SEAL Team 6 & the Al-Ghayil Operation | January 2017

- In January 2017, a Task Force comprising of U.S. Navy SEALs from SEAL Team 6, reinforced by a team of Emirati Commandos, was inserted onto a Landing Zone in Western Yemen. After touching down, this Force moved off on foot to cover the 8km to their objective, which was a compound in the small village of Al-Ghayil. Almost immediately, however, the mission began to unravel. This is the story of that fateful, and largely forgotten, operation.

Just a note that AQAP = Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
Appreciate the intel, Sir. Just goes even further, in detail, to prove that soldiers and operators are not necessarily heroes, despite (for the majority of them, at least at present, while the sharp tip of the spear is being reconfigured into a gender-weird self-hatred that drives away patriots, and invites even more murderous perverts), their mostly undoubted valor.
Following orders and executing objectives is their main mission, but when, as is all too often, even almost always the case, they are used unwisely as expensively and easily expended pawns, it is often a waste.
"Not though the soldier knew
Someone had blundered.
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die."
But when it's not blunder, but nasty murder?
When they are used as agents of murder against noncombatants, especially children, it is an unblottable sin. When they are employed thusly, it demeans their oaths, and casts not only doubt and discouragement among their own ranks, and the civil populace that supports them, but on the whole business.
Would it be such a shame, if the cashiered cadres who sensibly refused the C-19 shots, regrouped, trained auxiliaries, and deprived the current masters who so degrade us all, of their commands?
Hypothetically, of course.
No shit 😂
All Qops are Peaceful
thank you for telling it how it is and sticking with the facts and thank you for covering the fuck ups as well as the successes.
Yeah it's good to see it objectively covered. Including the coverage of the murdering of a child, you know they had night vision, they just didn't want the boy to tip anyone off. Self preservation, even if it means killing a child. Not to mention the rest of the village.
Sounds like a similar dilemma with Operation Redwing when they ran into the village man.

Their should be many more from early to mid GWOT coming out soon too
Start with the operation where the US blew up the nordstream pipeline
We might not even need a few years. With how many people were involved with the early parts of the war, and how much footage there is, people have already been piecing together early battles and engagements. I wouldn't be surprised if they could put together an episode on the war already.
As long as the irrefutable evidence exists, he will cover it! Just hope it ends soon so we can be done with this war BS
Thank you for posting this. RIP Chief Owens and the civilians who lost their lives.
This sounded like a shit sandwich that everyone took a bite of. Nothing wrong with calling something off, but for this mission, it didn't seem to be in the cards that day.
Yeah...
Operations were being conducted before this raid as well, so all locals and terrorist in the whole region knew there was a American presence before the raid. So they the terrorist were already on edge.....

Yeah you missed the point shooting unarmed children cannot be excused with it was just a bad situation these DEVGRU monsters should be locked up

I applaud you for recognizing and respecting the lost civilians in this and not just the military casualties. I am a huge supporter of our troops and special operators but it is absolutely gut wrenching reading the ages and names of the little children that died that mission... Those are someone's babies and are the definition of the innocent lives, regardless if their parents were likely terrorists.
Likely terrorists lol, tell that to 11 year old Ahmed with the bullet in his chest. You guys are DEFINETLY terrorists.
Just denying the enemy future recruits. > Seals, probably.
They just took out the trash before it started to stink.
We, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, try our damndest to avoid civilian casualties, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN!!! That being said, however, IF THAT CHILD OR, CHILDREN take up arms, they WILL GET DISPATCHED WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE!!!
I don't think I've seen civilian names included at the end of something like this before. Well done on even finding them
Most of the time civilians are just numbers on a paper that contribute towards a statistic
What General Votel's said in his debrief is exactly what inspires confidence. Errors and failures occur and it is important to adress them and transform them into valuable lessons. Politicians could learn from that as soon as we as a society accept behaviour like this as a virtue and not a weakness.
Agreed, admitting fuckups is part of the process, glad he acknowledged that instead of lying about everything
Yep this totally gave me a big boost in confidence. MERICA BABY.
Thx for putting tbe names of the civilians killed, the poor kids caught in the middle of this madness.
What a cover-up! The mission was compromised, but SOMEBODY decided to continue anyway. Anybody ever hear those Ospreys? They are loud AF. How much intel could they gather while retreating under fire from what amounts to a pre-positioned ambush? What a crock of stuff. And the cherry on top is Spicer using the deceased hero's name to try and suppress discussion around what was actually accomplished. Despicable.

I was on the makin island that was supporting operations in that AO. Months before and after jsoc were doing operations in the area off of our ship with either recon or marine infantry platoons on stand by, ready to roll for qrf for various SOF operations.
Thank you for acknowledging this mission and making a video about it. This is one that makes you reflect about our MENA foreign policy and how far we should be going militarily in that region. These missions are often performed under the guise of “protecting Americans” but that has seemingly become more and more vague over the years as an excuse to execute these missions that result in such vast civilian casualties, especially seeing how many children were killed
Civilian casualties do not matter when it happens to the enemys civilians.
If the troops would know about the politics and greed behind many operations, many would decline.
AQAP is a persistent threat to Americans around the world. Its been behind numerous plots to kill Americans such as:
1. 2009 Christmas Day "Underwear Bomber": In December 2009, AQAP attempted to carry out a terrorist attack on US soil when Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, a Nigerian national, tried to detonate explosives hidden in his underwear aboard a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. The attack was ultimately unsuccessful due to the device's malfunction, but it highlighted AQAP's ambition to target American interests directly.
2. 2010 Cargo Plane Bomb Plot: AQAP was also responsible for the October 2010 plot to send parcel bombs hidden in printer cartridges to the US aboard cargo planes. The plot was foiled after intelligence agencies intercepted the packages in the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. This incident illustrated AQAP's continued pursuit of innovative and sophisticated tactics to attack the US.
3. 2015 Charlie Hebdo Attack: While not directly targeting the US, AQAP claimed responsibility for the January 2015 attack on the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris. The attack, which killed 12 people and injured several others, was carried out by two brothers who were reportedly trained by AQAP in Yemen. This incident demonstrated AQAP's ability to inspire and train individuals to carry out attacks in Western countries, thereby posing an indirect threat to the US.
4. Inspire Magazine: AQAP has published an English-language online magazine called Inspire, which provides guidance on how to conduct attacks against the US and its allies. The magazine has included instructions for making explosives, as well as suggestions for potential targets. By disseminating this information, AQAP aims to inspire homegrown terrorists who may not have direct ties to the organization but share its extremist ideology.
5. Online radicalization: AQAP has also used social media and other online platforms to disseminate propaganda and recruit followers. The group has called for "lone-wolf" attacks by individuals who may be radicalized online, making it difficult for law enforcement to predict and prevent such incidents. The 2013 Boston Marathon bombing, carried out by two brothers who were reportedly inspired by AQAP's online content, is an example of the potential impact of online radicalization.
The ongoing conflict in Yemen has provided AQAP with a safe haven to regroup, plan, and launch attacks. The group has been able to exploit the chaos in Yemen to establish a stronghold in the country, from which it can train fighters, stockpile weapons, and potentially plot attacks against the US and its allies. The affiliation with al-Qaeda provides AQAP with access to resources, expertise, and a broader network of like-minded individuals and organizations, enhancing its capabilities and threat level.
I don't know what you're smoking, but AQAP is most definitely a threat to the United States and Americans regardless of where they are in the world. Better to deal with the problem over there than bring it over here, which would only lead to an even greater loss of civil liberties and freedoms.
@@VikingTeddy US troops aren't going to decline missions to kill jihadists. They may not agree with the overall strategy, but they do believe they're morally right (and they are).
@@michaelporter1924 It's about proportion with AQAP. It should stay as CIA/Specops territory, and then only when it involves the U.S. Regular military shouldn't be involved.
And as for declining. I meant the ops that *aren't* morally justified and of which we hear only years later (if we're lucky). Of course no soldier is going to refuse legal orders, even if they feel it's morally hazy, it's their job.
For example the couple of operations which were done solely on the request of Halliburton. Or if we go further back, the shit the U.S did in south America. You know, shady shit with the goal of making someone richer.

Sad both that Chief Owens and these poor kids and civilians were killed. fubar mission
Good video, but I wanted to correct something. The Ospreys used were Marine Corps MV-22s, not CV-22s, which are exclusively used by the Air Force.
Adults with any real world military experience know full well that not every mission is a success. Some simply fail to meet objectives, some are downright clusters. This is a risk taken, it's understood that operating in someone else's backyard is prone to Murphy's law.
We need to acknowledge these failures along with the successes, learn from them, and craft better plans as a result of those lessons.
Oof, I was at Camp Lemonier when this raid went pear shaped. My primary memory was of an operator getting chow at the mess hall. Someone in the line loudly and passive -aggresively said 'oh I see the special guys get to wear what ever they want..." Mind you, this guy had barely changed since getting back. So he had shorts and shower shoes on. You could have heard a pin drop. Definitely not someone's smartest move. Luckily the operator didn't bother responding.
Well done on making yet another excellent video, on this absolute clownshow from the US
As far as I understand, the CV-22 (special forces variant of the V-22 osprey operated and 'owned' by the Air Force) is better outfitted for special forces applications, thus the Navy Seals are using it for this instead of the Naval CMV-22 variant which is primarily used for medium range logistics.
They were using Marine Corps MV-22 Ospreys, not CMV-22s. CMV-22s were not adopted by the Navy until 2021. Also, CV-22s are Air Force Special Operations, not special forces.
That is an excessive amount of civilian and children casualties.
