    Billy’s passing makes things even sadder. No one will be able to make this character come to life like he did. He will be greatly missed.

      @@ordinaryunits4341 I guess we should be grateful he was able to reprise his role one last time for Three Hopes. However, if DLC is announced or anymore Three Houses content is created, Ferdinand will need a new voice because objectively speaking, his role is too important to be silent.

    I went into the game thinking he'd be annoying, ended up loving him to death. I love his dynamic with Hubert. I think it's often overlooked that that conflict stems from the fact they actually both love Edelgard and put her on a pedestal,just in different ways. I mean he almost waves his tail like a puppy when she finally praises him. I loved his journey and found his belief in the nobility almost endearing. In the end he is the noblest of nobles but it stems from his heart not lineage.

      Same here, I thought he was going to be boring because his design didn't really catch my eye. I think you're right with how they express their love for Edelgard differently which is reflective of the key difference between the two. His genuine belief in the ideals of nobility is also really refreshing in the game because of how poor the nobility can look in the game due to the blatant corruption and unethical behavior.

      Hubert's devoution towards Edelgard seems to be based in two parts. His birthright (or birth-responsibility) to be aid to the next Emperor and his connection with her is one which stems from that. The other factor is him knowing that Edelgard's childhood was rough. In this, he likely both respects her but understands her pains & limitations. Its why, when he disagrees with her, its normally kept to himself and done with little tweeking of plans, so she doesn't have to worry about them. The only exceptions are the Edelgard-Hubert A support and the Hedgemond Husk, for obvious reasons.
      Contrast this with Ferdinand Von Aegir. He doesn't know of Edelgard's past or her burdens. He likely views their revivalry as something fun or positive. For Edelgard, its just another stress. Ferdinand Von Aegir doesn't see it this way, because he has built up as to be his endgoal to eventually surpass. Sympathy and perceived agency towards another are not well correlated.

    It’s was really depressing for me when I heard him realize that he’s inferior to Edelguard...
    Especially because he was over 10 levels above her at the time...

      You really are the noblest of nobles... It's no wonder you're so difficult to recruit outside of the Black Eagles, there aren't many who are truly worthy of your greatness

    Great video. I always loved Ferdinand and think he is the perfect example of a lawful good alignment. Lawful of course to his own values and what he considers nobility to be like. Good... well, Hilda support

      Definitely, he really tries to live up to the ideals of nobility in contrast to his father and serves as a pretty good counter balance to Edelgard in the black eagles route.

    Billy and Ferdinand are two people which are able to bring light into other people’s lives, even if they may not see it in themselves. Rest in Peace, Billy. You gave it your all and continue to inspire people to be better

    These videos are really well done! I just watched the Felix and Edelgard ones, and now I'm watching this one. I want to watch them all!
    I didn't think I'd like Ferdinand, but like every character in Three Houses, I was surprised at how much depth he had. Now he's one of my faves! I love how when he apologizes to Bernie, he does it through the door. It's a nice visual way to show that he doesn't want to push her out of her comfort zone. I also like that he's one of the few characters to point out that Edelgard's plans have flaws. I wish Edelgard elaborated more on her plans in her route.

      Thanks, I appreciate you saying so! I really think the game's characters is one of the things that really makes the game great. Yeah I like how he serves as a foil to Edelgard and Hubert because of his outlook and beliefs as well. I actually have some videos discussing the endings of each route called the Fate of Fodlan series feel free to check them out if you haven't already!

    Three Hopes confirms Ferdinand's version of events in his meeting with Dorothea, as he confesses the story to Edelgard, not having ever put the pieces together that the girl he saw was Dorothea. Dorothea overhears this and realizes that she hated him for nothing whatsoever.
    He also has some of his best character moments in Three Hopes. His support with Lysithea there is some of the most poignant writing that's ever been done in a Fire Emblem game, aa ia the entire arc involving his father (which makes Azure Gleam's cheap writing off of him, Hubert, and Monica to make Edelgard an unwitting villain that much more despicable).

      I agree there were some great character moments in three hopes. Ferdinand was definitely one of the best serrved characters from the extra screentime and development. I was definitley pleasantly surprised by the quality of the character writing in it.

      Get Marianne. Teach her frozen Lance and Soulblade. Go from bishop to holy knight. Great and extremely underrated healing and offensive unit. Aura with over 30 crit

    • @ordinaryunits4341
      @ordinaryunits4341  3 года назад +4

      Yeah holy knight isn't optimal, but I thought it looked cool, so I decided to basically build byleth to be a holy knight to mix it up and it went well even if other classes are way better.

    Whenever I played Black eagles Edelgarde just kinda sucks. Her accuracy is trash which can be fixed with hit +20 but it still isn't enough. She has raging storm but I dunno I feel like she misses too often. Ferdie always surpasses her some how. Maybe I'm just biased to like orange haired character

  • @basilofgoodwishes4138
    @basilofgoodwishes4138 3 года назад +4

    I don't view him as an Great Character at all. His entire battle with Edelgard is one-sided and misguided, because as Prime Minister he would have never the power to overthrow Edelgard and never had or rather should have desired to usurp her with his Father and become an antagonist in her route if certain criteria are not met.
    Him being this arrogant, but rational noble has this condescending heir that is even more disingenuous than Lorenz, who is designed to mock Ferdinand's character. Even him suggesting public Education has this condescending idea that great men and not the people can bring change and with an Meritocracy, this system will still help nobles more than it does them bad.
    To me, the whole feud between Hubert and Ferdinand sounds more like an conflict between Freedom and competition vs Control and Manipulation which would be really cool, if Hubet wasn't such an simpering tool for Edelgard, making him less Human and more of an darker version of Jar Jar binks.
    Ferdinand has still a lot of good qualities and has one of the funniest line sin the game: I AM FERDINAND OF AEGIR!!!
    He could have been better, had he been more antagonistic towards Edelgard and been a bit more vain rather than it being an small quirk of his, like how Lysithea gets coddled by the writers.
    Another reason I don't find Ferdinand from Aegir that compelling or interesting is the fact that we gave Lorenz in there, who is him, but better written and he looks worse than Ferdinand, which is somehow an bonus, because we don't need every character to look hot.

    • @ordinaryunits4341
      @ordinaryunits4341  3 года назад +13

      I agree with everything you pointed out about Ferdinand, but I actually like his character for the same reasons you think he isn't that great. His personal philosophy on living up to your full potential and living in a 'noble' way is something I can get behind and I like the fact that he's unable to hold a candle to Edelgard because it creates an internal conflict where he can't align his ideal self with reality and has to accept it. I do wish he there were points, like in say the silver snow route, where he becomes more involved and more antagonistic towards Edelgard like you said, but overall I think he's a pretty cool character. Thanks for your comment!

      @@ordinaryunits4341 I think he is an good character and a funny one, but he isn't not really great, but that is just my opinion.
      Who is your next candidate? Lorenz? BIGNATZ? Or even Manuela or Hanneman? Personally I would like to see an video for Catherine or Ashe,because there are some interesting things about Justice, duty vs friends, forgiveness and the such.

      This was an unfortunate take three years ago and is still a bad take now. Ferdinand isn't trying to overthrow Edelgard, but surpass her in terms of ability so that he can prove his use to her. He's aware that she's been surrounded by useless and corrupt nobles for most of her life.
      He also actively supports his comrades, and though he comes off as a bit clueless at first, he takes the time to come to understand them. He's one of the only characters who displays character growth in every single support chain he has (except perhaps Flayn, but the B and A supports are about Flayn being thirsty anyway) even the ones that only go up to a B support.
