s finest athletes from the past.

I was at the last game (SU alum ‘69, Business major, DU fraternity). My friends and I helped tear down the goal post. One guy I was with caught the post across the face. He ended up in the hospital getting his broken nose reset. It was one hell of a party especially ripping down the old scoreboard. Lots of people even took pieces of the stadium concrete for souvenirs.
