- Many subscribers have asked how I get successful interviews, why the interview subject responds to me with personal and emotional stories? This is the technique that I use, it requires active listening, which I define in this video.
This is the second of what will hopefully be many responses to questions and comments. I will be answering specific questions in videos to follow. Thank you all for your encouragement and if you are not a subscriber, please subscribe. And if so inclined, please support my efforts via my Patreon page. - / allinaday and Ko-Fi: ko-fi.com/alli... #interviews #davidhoffman #docu smentaryproduction
My heart smiles whenever I get to hear David talk
Same here, when i started following him long before pandemic, i always think that hes so underrated and wishing that more and more people discover this channel.
Someone with an artist's soul, such as you, has an innate desire to leave a legacy. Yours is in your documentaries that will be forever etched in our minds. On my part as well as yours, listening is the most important thing when someone is speaking to you. Too many don't listen but interject their own thoughts which is a bad idea. You come away learning nothing. I can relate as being a teacher required listening to my students and not talking all day long. Too many teachers do just that. And of story telling, it's a way of connecting to others-- you either get their attention or not but it's all in how you relate to the listener. Love the way you question to draw people out of their so-called shells. Everyone has a story to tell if you ask and listen. And you listen! Kudos David. I am in awe of you. ❤
I love your compassionate, unbiased, and thought provoking interviews. I think that we have to listen in all aspects of our life to get an accurate understanding of the situation at hand. Especially these days, one of the downsides of social media is that we get short, one-sided opinions without any in depth explanations; and many all too often leap to conclusions.
Love the photograph of you with the statue of the head with the bird on it!
This is very informative. I like the way you speak to us how you convey what you mean. You're not only an excellent filmmaker, cameraman, and interviewer you're an excellent teacher in your field as a filmmaker. Thank you, David Hoffman.😊🧡✌
Listening with an unbiased mind is a skill we should focus on as a people. Your interviews are top notch, and your eye is unmistakably gifted. Thank you Mr. Hoffman ✨
@MGMG-lc2fe... 😉👍🧡
Stay strong! Keep inspiring!
“One video a day. Forever.”

I am currently making a Documentary about online communities and how beautiful connection can be.
Thank you David for making this talk. It is reassuring to know that I am on the right track.
I think that is an excellent idea! Good luck to you with the documentary✌
@@JWF99 Thank you! I appreciate the kind words!
This has been some of the most valuable and appreciated information I've ever acquired, thank you for sharing, you're simply the best David! ❤✌
@JWF99... I agree with what you said here on all accounts my friend. 😊👍
@@drewpall2598 Yes sir, thank ya Drew! ☺👍
There is a great Werner Herzog clip where he talks about getting to the heart of an interview with a death row chaplain.
The chaplain talked about human duty and god's will... and squirrels.
So Herzog, absolutely not personally interested in squirrels, asked about the chaplain's view of squirrels.
The chaplain broke down crying about potentially harming a squirrel, comparing them to the inmates whose deaths he could not forefend.
Herzog could never have imagined the statement about squirrels or what it could lead to or how important it really was to that chaplain, and he could not have guessed his audience might care about the chaplain's opinion about squirrels, but something about his dialog made Herzog have to ask about the squirrels.

Hello David most professionals lost the independet view. As a example my musican freinds hear other music with a analytic brain.
So they ask me how did i find it, what i hear and feel. I am not a musican only a Blues fan.
That is the reasion, while i found you. Yes in Germany you find real big Blues fans and clubs.
I love your work and will send you a picture taken by my Grandpa ..
Thx for your work .. best wishes
Brilliant techniques David. Listening is becoming a rare trait.
Like hearing what you went thru to get some folks to 'talk'. It doesn't come easy for everyone!❤
I love this advice. I have been wondering how to make a story interesting as I tell it to my daughter who is occasionally interviewing me online for posterity. I sent her the link as well. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing this! Today I had helped someone move some wood, and when we were done, I just sat and listened to the other guys talking. I always enjoy doing that. It may not be anything important, but it’s nice, but I don’t know if it’ll help my story telling skills, like talking. But I do enjoy typing stories, like recently I made a post about an old steamer named George M. Humphrey that sank and was raised and sailed for 40 more years! (I’d share it, but the links never send for some reason!) With creativity, however, I think I’m good at that. Currently I’m reading a book about WWI by Peter Hart, and he mentions the Mesopotamia Campaign, and how the British advanced without consolidating their supply lines. McClellan usually is criticized for doing that, but had he not, he probably would’ve failed just like the British did!
Your speech has improved so much 😊
It's good to hear .
Thank you ⚘️
It‘s always fascinating listening to you. There is so much to learn from you. Thanks a lot 👍

Well, it was nice. 🤣😂🤣
Nothing has changed in thousands of years. People in the light, whether projector light, theatrical light or firelight, telling stories to people sitting in the dark. Stories of the human experience, wisdom to be shared about the human condition. It’s a fundamental currency that cannot be devalued.
Excellent commentary and insightful! Also, quite inspiring. Thank you!
Sometimes the journey,IS the destination
This is great. Thank you
Great stuff!
