The outro @24:48 felt like a warm blanket. I’m sold!
0:57 Ultimately *Oberheim* ❤
Getting my X8m this week and can‘t await to reproduce some of your splendid patches. :)
It sounds and looks good 👍 one of the better looking synths
super sounds ☺♥♥♥
I had the OB X8 on my list, but compared to your Rev2 presets and other OB X8 and Rev2 presets I have already heard, the OBX seems very limited in sound possibilities. It sounds warm and organic, yes - but nothing really blew my away.
I've to admit that I also find other synths from that range more interesting. For example, I'd always choose the OB-6 over the OB-X8. The latter has a great vintage sound but it lacks (too many) options for deeper sound design, whereas at the same time, it doesn't offer direct access like, e.g., the Trigon-6 does.
I understand the heritage philosophy but why not improve here and there? I mean, is it really necessary to hide OSC levels in a menu when there is more than enough space available?
Please @Oberheim: Do an Xpander-Clone next and I would be super happy.
@@limbicbits yeah, the OB6 will be my next buy together with the Rev2, where your presets convinced me to get the Rev2 for sure. I am not sure, if I will get the Pro-10 as it seems a bit limited.
@@nicogrubert interesting. I have an OB6 and a prophet 6... and a 3rd wave lol. I took them all to a friend who has the OBx8 and P10. I came away thinking the P6 was nicer than the P10 - but the OBx8 was considerably nicer than the OB6. One thing to note, is that bar the FX - the OBx8 actually has more modulation and deeper sound design than the OB6... something else I wasnt expecting from Demos.
The OB-X8 is anything but limited in sound possibilities. You have to extensively use the page 2 parameters though.
@@limbicbitsHey, you have demoed many very sophisticated patches here which are not possible with the OB-6. I don‘t understand your complaint.
This is exactly what I wanted to hear. The OB sound but without the cheesy 80s sounds or endless epic pads. Which synth do you feel provide the most emotional character and feeling for these kind of patches you display here? I feel like OBs always have this built in melancholic beautiful tone. The Waldorf M sounds pretty specially too. Something to do with those gritty high end harmonics. The OB8X It's one hell of an expensive synth though especially given the limitations and menu diving. Are you getting a 3rd Wave or a Nina? For me the Nina is my dream UI but I'm not convinced by the sound - not until you get your hands on one anyway!
I guess I know what you mean and certainly prefer the OB-6 over the OB X8, tbh. It offers more options for sound design and the overall sound speaks more to me. Plus, it's more affordable.
I'll receive a loaner of the 3rd Wave, soon, but haven't tried the Nina synth, so far.
@@limbicbits I'm struggling between the two. I did always want an OB-X ever since I heard the retrosound demos - it was the most alive, raw, emotional, 3 dimensional sound i've ever heard from a synth. I really love the whole gritty emotive saturated tone of the OB6 I've heard though. Most of your synth demos lean that way which is probably why I love them. What do you think it is about the sound of the OB6 vs OBX8? I do think it's a bit of a shame sequential are so tight on their modulation on their highest end synths compared to the rev 2 and pro 3.
I think you've summed it up quite accurately. OB-6 to me provides more depth, rawness, and in a certain way melancholic aesthetic that I was struggling to get out of the OB-X8. That plus the more extensive modulation possibilites on the OB-6 makes it better for my needs @@MadelnMachines
@@limbicbits What is better about the modulation with the OB6? I thought they were both quite similar and limited really. I saw the OBX8 has the extra LFO for pitch and still has some Xmod. The Yorick Low Frequency Expander seems a great addition for them. Which envelopes are more snappy?
Of all my synths, this is my favorite by far
