The section from 25:00 to 26:00 was composed by record producer and session musician Big Jim Sullivan. He also appeared on the episode "The Troubled Spirit" That same year (1975) he co-produced Angel's debut album.

Barry Gray's theme and incidental music has a more bombastic and operatic feel to it. It's also more "spooky" (Season one's " End of Eternity" and "Force of Life " are prime examples) Whereas Derek Wadsworth introduced a significant element of jazz fusion for season two.

There were some psychedelic visuals going on on the main view screen while the music played just before the character Magus showed up. They also used the same music on "Brian the Brain" when Koenig was was in his spacesuit walking on the surface of the planet.
Don't compare Barry's SUPERB atmospheric music style to the 70's jazz / funk electro style of Wadsworth... there isn't any. Barry gray wins hands down everytime! The two seasons are vastly different: the only thing in common is the name and several of the regular cast actors who got to stay on after a character cull thanks to the new American producer Fred Frielberger who destroyed what little reputation the show had.
Agreed, the two composers and seasons are like comparing apples and oranges. Although, some of Wadsworth's cues have grown on me over time. He wrote some introspective passages (36:52 & 35:28) which are very haunting and effective in many scenes, while some of the more energetic ones have raised a few hairs of excitement on the back of my neck. Other Wadsworth cues, however, make me want to gag, particularly the horrid, sugary teenybopperish closing music (32:13), which replaced Grey's classic introspective closing theme used at the end of season 1 episodes. Both Grey and Wadsworth are very talented composers, but Grey's scores are epic, timeless and untouchable.
I have the first season music score on cd but a lot of it isn't B G music as the used a lot of stock music and also classical.
