Kalimera....Greetings from Down Under and wishing you both a Merry Christmas! You channel is sensational and deserves way more subscribers...was in Greece last year..saw so much and loved every minute..yassou
Great video! I haven’t had the chance to be in Greece for Christmas and the New Year festivities since I left in 1967! Anyway…if you ever make it to Thessaloniki between early-May and Late-October or the month of January (usually after the 7th) every year, give me a shout and I’ll show you around Thessaloniki and its suburbs…then you can compare this to Athens and your Crete! 😊
Thank you for the kind words and the offer. Good luck on making it back if you're looking to. We certainly know we need to make it to Thessaloniki soon but not sure when we can make it happen yet.
Really enjoy your content. Not sure if you’re aware but a lot of monuments and Acropolis have free entrance on first Sunday of the month from November to March. Kanella in Kerameikos is a favourite authentic Greek restaurant great food great prices and portions.
Funny thing, there's more Christmas markets in Athens than you get here in Montréal..Great video, i love Greece always there 2-3 times a year. Athens is more than the center its a huge city!
It’s cool but not terribly cold like most of Europe. Check the wind and clouds can by high some days.. it’s certainly not as sunny as summer but not too wet either although it does rain a few days in December and a little more in January.
"A litle bit more western" ? What do you mean? How was it before ? Like Saudi Arabia? Dubai? Man... Greece made the west! This is History 101... come on !
@@becoming_greek (=>) Ok I see where the problem is. Your use of the term west. (=>) Look, Protestant Europe is way different than Catholic Europe too. => Have you seen how they celebrate Easter in Spain. Compare it to Easter holidays in Germany. Well, who's more west between the two ? You understand my point now? (=>) Europe is big. With a lot of differences among its' different parts. But the core culture remains the same. Everybody is western in Western Europe (!). Even in Eastern Europe (ex-Soviet) to the most part. (=>) When I was an exchange student in a university in the U.S., I hosted a bunch of friends from the U.S. to my house in Greece. Guess what? They were shocked by the very little clothing the Greek women wore during summer (not to mention my sister going topless at the beach with them). (=>) Can you tell me in this case, who is the more modern - western?
Today, the term “the west” is typically used to describe The "Western World" referring to a group of countries primarily in Western Europe and North America. Seeing as Greece is geographically in Eastern Europe it does not fit that description.
@@becoming_greek No this is wrong. There is no one single typical use of the term west. => The Geographical scope you invoke it really doesn’t work. It’s just scholar and is' use is rather sloppy. Israel is in the Middle East but still considered west culturally and politically. The same with Georgia and Armenia. => From a political scope “West” are countries under NATO umbrella and “East” are countries under Ex-Soviet now Russian umbrella. Now you don’t speak on behalf the “State Department” so we exclude this use. => From a religious scope, yes, ever since 10th-11th centuries, churches under the Pope (Catholics, “Protestants”) are considered “West” and Orthodox churches (Greek or later on, Russian) are considered “East”. This view though was just geopolitics of that time, Greeks and Italians wanted to control Europe through religion and I honestly don’t think you speak on behalf of any church here. => From a cultural scope… well what to say? As I said before, the Greeks made the west in terms of values, ethics, lifestyle, etc. Yes Christianity and the Enlightenment added and completed what we consider as “West” and of course after thousands of years lifestyle changed a bit, nations developed their own idiosyncrasies and mentalities but the core culture is still the same, throughout Europe or better, the “West”. To sum it up. I am not spending so much time of my life to write this to you for any politically correct madness or simply for trolling. Since you live in Greece I wouldn’t like you to fall in the trap I’ve seen hundreds of time in my schooling years in the America where the basic belief was everything outside America is Mexico with the exceptions of Britain and France. Considering the negative connotations “East” has in lifestyle, culture, politics, someone could get offended by it.
I appreciate your passion and your perspective, but I think there may be a misunderstanding here. The term I used is a widely accepted, modern term commonly used in the U.S. and Western Europe, and it wasn’t intended to diminish Greece’s incredible contributions to democracy and Western thought over 2,000 years ago. Of course, the world has evolved since then, and today, terms like “the West” generally refer to America and Western Europe. While I respect the points you’re making, they don’t really connect to the context of our video or the statement I made. I always welcome healthy discussions about Greek culture and relevant topics, but I’d kindly ask that we keep the conversation focused on the themes of the content we’re creating.

@@Kwlas1 great advice! Thank you! I knew that about some monuments but I didn’t know that applied to the Acropolis as well
