F1 Championship Edition (for the PS3 in 2006) still stands out as my favourite. It was so far ahead of its time graphics wise. Even now, I find the graphics impressive and the gameplay sensational. F1 97 was also brilliant. It built on the success on Formula 1 two years prior and refined it.
My fav is F1 championship Edition. It was the first one I ever played and I loved it. I loved the pit stops how you had to sort of button spam. So much memories
F1 Challenge 99 - 02. Best of all, Made by the devs of Rfactor. there is even a mod on the internet with EVERY F1 season from the 50's to 2017. A bit dated but what a game. Next to GP4 my Go-to game. So many league races, so many online communities. F1 Challenge 99-02 was life!
i've found a mod with ALL the seasons included... driving as Fangio, Clark, Stewart, Prost, Mansell, Schumacher or Vettel, changing history making Moss, Reutemann or Massa champions is pretty awesome
Man, what I'd give to see an F1 game with the accessibility and the "live the life of an F1 driver" feeling of the Codemasters F1 franchise, the immersion and attention to detail of Grand Prix 4, the physics of rFactor, and with multiple seasons.
i remember playing this game on my first ever computer(compaq 16mb ram 8mb vram win95) when i was only 6 yo. i had a 100+ pages manual with instructions, tips, setups, trackmaps and more and played it for ages even when i had a better system and consoles. for sure the best f1 game ever (and best game in history imo). What this dude said. GP2 was one of the few games to actually be ahead of it's time. For the time the game was insane. Look up the old reviews of this game, nothing but cheers & joys.
It has worse ratings than F1 2016 and I personally don't like it due to it not having penalties, safety car and the TEST DRIVER TIMES. WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING?
Also you cant forget about bad wheel support, no own controller mappings only presets, no online anymore, no R&D, the teams have same perfomance every year and so on.
THANK YOU SO MUCH Grand Prix 4 was my favourite F1 game ever, even today, with the best AI i've ever seen in a racing game ! I didn't know the game's name and I was looking for it desperatly ! Edit : I was playing on PS2 and discovered the game I was looking for isn't Grand Prix 4 but Grand Prix Challenge, but both look quite similar
Aron Bell have to agree wholeheartedly with this. Everything about that game was and still is awesome. Love driving on a drying track with dry tyres trying to stay on that narrow dry line... Pure awesomeness
Let's not forget the original Formula One Grand Prix (aka World Circuit) by Geoff Crammond released in 1991 for Amiga/Atari ST and in 1992 for PC DOS. It truly set the standard for all F1 games that came after it.
Yes, I would write the same. We played it with Hot Seat Modus on one computer and also with a null modem cable and hot seat on two computers. That was great this time. And it has a very awesome manual which didn't explained only the game, most of it was a part about F1 rules, how to drive on a dry or wet track and how to setup the car.
I've been playing through Grand Prix 2 lately and I also think that is worth a mention for this list. While GP2 doesn't have the graphics or weather of GP4, it has the car models, mechanical failures and realistic AI (that also makes mistakes) that are in GP4. Also, no love for Grand Prix Legends? The difficulty of wrangling a 1967 F1 car gave me a whole different level of respect for the legends of F1 before aerodynamics took such a big role in the sport.
I did some reverse engineering on GP4 in the past. The games in the serie share the same code for a big part. So this is why they also share similar features. The biggest downside of GP4 was the lack of proper network\internet play.
GRAND PRIX 2 by Microprose!!! A game that was released in 1996 that featured the best simulation and most detailed car set-up you can think of. The sound was just perfect and the 3D graphics, pit-stops etc. were so innovative! This game was so ahead of its time, I still play it today with a DOS emulator (22 years after its release...) :DDD
@@Trainmaster909 Same, now i always play some of the Codemasters F1 games, and Historical F1 games in EA sports... And everything else.. I want to still play..
You are so right, Pal. GP4 was and still is the best F1 Game ever made. Geoff Crammond is a Genius. I play this Game now for 16 Years and I still have this "WOW Moments". The AI is still the best and not even the crappy Codemasters F1 Series (which is in my opinion an Arcade Game) can come close to it. True F1 Simulator Drivers are still dreaming that Geoff Crammond will decide to come back and show those average programers how a F1 Game should be made. Thank God a lot of dedicated GP4 Fans are still creating new F1 Mods and Tracks for this incredible Game.

As well when you collide or overtake it should show a camera reaction view on your opponent on the side of the screen with voice reaction from him and his team. Them confronting you after as well.
N64 F1 WGP was the first actual F1 racing simulator that I ever played, so it occupies a special place in my fond memories. The opening and the soundtrack were amazing and graphics quite good for that time, although I have to admit that the later F1 WGP improved many of the aspects that failed about the 1997 game. For instance that the starting grid, retirements, pit stop time, and race results in a given racing track were always the same in the first release. The 1998 version kept the graphics but it was better in way many more things: the starting grid on a given track, pit stop times and race results varied. In addition, for the replays there were one or two more extra cameras, being the one right over the car my favorite. I also have fond memories on the PS1 1995 championship.
Well on the pandemic I revived my ps2 and apparently there’s a F1 2000 game in a surplus store near my place, I bought it, played it and it’s great, on the championship mode, sometimes the drivers would crash after the first turn in the Hockenheimring and retire, I always had to replay the scenes to see if that really happened, it always gets me
I think f1 2002 is one of the best. The reason being, in f1 2002, you could rarely win with a team such as Jordan or Minardi as straight line speeds were lower to that of a Ferrari or Renault as the realism was such that individuals vehicle specs were taken into account. It was really a spec based game. CRASHES, AI mistakes and engine failures were realistic to the core. In modern F1 games, you can win with a low end spec car. That is why I love f1 2002
In the N-64 game rivals also were difficult to pass but they made mistakes from time to time. But to see all this glorious gameplay you had to select the full race length. It was incredible for the time.
F1 Challenge 1999-2002
The 2nd comment tell me this. Will find that game..

It’s got to be Grand Prix 2. The detail was incredible and way ahead of it’s time. An amazing game for 1996

Grand Prix Legends was such a cool and advanced game tbh
In the N-64 game rivals also were difficult to pass but they made mistakes from time to time. But to see all this glorious gameplay you had to select the full race length. It was incredible for the time.
