Atari VCS owner, I have 2, and I pre ordered the 2600+ need a way to play those old carts! What a great time to be an Atari fan, they've really stepped it up lately. I hope it pays off for them
I'll end up getting both. I've already ordered the 2600+ because of my massive cartridge library, but I'll pick up the Gamestation Pro to load up the card and play everything else.
This vid solidifies the decision I already made. I don't have original 2600 carts and the price and what you get from 2600+ vs GSP is no contest. I'm going with GSP. My only issue with it is that the add on games we will find online aren't perfectly compatible. Eg: Kaboom isn't included in the original hardware and therefore the paddles won't work. I hope that My Arcade addresses this. That will make it perfect enough, for what I'm looking for.
I've been waiting for this video. Thank you for laying it out the way you did. Still thinking i want the 2600 plus more, but both would be welcome in my living room. Thanks for the video.
Really good upload brother. You have more natural talent for this then most 10 million subscriber tech RUclipsrs. I think the GSP is probably the best route for most casuals. A lot of people my age miswsed these original generations completely. I do like old games a lot though, Atari mainly but some intellivision and coleco as well. Those old games have so much charm. Those old paddle games can be so much fun.
Thanks for the kind words. I think you're spot-on about the GSP's market appeal. Plenty of viewers lament, "Just get a Pi!" which is great for hobbyists, but a long way from plug-and-play and beyond the skills of the average consumer. The variety and convenience is the big appeal.
Great video! The Gamestation Pro was definitely the right choice for us as we wanted to be able to play a bunch of old stuff from a variety of platforms and not have it take up a bunch of space. Having a blast going through the libraries online just full of Roms and trying them out. It's a Merry Christmas for all of us GenXr's!
I am getting the Gamestation Pro. Im a grown up Gen-Xer myself with fond memories of my Atari days, but no physical collection of carts (they vanished long ago). I heard about the 2600+ first and decided to get it, and just buy Atari carts off Ebay or something, but after hearing about the GSP, i changed my mind. Its amuch cheaper and hassle free option, i don't have to buy cartridges and the ability to download ROMs, especially for my arcade games really is something I can't do on the 2600+. So i went from "about to pre-order the 2600+" to actually "pre-ordered the GSP".
Truthfully I'm getting both! As an Atari fan, I can see the need for having both, as well as the collect ability aspect. 2600+ has been preordered with amazon since the first day it was announced. GSP is currently in route via Costco. Looking forward to playing and enjoying both!
I have the GSP and upgraded it with an SD card and it rocks! Exactly want I wanted: play multiple generations of Atari games on one plug and play system.
It’s a no-brainer !! If you have lots of Atari cartridges, then it’s the Atari plus. If you have none , then obviously, it’s the Atari Gamestarion Pro.
The GSP wins hands down. I purchased my GSP from my local Costco for $79.99. And to have a micro sd slot along with the ability to use my Xbox controller is a no brainer! The Atari 2600+ on the other hand is listed at $129.99 and has no options like the GSP. I still own plenty of 2600 carts but have no desire to dust them off... Great video and keep'em coming dude!!!
Wow. I ordered the GSP directly from the manufacturer back in September. It still has not shipped. I can't believe it's in stores! The manufacturer had already taken my $$ Very annoying.
@@heinzpilot well "in stores" is more like "in one store only"... I think the GSP only made it to Costco and may (or may not) already be sold out at said location(s). I don't even have a Costco where I live, so "in stores" isn't a thing around here... yes, i too pre-ordered the GSP from My Arcade, but I don't really have any other option at the moment... it's supposed to be out by the end of the month though.
I may buy both, but I especially like the 2600+ because it supports 7800 games, and I assume it's also region free. This seems to be the first modern release that supports 7800 cartridges. Some people thought the Retron77 should have done the same. I can probably find an adapter if I want to use the 2600+ on a CRT.
You know the GSP also supports 7800 games... and 5200 games... and Atari Arcade games... and 8 and 16-bit arcade games... and NES games... and Sega games (and literally 10,000+ games)... get the 2600+ if you want the 2600+, just don't think it has the capability to play more games than the GSP... that's simply not the case at all.
I pre-ordered the plus day 1. I'm just excited about an hdmi solution for my carts.... I'm hopeful (but doubtful) that the plus will run my Harmony cart... but a man can hope!
I have really enjoyed playing games on my GSP and have no regrets. Your info about getting games on the sd card and playing them on the GSP was invaluable. Yeah, issues with the controllers B & C placement is a bit wonky but yet again Jon to the rescue with another solution. My only real complaint is that I only get sound out of one speaker on both TV's. I'm still on the fence about the 2600+. I don't know if I want to start collecting carts again. I noticed some local vendors have raised their prices on the popular carts. $$
I am getting the 2600+ and I got the flashback gold 50th anniversary edition for the righteous game selection on there. (Not loading these with roms or whatever)
I bought the Gamestation Pro ($80 at Costco brick and mortar) based ENTIRELY on your "10,000 Games!" video. Thank you for that! 😃 I've watched and rewatched it many times. I had a 2600 back in the original era, but I have NO nostalgia for it. I am in it for the Arcade games. They play Great! But you're right about the AGSPs controllers. They seem to be made well, but they aren't comfortable and, in my limited experience, not responsive enough. I'm going to add an Xbox controller and see if it helps.
@@wolfshanze5980 Thanks for the tip! I never had a Genesis, but I like that button layout for these arcade games better than the Xbox. Let us know how that works out. I'm especially concerned that the button layout matches, and doesn't do something weird like swapping B and C. And don't forget the USB-A to USB-C adapter!
@@CaptainZap79 Ya, for instance Arcade Missile Command (with three bases) would work better on the Sega controller with the A, B, C layout than either the GSP or X-Box controller would... just hoping it will turn up like that... and yes, I ordered a USB A to C adapter at same time... I have my MicroSD card, MicoSD USB adapter and my Genesis USB controllers all sitting on my desk... just no GSP to play it on yet! lolz.
Great video, John. I got a GSP at Costco for $80. Im enjoying it, but I was surprised by how much lag there is for both the joysticks and the paddles. It's very noticeable. Also, it didn't come with the checklist poster. I guess they had to cut costs somewhere. Im happy I bought it, though. My son and I are having a blast with it.
I was just at Costco the other day and spotted the GSP for just $79.99. Between the GSP and the 2600+, I would definitely choose the GSP as I don't currently have any Atari hardware, nor any carts. I would have to look back at the Flashback too as someone in the comments reminded us before I can make a final decision though. For 80 bucks at Costco though, the GSP is sounding hard to beat.
For me, I have the rom and emulation covered. Whether that is on PC, or my SNES Classic. That 2600+ offers me the ability to have (hopefully) quality play with my 150+ 2600 games, and 2)+ 7800 cartridges with my current setup using HDMI. I have a VCR and a Composite adapter as the middlemen to get hardware gaming onto modern screens (and for streaming). However, it is terrible quality and portions of the visuals are generally missing do to how some games got around limited display abilities on the original hardware. The Atari Gamestation Pro is a tempting system, but that 2600+ just screams perfection.
I do have a mountain of carts for the 2600 and 7800. Have never bothered with emulation or downloading roms so getting the 2600+ is still a no brainer for me. I'm hoping if this sells well, Atari will start releasing new 7800 games on cart as well.
I would love that. I own only six 7800 games from having the console as a child. The rest of my collection is made of 2600 games and the 7800 is becoming increasingly difficult and expensive to purchase for. I can't see the 2600+ helping its cause in that respect either.
After a year of ruminating I finally got a great deal on an Atari Gamestation Pro. I'm limited on living space and I already have and original 2600 so I bought the GSP. Mostly what swayed my decision was the fact that the wireless connectivity for the unit would eliminate the obvious use of cords and ability to sit back and play. Plus with grandkids running around they would try to run through the area, (a carefully thought out youngster plan to get Grandpa to give up playing on it so they can take over : ) ). The 2600+ only had one thing that bothered me was its lack of use of certain games, where I have them and even the roms and they work on the GSP. All in all, these were the reasons I went with the GSP.
Wanted to share my thoughts and I hope I won't ramble quite too much. I am a huge fan of the 2600 (first console I ever played), got quite a few at home including over 100 games. And with one of my units recently dying, I was thinking of getting a 2600+ to preserve my collection. But with living space at a premium, swapping between carts, joystick and paddles (which bugs me a lot with the 50 anniversary flashback as well) AND the slight compability issues of the 2600+, I ended up with a GSP. I live in Germany where the unit just doesn't seem to be sold at all, so I actually ended up paying a bit more than MSRP, but I do not regret it at all. I just love the thing. Thanks to your videos, I was able to put about every 2600, 7800 and a few of my favorite Arcade games on there and this is what the console feels just "made for" (as its built-in games kind of represent this also). Its design also slightly reminds me of the 2600 Jr which was the first console I ever played. I do also like the sticks a whole lot, ESPECIALLY with its built-in Paddle which by itself almost justifies the entire system: No more swapping! So if at one day I will have to get rid of my 2600 collection, I will be very content that lives on in this small box.
I was super excited about the 2600+ when I first saw the advertisement. I wasn't excited about trying to dig out my old games from my moms house. When I looked for more information on it I came across your channel and found out about the Game Station Pro. The Pro is exactly what I was looking for. I can play classic Atari games and expand upon it. Perfect. There's still something cool about plugging in a cartridge old school style but it's the pro for me. Great review!
With upgrades and in the long run, the 2600 + will be more expensive especially if you don't have a stack of carts already and if you plan to add home brews and legacy controllers which can be quite expensive. My rule of thumb for video games is, no matter how fun the gameplay is or how enticing the graphics are if the controller is not right the game is spoiled and these two have distinctly different controller schemes.
As always informative yet light hearted and fun stream. I actually was choosing between the 3 consoles with Atari50 Flashback being the third and the one I am going with now that paddles are fixed. A big plus is the inclusion of 2 sticks and 2 paddles. And I prefer wired controllers with this mini games. The 2600+ is kind of ala carte. And I still dont care for the GP joysticks but give them credit for trying something unique. I actually leaning toward the Flashback before your stream on. adding roms. That kind of did it. At least I have the option. Although if i do I will only be adding games from the 2600 library to keep it true to the system and nostalgia.
I already ordered the Game station Plus for convenience. I have original 2600s, 7800s, 8 & 16 bit computers, so purchasing the 2600+ would be wasteful at this time, but it's a great opportunity for others!
Great video. These are different tools for different jobs. I have several ways to emulate retro consoles and romsets on my TV - including the Modern VCS in PC-Mode - so the My Arcade unit is not for me. On the other hand, I have a large collection of physical carts for both the 2600 and 7800. I enjoy physical media like I do vinyl. 2600+ for me.
Another great video. Your presentation style is absolutely first rate, accompanied by a wonderful script. I’m hoping Santa brings me the 2600+ for Christmas. The original 2600 and 7800 machines are an absolute swine to tune into a modern TV and this machine will mean I can play the original cartridges with decent picture quality with ease. Keep up the fantastic work!
Hey Jon, thanks for the video, great stuff as usual. Since I already own an original 7800 I ordered the Gamestation Pro. I got the original 4 port 5200 for my HS Graduation present but lost it somewhere along the way so I'm really looking forward to playing some of those old 5200 classics on the GS Pro. Keep the great content coming brother!
I already had a couple of old 2600s and a decent collection of old carts. I considered the GSP... but I like the ability to plunk a 40+ year old cart in and play it on crisp clear HDMI.
Grabbed a Game Station Pro, I needed a smaller sized system to fit in my entertainment center, and I liked the look of the GSP, as it matches my Atari Jr.
Great video! You do such a great job on your channel communicating information. I bought a GSP from Amazon last week. I also watched your videos on adding ROMs via the microSD Card and upgrading the firmware on the GSP. I have to say that your instructions made this easy peasy! I am enjoying the GSP a great deal and I picked up a pair of Xbox controllers and USB-C power/data cables to connect the controllers to the GSP that made playing the games a lot more enjoyable. Keep up the great work!
Found your videos today while searching for this very topic. I'll probably get both (well, got the GSP today) but I am especially excited about the 7800 controllers possibly getting released. I have been looking for some at a decent price for a couple years now. I bought some 7800 games at a show about 3 years back and found my 7800 controller was broken, the first one broke the last time I really played the unit back in 1998. Luckily the Genesis controller works but I want some authenticity. I have to say that the 7800 is pretty delicate. BTW, the color ring on the GSP joystick looks a lot like the final version of the Atari 2600 which was the one I knew.
I was an Intellivision fan boy in the 1980s and only experienced Atari 2600 from playing at a friends house. The flashing issues are gone with these modern consoles. I purchased both of them and favor the Atari Gamestation Pro since I have no legacy games. I really like the look for the Atari 2600+ and wish I had my own collection like I have with my Intellivision. Hopefully someday, a native HDMI Intellivision console at the same quality as the Atari 2600+ comes out someday.
Getting a 2600+, I'm Gen Z so I didn't grow up with the games but consider myself a budget collector of physical games(mainly Switch rn), Atari carts are still affordable around me and I like that this can play 7800 carts. Homebrew is great for all the Atari stuff and Atari 50 was incredible.
First off, awesome channel! Your reviews and content is precise and always mentions all features. It has helped with some of my purchasing decisions, in a good way. So here’s my challenge: A mega Atari summary review that includes The 2600+, GSP, and not too long ago the 2600 50th mini classic console, the 50th Anv. Game Collection, and even the Atari Flashback collection (like switch collection not the old minis) Probably would like to see how the classic mini gold fits in compared to the two new ones. As an Atari fan, so grateful for all the options and overwhelmed at the same time, haha!
Thanks for the kind words and for watching. 😀 Glad you've found my stuff helpful. Your challenge sounds like quite an undertaking. This specific matchup was in answer to so many inquiries asking "which one is better" between these two new consoles releasing in Q4. The FBGold would be at a marked disadvantage in a similar shootout: fewer games, fewer platforms, wonky paddles, and more complex expansion.
Good video. I have already pre-ordered the game station Pro myself. I want to add all the Atari games and games from other systems via the emulator using the SD card myself
I’m super excited about the plus, I was looking at getting a 2600 or 7800 and getting a set up for it for modern tvs (or possibly a mod if it was easy enough). This wraps up that very nicely. It Pretty much takes a 2600 library well into the 21st century.
I bought both and I love both. The Game Station Pro is great for loading up all those thousands of ROMs and then spending hours and days exploring them all. The controllers are a bit uncomfortable to use because of the button placement, so I find myself plugging in an Xbox controller most of the time. I've had my original 2600 since 1977 and dozens of game cartridges, so it's great to see them all looking so clean and vibrant on the new 2600+. My only gripe is the shortness of the controller and power cord. I bought a Hyperkin Trooper controller to use with it, since it has a 10 foot cord, and it's much better. Now if we can just get someone to re-release my favourite old controllers - the Discwasher Pointmaster, everything would be perfect!
Decided to go with Gamestation as it's expandable and has the better all-round controller. Seems like if I want to expand my library of Atari games it's definitely possible on the Gamestation and I can dabble with home-brew. Picked this for my friend too, though I'm undecided for him because he might enjoy building a library of elusive carts.
I love both consoles, but I’m all in with a 2600+! I cannot wait to open that box and plop in a game. the last Atari console I opened was the Lynx in 1989. I never thought I would see something like that ever again in my life.
I hope the 2600+ controller is easy to use. I've noticed that modern remakes like the Atari Flashback 9 controller which I have, use a membrane under the joystick as opposed to the metal contacts inside the original controller. The modern joysticks don't have the stiffness of the original, are much easier to use, while still resembling the original joystick.
I don't know what old vs new controllers are made of inside, but if my memory serves me correct (and i'm old, so who knows) my memory of the 2600 controllers is that they were always breaking or "warping" with use... that's my memory of said controllers from over 40 years ago... no evidence to back it up though!
@GenXGrownUp I'm kidding. I'm a little mad at myself, but you live, and you learn. I think they'll both be good in different ways. I'll probably put one in my living room and one in my bedroom. I think I can still cancel the pre-order for the 2600+ (within 30 days of your order, but before it has shipped), but I believe that's only for the console and not the accessories (which I spent $65 on). Plus, I bought a few cartridges for $15. I feel committed now. Lol!
I've preordered the 2600+. I'm a physical medium collector, (still recollecting the games of my youth) and I want to use my controllers too, so Its the logical choice for me.
Awesome video . I collect for a lot of old consoles . Especially Atari . So I preordered each of these when they were announced just to have in my collection but this is a great video to have as a reference for anyone that is undecided .
I already have a working 7800 so the Atari 2600+ is not necessary, but knowing me I would want to get both because that’s just how I roll. If I was going to buy one first it would be the GameStation Pro.
I just received the 2600+ and it's fantastic. There is no input delay with the controller. It feels exactly like the original. Keep in mind, the 2600+ does not detect the 2600 controller vs. 7800 controller in some 7800 games. For example, on an original 7800 console, it's possible to play 7800 Xevious with the 2600 controller. The fire button will shoot both guns and bombs. The 2600+ console with the 2600 controller will only fire bombs.
Hmm....Both sound good. I was wanting the 2600+ for the 7800 game play as I never had the 7800. I still have my Jr. and it works fine. I go for the Pro first, then later get the Plus if they put out a 7800 controller for it. Both have features I like, but I cannot get them both so close together. Thanks for the video. It has been helpful.
I had my original Atari well into the 2000s until i had a flood in my basement that ruined everything and i threw it all away (that was probably a mistake). Seeing this video i'm more inclined to get a Pro because i'm dont want to get into a hunt for cartridges. However, now i'm wondering about a comparison between the Pro and the Flashback Gold because they seem very similar but i like the retro styling of the FB Gold over the chrome Pro. Maybe if you are looking for a new video idea, that might be one. thanks for the video, it's much appreciated.
Well just remember you can add over 10,000 games to the GSP and it's more than just Atari (can also do arcade, NES and Genesis games)... i'm not an expert to the Flashback Gold, so i'd compare that aspect too.
I was sold on the 2600+ as soon as I heard it would play the original carts, which I have a bunch for 2600 and 7800 along with my childhood systems. I’m a big fan of the Activision games which many of the Atari built in game systems don’t have as stock.
Thank you for this great video explaining the difference between the two systems. As far as retro consoles; I currently own an SNES, Gamboy color and also own an Atari Flashback 2. When I was growing up I did own the Atari 2600 but not sure what ever happened to it after I left and got my own place. Both of the consoles in your video have different yet important pros and cons. My personal preference between these two would be the Atari 2600+. I prefer cartridge games and love that the design stayed true to the original 2600. I love the fact that it can play the originals cartridges. Although the Gamestation Pro has the ability to play additional games from other systems with a bit of effort, I would still lean towards getting the 2600+.
I already have the 2600+ on order and I've got some old carts for it. But I think I'm going to get the Gamestation too so I can add ROMS - if only to play Zelda and Sonic on an Atari. They'll both look great with my VCS.
I think what some more purists are wondering is if the Harmony Cart will work in the 2600+ sort of giving the best of both worlds. I will be waiting until each has a solid "add to cart" or "in stock" before I even think about acquiring either.
@@capitanclassic8624 I have the real thing and an extensive cartrige collection want a better way than a retron 77 to play casually on a modern TV. Sounds like this isn't it.
@@thejunkman everything is emulation, unless you want to use an original Atari with F-Type Coax connection to a modern TV with an Antenna hookups. There is also the Atari FB2 that is an Atari-on-a-Chip which works with most games. Barring that, you can either use a regular PC with USB-To-DB9 connectors or one of the many emulation boxes. Many of the latter ones are hackable and run the latest Stella 2600 emulator, or other pre-Jaguar systems (at mostly full speed)
I have hundreds of original carts so I'm going with the + so i can hook it up to hdmi. I pre-order this in August and thanks for giving out the shipping date because I was wondering if it was even going to come out.
I have pre-ordered the 2600+. I have a bucketload of 2600 games. But trying to play them on a modern tv is a big challenge. It is very difficult to connect my Atari 7800 via tv antenna and then tune in an analogue channel on my smart tv. So being able to play all of my old cartridges via hdmi on a modern tv will be amazing
I'm just now catching up to your great review and comparison of these two Atari-based gaming systems. Wondering if you can also do a comparison of the Gamestation Pro to the Flashback Gold 50th unit that you presented about 10 months ago. Comparing list of installed games, controllers, and upgrade-ability to add games to either system would be appreciated. Thanks!
I have a genuine Atari 2600, with a few games like Berzerk, Adventure, Asteroids, River Raid, Yars Revenge and Gorf, just to name a few. So I'll get the Atari Gamestation Pro! Oh, by-the-way, my Atari 2600 is a SIX SWITCH version, also known as a "Heavy Six" due to the heavy RF shielding it has, along with those six switches!
Pre-ordered the Atari 2600+ on the day it launched, for a die hard Atari fan, one with about 130 carts, it was a no brainer. I was originally not interested in the GSP but knowing that it is able to be modded with the standard SD slot, and the possibility of using an Xbox controller, I might get one just to be able to play many other games with it. I'm hoping that I can try my other 3rd party controllers with it, some of which are wireless, to see which ones might work with that unit. Now I just need to find someone who has a Costco membership.
If someone was just looking into buying an Atari I would just say go online and find a lot deal. Get an original system in original box with a pile of games. The majority of the popular games are affordable. You can get a multi cart to play the rare / hacks / homebrews. The system in a nice box will never go down in value and you are playing them on the original hardware. I will probably get the 2600+ just to collect and put on the shelf.
I want a cartridge-based FPGA Atari Console, would love to see coleco and intelli added. Maybe collectorvision could Atari to their Phoenix System. Hardware emulation or hardware recreation. Or heck, let us dream, a Retron 5-like FPGA! It’s too bad the developer of the Atariman, “Crispy”, passed away last year. I hope this project is not lost….
As a retro collector I would lean towards the 2600+ since it’s compatible with my current cartridges and accessories. Not to mention the setup would be much easier and look better on a modern TV. My only concern would be the potential for slight lagging that other consoles of this type are known for.
I'm eager to get my hands on a 2600+ and test that very thing. Wired controllers are a plus, but there's always the potential for analog-to-digital latency.
If I was to purchase one of these, I would go with the GSP because of the price, ability to bring my own joystick and the SD card slot expand-ability. .
I think I commented already on this video, but for me I'm all about the consoles. Games on emulation are great, but for me, a big part of the fun is going to be swapping out carts, and feeling that original controller back in my hand... heck, I'll even welcome a callous on my right pinkey finger again (true Gen X gamers will know how this happens) .... as for arcade games, ill be building another M.A.M.E. cabinet soon... for me, how I'm playing is just as important as what I'm playing.
Great vid my friend! For me, the choice between these cool systems is easy. They're both emulator systems so some games may not work correctly or even work at all (Pitfall II 🤔). You want to play your original game carts on a system that looks and works a lot like the original with the original game controllers? The 2600+ is the system is for you guys. You want an all in one cool looking Atari branded emulator that you can add your own games to , is packed with VCS and various other Atari games, and comes with retro style wireless controllers plus allows you to use other controllers? The the Atari Gamestation Pro is the one for you.
I have a Raspberry Pi 4 that can emulate the Atari 2600, but at the end of the day, I much prefer my original Atari 2600 Jr over the Pi. I have several physical cartridges I picked up from a recent gaming convention, and if and when the time comes, the Atari 2600+ is the clear winner for me.
I’ll pass on both. 2600+ would be my pick, but my Harmony Cart will not work on it, so it makes no sense for me. I’m gonna buy a real VCS and mod it. I hope Tim Worthington comes with a replacement of his 2600RGB Board soon!
Great video as always! The big question for me is if Atari will either through themselves or 3rd party developers be creating new cartridge games for the 2600 +. If that’s the case and the GSP will not ever have the new games on the system than the 2600+ May have a huge advantage. I’ve heard some rumblings about this but haven’t seen confirmation yet.
I like to get both to be honest... The 2600+ is a perfect solution for playing my cart collection on a modern HDTV with actual joysticks and paddles. OTOH the Game station Pro is a better replacement for my Atari Flashback as it has more built in games and an SD slot for playing ROMs, which is important because the 2600+ doesn't have a SD slot or use Harmony carts. Plus they both use the same power and video cables so I can easily swap them...
IM leaning Gamestation Pro BUT, not to shill for Atgames I can get a Core Plus for 32 bucks and its more powerful, coinopsx is a breeze, but I do like Gamestation pro controls better and for 80 I'd do it.
I got game station pro and followed your video to setup sd card with extra games! What a deal, so much fun~ !
That is awesome!
Just got mine I’ll study all of your vids so I can modd it up I grabbed a couple micro sd card and a wired Xbox pad
Atari VCS owner, I have 2, and I pre ordered the 2600+ need a way to play those old carts! What a great time to be an Atari fan, they've really stepped it up lately. I hope it pays off for them
I'm sure those old cartridges will be compatible to that Atari console. Trust me
I'll end up getting both.
All makes sense. I hope you enjoy it! 😀
Everyone makes mistakes 😜
I think that if you already have a phisical collection of games you should go for the 2600+ otherwise the GSP seems to be the way to go.
Glad to hear you're enjoying it.
Fingers crossed!
There's also a Genesis controller that uses X-input available on Amazon... I ordered one for my GSP, but I got the controller before the console!
@@wolfshanze5980 Thanks for the tip! I never had a Genesis, but I like that button layout for these arcade games better than the Xbox. Let us know how that works out. I'm especially concerned that the button layout matches, and doesn't do something weird like swapping B and C. And don't forget the USB-A to USB-C adapter!
link please@@wolfshanze5980
@@CaptainZap79 Ya, for instance Arcade Missile Command (with three bases) would work better on the Sega controller with the A, B, C layout than either the GSP or X-Box controller would... just hoping it will turn up like that... and yes, I ordered a USB A to C adapter at same time... I have my MicroSD card, MicoSD USB adapter and my Genesis USB controllers all sitting on my desk... just no GSP to play it on yet! lolz.
@@wolfshanze5980it's a USB Sega Genesis Controller 🎮 ? How do you know if the compatible will work ?
Great video, John. I got a GSP at Costco for $80. Im enjoying it, but I was surprised by how much lag there is for both the joysticks and the paddles. It's very noticeable. Also, it didn't come with the checklist poster. I guess they had to cut costs somewhere. Im happy I bought it, though. My son and I are having a blast with it.
You can shut off the wireless on the included joysticks/paddle and plug them into the console directly with a USB-C cable to get rid of the lag.
@@justlou1000 Good to know. Thanks!
Very helpful! I have an original woodgrain console so I would say the Gamestation Pro will be in my future. Mostly for an affordable emulation device.
That'd be great!
I’m an Atari Addict: I pre-ordered them both!
Great video as always Jon and it makes my choice of which one to purchase a little clearer but I'm still not decided :-) Keep up the awesome work!
Getting both. 2600+ for carts with HDMI-out and the GSP for emulating arcade games, and some other systems, in an easy plug 'n play.
Solid video, thank you! I was looking for videos on the 2600+ and didn't even know about the Gamestation Pro! Now I don't know which to buy!!!
Oh, no! I didn't intend for my comparison to cause MORE confusion! 🤣
Thanks for the kind words, and best of luck with Santa! 🎅
Pre-ordered the 2600+. It’s $189 AU down here in Sydney. Cheers!
I'm glad you're enjoying your GSP and the channel. I appreciate you being here and watching! 😁
THANK YOU! Makes me feel I made the right choice. I was shopping both, but the GameStation Pro is the right choice for this GenX guy ;)
So here’s my challenge:
A mega Atari summary review that includes The 2600+, GSP, and not too long ago the 2600 50th mini classic console, the 50th Anv.
Thanks! It gives me something to think about.
04:38 Amazing faux wood controller, how in the world did I miss that.
It’s all about the Plus for me. I never even considered the alternative.
Excellent video. I've been curious about these, so thank you Jon for laying out the differences.
Glad to help. 😀
I love both consoles, but I’m all in with a 2600+! I cannot wait to open that box and plop in a game. the last Atari console I opened was the Lynx in 1989. I never thought I would see something like that ever again in my life.
Awesome video
Thanks!
I went with GSP. Loved it.
I only have 2 original 2600 game carts, so I preordered the Gamestation. Easier and cheaper than searching out more game carts
I've read about how the rubber boot over the joystick would age over time, and become stiff.@@wolfshanze5980
You couldn't have made this video before I ordered both because I couldn't decide??? That's cool. I still love your channel!
Sorry! 😁
I lost 3 Atari Jagwire's in a flood. I did happen to save 30 + games and 2 controllers. Anyone have a cheep deck for sell, hint.
Both are great but I'm more interested in the 2600+ because I'm also a Gen X Grown Up. :D Thanks for the video.
This video was very helpful. Thanks for providing content like this!
My pleasure!
Makes sense. Thanks for sharing your reasoning! 😀
No it will not. You are better off getting an AtGames Legends Flashback or an Atari Flashback X/50th anniversary.
The 2600+ sounds like a great recreation but the GSP has an SD card for adding games easily.
I have hundreds of original carts so I'm going with the + so i can hook it up to hdmi. I pre-order this in August and thanks for giving out the shipping date because I was wondering if it was even going to come out.
Nice job Jon. Love the shirt! Thanks for the content as I’m still trying to choose between the new Atari stuff.
You're definitely the right target for the 2600+... i'm sure it will address your needs!
Thanks!
I think the plus for me. I just like how it looks like my old console from the early eighties.
From what I understand, any controller that uses a wired USB Input-X will work with the GSP... if it's Input-D only, it will not work.
I’ll probably get both. One in November, the other in December.
I love the more modern renditions like Tempest 2k or 4K. What’s under the hood? Raspberry ? When playing arcade ports how is the sound?
Great video as always Jon. If I was going to get one it would be the GSP for me using my Xbox controller.
I still have my collection of 2600, 5200, and 7800 cartridge games, so I am getting both consoles.
I went with the Pro. Cannot wait for delivery. I dont understand the 10000 games video though as im slightly older than gen x
Plus composite, s-video, component, scart-rgb and hdmi-out, like the NT Mini…
The main consideration I had was price. Secondary was I only still have 3 cartridges 🤣
If I was to purchase one of these, I would go with the GSP because of the price, ability to bring my own joystick and the SD card slot expand-ability. .
Thankyou very informative a lot of food for thought.
Glad it was helpful!
I think the SD card slot on the GSP is a game changer for me. Unfortunately, it's not available in the UK so I will have to source an import.
I'm still saving for that last atari console
Great vid my friend! For me, the choice between these cool systems is easy. They're both emulator systems so some games may not work correctly or even work at all (Pitfall II 🤔). You want to play your original game carts on a system that looks and works a lot like the original with the original game controllers? The 2600+ is the system is for you guys. You want an all in one cool looking Atari branded emulator that you can add your own games to , is packed with VCS and various other Atari games, and comes with retro style wireless controllers plus allows you to use other controllers? The the Atari Gamestation Pro is the one for you.
Vintage heavy or light sixer, or four switcher is the only way to go.
