Such a great video! So much work put into it! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! We definitely put a lot more work into anything on the Episodes playlist
Thank you so much for your inspiring content! It makes me so happy to see people taking a leap of faith and following their dreams! After dealing with some health issues the last two years / I’m finally planning a trip to Crete this summer with my beautiful daughter! If yall are free - we would love to hang out and maybe get some ideas from you! If you feel led or willing ✨💖🦋. Lots of love and keep creating. - Rima
Thank you for the kind words. We're so happy to hear you are making plans to explore Crete! Feel free to shoot us a message on instagram closer to your trip
Great video guys im thinking off have a holiday in Crete this summer cycling
Thank you! You should! The hills on narrow roads are a little intimidating to me on a bike but it is a beautiful place for it if you’re confident
Its all good till the navy carriers invade. Then 5000 drunk sailors roaming the streets
Fair point. While there was an uptick from time to time last year, this is fairly uncommon
I used to be one of those lol. Beautiful place. Great food all around the area we called the horse shoe. Just sailors get rowdy and threw things in the water
Please stop that music.
Unfortunately this was a mistake and RUclips does not allow us to make changes to existing videos, the only option is to remove the video entirely
Yia sas paidia! Oroaia ta video alla n mysiki ainai enoxlitiki kai dinati.
The cat distribution system has chosen you. Congratulations! Nice that you were able to easily help her get spayed. How is the move to Greece for someone who is retired?
Love you guys! I really enjoy your videos and exploring Crete through your experiences. I'm headed to Crete end of March through April and will be staying in Chania for the first 2 weeks. Doing my best to learn as much Greek as I can between now and then. Will keep following you and these amazing videos. Thanks so much
You two are sooooo cute! I see so many travel shows but the Visuals AND THE TRUE info is cute! 😊
Thank you so much for the kind words 😀
Dont push the climate change scam ffs
I’m sorry, but if you think it’s a scam you’re in the minority. What part of the world are you from? In our experience, it’s only a subculture of Americans who disbelieve this and don’t listen to the experts. If you’re not American or maybe British, I’d definitely be curious as to why you have this view
It looks like a dream ❤
It is a dream with its new set of struggles. We do talk about those from time to time but we try to look at the positives for our own sake. Certainly the aspects of it that are the people, the food, the weather and geography are paradise.
@ yeh I can imagine
Nice video very informative and it's nice to see you're genuinely interested in the culture and traditions of this incredible ancient country we now call home.
Thank you! I think Katina’s Greek roots originally connected us to the culture but I think the more that you come to appreciate it, the more you truly enjoy being here
I dream of visiting Greece in the winter. Looking forward to these videos. Ας πάμε!
I hope one day that you make that dream a reality!

Make them a little longer ❤
Honestly the “Episodes” take weeks of work already so sadly we don’t see the return in the number of views based on RUclips’s algorithm. The Episodes are what we are most passionate about but at this point it doesn’t make sense for us to put even more time into extending them, unless we move to a different platform or get funding to do so (which we would love)
@ yes, I get that! They’re appreciated no matter how short! Hope the right person is gonna see your potential and is up for a fruitful collaboration for all of you! Cheers
Lovely! Great shots, great information! Looking forward to the next vlog!
@@midiacoste7506 thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed
I wonder if there’s any skiing in Crete. I saw a photo of someone skiing there, but it was probably like hiking/ skiing.
Kinda fake all this happiness
@@gotasification not fake for us when we are visiting Corfu.. I’m not saying there are no internal issues in Corfu but everything we captured was real and people really only talked about good things
Heading to Chania for Easter this year for many of the reasons you talk about. I love moderate temperatures and no crowds! More time to get a feel for local life…. Slow travel for me… so 3 weeks planned with Chania as a base then see what entices me. Will keep following for your recommendations 😊
That’s amazing! You’ll be glad you chose to spend so much time in Crete.
Thank you for your videos. I love how people share their experiences living in another country but no one ever discusses how they got there (the journey toward citizenship). Can you talk about that? Are you citizens, or did you get there via a digital visa or a work visa, a Golden Visa, or something else? How long did the process take? What exactly did you have to do aside from go through your local U.S. Consulate to get started? Did you hire a lawyer and so on? Thank you so much and congratulations on changing up your lives!
Thank you for following along! We have talked about this subject here and there and a bit more about this in our Digital Nomad Lifestyle video a few months back. Long story short, we have Digital Nomad residency (we had visas first) and Katina is working on citizenship. The process feels never ending to be honest because you have to get things together and appointments and such and once you’re through you have to do it again in a few months. Will be better with citizenship
@@becoming_greek Thank you for your reply. I hear that getting things done in Greece (in terms of government) takes time, but you are a lot farther along than I. I wish you the best of luck and thank you for sharing your experience.
How do you make money and support yourself when you’re out there?
I own a video production company in America so I produce videos remotely and I spend about 2-3 months a year filming abroad during my busier season. Terms of the Digital Nomad visa don’t allow us to work for Greek companies. Of course when Katina gets citizenship that would change our situation but it’s all very tricky to navigate.
Nice video! However, high 50's to low 60's Fahrenheit is a bit of a stretch. Right now at 20.55, 5 January, it's 51 F in Chania, and will get down to 48 later tonight. And this is a warm January.
@@Luggruff the high was 64 in Chania today….
Many streamers started "a new life" in Greece. 90% of them are gone in the first year. Enjoy the staring, aggressive rudeness, predatory behaviors and absolutely worthless and corrupt legal system. Enjoy your time with your blue hair in Crete as well, lol
I'm curious as to what your digital job is. We are looking at early retiring in Evia and are feeling the issues with getting citizenship!
Totally get you, it’s worth it but the red tape does make things slow and difficult to make long term decisions. Slowly slowly. I own a video production company in Atlanta, GA. I produce and coordinate things remotely but I do go back for my 2 busiest stints of the year, basically end of January until Mid March and late October/early November. I capture a lot of music festivals at sea so lucky for me my work is very saturated at that time of year and it gives me more flexibility from April to October.
Did you find a Lawyer to help with obtaining Greek Citizenship? I am also having issues with the Consulate office in Atlanta GA.
The situation is certainly different doing it in America vs doing it in Greece. It usually takes 3-5 years through the states but while the process in Greece should be faster it’s only doable if you are already a resident and someone at the office is telling us, only if you are a tax resident, which is a catch 22 since it basically goes against our digital nomad residency terms… hence why we are working on the legal side of things. I’m fairly certain the Consolate in Atlanta recently changed, Teo was great and I’m fairly certain all consulates are very back logged. We are from Atlanta originally so we’ve had a bit of experience with that office 😀
We haven't visited any of these fantastic islands yet. We had an Astro cartography session yesterday, and these Agaean islands are supposed to be very auspicious for me. We currently live in the US but will visit this spring. Which islands do you recommend for English-speaking expat populations?
Very exciting that you will be visiting in the fall. To be honest, tourism is the biggest industry in Greece so you’ll have very few issues speaking English when going to hotels or restaurants on any island. If you go to remote villages and speak to elderly people then maybe they don’t speak English. There are a lot of variables in choosing an island, do you want to travel for cuisine, beaches, geography, hiking, architecture, history, culture, etc as to what would lead us to suggest different islands. We try to highlight differences in each island in our Episodes playlist so that can be a good place to start if you haven’t already
Χρόνια Πολλά from Pennsylvania! I’ve been wanting to spend Christmas in Greece with my family there. This video helps. 😂

Respect to all those brave women & children.. similar kind of events happened in India, we call it Jauhar, it was practice of mass self-immolation by women and girls to avoid capture, enslavement and r3pe by islamic invaders when facing certain defeat during a war.
Thank you for sharing. History can be sad and difficult to comprehend
What are the names of the towns you mentioned? Are they all in Crete? Where do you recommend staying for a week or 2 in Crete during xmas (for next year). Thank you!
@@selena2250 we mentioned the 4 main cities of Crete. Chania and Heraklion would be the places with the most Christmas activities but if you do have time it is worth going to Rethymno while you’re there.. less for the Christmas stuff but just because it’s a beautiful place
@becoming_greek thank you 🙏 and Merry Christmas 🙌✝️🙌
Merry Christmas to you too!
Seasons greetings! First time I saw Crete decorated for Christmas! Although my origin is from Crete and I have family there I usually visit at Easter or in summer. Thank you guys. Have nice holidays in Iraklio!!😀😀
@@elenimalekaki914 thank you! Happy holidays. Καλές γιορτές
I love your videos! We're spending three weeks in Crete in June and then want to go to another island. Would you vote for Milos or Sifnos in early July? Afraid over over tourism in Milos at this time of year?
Thank you for watching and following! Milos will be very tourist in early July but not so much as Santorini, Mykonos or Paros and it’s still manageable. If you care more about seeing the iconic beaches such as Sarakiniko and the boat tours, Milos is better. Sifnos is a great location for the food (although nothing matches Crete IMO) and a much more quiet island (we really loved Castro) but it doesn’t have the beaches of Milos. Long story short Milos will have more to do but Sifnos will be more peaceful.
What is the temp in C i winter?
In December the high is between 15-20, it can be windy though
Hi guys!. Hugs from Austria! I am going to live in Crete😊
Good luck! What part?
Are you Greek? Is one or two of your parents Greek? Go get your greek id (Katina). Why suffer
It’s more difficult and complicated than most people think but slowly she is working on citizenship. Until then we do have basically green cards
What flight and ferry did you use? I'll be coming from Athens
We flew to Skiathos and took a ferry from Skiathos to Skopelos. The other option is to go to Volos and take a ferry.
Nice, but. Lyon France is the best Christmas Festival in the world. It’s the Festival of Light that starts about 10 days before Christmas. Lyon simple has the best food in the world. The Festival is one of the best kept secrets in France. Unfortunately the locals are a bit cool to tourist.
So we weren’t saying it’s the best Christmas celebration, only what the island is like at Christmas is like. Sadly I’ve been highly disappointed by the quality of food in France every time we’ve been compared to the Mediterranean countries and with a much higher price tag
Greek nativism is not the same as being Greek from another continent! If you have income from another place, welcome to Shangri-La; otherwise, keep your passports handly; a message from a Greek American who lived in America for 55 years - the fact that moving to Greece is a life-altering experience stay balanced expect to be disappointed so in due time you are prepared. Also, remember Greece wants you to declare ALL YOUR FOREIGN ASSETS in your taxes. Yankees beware (but you will get to this next time you file taxes as a resident)
I understand the disappointment in some regards. We’ve heard stories and honestly just the unknowing of the future and inability to do certain things makes it difficult to navigate life in some ways. That said looking into options as technically Katina filing for citizenship has to follow one set of rules and me as a Digital Nomad only has to follow others (for tax purposes), it makes it tricky but does give us some flexibility… for now at least.
I would love to see where you live, like your neighborhood. Can you give me more information about renting long term.
Hi Suzi, thank you for your interest and for following along. We try to show you many areas in our videos but for security concerns we don’t focus on exactly where we live or our neighborhood. Greece is super safe but the internet sadly isn’t. As far as renting long term, Chania isn’t the easiest area to find a place but if you look hard enough you will find something you like. As we covered in our 6 months living in Greece video and Digital Nomad Lifestyle videos we go a little bit in depth on this but basically we booked an off season 6 month rental while we got situated and found a more long term stay
Greetings beloveds. I'm Mary from Australia. Half Greek/Lithuanian. I speak Greek and went twice. Love it. Love your videos too. My husband and I have a channel on Bit Chute called JESUS IS LORD. There are many videos free unmonetized to bless you both. God bless you.
Thank you for the kind words. We hope to see you in Crete soon.
Do you have contact information for who was running the free spay clinic? Would love to donate to support them!
Joint Animal Welfare Society- JAWS for PAWS. I’m sure they’d appreciate it. I donated when I picked up the kitty and she seemed so surprised that was giving them money after a free procedure. Not sure if many are donating and every bit helps
But Crete seems to be so dry!!
Extremely dry summers with some rain in the winter. It’s interesting to see the island in the spring be much more green
Great video and I love how quickly you make friends and become like family everywhere you go! Something this introvert can only dream of. Are you speaking with people mostly in Greek or English or is it a bit of a mix. I really love your videos!
Thank you! We speak in a bit of a mix, definitely. We enjoy practicing Greek but most people speak English so sometimes they switch to English or sometimes it’s just difficult to express deeper or more important things for us in Greek so then we switch. “Siga siga” as the locals say, or slowly slowly. Thank you for following along 😀
How’s the weather there? Im planing to go next week
It’s cool but not terribly cold like most of Europe. Check the wind and clouds can by high some days.. it’s certainly not as sunny as summer but not too wet either although it does rain a few days in December and a little more in January.
"A litle bit more western" ? What do you mean? How was it before ? Like Saudi Arabia? Dubai? Man... Greece made the west! This is History 101... come on !
The modern Christmas traditions of the west….
@@becoming_greek (=>) Ok I see where the problem is. Your use of the term west. (=>) Look, Protestant Europe is way different than Catholic Europe too. => Have you seen how they celebrate Easter in Spain. Compare it to Easter holidays in Germany. Well, who's more west between the two ? You understand my point now? (=>) Europe is big. With a lot of differences among its' different parts. But the core culture remains the same. Everybody is western in Western Europe (!). Even in Eastern Europe (ex-Soviet) to the most part. (=>) When I was an exchange student in a university in the U.S., I hosted a bunch of friends from the U.S. to my house in Greece. Guess what? They were shocked by the very little clothing the Greek women wore during summer (not to mention my sister going topless at the beach with them). (=>) Can you tell me in this case, who is the more modern - western?
Today, the term “the west” is typically used to describe The "Western World" referring to a group of countries primarily in Western Europe and North America. Seeing as Greece is geographically in Eastern Europe it does not fit that description.
@@becoming_greek No this is wrong. There is no one single typical use of the term west. => The Geographical scope you invoke it really doesn’t work. It’s just scholar and is' use is rather sloppy. Israel is in the Middle East but still considered west culturally and politically. The same with Georgia and Armenia. => From a political scope “West” are countries under NATO umbrella and “East” are countries under Ex-Soviet now Russian umbrella. Now you don’t speak on behalf the “State Department” so we exclude this use. => From a religious scope, yes, ever since 10th-11th centuries, churches under the Pope (Catholics, “Protestants”) are considered “West” and Orthodox churches (Greek or later on, Russian) are considered “East”. This view though was just geopolitics of that time, Greeks and Italians wanted to control Europe through religion and I honestly don’t think you speak on behalf of any church here. => From a cultural scope… well what to say? As I said before, the Greeks made the west in terms of values, ethics, lifestyle, etc. Yes Christianity and the Enlightenment added and completed what we consider as “West” and of course after thousands of years lifestyle changed a bit, nations developed their own idiosyncrasies and mentalities but the core culture is still the same, throughout Europe or better, the “West”. To sum it up. I am not spending so much time of my life to write this to you for any politically correct madness or simply for trolling. Since you live in Greece I wouldn’t like you to fall in the trap I’ve seen hundreds of time in my schooling years in the America where the basic belief was everything outside America is Mexico with the exceptions of Britain and France. Considering the negative connotations “East” has in lifestyle, culture, politics, someone could get offended by it.
I appreciate your passion and your perspective, but I think there may be a misunderstanding here. The term I used is a widely accepted, modern term commonly used in the U.S. and Western Europe, and it wasn’t intended to diminish Greece’s incredible contributions to democracy and Western thought over 2,000 years ago. Of course, the world has evolved since then, and today, terms like “the West” generally refer to America and Western Europe. While I respect the points you’re making, they don’t really connect to the context of our video or the statement I made. I always welcome healthy discussions about Greek culture and relevant topics, but I’d kindly ask that we keep the conversation focused on the themes of the content we’re creating.
Really enjoy your content. Not sure if you’re aware but a lot of monuments and Acropolis have free entrance on first Sunday of the month from November to March. Kanella in Kerameikos is a favourite authentic Greek restaurant great food great prices and portions.
@@Kwlas1 great advice! Thank you! I knew that about some monuments but I didn’t know that applied to the Acropolis as well
Love your channel! 🤩 we are looking at the golden visa and staying in Greece for half the year but there is so many islands.. any tips on how to find our island? We are a nomadic family with 3 young kids!
Honestly, this a complicated question. There are so many options. With the new Golden Visa rules only small islands qualify for the €400,000 Euro investment and then islands with populations with 3000 or more now have an €800,000 requirement. Those small islands are beautiful too but obviously a much different lifestyle than a big island, without access to much medical, fast travel, etc and many times everything closes in winter months. Since you want to live there 6 months of the year, this might not concern you but if you do want year round life the islands to look at are typically Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, Evia, Syros, Naxos, Kos, Chios, Kefalonia, Aegina.. and of those only the first 6 still have much community. Beyond that advice I’d say come explore your top options before investing and we also do private consultations if you need specific advice. We don’t handle anything legal but can at least tailor advice based on our experiences. Where are you from?
