I need help.. I can do drop spins but I keep rolling up the silk and I tried pinching it. My instructors keep saying to pinch the silk but it's not working for me..
Ok this might sound silly, but try spinning right in front of a wall. It's a trick I usually use to fix the angle of the flag when people are pitching their pole forward or back, but sometimes it will also keep you from wrapping your knuckles around your pole and rolling up the flag if the pinch technique doesn't work. It's difficult to analyze your specific problem when I don't actually get to physically see what it is you are doing, but that's a common issue with students. Hopefully it helps!
I have this same problem! And I don’t understand how the flag gets twisted on drop spins if it’s just going down and up? I also tried pinching and gripping and trying to keep it straight still doesn’t work ):
Try watching your knuckles. What’s happening is your knuckles are rotating the pole as you spin. If you can keep your hands, wrists, and forearms in alignment your knuckles won’t rotate and your flag shouldn’t roll.
Do you have any suggestions on how to teach my guard how to count? I teach them the routine with the counts but they don't seem to fully grasp it. Any tips?
+Lexi Tornatore I don't just make them count the routine, I make them count everything out loud. They count the warm-ups, they count the dances, they even count when we are standing there doing drop spins. It's easier once you have some veteran members who count religiously, but it can be difficult to get the whole guard to start. I would set them up in a block to do 50 drop spins and tell them to count out loud. If you don't mind being the bad guy you can stop them and start over as soon as you see someone not counting. I hate being the bad guy personally, so I let them get to 50 and if everyone doesn't freeze right on 50 make them start over (then they get mad at one another and themselves and not me!). Once they have learned all of their choreography I have them sit in a circle and count to the music without spinning. It helps a lot with that too. Good luck!
I was in color guard a few years ago, planning to join again when I go to college next fall. With that said. Something I was constantly told I had a problem with was "Chicken legs", were my arms would kind of move up and down. The way I thought I fixed this, was just doing drop spins out as far as I could in front of me. I'm seeing this may not be the case. It's supposed to be kind of in the "middle" of the area you can extend your arms. With all the back story. If I find myself moving my arms too much while doing drop spins. Are there any suggestions you can provide that can help me correct this? When I start practicing (around Thanksgiving, which is when I'll have my equipment), I will be making videos as well, and getting my old color guard buddies to help improve my technique.
+Victoria Morgan Definitely! One thing you might do is spin up against a wall. That will correct any plane issues you might have first of all and cause you to HAVE to spin in the right spot on your body. Then, I would say take something like a tennis shoe and put one on either side of your body at the bottom of your rib cage. Hold them there with your elbows while you do the spins and that should help you train your muscles to not move your arms up and down. Good luck!!
+Aydan I get this question ALL THE TIME. I'm going to go ahead and make a video specifically about this... Make sure you have subscribed so you will be notified when it posts!
Hi there. I am trying out for colorguard but I keep rolling my wrists. People have told me what to do but I keep forgetting or just not getting it.. Could you help me?
Have you watched this video yet?? It is very helpful with what you are talking about!! Stop your flag from rolling up! - How to color guard ruclips.net/video/SGM9aOSxg70/видео.html Good luck with your audition!!
When you do them do you watch silk of the person in front of you or the pole? The silk will make you feel like you are in time with them when you really aren't, but if you watch the pole and make your pole match theirs, it should work really well!
helloktful Find the seam of the flag and try to place your thumb on it every single time you grab the pole. Your wrists are wrapping around the pole as you rotate it, and finding that seam will help you to feel the motion of what it's like to keep your wrists straight. I hope that helps!
Although I never did colorguard i might start working with the high school colorguard. Thanks to your videos i have an idea of what to do with basics!
So happy we could help!! Let us know if you have any questions!
@@SpintronixGuard thank you. Oh im gonna have a ton! Thank yoi for your response and thank you a mill much times for you videos!
