His commercialism puts him in that spot based on the nba has a poster boy that they generate millions if not billions of dollars on and this guy happens to be micheal jordan. Not taking anything away from his game but thats the truth. Its like when the heat got destroyed by the spurs in thr finals, the very next day all you heard was lebron this, lebron that, wheres lebron going, lebron, lebron lebron. atAnd thats there poster boy now and they generate tons of money off of him to. Its sad but this is where professional sports in America has gone.
Payton was awesome and one of my favorite players, at the time he played I hated him and Kemp, but thats because they had damn good teams.....and im a Jazz fan. Epic battles loved watching Stockton and Payton battle and Kemp v Malone. Great hoops
Gary summed it up best. Stocktan would shoot like 7/11 field goals, which right there is 14 points. Maybe one is a three, bringing us to 15. Lets say he goes 6/6 in free throws (Stocktan rarely missed), bringing us to 21. He would then have 9-15 assists as well. Lowballing that just two pointers, there's 18 points off assists, bringing us 39 points that he directly contributed. And lets not forget that because Stocktan is one of the greatest passers of all time, there was a lot of +1's as well. Not to mention that Stocktan was an extremely physical defender, the kind of guy who would use every single trick or do everything is the game he could to beat you. So not only did Stocktan often put up numbers on GP, but like GP said, they would play anywhere from 6-11 times a year. We all know that Jordan is one of, if the greatest player ever, but like Gary said, it's his opinion.
Doncic has a chance. Because he has great nunber since 20 years old. He is great case of player with 20 rmyear old so has the numbers and alot of time.
Oakland's own Gary Payton, I'm glad he admitted that Stockton was harder to guard than Jordan because people would be afraid to admit it, But when you from oakland you ain't scared! 💯💯 #TownBizness
Although I'm a John Stockton fan Gary Payton is one of best trash talker in the games, but watching him on his acceptance speach, he is also one of the most humblest man on this planet
Him and MJ could've been the most feared backcourt in history. Both Defensive Players of the Year, both champions, both all-stars, both agile. Too bad it never happened.
I love gp. Such an amazing talent, and overall just a good person. I love watching him, whether that's when he talks or back when he played. Great iq. I truly can't get enough of him
Payton is the most gracious best dude ever. I love his stockton tributes. Makes me rate him second best point guard ever. But kidd, nash, magic, Isaiah rate stock too. It's Payton's night, he's the best.
@@darrylharris9097 Magic is not pure point guard. And Curry no, he is a f great shooter. Not Stockton level game passer etc to compete as point guard. He is great great shooter but we talk point guard game.
Bon Vivant also he never won a title, never maximized on his talent, didn't even really play well in what should have been his prime, he posted up too low on the block to be a consistent scorer in the post, and was a huge cocaine addict.
I recall a game where Payton suffered what was called a serious ankle injury. The immediate forecast was he would be out for some time. He started and played the next game. Another night the Sonics were well down in the 4th quarter and a timeout was called. GP was screaming into the huddle "We can win this game". They did. One of the toughest and toughest minded players ever IMO.
bird after his back was injured in 88 was never the same again even though he retired in 92 officially come on man you know what I mean .. their PRIME.
Yep, most players will say Larry was the greatest trash talker of all time. funny how the camera found Larry as soon as GP said that... Larry would trash talk the opposing teams coach...
THe greatest trash talker of all time is determined by how great of a player you were on the court. So Bird is the greatest. Miller and Gary is a toss up.
Gary is right .....Stockton was one helluva tough guy to deal with .... I don't think anyone will argue that Stockton is better than Jordan.... But the Sonics and Utah battled a lot back in the day and Gary had to face Stockton multiple times during the season and in the playoffs .... Utah was tough, and Stockton was a big reason why, the guy was Mr consistency in his career .... You can't ask for a better point guard than Stockton ....he's the man
funkyflights also, Stockton was harder to prepare for as a defender. When Michael was going downhill, you were prepared for the drive and knew what he was likely to do. With Stockton you couldn't prepare because he was going to pass or suddenly shoot. no way did GP say Stockton was better, just harder for him to guard haha
Congratulations Gary Payton. You are one of my favorite players of all time!! Much love and respect!! Chicago Bulls nation for life!!! Chicago Cubs nation for life!!!
Gary you deserved it Congrats, wish the Sonics were still in Seattle sad the NBA stole them from us. I was a big fan watched and attended a lot of those games in KeyArena in the 90's and early 2000's and even some in the Tacoma Dome too when they were remodeling KeyArena and Gary was a man about town remember seeing him a few times around the Queen Anne area at Buca Di Beppo and seeing the man driving in his Bentley too right in front of the old Tower Records in Queen Anne what a throwback since it's all gone now but I still have the memories of Gary Payton in my city, our city.
The way he spoke about his “ex” wife really says even more. Athletes have a whole tribe at home being raised mostly by their wives. As a mother who had the help of my kid’s father, I give them mad respect. It’s not easy.
@@bettywatkins28 Im totally agree with your statement adding that I felt a bit of guilt on his words, like he regrets losing a great woman.. my comment was more related to in court basketball as they were rivals and compete against each other.. I was not there to see his life outside the court, but definitely she deserves all the credit and it looks like he is aware of that.
I honor The Glove a lot. I liked, no I loved him as a player. As said before he probably was the most complete point guard there has been to date, he could do it all, both physically and verbally. He was the guy who forced Michael Jordan to have his worst finals stats of his career. Those aren't small feats. Although I dislike The Glove for one thing and that thing is the grudge he still has against Jordan. It's clear The Glove still 'hates' Jordan because of those 96 finals and 'stealing' that ring from him GP thinks he should have gotten back then. The Glove is of course entitled to have his opinnion that Stockton was harder to guard than Jordan but I still think there's that grudge behind that opinnion more than anything else. Anyways The Glove has more than earned his place in the HOF and he still is one of my favourites of all time. I try to have him in 2K every single year if possible, and not just in my collection but as the starting PG of my main lineup. That's how much I honor him.
Jeez.. Have you watched the whole series? MJ was still scoring at him. It was the whole team effort. When MJ scored 27 the rest of the players scored less than 25! It was a low scoring ballgame as it's won on defense... 🤦♂️
These guys deserved a championship just like Miller, Barkley, Malone, Ewing etc...more than those bench players who did not contribute or made a big impact, just been in a great team in the right time!!!!

Its like when the heat got destroyed by the spurs in thr finals, the very next day all you heard was lebron this, lebron that, wheres lebron going, lebron, lebron lebron. atAnd thats there poster boy now and they generate tons of money off of him to. Its sad but this is where professional sports in America has gone.
pnutbutrncrackers his reasoning was: he had a boxscore of 20-15-4...o_O
Payton was awesome and one of my favorite players, at the time he played I hated him and Kemp, but thats because they had damn good teams.....and im a Jazz fan. Epic battles loved watching Stockton and Payton battle and Kemp v Malone. Great hoops
Gary, John and George. A true legends of NBA!
Also, points off of turnovers, hence the '4 steals' reference.

Agree 😆John Stockton!
WHO TF IS STOCKTAN??
No one:
Absolutely no one:
This dude: STOCKTAN
Berdino Latif lol
You know you e lived your life well when you bring your competition to the stage, class
one of the most underrated players ever
john stockton was so great his assists total may never be broken
Doncic has a chance. Because he has great nunber since 20 years old. He is great case of player with 20 rmyear old so has the numbers and alot of time.
@@innosanto Not even CP3 wasn't able to do it. Luka never will
I dislike you a little less after this speech GP..not that you care but I enjoyed this moment and congrats!
My all time favorite Seattle sports star. Much love for the glove. He also did a lot in the communities of Seattle and Oakland.
I love it..... He's such a class act...He has always been a very intelligence young man. On the court and off. Very good....
Oakland's own Gary Payton, I'm glad he admitted that Stockton was harder to guard than Jordan because people would be afraid to admit it, But when you from oakland you ain't scared! 💯💯 #TownBizness
I'm from L.A. and I say Magic is the greatest point guard. Damnit!
Gary is a beast in 2k
I was killing with mac10 and the Supes on nba live95 on supernintendo!
I loved using the glove in 2K19 MyTeam
Lame
John stockton Dame what a great pg
Bird at 10:51 was like alright kid this is your day. But I will always be the fucking best.
The Glove and The Rain Man was fun to watch.
Although I'm a John Stockton fan Gary Payton is one of best trash talker in the games, but watching him on his acceptance speach, he is also one of the most humblest man on this planet
Gary Payton always has that look that says “I’m gonna roast you”
When Larry bird is sitting there smirking 😏 and thinking I’m the greatest trash talker of all time !
Payton did not really play the same time as Bird.
Yeah LB was the greatest trash talker, he could back it up with the championships
STFU
my all time favorite player.
My
1a
Him and MJ could've been the most feared backcourt in history. Both Defensive Players of the Year, both champions, both all-stars, both agile. Too bad it never happened.
And both would destroy ur mind with all the trash talking..hahaha
@@christianbrianenad7032 they’d probably trash talk each other and separate 😂
I think Jordan is cool with having a Scottie Pippen lol
@@nbafinest2775 maybe not these days.
He's the most consistent basketball player in the point guard position. It's very heartbreaking to see it died out in today's nba game.
Stockton was more consistent 😅
I love gp. Such an amazing talent, and overall just a good person. I love watching him, whether that's when he talks or back when he played. Great iq. I truly can't get enough of him
The “GLOVE” tha man!!
90s were a great era, great hall of famers, great great players 🙌
Payton is the most gracious best dude ever. I love his stockton tributes. Makes me rate him second best point guard ever. But kidd, nash, magic, Isaiah rate stock too. It's Payton's night, he's the best.
I understand the acclaim he gets as a point. However, he was really a combo in his prime. You could count on him getting you 19-23 ppg in that span.
Stockton is the best point guard ever. Yes ever.
No Magic is...
Looool
I agree
Magic Johnson or Stephen Curry
@@darrylharris9097 Magic is not pure point guard. And Curry no, he is a f great shooter. Not Stockton level game passer etc to compete as point guard. He is great great shooter but we talk point guard game.
Ice and Stockton...that's 2 contrasting styles for sure
the only reason Shawn Kemp is not on hall of fame is because he dunked on so many people and that's very disrespectful.
Bon Vivant also he never won a title, never maximized on his talent, didn't even really play well in what should have been his prime, he posted up too low on the block to be a consistent scorer in the post, and was a huge cocaine addict.
Cocaine is well nice tho
He has been to the finals and showed up while gp got cooked by the G.O.A.T., and gp coat tail a ring with Shaq and the Flash.
You are so funny
Shawn Kemp another Hoosier in the house. Yeah that's right
I recall a game where Payton suffered what was called a serious ankle injury. The immediate forecast was he would be out for some time.
He started and played the next game. Another night the Sonics were well down in the 4th quarter and a timeout was called. GP was screaming into the huddle "We can win this game".
They did. One of the toughest and toughest minded players ever IMO.
"Yeah I had a George Foreman moment!" Damn even when giving a speech he's talking trash to people! LEGEND!
and now his son is an NBA champ
I like how Gary gave the Bay Area a shoutout
miss the glove. tremendous defensive skills, big personality.
Favorite Player growing up! GP All day! #20
Hella straight outta Oakland!!
Cess M ? Tf?
Well John S. was stuff.... thanks family mom&dad etc.
2023 and Payton will still say the same about Stockton! Love to see the purest pg get his flowers. Salute to GP for that.
GP and Lenny Wilkens are the two greatest Sonics of all time!
And Johnson too.
Thank you for the memories and the love for the sport.
Larry Bird at 10:51 like son you aint the greatest trash talker I am .. if only they played in the same era bird woulda shown em !
Dirk Singh umm, they did, payton was drafted 89,
bird after his back was injured in 88 was never the same again even though he retired in 92 officially come on man you know what I mean .. their PRIME.
+ALEX Galarza Payton was drafted in 90 but I get your point
Yep, most players will say Larry was the greatest trash talker of all time. funny how the camera found Larry as soon as GP said that... Larry would trash talk the opposing teams coach...
THe greatest trash talker of all time is determined by how great of a player you were on the court. So Bird is the greatest. Miller and Gary is a toss up.
GP The Glove! Great player. Props to him for recognizing Ice Man and Stockton for their greatness.
Congrats Gary ! You deserved it.
Stock and GP had many epic battles. Much respect!
10:43 and 10:52 Larry Bird was probably thinking , 'I was the best trash talker before you even came in the league Gary'
Gary would slap the shit out of you and Bird
As a Utah Jazz fan I say with confidence that Gary Payton is the greatest defensive guard of all time.
You can't ask for a better point guard than Stockton ....he's the man
+funkyflights
Finally, someone who gets it.
funkyflights also, Stockton was harder to prepare for as a defender. When Michael was going downhill, you were prepared for the drive and knew what he was likely to do. With Stockton you couldn't prepare because he was going to pass or suddenly shoot. no way did GP say Stockton was better, just harder for him to guard haha
This man has class. Great sponsors, too.
My favorite pointguard of all time, sad that Kemp wasn't there...
Congratulations Gary Payton. You are one of my favorite players of all time!! Much love and respect!! Chicago Bulls nation for life!!! Chicago Cubs nation for life!!!
Hows those Bears bro?
the glove isn't jealous of mj
Him and Mj are on the top of my list of basketball heroes!
watching gary speaking that way about stockton says a lot, he was a hell of a player, mad respect.
Gary Payton was one of the greats. An honest, hardworking player that got the job done.
I still to this day miss my pair of gloves I had back in 97. GP was the man
I honor The Glove a lot.
Zamppa86, GP couldn't stop Stockton from doing whatever he wanted was the whole point. How hard is that to understand? That how he feels.
Thx for all the lobs you threw at the Reign Man! Glove #20 HOF!
good times watching GP and Kemp in their prime.
He and Mo Cheeks are the best defensive point guards I've ever witnessed. If they drew the assignment to guard you, it was gonna be a long night!!!!
