Late Night with Seth Meyers

This interview resonated with me. How vulnerable and awkward he was in that moment talking about his parents and still being respectful. The way Seth allowed Jerrod to speak and still finding the fine line of humor. Well done!
I felt he's always been that awkward, still liked his comedy of what I've seen
Parents and family can do a number on you for sure I’m glad that he’s telling his truth and loving himself.
Same here - this was an incredible interview
Me too. He seems like a kind fella
You will love his new one. Really beautiful stuff.
Bless his heart. He’s so vulnerable. I really hope his family understands he’s the same person. I hope he finds the unconditional love we all need.
he seems pretty resilient to me
He seems to be in a very good headspace. A little neurotic but vocal about not being okay over dismissive cues he gets from his fam.
@@Vianeigh863 I don't think neurotic is the right word here, I think anxious is the better term. The reason for his thought processes and behaviour isn't irrational or extreme. As you said, he seems to be in a good headspace. He seems to be working through things, rather than repressing, which is an excellent and healthy response.
He's the same person-- but more of himself!
need AND DESERVE!!!!!
Seth Meyers really knows when to just shut up and let someone talk. Such a great quality in an interviewer.
Or maybe he’s just a lazy bumm😮
Yea Ellen would've Made it damn Near about her
I never knew how shy Jerrod Carmichael is. When he performs he is much more confident than when he interviews...
Just imagine what Charlie Rose (back when he had a show) would have done... yikes.
He is expressing a level of vulnerability that is extremely rare. He’s lovely, he’s humble, he’s living in the truth of his moment. I love seeing this. I find it so hard to connect with people because seemingly everyone wears a social veneer. He is truly being honest about who he is and it’s beautiful. I wish there were more people like him.
What a beautiful conversation I just witnessed. Jerrod opening up about his family was very touching and relatable. I really hope his family realise that he’s still their talented, funny, genuine son and learn to accept all of him like mine eventually did. And kudos to Seth for being so considerate of Jerrod’s feelings, allowing him to speak freely and balancing the comedy & the importance of the conversation masterfully.
Well said 👍
Man, please. This is nothing, but, a publicity stunt to draw some attraction to his stand-up special, after he’s had a failed TV show and a stand up special that flopped some time ago.
Awesome interview. Jerrod seems so thoughtful and genuine. It’s refreshing to see a host let someone express themselves so openly without trying to dominate the conversation.
Seth is the best at that of all the late niters imo.
Yeah. They were so genuine. ❤️
@@IAmJustR I'm so happy that Seth was the one this interview happened with. Stephen Colbert is maybe the only other late interview host currently that could and would let the moment be.
@@checksanity agreed, Seth and Stephen are the best interviewers because they don’t interject. The Jimmys, Fallon in particular, turn the interview around and make it about themselves. I can’t even watch Fallon interviews, it feels like the guests can’t finish a single story with all his interruptions.
@@IAmJustR I fully agree. Seth is the absolute best interviewer!! He never has his own agenda. He lets the interview flow. It's beautiful.
And that was very raw and engaging.
His vulnerability in that moment is so powerful. I hope his family comes to realize that love is love.
Me too.
What a funny and genuine guy. I hope he continues to have massive success.
Don’t worry he’s already super successful. Some of his work is behind the scenes. He’s super talented. One of the best in the industry, in my opinion.
Indeed. Speaking of genuine, I loved his long, kinda goofy laugh after his comment about how he knew his parents would watch his special because they were signed into his account and it was on there as Next Up. 😁
*Yes...!!! 100% agree...!!! I've long been a fan of Jerrod & his brilliant style of comedy... & was also a big fan of the "Carmichael Show" ... It's great to see this interview & how he's now finally living his truth...!!! Looking forward to watching his HBO special...!!!* 👍 🔥
We're All Human just finding what makes us happy and peaceful during our journey🙏💕
“I think my family lives inside an elephant” man I related to that. Love his candor and his humor all the love to him.
If u haven't, check out his old TV show The Carmichaels. U really see his brand of humor. Plus the subjects are quite real.
I did too
I don't get that line. Can you please explain?
@@standupguy12 the saying "the elephant in the room means it's a obviously an intense situation in the family but everyone is choosing to ignore it. He said his family lives inside an elephant just meant they do this all the time probably toward every issue his family faces...like mine lol
@@udntknomeXX I miss that show
he needs to talk, to ramble and vent or cry and laugh; it is written all over his face. i hope he has a great support system that will be with him while he processes this. It's a lot to come out; even more so to do it as a black man, especially within our own community. I'm glad Seth seemed to understand that he was dealing with his emotions on the fly and just let him get it out. I wish the actual best for him in finding that inner peace we all need after removing such a huge weight from our souls.
Great comment. Thank you.
Well said.💞
I think Seth has a special space for this inner understanding... He also gave this kind of empathy for John Mulaney... Seth appreciates (the sometimes awkward) good writers.
All of my mom instincts told me to hold Jerrod during this interview and I'm glad Seth does hug him at the end. It says a lot about Seth's interview skills that he didn't try to steer him away from the deep and vulnerable content but embraced it and accepted the emotion without judgement.
Me too Katie. Hugs was what I felt.
I felt this way to now and during the special
Right? I totally just wanted to hug him. Like one of those long hugs you give a little kid to make them feel comforted.
I will be Jerrod’s family who loves him absolutely! My heart broke to see him describe the conversation with his Mom and Dad and stare at the floor. He is a brilliant young man ❤️
Same here.
I will never understand how anyone can choose a religious construct over their own flesh and blood.
He deserves to be loved for who he is, by the people he came from. No one should have to deal with such heartache. No one.
I love him too - he is awesome.
@@realworkoutsforrealpeople5041 Some people believe in a higher power some folks believe beyond our fragile live on this earth.
I hope , it eems complicated but at least they try?!
It's not so much about religion as it is about a deeper understanding of what we as people are conditioned to believe. Why sad when these things are apart of life. There is obviously love there. Gay or on drugs or whatever. The parent child relationship has been and will always be moment to moment, it's like a 50 year racist changing his mindset to accept others outside of his race. It can be done but imagine the effort and time put in. We all should try and remember everyone does not have the same idea about what is considered normal and we cannot force our beliefs on other, rather allow space and love to overcome. My two cents and God bless all of us.. me especially cause Lord knows as well as I do, I fall short everyday
That moment about the "sins"... whew, so much pain there... they all need to heal. I hope the parents educate themselves and move on. He's lovely, smart and funny. I wish him much success and happiness.
It hit similar to a moment in his special where he mentions being loved "despite" being gay. Being loved, but not accepted as a whole. I can relate and have heard similar phrases.
The education required is unfortunately connected to the type of religious practice/structure and understanding the parent is attached to. It's really more about them being willing to look at the church with an analytical and critical eye.
Sad she doesn't realize she's the one sinning. 💔
you can tell that their conversation was going so well and then she went there and the his heart just broke on the inside.... 😕
When he describe it as “almost nice” it broke my heart
The smacked me too. I felt so bad for him. I can't imagine how that must have hurt him.
Dude. It was like you were talking about my family. Learning to be okay with not being okay and letting people go while still loving them is hard. You're doing it your best way. Much love to you man
This is more like a therapy session than an interview. God bless him.
Same as special.
Shame on God (and you) he was asked Specifically what the conversation was like and he told the truth,,,,,,, q & a is different than a therapy session when it's live TV
He looks like he just got out of limo, still processing that phone call. "These sins are tearing the family apart." OUCH! Definitely not what you want to hear from your mom right before going on national television. 😢
So unbelievably raw, in the moment. You can see how torn he is, very heart wrenching.
Yeah
I'm sure he's heard worse... 🤔.
It is sad... I do wish him well... he is brilliant
I think she was talking more about him being a free mason than him being gay
I relate to him. And it not easy. I wish him luck
"It was almost very nice." Just heartbreaking. And amazing that he can bring that to share. This was awkward and painful to watch at times, but so compelling and engaging. It is quite literally what I want from art. It feels real and worthwhile.
One of the best interviews ever. You could see his inner turmoil throughout and Mr. Meyers’s questions were so on-point.
So on point: Yes. Amazing.
Seth your interview style has gone next level. This was a brilliant interview.
I think not being like the others, esp as in not as famous, in big films etc, & being a writer backstage & dealing with the probe, he initially want going to be as good taking to them, but he seems so relaxed with them bite, almost as good as Conan, so much better than all 3 James
Seth is such a good listener and he knows how to direct the conversation. You are right. This was a brilliant interview.
Yes, this was a brilliant interview. I have a friend who was interviewed on the show. The involvement and intelligence and caring that you see is real.
Too bad, like, the guest like, couldn't like, uhm, like, put a like um, like sentence together without like um, um like saying 'like' every other word and like, speak like, intelligently.
@@Mr21scott you're a d**k. he essentially just came out (again) to a large audience and is dealing with his family's (lack of) acceptance, and he's able to talk through that in the interview and let us all in on this really personal process. It was raw not rehearsed. If you wanted a bit go and watch someone else's stand up special.
I now exist in a constant state of wanting to hug Jerrod Carmichael. He is such a lovely person!
I will never understand how people think such vulnerable, pure souls "live in sin". I just want to give him a hug.
Saaaame. I was saying that when I watched Rothaniel. Jerrod seems like a very genuine person. So likable. I wanna hug him too lol
“I’m learning how to receive love” - what a great sentence. Me too. My dogs taught me how to receive love.
How do you learn to receive love? I need to sign up for the class.
Man, please. This is nothing, but, a publicity stunt to draw some attraction to his stand-up special, after he’s had a failed TV show and a stand up special that flopped some time ago.
@@WonLotto100M me too. How many credits is it?? 😂
@@ray1411 even if it is a publicity stunt, learning to receive love is a good lesson a lot of people need.
SAME 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
This was an incredibly special few minutes of TV. That was so vulnerable and courageous of Jerrod to open up like that, and it’s the kind of interview that could only happen on Late Night. That Seth and his team have created a show that has room for this kind of conversation is wonderful. I used to be a features reporter and would often have to talk to people about personal, traumatic events, but never while managing a studio audience - how Seth conducted this interview speaks highly of his own character. I watched it as it aired and nearly burst into tears when they desk hugged at the end and Seth wouldn’t let him go. We all need that sometimes. Some of us need it more.
It’s been really scary and exhausting to see the vitriol with which bigots have been going after queer people generally (and trans people earlier) - not to mention that so much of the public seems desensitized to it all. This interview made me feel safe and cozy and like I could breathe more easily for a few minutes. I hope Jerrod finds whatever peace he needs to move forward and that he knows he’ll always have a family in both the LGBTQ+ community and in New Yorkers.
I wasn’t able to watch live thanks for mentioning about the hug. Seth seems like a caring person. He appears down to earth and as someone you could hang with.
Oh, what a wonderful comment. Thank you.
@@amberdragonis1932 I have a friend who was interviewed on the show, someone who's been interviewed many times. He said this was a different experience than he's ever had. Seth really is what he appears to be.
Amazing post my friend ❤️
Thanks much for reporting on the hug, for those of us that only watch online. And though I'm not among the LGBTQ+ folks, speaking as someone on the autistic spectrum, I can definitely relate to the bigotry stuff you mention, as well as the "parents will blame themselves and never fully accept me as I am" stuff.
“The elephant is the room” hoo boy, does that ever resonate with me. All support in the world to this man. I appreciate someone bringing their heaviness onstage like this because it helps us all to carry our own. It’s so easy to feel alone because nobody talks about the dark things they carry. In reality we are all connected by the pain and the joy that is being human.
Beautifully said.
I worry about him. He’s a wonderful person inside and out. I really wish that his family can grow to understand and accept him. And eventually apologize for the way they have treated him. He deserves the world. We love you, Jerrod.
I, too, hope that time will let them see he's great no matter who he loves.
He's incredibly lovable and talented.
I generally hope his family can love and support him the way that he supports to be loved. The irony of all of this is that he's literally taking care of his entire family on his comedy career. He's taking care of people who are going through a process of learning to support him and love them the way that he deserves to be loved.
Yeah love you Jerrod, continue keeping it real out there
Seth handled him so well during this interview, felt like a therapy session. Or a friend venting/sorting out their feelings to another friend. Seth didn't get awkward, AND the audience was on point. Remained quite and showed support when needed.
Rothaniel was reallly moving. It was like I knew he was going to do it, the moment i saw him hit the stage 🥰. I related to everything he said about family secrets and being aware of them as a child. And it was beautifully shot.
This was one of the best interviews I have ever seen on any TV show. News or talk. He is so open and vulnerable. Seth you knocked it out of the park in allowing his measured responses.
I just fell in love with this man!
So genuine, open, gentle, honest.
Wow! Just WOW!
I'm so glad he told that story about his parents. It's going to help a lot of people.
Nice to see such a real, raw interview with such nice guy. It reminds me that we forget sometimes now that being openly gay has become so much more main stream that is still such a struggle for so many who have to deal with acceptance from their family members.
This is such a brilliant interview. It really touched my heart to hear him talk about his family and the struggle with coming out and receiving love. I can’t wait to watch his new special!
I am sitting in appreciation and awe of the vulnerability. How incredible to have a challenging moment on the phone, and go straight to a live interview. Thank you for bringing awareness that unacceptance of the LGBTQ by family can seem so subtle, and be so harmful.
Jerrod’s special “Rothaniel” was so well done. While explaining the details of his father’s infidelity and how his environment chose to overlook it, he was highlighting how people are often at peace with their own sins. Yet, when it comes to individuals who come out as gay, people find that to be an unforgivable sin. He says that his mother stated that his sins would tear the family apart. The hypocrisy is wild. Well done, Jerrod.
You don’t know his mom’s “hypocrisies” making assumptions makes you just as bad.
@@rmtjr237 what I’m saying is that people can find a way to overlook a spouse being adulterous, but find it impossible to overlook their child being a homosexual.
@@virtuoso8642 not the same ballpark but I'm sure you got a good stretch from that long reach
An ex-evangelical I met once explained to me the difference that exists in a lot of peoples' minds in that regard. She said they weigh all sin as equal, but you have to "repent", part of that being trying not to sin again. This presents a problem with being gay, because it's not an action that you choose; it's a natural part of who you are. People with this mindset will forgive someone who has done terrible things as long as they claim to be sorry and to "change", but will condemn members of the LGBT+ community just for being themselves.
@@micrhymer4062 you sound ignorant bud
I just finished watching his HBO Special and I must say it has to be one of the BEST specials I have ever seen thus far. The vulnerability was so refreshing in a world where we as a society have move towards always having a mask on (figuratively and literally). Rothaniel Jerrod Carmichael; Thank You 🌹🌹
I loved this interview. He was so vulnerable, kind, and pure during his interview
It's pretty bloody rare to see someone allowed to talk as necessary at length without cutting to commercial. This was beautiful.
Really appreciate that SM uses youtube to allow time for this real conversation. Carmichael’s openness about his talk with his Mom will help a lot of young people feel seen. He was excellent on SNL and his energy seemed to lift the whole show.
Hi, did you mean that the whole interview was not on the actual show?
One of the caring and thoughtful and with Seth help beautiful interviews. Allowing Jerrod to just talk and share his story
I didn't really know Jerrod Carmichael before this, I've only heard about the special (and I will watch it now!) but this was amazing and I just want to send him all the love in the world. Coming out--especially the doing it over and over and over part, especially to halfway acceptance rather than full support--is so hard, but being like this in the public sphere is nothing short of inspiring. We use that word too much, maybe, but I'm genuinely meaning it right now. You can FEEL this. I hope he realizes how much being real in this way resonates and reverberates out to people who will need it more than he'll know. And I hope it keeps echoing back to him and he gets all the kinds of love and support that he needs. 💜🌈

@@avionlanier5574 I did, it was great!
His authenticity and vulnerability and transparency in the moment is extremely touching. I really appreciate this interview, so happy Seth gave him space to express
This is so real. I've never seen such raw emotions, honesty and nerves expressed on any later night. Wow! I don't even know how to feel, honestly. Thank you both.
One of best interviews I’ve seen in a long time…so real…so human…beautiful!
Sending Jerrod Carmichael so much love -- being on stage after that conversation, and being so vulnerable while he knows his family will be watching the interview, he deserves all the love and support he can get.
Yes
I was SO impressed with him when seeing his monologue on SNL and am even more so now. "I am learning how to receive love..." he is really disarming. What a beautiful human being he is...I hope his parents are very proud of him.
Of you’ve not watched his latest special Rothaniel, you should asap. It’s incredibly powerful.
I am so proud of him for sharing such an emotionally charged experience with grace and care.
His honestly and vulnerability is remarkable and so comforting. For anyone who hasn't watched the new special, it's incredible.
Wow, this was a fantastic interview. Seth is quite adept in conducting and maneuvering with all sensitivity throughout this interview. He created a safe and comfortable environment for Jerrod to open up and share personal and private thoughts. Also props to Seth's audience. They also accepted and responded to the interview in a very mature and respectful manner. Many of the other show's audiences i.e. Bill Maher (the worst audience) Jimmy Fallon, Steven Colbert are just a bunch of wooing and clapping seals. Laughing and woo wooing anything and everything said. Even for the most delicate of subject matters. Seth's show is at a higher level of maturity and intelligence and sensitivity. Other shows would not be able to handle this interview at all. Thank you Seth to raising the bar.
Woo wooing. 😂😂

He was the best host of the season. Just lovely.
What an amazing raw, humble, vulnerable interview. He seems like a really nice guy.
This was a really wonderful and moving interview. Seth did a great job asking thoughtful questions and then leaving plenty of space for the responses, and Jerrod gave so much of himself, it almost felt like an unearned gift for me watching. I hope it was a healing moment for him.
What a valuable, rare, and touching interaction. This is what you get when you don't have these constant over-rehearsed and canned late-night interviews. Its clear Jerrod is genuinely - and maybe torturously -living out what millions of us have done before and millions of us will do tomorrow and next week. As far as the lbgt+ movement has come - how more normalized and accepted it appears -telling your parents about your sexuality remains a singular experience - difficult beyond any expectations, terrifying, life-changing. Its one of those few moments in life that is truly a right of passage. Its an accomplishment like no other. Congratulations, Jerrod. Hope to bump into you on Grindr some day.
He’s such a beautiful and considerate human 😌❤️ bless Jerrod on his journey! Thank the lord we have humor to navigate and help us get through difficult life moments 🙏🏼❤️
Watching this made me wanna give him a hug.
And I didn't know this man until this interview.
Love Jerrod!!!! He is a great comic and writer!! I hope he finds peace in living his truth openly 💜💛🙏🏾
I've been a fan of Jerrod for a very long time. I'm so proud of his growth as a human, living in his truth & being vulnerable with all of us. Accepting love is incredibly hard, especially if the ones closest to you aren't pouring into you as much as strangers. Stay true to yourself💚🌈.
Yes love him. ❤️❤️
It feels like a Dick Cavett show or something. Because the conversation is so personal and not necessary packed with jokes. I love it.
Real talk.
I know what you mean. Though I think Seth is more at peace with himself than Dick Cavett.
I seriously thought the same exact thing! I loved it, too. We need more of this.
I love the love in the comments. He should stay in NY and take the love in, no matter how odd it may feel. I have a child who is part of the lgbtqia+ community and he has told me and his younger sister. Not his dad. Not anyone else, even though he is loved immensely by everyone and it would change nothing. He feels some level of concern that it would. I hate that he feels that for something he has no control over. Just ❤️
@photag216 thank you! I try really hard.
No he should move to Atl around Lennox or midtown
What a gift Jerrod is! He's doing some important work healing himself, trying to heal his family and allowing us all in with these little glimpses into his heart and mind. Seth handled him with such kindness and respect. I appreciate seeing that care displayed. We could all stand to give and receive more kindness.
For me, this is one of the finest entertainer interviews of all time. Funny, courageous, generous, thoughtful... a balanced engaging exchange between two exceptional people. Thank you Seth. Thank you Jerrod.
We need more people talking about the conversation that you have with your family being queer. Such a talented dude.
As a baby boomer, I came out to my folks 50 years ago. While at first they had a tough time handling that reality, they quickly came around. Cultural differences aside, I think it’s a fair assessment, that many parents feel “they did something wrong”. (at least when I came out) Even when my mom, came to accept my being a lesbian, she asked that I not reveal this aspect of my identity to my grand dad (her father). In truth, as much she said, “he wouldn’t understand”, in retrospect, I think she was afraid (whether real or imagined) of how he would judge her, as lacking as a parent. It’s about time, once and for all that any LGBTQ identified person across our planet just be themselves, and it’s a non issue. Bravo to Jerrod for standing up and speaking truthfully in such a public forum. The more visible we are, and are loved and respected, the less the fear mongers can force us back into their closets!
I couldn't agree more. Thank you for this and have a beautiful day. 🌅
@@elizabethdalton-jandreau5588 😌
That had to be extra tough 50 years ago. I have an uncle who is gay and waited until his Dad passed away to "officially" come out. I think he was about 60 years old! How ridiculous is THAT?! My Grandpa was a wonderful person and I highly doubt that he would've even been upset, but who knows considering the era and location (small Midwest farming town). That's how they were raised and very few take time for personal growth. I've always felt bad for my uncle having to pretend he was someone he wasn't.
@@nicolepsy So hard to hear that about your Uncle. Though at least he was able to finally live his life as his full self, BRAVO. I have to say, I was blessed to have extraordinary parents, given they were both in the “greatest generation”. I grew up up in an artistic environment, within a liberal cosmopolitan community. Even with their own fears, (mostly for my safety and future) having those “externals” made it much easier. I can’t imagine all the LGBTQ folks living under repressive societies. (wherever they are) to come out there, now, that takes real courage!
Great comment, JB. Thank you.
The extreme vulnerability in how he speaks his truth is so raw. He’s on his path to heeling and finding his true self, so inspiring! 👏🏾👏🏾
This is one of the best conversations I’ve ever seen on any talk show. What a terrific and kind guy. Also one of the best best hosts/guests on SNL - amazing how he incorporated this kind and open sensibility even into the comedy sketches. Happy Birthday, Jerrod! (I’m so pleased to share a birthday week with you.)
Seth is such an amazing interviewer. His skill and technique with his guests is superb. Proud of Jerrod.
what a pleasant joy when a late night talk show conversation delves into so much emotional honesty, when both the guest and host are unafraid to dive deep into the vulnerable without overdoing it nor skimming the surface.
This was a hard interview for Jerrod. Continued success to him. He is a talented comic.
Wow! Amazing!! This was like a real discussion between people! Faith in humanity, the U.S and in media slightly restored. No apologies for being human!
This was really special to watch. He’s discussing a conversation that a lot of us are dreading. It’s so hard reconciling your parent’s love with their lack of understanding of a core part of who you are.
I just want to give Jerrod a hug.
Wow. I’ve never felt an interview feel like the words, conversations, and feelings were going to make my heart explode while I can’t breathe.

Jerrod is dope, razor sharp mind. "The Elephant is the Room" can be the title of his next special or a book.
I am glad he came out and hope his family stops tripping on it. If they alienate him, just for being true to himself it will be their loss and a needless pain for all.
Better title “The Elephant is the Room”☺️ He’s brilliant💗

I have no idea who he is, or anything about his work, but this is very possibly my favorite interview on LNwSM that I have ever watched. It's just such a rare moment of uncut honestly, and humility, I don't think I have ever felt so much like I was actually present for the conversation. I wish Jerrod all the best in his process of finding a comfortable place in his family life, but also wish I could gently remind him that he will always have a supporting family in the LGBTQIA+ community.
His specials display this exact same vulnerability and introspection and I highly suggest giving them a watch! 8 especially, which was also directed by Bo Burnham. The pair always put out incredible work together.

Sending so much love to Jerrod. Seth did such a phenomenal job here as well, leading the whole interview with kindness and letting Jerrod process as he needed to.
This was such a beautiful interview, so good I had to immediately watch it again. I discovered Jerrod thanks to SNL and did not know his story until this interview. Impressive how open he is with emotions in the moment. I wish him the best in life. Seth Meyers has always been one of the best with interviews and this just clearly shows why. Yes, about Seth, I have a friend who was interviewed on his show, someone who was interviewed a lot because of a book he wrote. He said that Seth's was far and away the best, most informed, kindest interview he had.
Aww man, what a good dude. I wish him nothing but continued success. Very kind and graceful of Seth to have him on and to handle it so delicately.
Chef's kiss. Only Seth can do justice to such interviews.
I loved The Carmichael Show, and I love even more that he’s living his life on his terms. I hope his family can get past seeing his sexuality as a “sin” and accept him fully for who he is, because he’s an awesome man and they should be proud to call him theirs.
The Carmichael Show was brilliant. Wishing him unconditional love and much success.
What a beautiful and vulnerable moment for us all to watch unfold. Jerrod did a wonderful job of being honest and sharing his thoughts, while never disrespecting or blaming anyone. He’s holding space for everything and I pray that he continues to do so. Because he’s helping and inspiring so many people.
I've never heard of this person before but they are so engaging, vulnerable, genuine - I was instantly drawn in
I don't recall if I have ever watched Jerrod's interviews, but his body language... I want to hug him, and also know his story so much more now...
I confess I hadn't heard of him until he hosted SNL last weekend (in which I thought his monologue was great). And now to see him give such a touching interview here... excuse me while I go watch his special.
7:19 that looks says everything, how revolting it is to be open to the world and then being suppressed by a belief love ain't no sin, only if people could detach the absent logical premise of religion and add more genuine human true love the world could be a better place! You can do this Jerrod!
It really was packed with pain and hurt. Devastating to see and if I have ever wanted to reach through the screen and give the man a 🫂.
Hadn't heard of him until SNL, and then I fell in love with him. People are hungry for real connection and emotion.
Such a vulnerable and honest interview. I remember the coming out process with my family. Just want to give him a big hug at this point. You're doing it right, man. Hang in there with them.
Love Jerrod! His unique style of comedy, intelligence and courage are inspiring!
This is incredibly relatable. It feels like such a raw moment. I wish him so much greatness. Sending him a hug.
Great interview, and the stand-up special was just phenomenal. I watched in Friday and again on Saturday, but I can’t stop thinking about it.
I think I’ll watch it again. I watched it after seeing him on SNL.
I see pain in your eyes as you talked about the conversation with your Mom. It reminds me of the same one I had with my own Mom a few years ago. She just passed about a month ago, and I must say the years after the conversation we grew closer. My Dad’s take was that he always respected the person I was. Continue to live in your truth and shine, your courage is a beacon of light for others. ❤
Honest candor and perspectives shared so human
Great interview
What a powerful interview! Jerrod- Your bravery in coming out as well as sharing your family’s reactions will help others who are struggling. Thank you for all that you shared. I realize being this vulnerable in public is difficult but know that, in the end, you will be better for it. I wish you all the best as you continue in your career and personal growth.
And for Seth: Thank you for being so giving, kind and supportive of Jerrod. Allowing him to convey his message without being interrupted or hurried was so wonderful.
God bless you both.
Jerrod, to me, is one of the most thought-provoking comedians around.
His sitcom offered such nuance and it's a shame we didn't get more of it.
His sense of style is also impeccable I kinda want to see him do a fashion collab with Tyler or something.
His whole being is so calming to me. I love listening to Jerrod speak. It’s beautiful.
