      Fellow Utahn of English ancestry here!
      I would guess the English ancestry is so high in Utah because of the Mormon pioneers. There were a lot of people who came from Britain (especially England) in the 1800s because of the religion, and many of the church members eventually migrated to Utah. That's at least been the case for many people I've spoken to here about English ancestry.

    • @blondee84
      @blondee84 3 месяца назад +1

      @valdezjones That sounds right. Aside from one great-grandma, who came in the 1910s, all of my English ancestors came with the pioneers

    The fish tossing thing is true, but not all that exciting really.
    It started because they had no short path to walk between the display side and the cutting/wrapping side of the market stall, so they would toss the fish. Later they added some showmanship.

    I did spend a weekend in London. On one of the windows of one of the numerous fish and chip shops there was a sign on one of the windows that read ‘English spoken here, American understood. I watch your videos all the time. You’re hilarious.

Figured it would be high because I've seen a lot of people mention that they're from my little city in the comments over the years. Lawrence, what do you think of Gillian Anderson? She has dual citizenship USA and Britain, and when she's speaking to British people she has a British accent, but it turns into an American accent when she's talking to Americans (such as the show I know her from, "The X-Files", which was on when I was in high school (graduated 96)) 🙂

    What do most of these states have in common? Long periods of time that people spend indoors due to lousy weather - dreary rainy (Oregon,Washington), bone cold (Minnesota, Wisconsin), lots of snow (Michigan, Ohio, Illinois), and Missouri has beastly hot, humid summers as well as icy, damp winters.
    I’ve also lived in many of the top 10 states - Missouri, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois.

I just so happened to have Handel’s “Zadok: The Priest” playing in the background as you announced the #1 state, which just happened to be named after the first president who rejected regal trappings of British royalty. The Olympic peninsula also has some crazy looking majestic forests covered in mosses and mist. On a clear day you can see Rainer from 250 miles away as long as you also have a little elevation and clear a sky.

In our quaint downtown we have a lovely shop called “Best of British.” Outside on the sidewalk is a looming King’s Guard statue in a bearskin hat. One day, we were driving a visiting guest and passed the shop. She wryly remarked, “don’t they know they lost?!”
