Happy to see this video is still resonating! Tennis is the best sport in the world. I have come a long way from this video and have documented the whole journey as well as fun tennis challenges and stories about cool courts on the channel. Check it out! Thanks so much for watching!
What are the odds I just came from your latest vid and wanted to check what a 3.0 Plays like. Great improvement Trey, always look forward to the Sunday Sets!
dudes! we gave feedback and you listened! I have no idea why I'm so invested in you guys playing but I think maybe it's fun to see the enthusiasm and improvement. what a great match today. and F that dog! she should've at least tied him up.
I didn't expect 3.0 tennis to be such a feel-good experience, but I found myself rooting for both guys. From complimenting each other in the middle of points to apologizing to viewers for shot selection, it was really fun. Keep playing guys, you'll get better fast.
I love this channel. It is one of the only channels where we get to see mere mortals playing tennis and It is awesome to watch you guys get better. I am excited for the day where you guys make coaching videos, because if you continue with this improvement, and grind that day will come.
Awesome playing, duders. Don't listen to RUclips comment coaches. Even 4.5 and 5.0s on RUclips get dudes in the comments telling them what part of their game needs improved. Everyone's game is different. If Trey struggles to return your forehand slice, then hit that forehand slice, my man! Trying to change too many things at once is a recipe for disaster. You've both gotten way better in a short period of time just doing what you're doing. Keep at it!
This is so much fun to watch. More fun than watching elite players. The video editing was fantastic. The scoreboard was a great addition. The microphones were great quality. And you guys had good commentary. Well done!
By far the best quality tennis I've seen on this channel. Jake, there is a chop you use at 13:13 and that was all due to footwork. Footwork fixes a lot of things, footwork and body placement, but that's something that comes with time. Speaking of footwork, Trey, if you have the time, work on split-step cross-step when you volley. You seem to do it on your forehand, just add that to your backhand side. 5:23 is an example of footwork and a rigid grip reduces the quality of your volley. Jake, it was great to see the deep topspin forehands and Trey, it was great to see you moving up in the court. The week when Jake stops using the chop, you start moving forward. I appreciate the irony. There was a second serve at 17:33 where you moved forward and stayed forward for the return, FINALLY!!!! A lot of this gets better with time and practice. I think we all believe you are trying, I think we all want you to get better and after seeing the change in match 11 to 12, I'm excited to see what matches 13-15+ have to offer. Keep it up!
Tennis coach here! To Jake: alot of your swings are coming off your back foot, and your front foot will come off the ground. If anything, you want to be doing the opposite of that! Try to keep your shoulders parallel to the sideline. There was one hit around 4:30 that you did a good job of hitting off your front foot, and it had MUCH more power to it, you just hit it slightly low and it hit the net.
As newbies, it's great to see you not be afraid to take on any shot and have decent rallies on most points - amazing! Both of you have such a great attitude on court, too. First time I've watched and Trey, that serve is so good for a beginner player, trust me. So much good stuff in this vid. Keep it up! That dog was a joke - at the very least, it should be leashed up to the side fence; a coach MUST know better than that.
That was the best sunday set ever, congratulations guys! You guys are improving, and i have to say thanks for Jake to listen to the comments, we wanted that Jake that hit all the shots that's possible, althought u lost we are happy to see it, and Jake u don't have to say sorry, almost all the slices hit (a.k.a. chops 😂) were useful and the best weapon for the situation. As a casual player and a fan, i gonna give my advices that i think are useful, i think i already talked about it, but Trey you have to change your volley grip, for volleying, serving, slicing, the continental grip it's the most useful, as i see u don't make any change on the way of holding the racket when volleying, the grip used for the forehand isn't the same as volleying, i'm don't know about your serve, could have the same problem, but in volley it's clear the problem, change it and u instant gonna see some diferences, that advice comes to Jake too, he probably have this grip change problem. And Jake to be honest what used to make u win a lot of the points was put Trey in the net, don't stop using short balls, they seems to be a nice weapon against Trey, the problem was slicing everyball that was possible to forehand/backhand, u could try to learn some dropshots, angled balls, one of Trey weakness are the net, even if Trey fix the grip problem it's too dificulty to learn to play at the net as a beginner. In general congrats guys, the feedback of everyone seems to be positive, we loving the content, keep it up!
♥♥♥♥♥ - Guys lots of love from the UK. I started 3 years ago and reminds me of the games when we played at start. Whether you keep playing like this or improve technically, what really matters is you guys are enjoying it. Thats the beauty of Tennis, you can enjoy it at any level. Im sure by now you have both improved with either a coach or self taught, but either way, keep the love for the game in your hearts. I wont tell you what to improve on, etc, because you already have good people advising you on that. However you can immediately improve tactically by targeting/aim at each others weakness. (BH, going x-Court to one side to another, Bring in short, high balls etc) Feel free to reach out. Big respect to both of you. If ever in UK London, hit me up for a hit
For beginners you guys are very good to be honest! You guys don’t have to care what the comments say in the end of the day many people still enjoy your videos! love when jake lost the match but still being positive~ great tennis from both! trey played the shot of the day in my opinion but jake also hit some good shots! love this channel! keep the great work!
Amazing set of tennis, so fun to watch. One thing you both could start implementing is doing the split step as your opponent hits the ball, just helps getting to the ball quicker and better footwork. And I personally feel like Trey had so many soft short easy balls coming towards him, some of which I would have dropshotted. Now I know the technique requires a good touch, and is easily punished when it's not done very well, but I'd like to see him try to learn a really good and also well hidden dropshot
Well played Trey. What a way to break that losing streak. My tip would be to do some drills where you aim for cones set up at the angles so you are not hitting so much down the middle. Keep it up. You guys are my favourite tennis channel.
Best Sunday set yet guys. Agree about the frustration with the dog. I love dogs, but that was ridiculous. Played a few weeks back and we had some pickleballers bring their dog. Had a couple tennis courts between us, but their dog felt the need to drop a deuce on the court next to us... Owner didn't even clean it up... Unbelievable. Jake, I know you wanted to chip and chop, but good on you for properly putting in the effort on the groundstrokes. You played really well. Proper groundstrokes will be much better weapons as you advance vs the "chop." Trey, well done man. Congrats on the 'W.' Keeping the ball in play and making Jake play one more point. Nice. Some good rallies/points played today. Both of you can be proud of this set. Just one critique. Talking during points. You may want to wait to the end of the point to compliment the other side. Maybe they can't hear you on the other side of the net, but generally tennis etiquette dictates that you are not allowed to talk during points. It may not matter now when playing with your friends, but if it becomes habit, and you make comment during a league/match play, you can be called for hindrance. Talking under your breath is usually not an issue, but if it is loud enough to interfere, it would be called.

Congrats trey!!! I’m still waiting to see if your backhand switch is going to pay off, but it’s awesome to watch you guys improve!!
Definitely the best set I've seen y'all play! As beginners (I've only been playing for 6 months too) have y'all considered playing first serve in? I find it helpful so that I can get serve practice in while playing a set. Also I'm in the austin area so I know how bad the sun can be, so we'll only serve from the better side facing away from the sun so that we're not blinding ourselves when we serve. Not sure if everyone else watching would like these ideas but for me I enjoy watching y'all improve and those things could potentially help.
Great match guys! Always have non-polarized sunglasses (polarized lenses can mess with your depth perception) in your tennis bag, they are super helpful on a sunny day like that.
Trey, the serve and the forehand are starting to look good. Jake, good job on the forehand, if you just put a little top spin on it, kinda like Trey does, you'll keep most of them in. Great jobs staying with it. Also, that jumping forehand was awesome. Don't be afraid of that backhand, it's actually looking really good, just needs more topspin.
Good stuff bros, idk if either of you don’t mind it, and that’s why you do it, but talking during points could be distracting for the other player. I noticed a couple of mistakes were made after the other person spoke. If y’all don’t care, who cares! If y’all play in some tourneys they’ll call you on voice lets. Keep grinding.
Going top spin definitely played more into Trey's game. He had to move way more against the chop. It's good to even use the match play to practice certain skills. I've always found playing sets to not improve my tennis technique as much as drills for specific shots (although playing matches is a whole other skill).
Jake, one thing I saw on your groundstrokes is that you are falling back sometimes when you hit it, make sure you are moving forward through the ball. Finish up moving toward the net, not stepping backward on follow through.
Considering your level being relative beginners, this was an excellent match! There were the expected errors, but you guys had a lot of good long points, too! Yeah, that dog was not cool. I wouldn't have put up with it... I have a guy I play with who brings his dog, but he puts her on a long least outside the fence....
Loved this video! You should actually hit with backspin if u feel the shot is fast or u are a little late in position; ideally you would want to use the forehand most of the time but when you are a little lite chop it.
Trey, keep being aggressive and coming up to the net when you have a clear advantage. You probably need a lesson on proper volley technique, but keep coming in even before your technique improves. It's the correct strategy, and great habit to build. Coming up to the net often is going to improve your volleys as well.
Awesome stuff! I'd feel better about the court layout if they actually put the 2 courts closer together...like maybe overlap it so that both courts share the same alley. Also...is the net supposed to be 8 ft high in the center? Raise it up a few inches! Seriously though...nice hitting for 3.0!
Jake, at the end of the day, winning is what matters. If you find that chopping everything works as a tactic, then chop everything. However, as you progress, you will find that the chop will get less and less effective. As much as I respect you setting criteria for yourself at the beginning to try to hit more topspin strokes, I feel like that contributed to your loss. Now, in order to develop your ground stokes, keep practicing and doing what you’re doing: practice good technique and then over time the strokes will come out naturally.
That woman who took dog on tennis court frustrated me. You cant see a dog when running and can fall and hurt yourself or the dog, very dangerous to bring animal on the court.
Hey Trey, great playing by you and Jake both. I'm not sure if this is just by habit or if you just don't know, but it appears that you're using the same grip for your forehand as your 1-handed backhand. This is not the correct way to hit it; you need to be using the eastern backhand grip. I recommend you look it up as it will really help your backhand improve a lot.
so i am about a 3(ish) UTR 13 year year old and i live down in houston but we may be coming up to austin this summer. if you get the free time over the summer i would love to play against you!
Hey there! I just watched your video, and I found it super interesting! 😊 By the way, I think you might get even more positive feedback if you change the title from "3.0" to "2.0/2.5." Just a little suggestion to make it even better! Keep up the good work! 👍it is great to have a frd who love playing tennis too
At 2:30 you ran around your backhand and said that it was wrong. Tennis is not about always making the correct decision 100% of the time, tennis is about making the correct decision in the moment and you have to rely on your instincts for that. The inside out forehand you hit was great, it was deep and penetrating. There’s no reason to feel bad about running around your backhand. It was the right call in the moment
Some side teaching notes first. 1) Besides the dog the other thing the coach did wrong is that she entered the court when a point was in progress. Always enter or leave the court between points. It’s common tennis courtesy. 2) If a dog, ball or some other legitimate distraction/impediment enters the playing area call a audible “”Let”. 3) Don’t make it a habit of catching out balls even if it’s obviously out. When you start playing official matches you may mistakenly do that out of habit. Then the other player can claim the point. They probably won’t, but why open a can of worms unnecessarily. Jake this dissing of slice ground strokes has got to stop. I’d start by stop calling them “Choppers” that’s pure amateur city terminology. Slice or under spin is more appropriate. On second thought it adds to the character of the channel, keep it. I know people will argue “but how is he going to improve?”. As long as you’re working on topspin ground strokes in a non match setting in practice you’re ok. Eventually you’ll own the topspin ground strokes in practice, then you can work on owning them in a scored match. I’m not saying to never hit topspin in a match if you feel comfortable attempting it. My main point is that to outlaw yourself from hitting a legitimate tennis shot in a match is ridiculous. It’s like Trey jumping through hoops to avoid hitting backhands. Yes I’ve stated that it hurts his court positioning but as long as he’s working hard on his backhand in practice it’s ok for now to do in a match. Treys backhand and your topspin ground strokes will be a product of your practice regiment. If you don’t work to develop/create them in practice no amount of trying to do them in a match is going to magically make them appear. My philosophy on a match is that it’s a test that shows what shots you know and own. If your unable to reliably produce a given shot in a match it tells you that you should be working on it more diligently in practice. Secondly you play a match to win it. Jake #2 recommend Brad Gilbert’s book “Winning Ugly.” It’s better to win ugly than to lose being pretty. If you want to be prettier then work harder and smarter in practice. Miss America looks good on stage because of all the work she put in off stage (plus good genes). Jake by not employing every means at your disposal to beat Trey your also robbing him of a avenue for improvement. If Trey can’t handle slice shots that’s a Trey problem. He should learn to deal with it from his side. In fact I suggest this Sunday Set be annulled. It was played with Jake having a illegitimate handicap placed on him. Frankly Jake, even your slice forehand and backhand need a lot of work. They are far from the weapons/tools that they can potentially become. That’s actually a good idea for a vid. Have Cleave Harper from your vid “Can you return a D1 serve, Win a 100$” or even Jake #2 come and play a set against one of you with the stipulation that they can only hit slice ground strokes. And tell them not to go easy on you. They should try for a maximum humiliation win. This will show you how a higher level player hits and can use slice. It’s not a scrub shot but rather a invaluable tool that all good players must possess or its absence can be exploited by other good players. Watch some MEP matches on the RUclips channel “Tennis Troll”. He’s a guy that is the ultimate “Pusher”, but he’s a legitimate 4.5 level player. I’m not saying to adopt his playing style. But if you study his matches you can glean a lot of tennis truths. Every player he plays against has a prettier game than him so all his wins are ugly. Even in the rare matches that he he looses by a lopsided score his opponent has to work hard and use good strategies. Nobody casually wipes this guy off the court. Split steps people come on! It may not seem that important now, especially since most of the shots you now face are so slow that even flat footed you can easily deal with them. But in the future this will not be the case. Split step now for the opponents of the future.

you're the man jerry - thank you!
Really fun match to watch. Cutting down the time between points and mic'ing up both players makes it so enjoyable, great video
I didn't expect 3.0 tennis to be such a feel-good experience, but I found myself rooting for both guys. From complimenting each other in the middle of points to apologizing to viewers for shot selection, it was really fun. Keep playing guys, you'll get better fast.
Man, this is awesome. I have always wanted to have a friend that wants to grow in tennis ability. Definitely motivates both of you guys.
I love this channel. It is one of the only channels where we get to see mere mortals playing tennis and It is awesome to watch you guys get better. I am excited for the day where you guys make coaching videos, because if you continue with this improvement, and grind that day will come.

Tons of improvement in this one, you guys looked great. Keep it up!

congrats Trey your hard work is clearly paying off! You guys are my favorite tennis players :)
The shot consistency is increasing! Great job guys.
What tennis coach just walks on the cour during a point?!?!
This is so much fun to watch. More fun than watching elite players. The video editing was fantastic. The scoreboard was a great addition. The microphones were great quality. And you guys had good commentary. Well done!

Love this wholesome tennis content. So relatable. Subscribed!
Thank you for sharing. Life is good when you find a loyal hitting partner that is at a similar level. They are hard to find. Keep up the good work!
As newbies, it's great to see you not be afraid to take on any shot and have decent rallies on most points - amazing! Both of you have such a great attitude on court, too. First time I've watched and Trey, that serve is so good for a beginner player, trust me.

I can't believe you guys are "beginners." Impressive! That was fun to watch. I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel. Thanks!
They’re definitely not beginners.
Amazing set of tennis, so fun to watch.

this is absolutely fantastic broskis keep it up
battle of the forehands haha nice vid
Great match guys! Always have non-polarized sunglasses (polarized lenses can mess with your depth perception) in your tennis bag, they are super helpful on a sunny day like that.
I came for the demo and stayed for the positive comments 🙌🏼 we all need that type of positivity, love the community
Fun watching people learning like myself
Great set!
Be sure you guys stand on the right sides (deuce/ad). in 4th set, it happened since 0-30
Much better tennis than last week. Nice stuff. Work on adding more top spin & pace through full swing preparation and full follow through.
Great stuff
Great video! Btw when Jake caught the ball as it was going out it was actually Treys point bc he touched the ball

Both players know tennis fundamental strategies and I hope you guys progress soon. thanks
Going top spin definitely played more into Trey's game. He had to move way more against the chop. It's good to even use the match play to practice certain skills. I've always found playing sets to not improve my tennis technique as much as drills for specific shots (although playing matches is a whole other skill).
Great match boyz!
What amazing tennis
Keep grinding fellas💪🎾🥂
omg the courts are so close to each other and the fences 😱
Jake, one thing I saw on your groundstrokes is that you are falling back sometimes when you hit it, make sure you are moving forward through the ball. Finish up moving toward the net, not stepping backward on follow through.
The woman who brought her dog is low class.
You should actually hit with backspin if u feel the shot is fast or u are a little late in position; ideally you would want to use the forehand most of the time but when you are a little lite chop it.
damn you grew a lot
remember me when you get big
been there since 91 subs (about)
Jake is pretty quick. Good come back as well, way to hold your nerve Trey.
you guys are so kind and considerate to each other its pissing me off 😂
Trey, keep being aggressive and coming up to the net when you have a clear advantage.
Hi, hopefully you see recent comments on older videos. But i was wondering what camera you use to record this match!
yall should consider playing best of 3 fast-4 sets
Jake, at the end of the day, winning is what matters. If you find that chopping everything works as a tactic, then chop everything. However, as you progress, you will find that the chop will get less and less effective. As much as I respect you setting criteria for yourself at the beginning to try to hit more topspin strokes, I feel like that contributed to your loss. Now, in order to develop your ground stokes, keep practicing and doing what you’re doing: practice good technique and then over time the strokes will come out naturally.
I just doing athletic stance. So a split step. It’s very essential in tennis. I can kinda see them but not really. So I suggest working on those.
Further Trey, with your backhand if you are going to hit a 1 handed backhand finish over your head, it should be like an umbrella.
Pretty good for 3.0... especially Treys serve...
thats what you call 'beginner tennis" ?? You guys are pretty good!
What is chopping? Is it different from a slice?
That woman who took dog on tennis court frustrated me. You cant see a dog when running and can fall and hurt yourself or the dog, very dangerous to bring animal on the court.
Fun to see playera of same level me
Why do you kinda sound and look like linguine from ratatouille 😂😂 hood work fellas
Hey Trey, great playing by you and Jake both. I'm not sure if this is just by habit or if you just don't know, but it appears that you're using the same grip for your forehand as your 1-handed backhand. This is not the correct way to hit it; you need to be using the eastern backhand grip. I recommend you look it up as it will really help your backhand improve a lot.
why are they avoiding backhands?
hi i am trying to rate myself. are you guys level 3.0?
Curious what tension their racquets are strung at? Sound very tight
Just don't have dampeners. It's a terrible sound.
Anybody know why the extreme western grip is so prevalent in the US?
Я всегда считал себя слабым игроком. Не дотягивающим и до 3.0-3.5.
Но теперь, глядя на них, могу с уверенностью заявить, что мой уровень не ниже 4.0
On the volley try to step forward on it and block it that will make it go a lot deeper
Also don’t stand deep on the volley you want to be right at the net
Is this utr 3.0?
You def couldve asked her to put the dog on a leash. So rude of her
just wack the dog bro thats the lady's problem
so i am about a 3(ish) UTR 13 year year old and i live down in houston but we may be coming up to austin this summer. if you get the free time over the summer i would love to play against you!
dude we'd love to play you! message us on instagram so we can get this set up @winnersonlytennis
yeah this is about my skill level
Ion understand Americans haahahah saying sorry for a slice but not for a net 👀
Congrats tho keep up 🎉
It's a shame Jake quit tennis. Would have been nice to see how you guys developed opposite playing styles.
I think both are 3.5 or at least near 3.5 if Trey has better net volley skills and Jake be stronger and more consistent at serves
Man good time. Cute dog!
9:00 you sure about that ? lol
Hey there! I just watched your video, and I found it super interesting! 😊 By the way, I think you might get even more positive feedback if you change the title from "3.0" to "2.0/2.5." Just a little suggestion to make it even better! Keep up the good work! 👍it is great to have a frd who love playing tennis too
Moaning isn't mandatory lol
At 2:30 you ran around your backhand and said that it was wrong. Tennis is not about always making the correct decision 100% of the time, tennis is about making the correct decision in the moment and you have to rely on your instincts for that. The inside out forehand you hit was great, it was deep and penetrating. There’s no reason to feel bad about running around your backhand. It was the right call in the moment
Jake my man, improve the first serve bro .. and see urself beating him easily
If Jake chops one more time i swear i'm gonna eat like trash for the whole week
Does that dog need to be there?
lol who brings their dog to a tennis court?
me💪🏼😤
People who don’t respect the tennis courts .
Me.. you think you just gonna enjoy life and not have ur pup there also?
I have a friend who does lol we love it and he’s trained not to go after tennis balls
@@jonnytree8972tell that to my club president. He brings his dog on the grass courts all the time.
You foot faulted on the second set
Dog owners with no sense of boundaries are an epidemic
Also you guys keep hitting back to the middle and letting the other player control the point
Heard Sunday Sets are scripted
uhh uhhh uhhh uhh making a bit too much noise for a 3.0, buddy.
