Doing a complete color change for a vehicle is no easy task. You need to do the door jams, pull the motor out if you want to do the engine bay, and preparation is everything. However what if your color change on your terminator cobra was from Sonic Blue to one of the rarest Ford colors ever displayed? Today at SSR collision my buddy Chris takes on the challenge of painting Liquid Blue; a concept car color only shown during reveals and displays. Most of the liquid blue vehicles have been crushed due to them only being show cars and non production. So what does it take to spray this magnificent color? Let's find out! @@rickmitchell7640 I think it's mystichrome, but it's a Ford color that came from the factory. it's almost similar to midnight purple 3 if you know that color

@@rickmitchell7640 its was a special colour on cobras and it had a very cool colour changing to it and I believe if your car needed a respray like maybe your bumper got a scratch or something like that a ford employee had to deliver the paint and then seal what wasn't used and bring it back to ford

Oh so that was the paint on the Ford GT show car at the NY Auto Show.
I liked how the guy in the blue shirt was realistic in saying "that we know of". Shows he is not conceited and full of himself and humble. Also, when interviewing someone look at them and not the camera.

I Love that I chose to go to Autobody school and learned how to do this and fix dents and stuff. One of the best decision I think I've made with my life
It is a fun thing to learn i had a collision and repair class at my high school, so i chose and i ended up loving it

Love the way you taped and papered the trunk. That is kind of the idea I had for taping the hatch on my car that is in the process of paint prep. I wasn't 100% sure how I wanted to do it, but now seeing it visually helps.
Awesome colour for sure, nice car too...but the best about all this just might be the way the paint get’s laid down. That guy just FLOWS with his paintgun, it’s boss-level!

I'm just glad to see a painter using quality paper not plastic like 99% of RUclips videos. I will say I was hoping he'd spray the jams with the exterior for a better finish, sealer is heavier than base no avoiding lines on the trasition.
No sealer made it into the door jambs. Using soft edge tape it eliminates it (source: I painted it) lol
@@Droptopsvt usually does is why I said something lol. Rolled/Soft edge prep is results only as good as who's applying it.
@@Droptopsvt normally I back tape the door and spray the jam with the exterior, same amount of work no sanding or buffing on transition. Looks good man, you know us painters. We notice everything, even in video.

At first I was confused why you were repainting an awesome sonic blue Cobra but liquid metal is going to be SO much better! I would completely understand even if you repainted a super expensive Ford GT this color!

There is still one fiesta ST that is liquid blue out there somewhere. It went up for sell about 2 years ago from Ford.
It was up for sale on Bring A Trailer three years ago by private seller, but didn't meet the reserve. Might have changed hands after the auction however.
One day I’ll have a mistachrome 03 cobra like my grandpa used to have. He bought it for sticker and then built it to 750 wheel before he sold ): just before I was 16

Jason sickelbaugh no it wasn’t. 2003 and 2004 both had Mystichrome but had different styles. One of them has more green or more purple in it. The other doesn’t

Currently in the process of painting my 99 GT a Subaru color 61K Dark Gray w/ Ice Silver Metallic looks very blue in the sunlight its so gorgeous, we had an Outback come in the shop and i just was like "yeah imma paint it that color" its gonna pair so nicely with the bronze wheels!

Kind of weird that the painter couldn’t see past the wheels. I know what he was trying to say but I could the beauty in the paint even with the wheels being uncovered. This is gonna be dope 🔥
Great vid, & love the colour! Haven’t ever been able to find my fav colour, a cobalt blue w/ some dark purple undertones.....but it’s a sick colour. Ended up creating the colour during organic chem lab in university & was using chemicals to create a endothermic reaction on some lab experiments & we ended up having the BEST cobalt blue colour I’ve ever seen.
Not sure if there is, it would like to know more about the tools he uses for spraying a car; like spray gun, cleaners, paints, processes etc...

That looks really sweet. It sure does sparkle. If I could ask a couple of questions? First, for the soft edge, did you use a special tape, or just folded over masking tape? Second, did you do anything special to make sure the sealer was covered with base+clear in the jambs, trunk, etc? I worry about having some sealer poke out somewhere. This is basically how I am going to paint my car, and it gives me nightmares :). Thanks in advance.
You should do a video on some of the street racing that's going on down there (not condoning it or participating, just talking about it). My sister lives just north of Atlanta and she says it's gotten ridiculous. Excellent video as always.
I feel like that color was made for indoors lights not for showing the car off in Direct sunlight. I bet he’s going to get the most compliments for the paint job at night time under parking lot lights!

A couple questions: What color is that vert? How did you get this color if it wasn't put on production cars? And for the painter what paint line was that base coat? I assume water based. I paint at a collision repair shop and I will say it's rare now for painters to do real quality work like this man. He did everything how I would. I also use sata guns and cups too, great brand.

2:24 good demonstration of turning the audio levels down 😂 come on David that's pretty low, every pair of headphones that aren't open eared do this effect. If you wanted to make it less obvious, slowly fade the audio levels back to what they were before. This is pretty low, AAC codecs are basically standard at this point and this must be an older model being supplied with Bluetooth 4.1 and not 4.2 or bluetooth 5.0

You could match the new crazy blue colour with an equally crazy wheel finish? Say actual highly polished bronze or copper on the spokes with a machined finish on the resese and barrels? Tricky I know but it might take it to a whole other level. High polished bronze (new penny colour) would look insane! Specially if you chose a thin spiny spoked wheel which wouldn't overpower the crisp new blue.

I love how the sound of those headphones is clearly still there after you tried to mute them, even with you lowering the sound of the microphone.
I noticed this too, his voice was loud, then when he tried demonstrating the "noise cancelling" quality you can hear his voice is a lot lower than it was 2 seconds ago.
The Best FORD Paint story I have came back in the 80s when Ford closed the plant in the Bay Area
A guy came to work with me after the plant closed and he had worked driving a fork lift for many years there
He had a two tone F150 in what all I could explain for the color was a mix of Ice Cream and Root Beer
I called his truck and Ice Cream Float Truck, the colors were just so good they where like nothing I had ever seen
So, how did he get this truck in this color that FORD never sold to the public, I had to ask
The story goes this way
A Company brought the two colors to FORD and ordered a large fleet painted with the paints
When he saw the first one he went to the guy at the plant that controlled this fleet and talked to him
He then ordered a New Truck as he wanted it and got the guy in charge of Paint to have this paint on his truck
There are many stories he told us over the years of things that happened at the plant and his paint story
was in no way the best

in Europe we can have Fords in 'chrome blue' which is actually very close to this color, but a bit more grey.
Even the performance blue for the MK8 Fiesta ST is a nice blue that comes close, but is more blue.
Doesn't have that much flake though.

Extreme Rainbow would be at the top of my list of rarity. There's a 1 of 1 Terminator that was sold in that color which was a $10,000 option. Hopefully there is a savvy Ford GT owner out there that will have their Heritage edition painted in that color like Mystichrome guy did last year.
Aren’t the door handles going to be missing some color since they weren’t taken off?
My main hate is when I hear that the place you are going to get a repaint for your vehicle is where you know they don't have a wait time(no one else is there needing work done) & they start you vehicle but then someone (or more) comes in & they stop repainting your vehicle to start & finish theirs 1st even though they are half finished with yours & you had to make an appointment they they where a walk in! Actually, this make me upset for anywhere I go! If someone makes an appointment & someone else is a walk in, the one that made the appointment should go 1st in the list to do, or am I missing something?! I mean I understand if your appointment is for like 6pm & its 5pm when work is only an hour long for example, I can see that being ok but not where you made an appointment at 6pm & its 5:45pm(with keeping to if the 1 hour to do mark) & you have to wait until they're done with the walk in 1st which they get to you at 6:45pm(minding that if the work still took one hour) you where there before your appointment to make sure you're there for your timeslot but you get pushed back due too a line cutter & have to wait even longer due too this! Yes, I do understand some places are a 1st come 1st served but then why have appointments at those places anyways?! I'm not one who cares for any color of blue but that's one sure nice color though, so great job!

I'm a mechanic and I can not paint to save my life. I have mad respect for people who can pant cars and do a killer job. I have red 69 fastback mustang that I originally wanted to paint highland green (the bullitt color), but instead I may want to paint it liquid blue instead. Like how I'm picturing it in my mind it looks sick.

I really through this was going to be the color shift paint that Ford used to make anyone doing repairs order through Ford then return any leftover.

I remember seeing that the GT in liquid blue wasn't destroyed. However it was repainted white, which is a huge shame because the original colour is gorgeous

So the showcars like the ford GT were all in a special non production color? I guess that explains why no one seems to be able to get it right even in videogames, and the color seems to be a cross between the Blue Metalic Color they used on things like cobras back in the 60's and grabber blue, like someone added a bunch more white and silver to the mix.

Ford offers liquid blue as a production color on 2017+ Ford GT models. It could be a slightly different shade than the show model but that is what the option code was labeled nonetheless and it looks the same. The GT is the only model it comes factory on
That's so close to the color I am wanting to paint my truck. The closest thing I've seen is a spray paint.
almost looks like the saleen extreme victory blue. 1 of 1 and oddly enough probably 2 pictures of it that I can't seem to find anymore.
1980 mk2 escort Neptune Blue (deleted by ford) is the rarest ford colour i know of, it's a dark metallic blue with pearl fleck and was on standard road cars for a short period.

There are plenty of colors out there that shift in different light. I really like that effect.
I know the paint is metallic, but you added sparkles to the clearcoat or is that already in the VC5700? If not what's the item number for the glitters.
