I remember being given this advice as a young couple: Get a dog. It will prepare you for having a child. Get a cat. It will prepare you for a teenager.
Think this is part of why I prefer cats a bit. Don't get me wrong, dogs are more "useful" and "friendlier," but I feel like cats being more rebellious and not good listeners makes them feel more like people sometimes. There's a certain level of autonomy they get that dogs don't really have.
In my lifetime I've "owned" a cat, dog, fish, snake, rabbit, bird, guinea pig, hamster, turtle, 1/2 coyote dog, and a horse (I believe the horse thought I belonged to him). Pets are awesome.
@@maidenminnesota1 😂😂😂 I just realized how that sounds. I meant he was a half breed coyote and alaskan husky. He was nuts. Loved to eat my toys, clothes, and would not leave me alone.
Sounds like me, many dogs, a few cats, guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, rats, mice, a rabbit, ferrets, a grey squirrel, a flying squirrel, a barn owl and many tanks of fish, monitor lizards and a tegu, finches (briefly). Not all at the same time, although I did have four dogs, two cats and three ferrets that could all be let loose in the house together (supervised) without trouble. Then my son had a corn snake that escaped frequently. When I was growing up my mother had cockatiels (hated them, NOISY!)
I'm going to let the cat out of the bag here..🤭 when we invade we should take both the horses and the cats. The horses will cause a distraction while the sneaky ninja cats stealthily move into position. They will then simultaneously trip almost everyone in England and we will seize the power! We will then demand clotted cream, fancy cheeses and butter, and rename "chips" to french fries; crisps to chips. We will wreak havoc and rule the world!!!
my cat singlepawdedly drew me out of my severe depression. i can’t imagine not having him. we treat our pets like our children, many of us. i highly recommend having a pet, if possible
When children are raised with pets, they learn compassion, sympathy, and empathy. They learn what unconditional love means. They learn to give unconditional love. They learn how to be responsible for another life. And they learn the pain of loss.
So true, i lost so many dogs in my life, that death is natural, its part of life, even tho their gone, their in a better place and wont be replaced. Their family, its like when your grandparents dies, they can't be replaced.
@@kritikitti3868 That's true. I read a study a while back that was done in a mennonite community. The children there are raised around farm animals and pets. The allergy rates for those kids are remarkably low.
Cats are far more trainable than they are usually given credit for being (and that includes walking pn leashes). I have trained 2 of my cats to walk on leashes and one would walk along with my dog like they were a pack... 😏 Harness training was "fun," but once they realized the harness meant going outside, they were full on board! 😁 It was good exercise AND the bonus of all the crazy looks from the neighbors, and passersby, was PRICELESS! 😉
The first cat we had, when we tried to train him for walking outside on a harness, he would just promptly lay down on the sidewalk and absolutely refuse to move. We never got past this. The last cat we had hated being outside, believe it or not! I would go outside the front door holding her, and she would try scrambling over my shoulder to get back in the house. If I sat her down on the porch, she would immediately run back inside! She loved to sit at a screened open window, though!
Yes! I've known several trained cats. Including one puffy legend who used to be walked around the neighborhood on a harness. It was so cute I could not even. Several I knew belonged to one person who grew up in a dog-training family, ended up loving cats and had never heard they couldn't be trained so she just trained hers. All of them. If I ever get a cat again, I'll start with a kitten. It's easier if you start when they're younger.
@@Anelisa8520 it is. thats what I did with mine.i trained him to walk on a harness, to be brushed, to tolerate his nails being clipped when he was a kitten. later he started learning words, I taught him to sit, lie down, jump, up (on his hind legs) to get the treat....hes really intelligent.😺
@@SpicyTexan64 my cats love me, I am sure. Even if I am outside for a few minutes 4 of them always stand on the cabinet near the door waiting for me to come back inside. When I ask who wants a kiss they all give me a kiss by pressing there lips on mine. I am nearly 70 and my husband passed away so these cats entertain me, keep me company and are always showing me affection. They come by name, love belly rubs, and follow me everywhere in the house. When I put on their bedtime music they run to the bedroom. When I wake up in the morning my four kissy kitties give me a kiss. They are just as affection and devoted as any dog I have ever had. My sister and others have said that my cats are so special and think it is because I raise them as children, not pets, and they know I love them.
I'm one of those Americans that answers YES to pets. We have some acreage, so we have a horse and a pony, a goat, a flock of chickens and ducks, a rabbit colony, cats, dogs *and* fish. You would think that I'm the source of the pets, but my husband brought the pony home in *my car*. I still haven't forgiven him for that...
My son came home from school with a nine month old, 6lb kitten. We have an ancient toy poodle and a 3 year old corgi. Within 2 weeks the kitten was running the household with an iron paw.
The history of horses in the US is really interesting, but to answer your question... What is this, the wild west? Why yes, yes it is :) Cheers from Colorado!
Also salutations from Utah! Our train home once hit a cow. Actually two cows. There were also a whole lot of ladies from Hong Kong on board at the time, all in the same suit, obviously from some kind of convention. THAT was their introduction to Utah. Welcome to America! XD (Even more fun, it's a double-decker train. Like the iconic British buses.)
Hell, I'm not doing anything more important, so I'll go ahead and give the fascinating little history lesson. Horses are endemic to the Americas. What you ask? You thought there weren't any horses in the Americas until the Spanish brought them in the late 1400s? Well, you're right! But.... Horses originated in North America millions of years ago, it is believed. They migrated throughout the Americas and lived good lives here too, populating large swaths of both continents...until about 10,000-15,000 years ago and then they just disappear from the fossil records. We don't know why, but what we do know is that some had managed to cross the land bridge that connected Alaska with Siberia, just as the first humans were going in the opposite direction. Apparently, the horses liked Asia and eventually they were domesticated by central Asian herding tribes, probably the ancestors of the Mongols. They were further refined through selective breeding until today. They found their way back to America thanks to Christopher Columbus and his successors. Modern horses don't look much like their ancestors from the Americas, but they are classified as the same species.
That would be a very very very stupid evolutionary disadvantage. I dunno why people think fish are stupid, goldfish are just as smart as other fish or specific animals
I'm low on food but I made sure my two cats have enough to eat for next 2 months . . Speaking of horses in America , the founder of Mars candy company named the Snickers candy bar after the family pet horse
Linda Easley I think the “overbuying” will settle down pretty soon. But if you get desperate, you could shred newspaper finely for kitty. (Or any kind of paper) or use regular sand? In any case, you are a good owner to make them a priority, too 👍 .
Rudy, my ginger boy, would like you to know that Kafka is greeting you appropriately. “Tail in my human’s face” is his favorite greeting, usually first thing in the morning. 😂
This is true! I've never trained a goldfish but I did have a betta fish trained to flare at my finger and jump out of the water for food. I'm assuming goldfish have similar mental capacity.
I've got fish tank ,and when you stand up walk over to feed them , without even touching the tank, they all gather round expectantly ,so they must have some kind of memory
Also bettas! You can train them to go through hoops. I just wish people knew how hard they actually are to keep alive. Tropical fish require lots of knowledge and are more finicky, more than freshwater fish care.
Or the cat is being distracted from his constant hand waving lol. Btw if you want to keep a cat occupied for an hour or so, just put a fidget spinner on the ground. It works wonders
what's interesting about cats is if you read the history of their domestication, you'll actually come out with the realization that cats were never properly domesticated,at least not by us. effectively most experts agree that they domesticated themselves, they basically realized that being around humans was an extremely good opportunity because it meant easy access to food. so over time they just got used to being around us and here we are but again they effectively domesticated themselves.
I inherited a parrot from my weed smoking brother in law. He smoked a LOT of weed. The parrot picked up a few things. Once, I swallowed wrong and started hacking and coughing like a tuberculosis patient. Pretty soon, the bird started to make a noise that I can only describe as a bubbling bong, followed by a deep cough. Did I mention the BIL smoke a LOT of weed? Lots and lots.
Hahaha hahaha 😂 I have a great blue fronted amazon parrot and he is suuuper smart!! He's just my best friend!!!🐦 Parrots are great fun and entertaining, but definitely not for most people.
Dave077 No, they’re more domesticated than their human owners that are hoarding kitty litter. As of right now, I can’t order it online from Chewy or PetSmart.
I cannot speak the consumer end but people there are much more likely to train their dogs to be behaved in public. This is why dogs are allowed in places where they have been banned here.
@@AnikaBren It's not clear which country you are referring to in your comment. But if it is America banning animals from areas there is a simple explanation. It is a health code violation. The exception is service dogs, but they are highly trained animals.
Fluffballs and reptiles are generally kept by the children in a household. You'd have to go looking in their rooms to find them. I kept hamsters as a young girl. I currently have 2 dogs and 7 cats. Cats are my absolute favorite creature on earth!!
The irony is that those fluffballs really shouldn’t be owned by children, a majority of them like hamsters are quite moderate to difficult to own due to their needs and concerns
I’m 55 and my hubby and I have 6 dogs, too many cats (thank goodness we live in the country), a Mississippi Map turtle and 4 fancy goldfish in a pond! Can ya tell I ❤️animals! 🐶 🐱 🐢 🐠 In the past we had 2 house bunnies as well! 🐰
Russian Blue. They're large and powerful cats. Very strong personalities. Cats expect to be worshiped, Russian Blues demand it. They have an English cousin, the British Blue, which has a more "smashed" muzzle and very round head. The "i can haz cheezburger" cat is a Brit. The British Blue can rightfully be called a Cheshire cat, because they were a common sight on the docks of Chester, England.
Your cat is adorable. Agree on using the term domesticated loosely when it comes to cats. IMO part of a cat's charm is that it's not servile; their cuteness doesn't hurt either. Had one when I was a teen that would only eat 2 brands of food, give her anything else & she'd act like she was burying it. She'd exaggerate said motions for emphasis. Love the deadpan delivery you do with all your videos. It reminds me of Ben Stein in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
Dogs about humans: "they feed me, they walk me, they give me water, let me live with them. They must be Gods". Cats: "They feed me, give me water, let me live with them. I AM a God". Are cats or dogs smarter, hard to say. Some dogs are very smart. Cats on the other hand don't care one way or the other what you think, they KNOW they are smarter, and that's all that matters.
Sadly,. many people breed dogs to be like that. Btw, my good friend has a rescue Pit Bull & she says he's generally sweet but he gets aggressive at times . I'm worried that he'll harm her or her kids so I hope she gets him under control..
Cats-they're all crazy, each in its own way, which is what I love about them. I have a big calico named Cleo. Her favorite things are fresh laundry and whatever I happen to be eating for lunch or dinner (she always wants some, even when she doesn't want it, if you know what I mean). I hardly ever call her Cleo. Most of the time I call her Bonker, because she likes to give me head butts. As for Kafka being dumb: he has you pretty well trained, doesn't he?
@@kathryngeeslin9509 No. No difference. Because Cats are the only animals that socially bond with their "property." "I love this person! Better hurry up and make him my slave!" That's part of what makes Cats certifiably insane as animals.
My cat Wormy begs me for a bite when I'm eating such foods as baked beans and potato chips. He does, however, gobble them down. He is strange. Which I suppose is true of all cats.
@@mdee860 I’m not going to let my hamsters go free range. Letting rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, or ferrets out for extended free time is great and encouraged, but letting them roam free when guests are in your home is asking for a tragic accident involving feet that are not accustomed curious babes and those curious babes.
I knew a family that had an aviary with 20+ birds of various species and I remember being told that you shouldn't have just one pet bird because the loneliness can make them depressed. I had a pair of parakeets that were mates and after one of them choked to death on a sunflower seed the other refused to eat anything and eventually starved to death. So I'm very much inclined to believe that birds suffering from depression and or loneliness is an actual problem.
kbrock 9146 I have two cats and one dog things can get bad sometimes but they have actually learned there place in our home. My big female cat is the boss and she makes sure they know that!!!🤣🤣🤣
I have a fish tank with a unknown number of fish in it, a Border Collie, a Australian Shepard. Two Quarter horses, a Thoroughbred Quarter horse cross, and cows lots of cows... one which is an actual pet since she had to be bottle raised.
I read "Two Quarter horses" and had two thoughts nearly simultaneously: -- Two quarter horses equals one half horse. -- Actually, they're buck-and-a-quarter horses, but don't tell him that.
My dad loves to brag about his childhood cat, Brutus. Brutus once arranged mice in a row on the porch. When my grandmother screamed, he got the idea. He put them on the lawnmower the next time. The cat was no freeloader.
A lot of places in America we are only allowed to have a cat. They grow on you. I owned two guinea pigs and they brought me a lot of joy. I couldn't believe how appreciative they are (when I got them a bigger cage) and how SMART they are at communicating with their owners. It really blew my mind how smart they are and loving and appreciate what you do for them. They do take a lot of work, but WOW what an experience those two taught me about life. It was Godly to me, to be honest. You know I love your videos.
@@Maggot39967 They don't waste anything on their corn cob and eat it in an orderly fashion. They give each other haircuts and if you put a vegetable or fruit in their cage they don't like, they politely put in the corner to say: mom, we don't like it... don't waste your money. And when the female gives birth, the guy sits outside of the hut. Totally blew my mind. Buy them a new house or toy or clean their cage, so happy. Their pads and nails and ears have to be kept clean for any little ones maybe wanting a couple. Pretty awesome.
Fish can actually remember things up to a year. I have 1 betta, 2 snails, 7 neons, 2 cory, 2 goldfish and a mino. We also have two dogs a mini Aussie and shihzu mix Maltese. I'm saving up for my own horse.
We’re a cat household. 4 cats, on our second group as a married couple. Our rainbow bridge girls lived to 21, 21, 18, 15. Our fur babies now are 11, 11, 10, and 5. I grew up with cats and dogs. They’re family, not pets. 😸😸😸😸
21 years with some of the best friends you'll ever have. I hope to have as many healthy years with my baby girl, who is 17 atm. I also have an 8yr old boy and a 3yr old girl. I always feel like we have an invisible tether between me and the oldest one, we naturally wander to follow the other if one leaves the room. It isn't always her following me either! I feel the tug if she wanders too far or is gone too long and I have to follow. There is a definite soul connection between us and it is just an amazing bond. Pets bring such a genuine love into the household and they have helped me through some rough times emotionally.
You know fish can remember you because of they're reaction to who feeds them is clearly different. Some types will even enjoy being petted by the person they know. I even had a salt water snail that I could call to the top of the tank to feed by patting the water, I would then tap it's shell and it would make a little bowl on it's head with it's foot, when I gave it all the food or treat I would touch the edge of the bowl it made and it would pull it down against the glass and eat it. Blew everyone's mind when it learned that within a couple hours of being given to me against my will. Darn snail even showed problem solving skills. Wish I had a phone with a camera back then. I do think goldfish are one of the dumber fish out there though.
Our pet goldfish, Fred, started as the prize at the fair, and was able an inch long. By the time he passed years later, he was over 7 inches long and was nearly carp. Also, he knew his name and he would swim to the top of the tank for pets. I miss Fred.
After awhile one comes to realize and accept that cats own their 'owners' not the other way around. If you really like or just love cats your ok with that. They choose us not the other way around. By the way, your cats beautiful.
I have 1 cat right now. He’s a rescue. His name is Sunshine. In the past I’ve had many dogs. I’ve even had three rescue shelties and one from a puppy. At my stage in life a cat is just easier to care for. You really don’t own them they own you. I love my cat!!💕😺
There's a cat that resides in my workplace. She makes the day enjoyable, but damn is it hard to tear away from her in order to get my job done. The moment she sees me, she'll run up to me, meow, and rub up against me. "I love you! I love you! I love you! Now follow me to all of my favorite places so you can pet me in them!" My heart is torn every morning.
I take care of my sister's cat, she's the sweetest little thing and just so timid. When she walks on you it's like little marshmallows. Even when she tries to wake me up she taps me so gently it's like a marshmallow. Even her licking his gentle like a wet marshmallow. And she always wants to sleep next to my face.
Concerning smaller pets, the care standards for hamsters (for instance) tend to be higher in the UK. I mean the cages our pet shops sell are still too small for them (they need at least 80x50cm unbroken floorspace) but at least they're not just straight up dangerous (Tiny Tales cages in the US, which are marketed more as toys for children as opposed to habitats for animals). I've also noticed in various Facebook care communities I'm in for small animals (rats, hamsters) breeding them for 'fun' is more widely done in the US. Also pet rats are sold alone (BIG no-no) SO often in the US since they're generally sold for live feeding reptiles (basically all but illegal in the UK) whereas in the UK the main pet shop has a policy that doesn't allow them to be sold alone, which is good at least. Just a thing I've noticed from adminning/being part of various groups.
Just an thought have you considered fostering homeless animal's? The shelter pays for all the food and medical bills. All you have to do is love them. Obviously I don't know your living situation, but many people don't know about fostering programs and how they work, so I thought I'd mention it. I hope you can afford a pet soon. 🙂

Had one in Arizona, she was half feral. Had coyotes too, right across the street which was South Mountain Park, (The largest Municipal Park in the world.) They never got the cat. They were no trouble at all.
Same with Nebraska. Tons of coyotes here. I used to live in Arizona where the coyotes are smaller and I was shocked at how huge they are here. Turns out that the largest coyote subspecies lives here in the Midwest (I think the same large subspecies might also live in parts of New Mexico, but I'm not 100% sure). Thankfully, they usually keep to themselves, but if a small pet strays too far from a house, the coyotes won't hesitate to catch it if they're hungry enough. There's a breeding pair in my area and part of their territory is in our forested backyard so we can't ever let our cats out. Thankfully, one is too scared to go out anyways, and the other has been an indoor cat his whole life so he doesn't really ask to go out and we keep him very entertained with toys and games inside. We signed an agreement at the humane society we got him from that he would be indoor only, which is their policy for adopting cats out, partly because it's technically illegal in my location to allow any pet, even a cat, to go out off-leash unless it's safely contained in an inescapable enclosure (but it's never really enforced unless the pet causes trouble).
I don't think I'd have an outdoor cat anywhere anymore. Last one we let out went missing for 2 weeks and came home with a mangled-up leg that had to be amputated. Vet thought he got caught in a car engine. He still lived to be 17.
@@Cadwaladr My mom's cat she had back in the 70s and 80s also had to have her leg amputated when she got her leg mangled by some farm equipment. My sister's cat went missing and never came back so we suspect that he died (somebody who lives near me routinely shoots cats who come onto his property). One of my childhood cats went missing for 7 months in 2009 and we only got Mimi back because we have all our pets microchipped and somebody called the humane society about her when a winter storm was coming in. It turns out that she was just in a different neighborhood, having taken a wrong turn somewhere (a cat that she interacted with had been hit by a car, so I wonder if she saw that happen and got too startled to find her way home). She was so happy to be home and we had another 9 years with her until she passed away in 2018 at the age of 17. Her sister passed away a year later at the age of 18, outliving Mimi by one year. With all that's happened, it seems best to keep our cats inside. Our vet agrees but that's a discussion each person should have with their vet or local humane society (I do strongly recommend keeping cats indoors if possible though).
Well, let's be real... having a cat starts at 2. Even with immediate full cohabitation, cats will quickly learn to get along. When I brought my current mostly-grey kitty home as an older kitten from the parking lot where I worked, her late adopted sister (who did live with other cats all her life, to be fair) basically accepted the kitten immediately. It was only the newcomer that growled, hissed and hid. That lasted all of about 2 days. When I saw the elder grooming the younger, I knew they'd settled in together.
I have loved all my pets. Had 3 dogs that lived 20 years each. A Cocktail that lived 30 years, a Love Bird 20 years , A Beta fish 5 years, a Large Fancy Tail Gold fish (but he only had one small spot of gold, all white). Just got my second Beta ,one year and two parakeets one year. All my pets are resting in my backyard, with memory stones. I had a bond with each. Even the fish. They would come when I called their names. My new Beta Murdock will be sleeping and I can call him, he will come. So Sweet. His little fins flapping like a puppies tail wagging. My mom who just passed away. Called me Doctor Doolittle. Love watching you. Always wanted to go to your home land. 🙃💕💫😎😉
I have 1 cat left now. She's 16 yrs old . I used to have 11 cats but every year I have lost one. Cats are the best . 1 of my cats lived to be 19 yrs and 9 months old when she passed away. Your cat looks like my cat that I just mentioned . Have a nice week ! 🐈🐾🐱
Had a similar experience, then a stray brought three kittens, introduced to me and gave them to my last cat, and died before I got her to the emergency hospital. So we gained kittens, and their father has sort of moved in.
I had a cat who lived till she was 22. After she passed, I said never again will I have one. It just hurt too bad. Someone had to give up their cats, and I felt sorry for them. Now I have two. It was three, but she went to Kitty heaven!
There is an animal sanctuary near us and they do have eagles that were injured and rehabilitated but can’t be released due to permanent injuries to its wing. They keep them in a large aviary
I swore for years that I "hate" cats but then I got one, not that I wanted it but he has been a comfort too me and can't wait for me to sit down on the sofa so he can jump in my lap and snuggle with me. I guess I don't really "hate" them all that much.

I fell off a two year old filly. She was just bought by my cousin and he was so excited. The family decided to take a family photo with me on the horse. She was saddled. I was three years old. The family was at the farm of my grandparents. They all gathered around and took the photos. Then, someone let go of her reins, not me. She took off down the driveway toward the highway. I tried to hold onto the pommel. I fell off halfway down the drive. Thank the Lord! I woke up in the doctors office. Needless to say, I don’t like to ride nor heights for that matter. I have one dog and a six month old kitten.
My house has multiple types of pets lol. We have a dog, a cat, and I keep aquatic tanks. I currently have two 10 gallon tanks, each housing one betta, and then a 29 gallon tank home to a small colony of blue velvet neocaridina shrimp. In the spring, I'm going to get some phoenix rasboras. It just got too cold to ship anything living in the mail, so I'm waiting until it warms up. Plus, that'll give the shrimp colony time to establish itself.
I have a horse and a pony. The pony used to belong to a girl with leukemia and the horse is an elderly barrel racing horse that was abused and skinny as a bone when I got her.
Laurence, I love cats because dogs have masters and cats have staff. My cat knows that I work for him, not the other way around. By the way, you have an absolutely lovely cat.
As a fellow Brit who has lived in the United States for many years one thing I have noticed is that a lot of rural households with dogs in the U.S. will keep the dogs outside compared to mostly indoor dogs in the U.K.
Your cat Kafka is awesome! Lol. Twitching his tail at you, demanding attention then trying to bite you. This was a great topic, very informative, and entertaining, & a subject that lots of people can relate to because they have various pets. So Thank you, Laurence and Kafka, great video!🐱👍
Re horses in USA, a lot of people only have one or a few horses, but they are kept stabled with other people's horses. That's why you don't see them outside people's houses, lols. (also, horses are not permitted in a lot of places, unless they're working horses, such as police horses). If you've ever rented a horse in USA, there's a good chance you were on a privately owned horse that stays in a shared stable, where the rentals supplement the costs of keeping the horse.
I had a neighbor growing up that would to go grocery shopping with his iguana draped across head and shoulders. It was funny to watch our little small town southern church ladies give him a very wide berth.🤣
Regarding the "3 second memory of a fish" theory, as a long time aquarium owner ive always found this to be false. Ive actually taught tricks to several of my fish. Such as waving at them and getting them to respond instantly and happily, which they can show an obvious sense of happiness by moving side to side or even up and down in an excited manner. My Angelfish loves to wiggle side to side. Side note to any fish owners, if u buy a cheap handheld mirror or 2 and place it up against the glass your fish WILL LOVE YOU FOR IT! Its adds some extra amusement on top of fish already being entertaining. Another trick ive taught many fish is shaking the food container in front of them. They actually LEARN what it is and become bursting with excitement. Ive even done my own experiments with my fish to test their memory. I think what might be true is maybe they have a TOTAL memory comprised of only taking up about 3 seconds in totality. But just a warning to any non fish owners out there, it can be difficult sometimes to take care of tanks properly, so its not for everyone.
True, tanks are alot of work to care for properly! I never thought of mirrors! What a good idea. My fish did respond to dinner time when I shook the food container. And my goldfish(es?) would react to me when I walked by their tank, expecting food or treats, I suppose.
I love how you take such good care of your fish! I think they are more intelligent than we give them credit for, but like many other animals, they get bored and stupid in captivity with nothing to stimulate their minds.
Yes I have great admiration for you! I inherited a betta fish in a classroom and I kept him alive for over a year and it was a lot of work! He ended up getting something where his fin was rotting off and I tried so many different medicines and treatments and nothing seemed to help! The last one I tried, I followed the directions but they were wrong, and it ended up killing him. 😥 I was so upset because I had tried so hard to save him. I still feel so awful about it I can hardly think about it. I loved having him but it’s a crazy amount of work to keep the tank clean.

Which half of the coyote did you have?
You belonged to the cat, cats have no owners.😁
I want to know stories of how you stopped them all from trying to eat each other.

When children are raised with pets, they learn compassion, sympathy, and empathy. They learn what unconditional love means. They learn to give unconditional love. They learn how to be responsible for another life. And they learn the pain of loss.

Do your neighbors say "crazy cat lady is taking her cat for a walk again...."?

The history of horses in the US is really interesting, but to answer your question... What is this, the wild west? Why yes, yes it is :)
Cheers from Colorado!
Also salutations from Utah! Our train home once hit a cow. Actually two cows.
There were also a whole lot of ladies from Hong Kong on board at the time, all in the same suit, obviously from some kind of convention. THAT was their introduction to Utah. Welcome to America! XD
(Even more fun, it's a double-decker train.
And as I love to remind people, the state with the most horses per square mile is the Garden State. Cheers from New Jersey!

3-second rule, not true for goldfish. You can actually train them to a small extent.

what's interesting about cats is if you read the history of their domestication, you'll actually come out with the realization that cats were never properly domesticated,at least not by us. effectively most experts agree that they domesticated themselves, they basically realized that being around humans was an extremely good opportunity because it meant easy access to food. so over time they just got used to being around us and here we are but again they effectively domesticated themselves.

I'd like to see a video on the differences between how people care for their cats and dogs and the consumer culture around it in America and the UK.
I cannot speak the consumer end but people there are much more likely to train their dogs to be behaved in public. This is why dogs are allowed in places where they have been banned here.
I think the care standards are slightly better for pets in Europe than in America, so that would be kind of a heavy topic.
@@AnikaBren It's not clear which country you are referring to in your comment.

Cat: Pet me or I’ll attack you! Never mind, I attack you anyway.
Dogs do a lot more damage when they attack.
A dog attacking a child makes the T. V news and results in the dog being destroyed.

The adorableness is to distract you from the fact that they're all cold-blooded murderers to the depths of their cute little apex predator souls!

My mom's cat she had back in the 70s and 80s also had to have her leg amputated when she got her leg mangled by some farm equipment.
Cat Lady Aw! Hello Kitty (&Cat Lady!)
My cat lived to 24.
@Cat Lady My friend had a cat who died at the age of 30 - hit by a car while out hunting!
8:40 YOU FORGOT GUINEA PIGS in the Fluffball category, by the way! I got two very sweet natured girl piggies who make my life very happy!
Have you heard the proverb: "Dogs want a friend while cats want a servant"
Dogs come when you call them.
Cats take a message & get back to you! (That's my fav. 😄)
@@cinne2135 I've always heard that too. Yet...both of my cats will come running when I call their name.
@@margietucker1719 Ha, same here, our two tabby cats respond and even talk back. I think they learned it from out Husky.
All we need to do to get my girlfriend's cat to come to us is offer her some human food and she'll be all over us
"A friend to all is a friend to none."
Dogs befriend everyone, they have no true loyalty.
“You’ve also been running off with all the toilet rolls so you are part of the problem”. LMAO
Our cats and dogs are actually very friendly to eachother they offten cuddle together
Also we have 3 cats
Two dogs
A rabbit and 2 snakes
Fred, was the best cat ever, he was like a big gray baby. So loving.
If I rubbed my cat's fur back and forth like he's doing, she'd sink her teeth into my hand. One direction only, please.
I watched that anxiously
That's the only way my cat likes it. One direction petting makes him get up and find someone who'll pet him the other way. 😂
Yeah my cat would get the shivers and give me a dirty look
Correct.
Always rub in the direction their hair (fur) falls naturally.
Love how when you are trying to video cats they ignore you until you are busy doing something else then they'll want you to pay attention to them
8:42
We can still see you, you handsome little man though it's just a corner of your furry back.
the technical term for “fluff balls” is pocket pets 😂
Amanda Speaks we call it playing “pocket pool” 😄
Small and furries
Overwhelmingly, they're rodents (except for rabbits).
IceNixie0102 Rabbits are also rodents.
@@JeanieD no longer. (1912) they are Lagomorpha. they have an extra pair of incisors. different skeletal structure and they digest differently.. we know more now.
Kitty!! Awww, they're so cute!
My neighbors have 4 rescue quarter horses on 3 acres of pasture. We are 15 minutes from downtown Richmond,Virginia.
We had all kinds of pets growing up! Dogs, cats, birds, fish, pigmey hedgehogs, chinchillas, rabbits, Pac Man toads, salamanders, African water frogs, gerbils, rats, a pot belly pig and of course our now 27 year old blue tongued skink which is a lizard ☺️!
I loved your cat’s tail in your face, and your response to it. It was brilliant!
Your cat getting in the way is the most beautiful thing I've seen today. Other than my dog of course.
I have guinea pigs and used to breed and show purebreds. They're adorable little "fluffballs".
I have two guinea pigs, and I have loved those little "furballs" for years. I have your country of origin to thank for popularizing the little pets :)
I love how your cat was around at the beginning of the video when you were talking about
other animals but when you mentioned cats, he was gone.
As a fellow Brit who has lived in the United States for many years one thing I have noticed is that a lot of rural households with dogs in the U.S. will keep the dogs outside compared to mostly indoor dogs in the U.K.
Awe looks like someone went to the vet. Cats like her are very lovable cats. Russian blue are very affectionate and she must have some in her.
Omgsh the kitty!!! You and your kitty are precious! I hope you’re doing well during this pandemic!!
Loved the intro with Kafka taking credit for self-isolating and taking all the toilet paper before it was cool 😎
