That's 40,800 a year in living expenses. My expenses are similar to yours, just a bit less. Having a 60k a year job has you living in the line. 80k to 122k a year would have you living comfortable and building a savings /investing account
Does TX/Houston have property tax incentive for senior, primary resident ? Because 3% tax of $300K house is $10K a year or $1K a month tax. It is kind of steep for retired people on SSA, don’t you think ?
Great question! Property taxes are definitely a huge factor in our mortgage payments. There are exemptions for disabled veterans and persons 65 or older, but you’ll need to ask your local lender for specific details. Feel free to reach out for recommendations 😄
wow that is super low 100 a week 14 dollars a day assuming a couple 7 dollars a person or 2.33 a meal. Do you find your food options pretty limited at that budget?
How much do you do per month? I want to move to US so badly but everyone said that is not as it used to be. I am living in Germany and here you pay 40% taxes. Is insane.
Hello from Houston!! For taxes, you’ll pay anywhere from 25-30% depending on if the state has income taxes or not. Businesses and self-employed people might be able to write off more.

Yes taxes are a big a problem in Texas. People think they are better off not paying state taxes but property and sales taxes will eat you alive.
Heeey, how about food?
Our family of 4 spends about $500/month on groceries and that usually covers us!
