Oppenheimer - Can You Hear The Music [Soundtrack Re-creation]

- "Can You Hear The Music" originally composed by Ludwig Göransson.
Aural transcription and arrangement for virtual instruments by Timothy Richards.
As a sucker for exponential rhythms I've been looking for an excuse to try programming some. This also served as a good reason to try out some newly acquired synth samples & plug-in's as well.
I didn't fancy working out the tempos for each individual modulation, so instead opted to use one fixed tempo and squash each phrase down accordingly.
Though tedious, slotting each progressively smaller segment together bit by bit proved quite satisfying.
Good fun, eh?
Enjoy!

Cinematic horn is %100 accurate, i love it.
Classic French Horn.
Not quite. Its about 85% there. Missing that raspyness.
@@AGILISFPV They obviously had to mix it that way in post to blend in with the entire composition, otherwise the sound would be too overwhelming.
what horn is it
@@willtheham1 French horn
From Wikipedia: "In the piece "Can You Hear the Music", he employed 21 tempo changes-a large feat for a live orchestra. Originally, Göransson called it "unplayable" and planned to record the song bar-by-bar, but his wife encouraged him to record the song in one take. After much experimentation, the music team achieved this by playing a click into the musicians' headphones before every tempo change. This piece alone took three days to record."
21 tempo changes is fucking ridiculous. And to do this abruptly in such a way that it's done seamlessly... the pros are fucking incredible. Also props to the guy who did this by ear... incredibly talented humans

The important things isn't can you read music, it's can you hear it. Can you hear the music, Robert?
Timothy Richards is a name the world will never forget
Fr
Yes
Right up there with Squilliam Fancyson
This version sounds actually closest to the original one, it's more clean: ruclips.net/video/jJd61__-p6Y/видео.html&si=c0_KXa2V0XkWKl6N
Who?
did you transpose this by ear? if so, very very impressive.
Yep! All my transcriptions are by ear as I can't read music so thats just what I'm used to/most comfortable with.
@@timothyjamesrichards that’s incredible. That’s honestly more difficult than reading music to be honest!!
@@noelle7786 yeah
@@timothyjamesrichards this mf can literally hear the music 😂
@@manwhoasked5942 good one
Truly a masterpiece, especially for ones who makes music
Damn I can't even use the word music to describe what I do after that
this is THE most impressive recreation I have ever seen, absolute goosebumps
No youtube video could capture the bass and all the deep emotionally touching feelings i got by listening to this in imax except this, obviously this video didn't have the thumping feeling to the real thing in imax but this was almost just as good and the best thing my ears could experience till now
That thumping feeling was one of the best moments of my life!

First time I'm hearing something sounding Cosmic and Heavenly here! And what an absolute surprise, it's not played by real instruments! Usually, 99.99999999% of these computer generated stuff play such bad music, like you know full well it's not real instruments. But I suppose if you're good at creating good music, then it doesn't matter whether or not you play real or computer instruments
This is of course impressive and this person has real talent. But there is no substitute for a real instrument
@@DaM.1No I totally agree with you, any music is good sounding if you're good at creating it but yeah real instruments are better sounding in my opinion
High-quality VSTs help tremendously, but yeah there's no substitute for having such a naturally strong sense of pitch, harmony, and rhythm.
You don't know how much of these film scores are actually done in some dude's room lmao
Honestly, this is my first time commenting and I feel that you’ve captured the essence and the feeling people get from hearing this piece alone. Knowing you did it by ear makes it even more impressive, and you used your gift of talent to making such a wonderful recreation. We all feel you deserve to go to a higher ground with this kind of talent, and you have a lot of potential to do so much with it alone. I literally feel like I’m levitating and that this whole piece sounds like a whole Orchestra. Ludwig’s masterpiece spread like a chain reaction, causing talented people like you to share it on the internet. You’re wonderful, this whole thing was and still is incredible. You’ve nailed it, Timothy. Props to you. I hope you’ll grow more and that your talent gets recognized more. These comments are proof of you being recognized for what you really are. You can definitely hear the music and produce wonders with it. Keep doing what you’re doing :)
This is an atomic bomb explosion level of glazing, wow
@@danceyrselfkleen pffft. why did that make me chuckle

It's crazy how much this song sounds like something Hans Zimmer would make, I think the composer took heavy inspiration from him
Hans was the one who gave Nolan the recommendation to use Ludwig, since he was busy with Dune.
Learn something new every day! Thanks for the insight!@@TheLazyGamers
@@TheLazyGamers dune 2?
@@youknowme1475 This was back with Tenet actually, I believe Hans is doing Dune Part 2 as well, which is why Nolan decided on using Ludwig again.
There isn't a film composer alive who isn't affected by Hans Zimmer's work.
He's done it again folks...❤
The amount of talent you have is out of this world. Absolutely incredible my friend!
the biggest shame is that i can't hear it through a cinema set up again, it still gives me goose bumps
really well done here!
First 3 times I heard this, got me teary eyed with goosebumps. On the second listen I was balling out. Testament to brilliant music. Thank you for this ‘recreation’.
Well you most certainly can hear the music. This is incredible
When the red parts trigger all those majestic and bonechilling moments...
Just a beautiful and perfect rendition and even more impressive that this was just done "by ear".
Timothy Richards, You're Truly "THE ONE" in this ocean.
This alone is art, but the fact that Goransson could even come up with this incredibly intricate idea in his head just shows his true genius.
As a musician who also is gearing more towards the Cinematic side of things, this is a MASTERCLASS!!! I would actually love to see a breakdown of this track
This. This is perfect. Every note, octave, tempo and even synth setting is perfect. This is the type of content I love, this should have many more views considering what this is. An incredibly massive “hats off” and standing ovation to you sir👏👏
This is miindblowingly impressive and the fact that you tranpose this by ear is beyond levels of amazing
This song only have 1 problem, it’s too short!
Beautiful work man, hope you manage to make a longer version for us to enjoy
this is so incredible, and reading you did this off just listening to the original is just... wow man.. amazing amazing work.. cant wait to see what you do next
I don't comment much on RUclips but this is something special. At first, I thought you may have done a composers equivalent to a cover. I'm genuinely amazed that you arranged the whole thing aurally.
ABSOLUTE MADLAD, ABSOLUTE MADLAD. Been Listening to it for days now and this is by far the best recreation. The production, the layering, the mix-master, everything is on point. Boii, you're a genius.
I have no idea how this one piece can be this good. It fits incredibly within the tone of the movie, stands on its own, collides with itself, collapses inward over and over in its unyielding acceleration, delights, but yet almost enrages the senses. This piece is massively inspiring and captivated me the instant I heard it in the theatre. I'm so excited to see how it's done the same to so many others.
Music that gives goosebumps. Impressive. Good work Timothy Richards.
This will be picked up by the algorithm, my friend. This is a masterpiece 👏👏
It was, I'm stunned. And then I read the comments and learned it's done by ear..... I have no words
This is peace of art 🎨
I need this as my alarm clock.
Also - incredible transposing 🤯👏👏👏
fromsoft ost recreations and now this? actually goated
I can't wrap my head around how you did this. This is absolutely phenomenal and really highlights how incredibly complex and incredible the original track is.
I can’t even imagine how many times bro had to listen to the song to be able to pick up and recreate every detail
If this song can't portray the madness going inside Oppenheimer's mind, I don't know what can....
I compared it with the actual piece by playing them both simultaneously, NOT A SINGLE DIFFERENCE IN ANY NOTE, IM THOROUGHLY IMPRESSED. I'll honor your great deed by limiting my mere words which cannot express the beauty of your work 🙏🙏
I thought this was the actual soundtrack audio playing in the background for a good half of the video, great job.
Those red parts bruh I'm in love with that
this is truly incredible, great work man!
Phenomenal! Respect for the dedication and time effort!
Is this copyrighted lol can I use it in a video??? This is amazing.
no way he just ignored this lmao
hello wunba
I mean if it’s been up for three months and hasn’t been copyrighted… maybe if you make sure to link the original music somewhere to prove its not just the original soundtrack, cause it’s technically a cover. Just a REALLY good one lol.
Wunba casually getting ignored...
hello there
This is by far the BEST recreation I've run into across RUclips!! Absolutely fantastic work.
This is absolutely insane dude. Amazing job!
Woooow, I can't describe how amazing this piece of art
this is so good.. and it hits the spot. Definitely sent some goosebumps to me. Amazing recreation :)
Insane! Well done! What a masterpiece. Ist just impressive to visualise all those audible components!
Mindblowing! Haven't heard such an accurate re-creation! Way to go.
This is absolutely outstanding! And the fact that you did it by ear as well, incredible, incredible job! I would honestly love to hear more of the music from Oppenheimer if possible, because your work is simply fantastic!
I cant stress enough how good and accurate this is, very well done sir.
Genuinely so impressed with this. Very talented!
My heart is pounding, I am in shock.
This is amazing work. I loved how this looked visually like a wave whose frequency was increasing as the song went...❤
Absolutely stunning work, the soundscape is incredibly accurate and consistent with the original, down to the instruments and everything. There is barely any difference between your version and the OST, which is likely just down to the use of live instruments. Hats off to you.
This is just out of this world! Very very impressive 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This is unbelievably impressive, but I can't image how someone can even come up with this composition in the first place. You look at a blank piece of paper and then end up with this....
ITS JUST BANGER AFTER BANGER WITH THIS DUDE! JEEEEESUS BABY, LETS GO! 🥵😎😍
Damn bro! You absolutely smashed it! ❤ your earned my sub!
SO RIDICULOUS BRO!! Fantastic Job with this remake, Inspiring...
Holy hell this is spot on. Gives the chills and everything. Great job!
Absolutely stunning!
I actually leapt in my chair twice just now - once when I saw you had uploaded, again when I read the video title. I would've been content with another Fromsoft track but this was unexpected and INCREDIBLE! You arranging this track is like 2 of my favourite things combining!
Absolutely beautiful arrangement!! This video really shows you have an amazing ear for transcription and your range is insane!
Is there a platform I can support you on? I would love to show my appreciation for your work, but I can't see any links in your description. If you don't have one, I think you should definitely consider getting a Ko-Fi page or even a Patreon - I for one would be absolutely keen for it!
Thank you! Thats very kind but just watching/listening massively helps me at the moment. I'll probably make something like a Ko-Fi in the future once I've put out some more stuff.
Now I'm just imagining you trampolining in your chair in shock caught in a vicious cycle
Amazing, love the way you’ve adjusted the mix of the instruments and added your own touch. Really beautiful mock-up and I judge a piece of music by seeing if it can move me or give me goosebumps, you nailed that here imo. Awesome work!
Man, you have perfect hearing and skill! It's excellent
This makes me stop doing music production but motivates me to do it more at the same time.
this is absolute perfection.
Absolutely beautiful. You're talented bro!
This is very very impressive.
This is incredible. Deserves so much more views

It took ten years for another "interstellar" level theme. great job on this
If Oppenheimer doesn't win best score, I will never believe in Academy🎉Awards anymore.

This is absolutely incredible. I've been making music for a couple years now. I can't even imagine the amount of work you put in this project. The fact that you did it all by ear as well is incredible. Beautiful remake.
Bravo! Great work. I've been listening to Ludwig Goransson's version since it came out and this is definitely on point. Congratulations.

Woah 🤯 that's so accurate
You, truly, can hear the music. Well done, this is exceptional. I especially love the cinematic horn effect.
The feelings this song gives are indescribable. It's almost paralyzing with how beautiful it is.
Breathtaking. Just listen to that smooth glissando at 1:04. Phenomenal work.
This gave me different goosebumps Man ❤ I was listening to movie one on repeat. Now I am gonna listen to it on repeat
Aboslutely a great work, I love it!
Much respect to you brother. Never heard something that is 100% accurate to original but then there is your arrangements!! Respect.
man this is incredible. The comparison with the original is so close that would make me seriously doubt you got the original stems and just did a different mix. Props to you my guy, this is outstanding work.
cant get enough !!!
i wish Goran the composer runs in "your" version and gives you 11 of 10 for your accomplishment. If i was him i would ask u to come visit !! 😊
Oh God this is amazing!
I like how the high notes form the Greek letter lambda, which represents the nuclear decay rate. And the increasing pace apparently symbolizes the acceleration of the chain reaction. In fact, this score is a chain reaction.
Wow, such an incredible feat and power you have to create this all by ear, truly an impressive trait you got bro
how can this be so perfect
Wow great cover!!😮
great work! each line is so clear when layed out this way
