to remember those who fell for the country...for freedom...for the flag...those who gave their lives for their ideas...and those who stood where everything went dark. ..To remember. Honor and glory to the heroes Long live Greece
Very emotional! Thank you for sharing this little bit of history as tragic as the event was. It's true what Katina said about us being extremely privileged as women to be born and to live in countries without the suffering of war. Sadly, women and children are still suffering around the world today - this monument is a tribute to them all!
Thank you! I was born and raised close to this area, my parents and my grandparents too. I can see this mountain from my bedroom's window /balcony when I live there during ny vacations and weekends. In fact my grandpa from my mother comes from this place / village.
@@becoming_greekYeah Epirus is very beautifu, the Riviera and the mountain regions. Definitely visit again, you won't regret it. If you want advice where to go, ask any time.
Respect to all those brave women & children.. similar kind of events happened in India, we call it Jauhar, it was practice of mass self-immolation by women and girls to avoid capture, enslavement and r3pe by islamic invaders when facing certain defeat during a war.
@@becoming_greek You're absolutely right, I've only seen the monument in videos and even though I appreciate it's made of stone 👍 I still find it extravagant (size-wise). Needless to say we've had many - very many - similar soviet-era type monuments (again, size-wise) across the country and personally I don't find aesthetically pleasing. The key word here - to answer @user-xh9rz7rf8l - is "to symbolize" or illustrate; what those women did was indeed far and beyond human nature but I would have loved the artist to be, well, lower key 😐
@@Abernis it's fair to have that opinion, it is large. I was only curious. To be honest, in the states there aren't so many huge monuments that are just in the middle of nowhere (maybe one or 2).. I found its size quite surprising and impressive.
There’s certainly a lot of history of the culture being so close and intertwining. A lot of Greek dances as well as costuming is very similar. Are you aware of the incident of the dance of Zolango? That was the inspiration

Thank you!

Very cool! That’s a big reason why we do this. Connecting people with the homeland in some way
Hey, nice video guys. Did you visit Preveza, it's my hometown.
Nice! We went through but didn’t get to spend any time. It’s a beautiful area

Thank you for sharing. History can be sad and difficult to comprehend
I find the monument very large - too large - but thank you for reminding us 👍
Have you been or are you saying by the looks of the video?
It is big because it symbolizes the gigantic will for freedom. Self-sacrifice is gigantic in itself.

It's a monument that was made so big that you can see it from everywhere in the area around to remind
This is Suliotes of Albania and the dance that you are dancing is Albanian steps. Now is considered greece.
There’s certainly a lot of history of the culture being so close and intertwining. A lot of Greek dances as well as costuming is very similar. Are you aware of the incident of the dance of Zolango? That was the inspiration
@@becoming_greekof course,we know that story ,i Say the ispiration was from greek culture but the Blood was albanian women and sacrifice
Yes, Batman is Albanian too.
My DNA test says Greece/Albania. It's time to put the past behind us and realize that we are the same people.
@@MrWarface1 So, we 'put the past behind us' because you're half-Albanian? 🤨
