    Had a wonderful 1600E, very original, had mostly the original paint all the panels, carpets, engine. Sadly had to sell due to finances, it would be difficult to find one like that again, great car, you could not find any rust, people were always amazed at the condition.

    I bought a Mk 2 Cortina 1600 super estate when it was ten years old, in 1980. It was as rotten as a pear. Had countless welded patches, including the front suspension top plates, which was fairly standard.

      @@a.c.4732 I can't forget that colour when it first came out. It was beautiful, especially on the 1600E and was so different from all the other colours. During the early 70's I wanted my father to buy a Mk1 Capri 1600GT in that colour but it was a base model without the side dummy vents, we chatted about it and decided to look for a better spec model.

      @levelcrossing150 my mate used a polish that none of us had ever heard of : "Johnson's" in a round black tin . Orangey cream stuff . His E had pretty dull paint , but a few hours with this stuff had it looking brand new . Needless to say , we all bought a tin for our cars ! Almost 50 years on , I can't remember seeing a car undergo such a transformation with just a tin of polish. They stopped making it long ago sadly . My go-to these days is Auto Glym . Apart from Turtle 🐢 Wax , all the rest are here today gone tomorrow gimmicky things with silly price tags . Like so many things nowadays..... Yeah, Aubergine . Takes some beating ....

      @@a.c.4732My goodness I remember Johnsons wax well. The waxes used to be hard work but the results were good and lasted well. Yeah when someone finds something good, the word soon gets around. I use Auto-Glym too, the resin one. I polished my Mk2 Escort 3 years ago, and it still does not need polishing yet..... it is garaged but still pretty amazing stuff.

      It doesn't sound rough to me, you have to remember when you record a car running it sounds nothing like hearing it in the flesh. The microphone will be very sensitive & picking up more of the mechanical noise as opposed to the sweet sound of the Engine.

    • @SF-xj5nr
      @SF-xj5nr 2 месяца назад +1

      That’s a Light Tan interior, they also did a Blue and a Green one that I think was called Aqua Green, but no doubt they are quite rare these days, back in the late 70s there were lots of them about. Mine was Amber Gold with a Light Tan interior and a Tabacco leaf vinyl roof (non standard).
      Thankfully mine still appears to be on the road somewhere out there, the Reg ends in 220H ( I’ve loads of history on it, if the owners out there )

      @jamescampbell7780 Yes, I thought they WERE all black inside?
      I don't know if the brown dash top is standard, but having brown and not like most cars BLACK, goes so well with the beautiful wood dash board!

    WISH YOU COULD BYE A BRAND NEW ONE. BUT WITH A FEW MODERN UPGRADES. IE POWERFUL ENGINE. SIX SPEED BOX ELECTRIC WINDOWS AIR CON POWERFULL BRAKES SOUND PROFED. IT WOULD BE A FANTASTIC CAR.

    • @levelcrossing150
      @levelcrossing150 6 месяцев назад +1

      I would happily buy one exactly as it was then, far less to go wrong with it and better than anything new today, IMO.

      @russcooke5671 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@levelcrossing150 true. But a few later mods would make an improvement on the driving especially a bit more power and electric steel roof would do me. I had one years ago. It was a crayford 3 litre a genuine from new conversion it had a 3000E badge on the boot. It was very quick much faster then a lotus cortina and Dunlop alloys. It was basically the same as the savage but a lot lot rarer. They only made four of them three were based on the GT model but mine was based on the 1600E version. It’s probably worth a fortune now though.

      @@russcooke5671 Yes, I understand, I just like them ex factory as I remember them. The 4 speed box was a beauty, I could fix it at home and it was a nicer gear change than my Mk7 Fiesta 5 speed I have today, it only just about makes it into reverse. I have a type 9 5 speed in my Escort and it's not as nice as the 1600E box. I always loved the V6 Cortinas, but even back in my day they were thirsty on fuel, so I never bought one. I have wished I had bought some cars to keep for the future, I could have bought a Lotus Cortina for £425 back in the 70's. I bet you saw something better and a bit more modern and you went for it, like most of us did.

    • @russcooke5671
      @russcooke5671 6 месяцев назад

      @@levelcrossing150 yes the v6 was thirsty and it very quick on acceleration But after 100 mph the engine was revving hard it needed a five speed box.

    • @levelcrossing150
      @levelcrossing150 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@russcooke5671Yes I agree, but they were basically built for fast A roads in their day. It was not until the 80's when Ford introduced their 5 speed, but by this time it was far too late for so many of their great models. Take the Escort RS2000's, a 5 peed totally transformed the car. Increased the top end speed, cut fuel consumption and greatly reduced engine wear.
