I piloted the Barbarossa as one of my very first mechs. There's a particular style of play known in the community as an "OC loop", where you stabilize every single turn in order to reload (and clear heat) and then skirmish with one big gun using overcharge - you really want the HA core bonus that caps heat from overcharge at 1d6 for this. The Barbarossa can do this pretty well since it has a high heat cap and a heavy mount, but there's also a variant of this where it fires a Superheavy and then overcharges to reload using the drone or the external ammo feeds. Naturally you generate a *phenomenal amount* of heat doing this, so you also want to invest in Engineering, and either take a break every couple of turns to stabilize, or pick up some systems like the Genghis Autocooler or Sherman RSU if you can (and/or use Black Thumb) to help with heat management. It can be a risky playstyle but it's great for getting the absolute most out of your available actions.
One thing that's worth adding about the Siege Cannon in siege mode is that it's blast 2, which is surprisingly big. It generates a lot of heat for sure, but you can usually hit two or even more enemies with a single shot, so it pays for itself in terms of additional damage output (and if you can't, well there's always direct fire).

4 turns is a long time in a game where missions typically end in 6-8 turns.

Probably worth someone mentioning that Ordnance doesn't mean you can't move during your turn. You can't do anything but protocols *BEFORE* you fire an ordnance weapon, but you can still fire the weapon first *THEN* do other things. With a superheavy weapon, that means movement and free actions only, but it's not as restrictive as the special property on the Apocalypse Rail.

Not one for me. Not sure I could be patient enough to play it just standing still and playing artillery.
