I met Terry Wetley, Geezer's tech, a year or so ago, at a Black Sabbath fan fest in NY the night before a show at MSG. We hit it off and talked gear - He told me that the pedal is a line driver, intended to only be used when Geezer would use a cable for whatever reason (the long cable run would weaken the signal). The Boss LS-2 was used to take the wah pedal out of the chain, as the long cable runs - you guessed it - weakened the signal. The wah only worked when Terry hit the Ls-2.
I play a 1980 BC Rich Eagle Deluxe because of Geezer (and Ron Holzner from Trouble, though he played a mockingbird). Seriously, vintage BC Rich are absolute treasures.
Awesome job, dude, I'm happy that I found this channel. The time put into researching this stuff is insane but I'm really impressed, so kudos to you on that. Props to you from Canada, and I'm looking forward to season two. Peace
Very nice job young man. The ammount of time and effort you put into researching these musicians gear is phenomenal. It just goes to show that yes, there are plenty of individuals that find this kind of information very interesting to say the least. Thanks for your effort.
Thank you Fender Jay, nice to hear from you again. I certainly appreciate your kind feedback and very glad I'm not the only one who enjoys digging through the weeds of musical equipment!
Someone should take the circuitry from those two Tycobrahes, and combine them into a single Siamese Twin monstrosity pedal, and it should be called, "The Loc-Nar", with a glow in the dark graphic of the evil green orb on the front. Well, at least I think so, as every time I hear E5150 and The Mob Rules, it's its scene in the movie Heavy Metal that I think of. I think Geezer also used them on The Dark, the intro to Zero the Hero on Born Again, the "Purple Sabbath" album...
Just one last bit on Geezers effects. He also used the wah pedal on the Mob Rules album and in concert for songs off the album. When they were playing with Dio (just before his untimely death) they played stuff off that album live. You can see him playing teh wah on the DVD of "Heaven and Hell - Live at Radio City Music Hall 2007" (which, due to a great bit of luck, I was in attendance that night). Seen Geezer play many times. Still one of my favorites. Dio or Ozzy, both eras were Geezer tour-de-force's.
That mic on the cabs was a Heil PR40, based on the color, end-address capsule, and mount. The Audio Technical is side-address, meaning that it cannot be the mic in that photo.
Another excellent video love it live to know what geezer always played in the late 80s to the 90s up to now thank you so much so much fun to watch and learn looking forward towards your next video and people who watch this videos should really not go too crazy and go on with their lives thank you
Geezer played the Vigier Passion during the Dehumanizer and Cross Purposes albums and tours. He also said he hated the BC Rich Iron bird bass because it was very unconfortable to play
Great research on the bass rigs! Will we see you do a John Entwistle rig rundown? I believe you to be the best person to run through The Ox's rig changes. (Though I'm sure it's gonna be a tough one going through them)
The picture isn't clear enough to see if there's another connection behind the first one. Although another guy who commented confirmed it is the line boost after speaking with Terry Welty.
I agree on the Line Driver, his EMGs are WHISPER quiet (I have them in my fretted and fretless Jazz basses with P/J and P pickups, absolutely amazing warm-ish vintage style pickups), so I don't think he'd have much use for a Noise Clamp, and since the majority of his tone comes from tube amps, I can imagine he'd want a lead boost here and there.
I would like to see a video about the rig of Justin Chancellor (Tool) or Shavo Odadjian (System of a Down). I'm very curious about the Les Claypool episode! :)
i highly doubt that's an AT3035 since it's a side address mic, from the shape of the mic and its placement i bet all i have(nothing) on it being a Heil PR30, the sE VR1 is a ribbon mic, bidirectional, hence, the sE screen
Hhmm, the engineer Greg Price has strewn a bunch of AT mic's across the stage for Tony and Tommy Clufetos' kit. It's not too much of a stretch to say Geezer might have an AT mic too. But I can't find evidence of the mic placement as you've suggested for an AT3035. The Heil PR40 is typically placed this way. So yeah it's possible.
Hey man, nice video as always! I have a suggestion for an episode: Peter Steele. I think it would be awesome to see one really overshadowed Bass player as him. He has a distinctive vibe for the type o negative sound that many haven't seen with further look. :D Well... That's my suggestion. Hope my English was somewhat clear XD but anyway, greetings from Mexico!!! :3
Hey Andres, thank you for the comment! Peter is a great bass player to look at. He's on the list and I'll see what I can do. You tell Mexico, I said "Hi!".
What's up my dude? I'm really digging the channel! We had talked before about you doing a video on Mel Schacher. I was wondering if you had made any progress on that and when we might be able to see it? Many thanks and blessings my friend!
Hey Chad, good to hear from you again. Progress on Mel ... Well ... It won't be soon unfortunately. There are a few others I'm in the middle of. However if more GFRR fans want to see some Mel. Tell me! and I'll bump him up the list. I still have your suggestion so I will keep you posted on the progress dude.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Mel from Grand Funk please! Very underrated bassist imho. Just listen to Grand Funk Live Album, his bass playing through those West amps was amazing.
Dude love the fucking videos. So educational and you covered three of my favorite bassists(geezer, Steve, and duff) on the first season! Very hard info to find especially being a bassist. You should definitely throw in cliff in season 2 rock on dude!!!
I wish you could do this for guitars and guitar players maybe on second chanel or something like that, but still this is also very good keep up the good work :)
Who can say for certain? Tastes can change or you just try something new. Although it looks like Ashdown did quite a lot of customising for Geezer which may have been a factor.
Thanks. Hey, can you do one on Pete Way -UFO I know he's known for Thunderbird bass and Marshall but I have seen him with Fender P Basses and Rickenbacher - Always wanted to know what he played on the Phenomenon and Force It album? I think he was using Fender and Orange maybe?? He is a legend! Not a great busy finger player but a legend!
I met Terry Wetley, Geezer's tech, a year or so ago, at a Black Sabbath fan fest in NY the night before a show at MSG. That's fascinating Andy, thanks for confirming. Terry is totally the kind of guy you could kick back with and drink a beer.
sounds like a failsafe method for when the rig doesnt work for whatever reason
@@torontotonto6189 Exactly. Can't let down a stadium full of people, ha!
During the "Born Again" era, he employed that multi effect board HEAVILY.
I play a 1980 BC Rich Eagle Deluxe because of Geezer (and Ron Holzner from Trouble, though he played a mockingbird). Seriously, vintage BC Rich are absolute treasures.
Agreed. Miss my warlock basses. Always wanted an eagle and stealth series bass too.
Awesome job, dude, I'm happy that I found this channel. The time put into researching this stuff is insane but I'm really impressed, so kudos to you on that. Props to you from Canada, and I'm looking forward to season two. Peace
Thanks again Andrew, you stay warm in Canada ;)

Your attention to detail is fantastic...Thank You
Thank you Tony, I do my best sir.
Thanks for the shout-out! Yeah, from what I can tell, it was most likely the Tycobrahe Pedalflanger...
Glad to get an answer for you! The interviews were fascinating. Two Tycobrahe's who'd have thought :D

Excellent! I've really enjoyed these. You manage to answer questions I didn't know I had!
Then my work is done! Thank you Andrew :D
Just one last bit on Geezers effects. He also used the wah pedal on the Mob Rules album and in concert for songs off the album. Thanks Jppagetoo I hadn't realised that. People like to choose Dio or Ozzy but come on ... It's Black Sabbath.
Thanks for this videos, you deserve more views
Thanks Marin, that's nice of you to say so :D
Btw awesome Chanel
That mic on the cabs was a Heil PR40, based on the color, end-address capsule, and mount. The Audio Technical is side-address, meaning that it cannot be the mic in that photo.
I binged season one today. Cheers love the channel.
I like you, you can stay! Thanks Reverend, I'm glad to have you watching. Did you have a favourite video or any suggestions?
@@WhichBass Matt from rancid would be cool. Cheers bro 🍶🍺

Thank you Cruise, good to see you back again. Glad to have answered your questions for the mid-career basses :D.
Thanks... A geek like me is happy.. More videos
Thank you Joe, happy to oblige!
Loving this channel man! Keep up the great work
Thanks for the comment Tarun, glad to have you stop by :D
Great vids. Greetings from Boston. I'm a gear nut so your channel is ideal. Keep them coming I've enjoyed them all. Thank you much.
Hey Lucy, thanks so much for the comment, hello to you in Boston. Glad to have you watching!
Geezer played the Vigier Passion during the Dehumanizer and Cross Purposes albums and tours. He also said he hated the BC Rich Iron bird bass because it was very unconfortable to play
I don't know how it could be uncomfortable to play. Very light weight.
Great research on the bass rigs! Will we see you do a John Entwistle rig rundown? I believe you to be the best person to run through The Ox's rig changes. (Though I'm sure it's gonna be a tough one going through them)
Thanks Alex, thanks kind of you to say so. I'll get to John eventually. The more people ask the sooner I'll make a start!
it's a line booster because booster is straight input/output , whereas the noise clamp has input/output with send/return which you dont see there
The picture isn't clear enough to see if there's another connection behind the first one. Although another guy who commented confirmed it is the line boost after speaking with Terry Welty.

Geddy Lee would be a cool one!
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll add Geddy to the list.
I would like to see a video about the rig of Justin Chancellor (Tool) or Shavo Odadjian (System of a Down). I'm very curious about the Les Claypool episode! :)
2 out of 3 of those people are coming in the next several weeks. Stay tuned ;)
good stuff! can't wait for season 2!!!!!! :)
Thank you Jam! I'll get it to you as soon as I can!
DO MIKE INEZ AND REX BROWN
If you were going to tell your best mate all about Mike, what would you say to get him to listen to him?
you should really do an in depth look at Les Claypool because he's got an interesting rig
A lot of people are asking for Les, you'll be seeing him in season 2. Thanks for the suggestion.
I'll be looking forward to it because I haven't ever seen an in-depth look at his basses and his amps and effects
There were so many comments about the sobriety (or lack of) of their sound man on interviews on RUclips. Hilarious.
Great videos! Thanks for this, bassist really need to know this stuff. Can you do John Wetton's?
Hey Jaun, thank you for the kind words. John Wetton is a great suggestion I'll see what I can do!
GREAT video!!!!!
Geezer is using a Dunlop signature wah, the gzr95 .. you left that out as well... along with an mxr bass distortion pedal.
Check part 2, the wah is in that video and I'll need a source for the distortion pedal!
Thx for all u do buddy! Wut kinda pedal is Geez using on the intro to N.I.B. on LIVE The End, plz? Thx
Thanks Doug! I think he was using his Dunlop wah or the Tycobro wah pedal.
Late 60s, Tychobrae wah.
hell yeah \m/
That was a great video and very informative. Now I have a question...Can I have it?
Can you have what Gazoo?
i highly doubt that's an AT3035 since it's a side address mic, from the shape of the mic and its placement i bet all i have(nothing) on it being a Heil PR30, the sE VR1 is a ribbon mic, bidirectional, hence, the sE screen

the evidence for the AT 3035 is that i do studio and live sound engineering, i just know you don't place it like that :D
He used Yamaha and what was he using during Ozzy?

Thanks for the comment Traces I'm glad you've enjoyed the series! Aahhh Cliff Burton, I have no doubt he will be making an appearance very soon.
Hey Trace, just wanted to let you know my Cliff Burton Bass Rig video is now online ruclips.net/video/3cb_99LWKnM/видео.html
When Geezer used the Emg's for Heaven and He'll and Mob Rules were They active or passive?
I believe they were passive, just your normal vintage EMG's. His Vigier basses were active and he didn't like those and changed to passive Laklands.
I wish you could do this for guitars and guitar players maybe on second chanel or something like that, but still this is also very good keep up the good work :)
Hey Crimson, you're not the first person to suggest this. If more people want to see guitar rigs I'll consider it! Thanks for the comment :D
Great videos. You should do Rex Brown
Thanks Lukas, Rex is a great suggestion, watch this space!
most excellent ' that's a massive amount of power
Tell me about it!
Best ending ever 7:04
Didn't Geezer just come out with a signature amp?
Yeah, it's mentioned here ruclips.net/video/ItnAS-7fvdM/видео.htmlm47s
or check part 2 where I talk about it further.
Hey can you make one on Tim Commerford ? :)
Hey Clement, Tim Commferford is on the list, watch this space!
Do one on lemmy or fieldy
What do you like about Lemmy?
whens the les video comin?
The Les video is in the works Yoimba, don't you worry it won't disappoint. You'll see Les in season 2.
you need to do Getty Lee of Rush, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd/Solo, and Mark Hoppus of Blink 182/+44
If you could watch one of those videos right now, which would it be? Go!
Getty Lee easy one of my biggest influences along with Cliff Burton of Metallica, and Les Claypoole of Primus
GEDDY!
Can you do an episode on Roger Waters gear?
Roger Waters is a great suggestion, thanks Fresh. Watch this space.
Why did he drop Ampeg?
Who can say for certain? Tastes can change or you just try something new. Although it looks like Ashdown did quite a lot of customising for Geezer which may have been a factor.

No worries dude. Pete Way! An interesting choice. I'll add him to the list and see what I can do.
rex brown will be nice
Rex is a great suggestion, thanks Proteus, watch this space.
Since 1992 to the last supper, Ozzy Osbourne 1995-1996
Yes! something like that!
Shame he went from Hartke to Ashdown ... Reliability and build quality has plagued Ashdown for ages.
Nice man. You should do Shavo Odajian soon. That would be cool!
I like it Doritos! Shavo is on the list.
make video about Lemmy's bass rig
Vigier is not pronounced "viger,"
It is French and properly pronounced "vee zhey." The 'j' sounds like the 'j' in Taj Mahal.
C'est la cie ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
