It's because retro collecting used to be fun. Like a treasure hunt. And then resellers came along. And now the treasure hunt is over and the resellers just sit there and overprice everything and screw over the people who just wanted to buy the game and play it. And the sad thing is that it doesn't really take any talent. Anyone with a phone, eBay, and a car can do it. It's not creating anything. It's just taking away history and making it inaccessible.

This is a easy convo/argument to end
If stuff/hobby items becomes expensive/go up, reselling/business side will take over
It’s just like every other hobby items that items that go up

When a reseller haggles an old lady from $5 to $3, for a $500 gaming bundle, it’s just ecstasy to them.

youthful ignorance. young guy will haggle the old lady for that 500 for 5 dollars. he gonna sell that for 500 to someone like me who might be 20 years older than that guy. now i hold onto it for 20 years. now im at a garage sale. "me being old" you will think i never played video games in my life. LOL. when you ask me how much. im gonna say 5000 dollars. and you'll pay because there will be NONE available

the resellers i watch normally make their "selling content" at home they are a bit more proper than other people.
the shouting about it while walking away is new to me honestly.
In the uk i think were a little bit different so we do bootfairs (what americans call flea markets) and most of the footage is go pro they show what they pickup and then the next part of the video is them at home and showing what they got and then they go through the price's and how much it will go through.
Iv watched a few american resellers who are a bit more mannered which is nice but i agree some people dont understand being rude anymore which sucks for the customer, sucks for the viewer.
I resell sometimes so i buy stuff from different place's then i do a bootfair or ebay auctions but i dont record anything i just use it as a hobby and to make some extra cash on the side. but even if i did record it and make a channel about it then id follow the rule of being nice to the seller originally and being honest with the viewer..
Iv watched chase the right price i like their content as they acctually do talk about what they buy and why things are the way they are.

I totally get prices going up for old games that are only available on old platforms. I recently had a local game store charge $150 for FF7 Remake Intergrade on PS5 even though it's widely available digitally for 60 bucks and physically online for 40. They missed the point.

I've been blissfully unaware of any reseller channels thankfully but yeah, that would really grate. You're right, videogames have just become a commodity to flip by people who don't care if it's a limited edition pair of sneakers, rare vinyl or a low print run Nintendo game. It's just a price tag to them that they know someone out there will pay. Sadly it seems it's just a mentality that's everywhere today. Look at the unholy mess that concert tickets are in with sellers bleating about "supply and demand" to justify ripping people off.

What's wild to me is that other types of resellers don't get this kind of hate and vitriol towards them. There are so many channels out there of people flipping VHS tapes, toys, clothing, guns, furniture, gold/silver, and other collectibles and they don't get near the hate that video game resellers get. I don't have a channel, but I do go out and hunt yard sales for video games and if I see a copy of Mario Kart Wii for 50 cents, damn right I'm picking it up to trade for a $20 game that I actually want - OR even trade that for $20 cash which I then trade for a game I want :) I do agree that these content creators shouldn't brag on their way down the driveway for sure.

I always wonder if videogame collectors get mad at the other collectors who are paying the top dollars on ebay for these games. I mean, to be fair, they're the ones setting the price on these games. If they weren't paying these prices the resellers wouldn't be buying them up because the profit wouldn't be there. I personally know more then one game collector who is more then willing to pay full eBay prices for games they want because they don't enjoy going out and hunting week after week after week hoping to find the games at yardsales and flea markets. So people getting mad at resellers always feels a little like "Don't shoot the messenger" to me. Or are there tiers in the collectors world, like the guys who go out and hunt are the TRUE collectors, and the ones who go on eBay and click "buy it now" are not?

I agree. People can always "speak" with their actions and wallet in these cases. These aren't necessities like food and water imo. Sure, I love to collect, but we can't complain about the resellers without calling out the collectors purchasing these at crazy prices too on eBay and Amazon! Sellers set the high prices and buyers lock those in for future sellers. Also, I think you can collect via online and in person. But, it's the price point and the people involved that are more of the issue.

The videogame market is getting ridiculous! Prices are crazy! Also everyone needs to make money. Everyone got to support themselves or a family! I wish that these resellers would be more respectful to who they are buying from! If they are not, they are just a scum bag!

Game reseller of ten years here. A couple things:
-I've never understood why people make brag videos about their pickups. I remember a time when the entire point of being a picker was to keep your mouth shut so nobody else caught on to what you knew was worth money. Less was ALWAYS more, when it came to "shop talk". RUclipsrs have ruined that.
-I have always stood behind a moto that it isn't my job to tell sellers what their property is "worth". If it was "worth" more to them, they would have spent 1 minute on the internet doing the absolute bare minimum of research. My only exceptions to this are for children and elderly.
-Resellers do the hard work, take all the risk and yes...we take all the cash at the point of sale. We earned it. It's ours. Fair and square. End of discussion.
-Speaking of that. Sellers and buyers are in a relationship. We BOTH set the market price together. Sellers are NOT holding buyers hostage and forcing them to pay "our" prices. The market sets the price and the market is the sellers and the buyers cooperating together. Again: End of discussion.
-Personally, as an ebay seller, I can scroll endlessly thru my reviews of all the people who thank me for my items and for the service I offer. My business relies on happy customers and business is GOOD.
-Something city folk forget is that HUGE areas of the USA and Canada are nowhere near cities and there's active video game cultures in these small markets who are MORE than happy to pay reasonable prices for video games online. I've gotten to recognize the area codes of a lot of my repeat customers and trust me...these people are NOT going to any yard sales any time soon. They rely 100% on the reselling community and they are more than happy to do business with us.
-Finally, to the people who complain that {insert video game title here} used to be 25 cents before the resellers starting hoarding all the games and now that same game sells for 25 bucks. Yeah. So. Markets change. That's life. See previous point about buyers and sellers setting the market value TOGETHER.
    I don't often comment but when I do, it's a novel :)

My mom and i went to a game store the other day and she made a great point. When things get old and demand goes up and supply goes down the prices go up.
And then there is issues with shipping these old consoles. that after it leaves them there is a high probability of issues occurring. Theres actually an online store everyone shits on but i get great results everytime. And when i don't they give me credits and replacements immediately with no questions asked.
I hate scalpers but at when it comes to businesses and profit margins a store still needs to make money to pay for overhead and also employee salaries.

Or maybe you paid wildly inflated prices during an evening of drunken Heritage Auction bidding and now you're stuck holding several PAL versions of titles cuz you weren't paying attention. I mean....hypothetically, of course.

Buddy, anybody has the opportunity to either go out and get great deals or determine their stuff's value. If the garage sale host decided they wanted to be an online reseller instead then they'd have 100 random resellers ready to support and teach them at any moment. Instead they got what they wanted for it and so did the reseller who can make it available for people who don't even have to get out of bed. Nobody is celebrating in anyone's face if they're average mannered and want to continue to find deals. Supply and demand determines the final value and nobody's getting cheated. Go outside, touch grass, hit some yard sales, and get those sweet deals instead of looking mad and confused on the internet.
