Classic Alinskyite tactics, accuse the your enemy of what you are doing.
This video harms more than helps. The default response in political discussion online is always “this user doesn’t share the same worldview as me therefor they are a bot”.
This goes for every side and every aspect of the political spectrum.
For myself this is the largest deterrent to expressing any political idea online because no matter who you side with (and especially if you side outside of mainstream 2 party thought in America) you will be called a fake account, “not a real person”, trying to spread misinformation by bringing up view points that don’t align with someone, even if they are backed by institutions and studies.
It’s a very Orwellian concept that all opposition to ones political ideas are fake, bots, or misinformation. It is far more likely that someone disagrees with you than some advanced intricate misinformation campaign being behind these ideas.
I feel that, it doesn't help that you occasionally do run into bots or trolls.
What makes it even worse, is that due to RUclips algorithm, almost every video on the topic of politics is a good damn eco chamber. Discussion is dead.
I think the best way is to become a little more of an "expert" on the subject by studying for yourself it so you know better what is true or false.
But still it's a good idea to think that everyone, be it Quo, Green, you or me could be trying to misinform and manipulate you for their own advantage. We should be like "here is the reasoning; they *could* (not are) be lying, so could I. If you don't believe me, my reasoning, make your own, think by yourself, study it yourself, search whatever information you can think of. Then decide who is lying."
Keep in mind that just because someone disagrees with you, doesnt mean they are a troll. They could very well be right, and you could just be brainwashed and closed minded.
A bit counter intuitive, I mean rather then focus on if the person making the claims has something to gain by twisting the narrative around someone you could just research the claim yourself. I mean establishing motive doesn't do anything but hard stats and concrete evidence disproves the claim and damages the reputation of the person making the claim.
Youd be suprised how little facts affect people. There have been several studies showing that if you have facts that what they believe is wrong, it very rarely works to convince then
This is assuming people aren’t lazy enough to seek out the truth themselves
@@victoriah4278 Yeah, I'm having a discussion with a guy who thinks that races actually exist and whatever scientific article or study I gave him, showing that race is nothing but a social construct, or how often I explained to him that other countries like mine don't even use the concept, he just denied it. He just gave me a link to a RUclips video, apparently talking about why "races" are not equal, but I didn't click on it because I told him to send me the scientific sources that the video _surely_ used instead...
How is it even possible to convince people?
well, knowing why people lie is actually a really good think to understand when looking for sources.
First, this video is more about how to deal with a disinformation campaign than trolls. "Troll" is NOT synonymous with "disinformation spreader."
Second, I don't have the resources to create my own dis-disinformation campaign. Instead, I fight trolls simply by pointing out (and fully explaining) every fallacy that they use in their posts. I do not engage directly with the troll. I never engage with the argument that they are making. That is pointless, and a waste of time. I use their post as an example, as if it is some poor, diseased individual that I have brought up on the stage of a Victorian era surgical theater and point out each of its flaws for all the world to see.
Quite often, the troll will simply delete their post.
I some what agree but I do engage with a troll. when arguing in front of a crowd or over the internet it's not about winning the argument it's about pointing out the misinformation and lack of astute knowledge on the subject your trying to sway the people in these arguments your not trying to beat the troll.
pff. this comment is a bit overdramatic, yes? it's okay to handle things differently, but you seem rather ,, upset ,, that this video didn't explain methods like YOU intended.
In my opinion, the misleading title and not-so-discrete political undertone of this video did more bad than good. I came to find an unbiased video on how to outsmart an internet troll (which we all know is the general use of the term 'troll') only to be misled by this adulterated content. Quite disappointing.
@@krisppynugget i agree that this video took an unnecessarily political turn, but i find that it's better to stop watching if it's not what you wanted, which may be the most reasonable decision. the comment i replied to came off as rude, which is the reason i bothered commenting. i don't think it's right to leave a hate comment merely because a video isn't what was expected. ultimately, it's their channel and their opinion when it comes to handling a cyber issue.
