Your delivery and happy demeanour make watching, not just compelling, but thoroughly enjoyable. While the first budget hotel room works fine especially the patios and location and honestly the price is like what I paid in the USA for shared apartment 40 plus years ago at university there would come a time when one might want a proper bathroom or a desk to write etc. The Riverside condo's are great the $460 one is great but who wants that much space...lol Funny the views from Riverside are better than the Astra. I also live in Chiang Mai and really enjoyed your informative video. There's something for everyone in this beautiful city and province and at all different budgets.
Great work, are you going to cover the costs of having some fun/socialising too? Retirement needs to be enjoyable not just about survival, and whilst everyone’s idea of fun is different, the cost of a few beers in a local bar and a ticket to the cinema or 1hrs tennis court hire might be something to look at!
You are sure correct. But that's so variable for each of us. But yes, I'll get to that too. I did a video just 10 or so days ago talking about making friends and social activities, so check it out. Thanks!
I first went to Chiang Mai in 1968. I returned to live there from 1984-1994. We bought a house in the Wualai Sliver-working area for $25,000US and expanded it for another $13000. The city has changed so much that it appeals to me only for a short visit but not a permanent arrangement. There is so much to see in other SEAsian areas that being locked into one place is not for me.
I am so glad to find your channel on Chiang Mai . I have been to Chiangmai for several times and would like to know more about this city, see if I can retire here later. Thanks for your information !

You do the most meaningful reviews. The high/low prices make it easy to gauge personal cost. Your insurance review was a gem. I will personally be using your recommendation. Looking forward to more of your videos!
I stayed at the Astra for nearly 2 years. Nice building a facilities, but it's basically a big Airbnb. Loud neighbors. Guest slamming doors all day and night. Pool and gym were usually busy.
I thought the same thing when I was there! I told Joy if felt like an AirBNB. Not the place for me, but then I like more room and wood floors. Old style.
Didn't realize how fresh this video is, so I'll have to wait for part 2. You summed up this one w respect to work that went into it & it shows. You make a great couple & look very happy; good for you both! 👍🇹🇭
1 day ago I am so glad to find your channel on Chiang Mai . I have been to Chiangmai for several times and would like to know more about Pattaya City see if I can retire here later. Thanks for your information !
Pattaya is way different than Chiang Mai. CM is pretty wholesome and Pattaya is known as the place to get a girl for $. I'm sure there are other advantages too though.
Well produced & narrated by both of you, Thanks Sir! Thailand is 100x as modern as the PH, No doubt at all. Hopefully No roosters screeching 24/7, no way I'd tolerate that noise pollution.
What a dump is Chang Mai, if you go to Thailand at go to live near the beach, plus is full of western men with underage girls, and lots of ladyboys.. humidity is a nightmare over there .Been there years ago I bet now is even worst.
Great Video - loved seeing the different restaurant options and food for cooking at home. Enjoying all your videos so keep them coming 🙂 We actually start our retirement this Sunday. Flying from Australia to Bangkok and then move up to Chiang Mai a week after that - all possible due to Hailey and Yam at Elite Visas. Was quite shocked to see her in your vids. A small world indeed 🙂
Haha, yes quite funny. I only know of CM because Hailey moved here, so I followed her, and saw why she loves it. I'm so happy for you about your retirement and I hope Joy's and my videos help in some small way. Best wishes!
i do appreciate your hard work on this video> I hate those that just talk to the camera about the costs with no lists or visuals at all> thanks for the hard work>
Amazing video, A friend of mine referred me to a financial adviser sometime ago and we got talking about investment and money. I started investing with $120k and in the first 2 months , my portfolio was reading $274,800. Crazy right!, I decided to reinvest my profit and gets more interesting. For over a year we have been working together making consistent profit just bought my second home 2 weeks ago and care for my family...
I’ve been forced to find additional sources of income as I got retrenched. I barely have time to continue trading and watch my investments since I had my second daughter. Do you think I should take a break for a while from the market and focus on other things or return whenever I have free time or is it a continuous process? Thanks...

Hey Randy I really enjoyed this. I have just returned to Sydney from 3 months in Thailand, mainly in Hua Hin. I did stay in Chiang Mai for two weeks at an Air bob in the old city and really loved it. I found most people only travel there for a few days, but I could have stayed there much longer. It's so different to BKK and HH, it's like a big country town. I went to the gym everyday, the local markets and became involved with a local rugby club,. I liked the condos that you showed especially the one for B16,000 per month. Funny, you visited Number 9 (12.50) - it was my go to lunch place where I became obsessed with Kaho Soi!
Thanks, Marc, yes Hua Hin is nice too and I jusr returned from a trip there. Number 9 is okay but much better places for khao soi, haha, but glad you liked it. Glad you enjoyed Chiang Mai. Hope you spend more time here next time.

Nicely done. I'd say your format in each area of style and presentation is superior to ALL the other such monthly budget videos on any country videos I have seen so far, perhaps 30 or 40. Close ups of you two are personal and sincere. Good. Quick previews of each restaurant with a few dishes and price is substance with interest. Peaks ones interest. No boring spreadsheets. Fast paced with wrap-up summary for each segment. Very professionally done, yet personal. You must have had some previous experience doing this sort of thing in your professional lives. If not, you two are genius with creative abilities. Kudos.

Hi Joy and Randy. This is Charlie from Boston, USA. Commenting from Mexico where I currently live. I have been down here for two years off and on but my lease is up. I will return to Boston for some doctors n personal business but I am 60 and retired widower now. I got my sights on Chiang Mai possibly January. I am only halfway through your video but you are both a great energy and we all appreciate what you do. The apartment prices seem similar to what I’m paying in Mexico north of Puerto Vallarta. I will get back on your video. It should be interesting cost of living.!!! have a great day
Nice to hear from you, Charlie. Chiang Mai does not have the beautiful old buildings that parts of Mexico has, not counting our temples, but it is a nice lifestyle. here. A lot different than Mexico for sure, except maybe the shared heat.
@@RetiredGlobalLife I feel compelled to try Thailand. I am in the prime of my life at 60 and I want to do it while I still can. It was easy for me to get around Mexico and I picked up the language rather quickly. It made things a lot easier. I don’t feel that will be the case in Thailand lol. But I was looking at Columbia n southeast Asia before I came here to be honest. A good friend of mine from Boston has been talking about Thailand these past days and I ran into a guy at the gym today who brought it up to me and said he was moving there. My wheels are Turnin. My lease is up in Mexico. I don’t know much about the country but Chiang Mai looks like as good a place as any to start. I will check out some of your other videos. Thank you brother.

Great video. Thanks very much. Yes I subscribed. I found the first two options great. Why? The first two are clean. Plus close to everything. The food looked better in the cheaper restaurants. Plus they looked tastier. Appreciate the video
Yes, I tend to like simpler options, although Chala was a gorgeous setting and worth paying more, as was the Japanese restaurant. But my favorite dish is PadThai at that place we showed you, for 50 baht. Best PadThai around. Best wishes.
Thanks for your quick response! Yeah, I thought exactly the same thing, lol. I might just have to give it up, certainly wouldn't hurt me 😂. Thanks for the link, I'll check it out!

Thank you for your time and posting. I'll be looking in Vietnam but I thought this was worth my time. Thank you. Where are the pickleball courts? ;) It is interesting to me. I've been renting rooms most of my life (I'm 70) or studios. All of these are a fantastic place. For most of my travels, I've stayed in hostels, which offer a different experience. Thanks again.
The courts are about 2 min by car or MC south of the old city. Look for my pickleball video and there is a map and more info. I wish I had time to play but I rarely do.
Thanks, James, much appreciated. Joy and I had fun making it, although it was a bit more work than usual with so many locations. Come again and take care.

Haha. Are you the same gentleman who made the Clint Eastwood comment before? I don't see it, but thank you. Usually I get Eddie from Leave it to Beaver, if you go back that far. Far, far from Clint Eastwood. I'm so glad you found it helpful! Hope to hear from you again.
Hi randy, new subscriber here 👍 I'm sorry if it sounds daft, but is there any way I can remove the subtitles from your posts. Really enjoying them but can't see any prices and other information?
Hi Craig. No problem. You are likely seeing them on all your RUclips videos. Click the settings icon under the screen, likely shaped like a gear, and it will bring up settings. Then select off. That should take care of that annoying problem. My computer does it too!
Excellent topic suggestion! I will put it on my list. In a week or so I'll have part two of this Cost of Living series out and most of it will deal with health insurance for 65+. Best wishes.
Your welcome, 😊I was looking at your other video about visas, I'm 57, what other types of visas are there?, please. P.s,... I lived in Good old San Diego for 10 years😊, I'm a UK citizen
Yes, Richard it definately does. They were suspended for a while due to fradulent usage (mainly Russians evading the war), but now legit schools can get them.
Thank you for this incredibly informative video. Definitely worth a sub. I have been researching and watching videos on the Philippines for months now. It really became an obsession. But today I thought I would start watching videos on Thailand. Wow! The accommodations are similarly priced, but Thailand seems to have far more modern and cleaner accommodations, better food, better healthcare, easier transportation (since not island hopping as much), better infrastructure, cheaper and more reliable internet, and I am assuming less natural disasters. I can't wait to learn more.
Thanks and I'm so glad to bring you the info. I love Thailand and all the points you raise are true. The only drawbacks is the smokey season due to crop burning when we leave for chunks of time, and the visas may be easier in Philippines.

You are sure correct. But that's so variable for each of us. But yes, I'll get to that too. I did a video just 10 or so days ago talking about making friends and social activities, so check it out. Thanks!
Very informative. Well done.
I appreciate it Gary.
I understand that feeling completely. Will you please share your favorite places around SE Asia? Best wishes!
@@RetiredGlobalLife We like the 4000 islands area in Laos, which is our favorite country, but also like Hoi An, Vietnam, Bali, Udorn, and Trat.
Thanks for the input! I'll check out 4000 Islands.@@nareevanzanen8981
Can an american citizen get residents in Thailand or what are the requirements now ?
I am so glad to find your channel on Chiang Mai . I have been to Chiangmai for several times and would like to know more about this city, see if I can retire here later. Thanks for your information !
Linda, it is our pleasure. Thank you.
Excellent information Guys !! 👍 I plan on moving to Chiang Mai for my retirement in the near future. Getting " real " information on things in today's Chiang Mai is so important. So happy I found your channel, and subscribed 😊. Keep up the great work . I love it . ❤
Brian, I really appreciate the nice words. And glad to hear about the move to Chiang Mai.
Wait to see if he covers burning season
@@jduncan48 Yes, I already know about burning season , but there are ways to deal with it . One being , maybe an excellent time to visit the beaches and the islands in the south ? Plus , I'm from Canada 🇨🇦, and we have been going through forest fires 🌲🌳🔥🔥 and poor air quality, that the world has ever seen !! You quickly learn to adapt as best you can , and move on 👍.
@@brianwhiteside4178 my point is, when you are selling chiang Mai, and I’ve lived here 2 years and love it, you are remiss if fail to mention the downside.
@@jduncan48 I think we can both agree . There are upsides and downsides to living in Any City or Place in the world. If in your own mind the Pros outweighs the Cons, you can live anywhere you want.
You both make a great pair, fun to watch
Thanks so much! We have a lot of fun together and if I'm lucky, it will continue forever.
You do the most meaningful reviews. The high/low prices make it easy to gauge personal cost.
Your insurance review was a gem. I will personally be using your recommendation.
Looking forward to more of your videos!
Thank you for such a nice comment. I am very happy it was helpful to you. Come again. Best wishes.

I am so glad to find your channel on Chiang Mai .
Thanks! Re roosters, I have them when I visit my rural home in California, haha, but not in Thailand as of yet, but I'm a city guy there.
What a dump is Chang Mai, if you go to Thailand at go to live near the beach, plus is full of western men with underage girls, and lots of ladyboys.. humidity is a nightmare over there .Been there years ago I bet now is even worst.
Randy are you planning on doing a 2024 version of this topic? Love this yet the way inflation fluctuates it might be slightly higher now.
No, the changes are really minimal. I don't see most restaurant or rents changing since just a year ago. Even if so, add 5% I guess.
Best wishes!
i do appreciate your hard work on this video> I hate those that just talk to the camera about the costs with no lists or visuals at all> thanks for the hard work>
Thanks so much. Yes, Joy and I did certainly go out and show everything. It took a lot of time but was quite fun to do.
Thanks...

Thank you for the video. I have been visiting Chiang Mai for 10 years and I still found some useful information. Hope you have lovely time in that amazing city.
Nice to hear from you and we hope you visit again.
@@RetiredGlobalLife Matt I'll be back there again in September 2024 and hopefully getting involved with the local Rugby club. Looking forward to your recommendations for Khao soi - my new favourite dish,

I have to tell you your girlfriend is a gift from god. Hope you treat her well. I’m also lucky to have a beautiful lady who I just married in the Philippines

Nicely done. I'd say your format in each area of style and presentation is superior to ALL the other such monthly budget videos on any country videos I have seen so far, perhaps 30 or 40.
Close ups of you two are personal and sincere. Good.

Fast paced with wrap-up summary for each segment.

I totally enjoy your video, very informative and fun to watch. I noticed some of the food prices reflect what we might pay here in the U.S.

Thanks for your very informative video. Very helpful. Would you know if Thailand still offers education visas?
