God I love Ferdinand von Aegir! He can easily be misunderstood at first, but he's actually a softie with really noble ideals. Some of his A supports are some of the best writing in this game and his VA is exceptional as well.
His Marianne support was this for me to a tee. I went from "Wow what gave you that idea you idiot!" When he he mentioned that maybe just maybe she didn't care for her nobility to ensuring they ended together when he started talking about how everyone has a purpose even if that's just making others happy. And that line about accepting the way things are and moving forward rather than despairing. It's a good life lesson. And something I feel I personally needed to hear.
OH Boy! Sexy Orange Alucard did it! He beated Edelgard to First Spotlight 😭. I really loved Ferdinand in the Path against Edelgard, as he became sort of good leader as he was one of the first to take the fight to Edelgard, and got a little , Just a little more humble as he admited being weaker than Edelgard... But he still is Ferdinand Von Aegir The perfect Noble!
He is great in both ... while he is a bit more in the background in Edelgards path ... the support where proposes a system of education to replace nobility is great also when El basically admits that she values him because he is not afraid to challenge her options and be a tempering influence on her.
I love this character and I felt the same way about Ferdinand when I played the game. A lot of people have instant hate for people who are born wealthy or with privilege, but that doesn't mean those people are bad or don't care about the lower class. I feel like that's who ferdinand was, he was that guy showing you shouldn't hate someone for the way they were born, he's a super nice character who cares for his classmates and friends. I especially loved his conversations with Marianne due to her insecurities and his high confidence, he gave a lot of positive encouragement and support for her and he never gave up on her, it was really sweet to see.

I can't help to notice similarities between the four saints and those who inherit their crests. In this case, both Seteth and Ferdinand are overbearing at times (protecting Flayn / winning against Edelgard). They also like to work hard, lecture people, aim for advisory roles, and fight as mounted units.
Bernie is as shy as Indech, for example, and i don't really understand why saint Maculi (i don't remember how to spell it) is that related to Claude, like, even the sword of Begalta is linked to the Riegan crest...

@@carsonc5576 I don't think it works with the time-skip story. I feel that it doesn't allow the characters to fully develop. Take Bernadetta for example, since I think she's one of the characters who suffers the most from it. She's characterized as someone who always locks herself in her room and often gets frightened for even the smallest or most ridiculous reasons, which makes her C supports annoying to read. Sure, while she gets better in her A supports (which are unlocked post-timeskip), all of that character growth is immediately regressed once you unlock another one of her C or B supports. See what I mean? Characters aren't allowed to completely change or grow, since once they unlock some of their supports post-time skip then all progression is just flushed down the toilet.

Besides I think it's just unreasonable to spend renown just to fix issues with supports. And if we all know that the time skip won't flawlessly work well with the support mechanic, then don't you think IS should come up with another system entirely? And even if we do ignore chronological contradictions (which doesn't change the fact that this problem will still be there to begin with), it doesn't change the issue that some characters won't be allowed to change too much after the 5 year time skip since the current support system won't allow them to stray too far from who they once were in the academy phase.
@@omr032004 The only system I could think that still fits the current gameplay is to have two sets of C-B-A supports that don't directly relate to each other, but that would come at the cost of development time that would either make the supports more shallow or cut content from the routes like how Crimson Flower seems
Ooh, nice transitions and intro stills. Great character choice. Ferdinand might be my favorite BE student. I don't think I thought of him as snobby on initial impression. As I went GD first, I got to know Lorenz. I was genuinely interested in how Ferdinand treated it compared to Lorenz who... ahem... is actively seeking a wife in the worst way possible. (I do like Lorenz to an extent but his pre-timeskip impression could be summed up as one big, giant OOF). People have done this spectrum comparison between Ferdinand, Lorenz, and Sylvain, which is cool because they all have different stances on the concept of nobility and are from separate houses. I'm utter Sylvain trash and would like to see a spotlight of him next; however, I wouldn't mind seeing Edelgard or Rhea for your opinion on their motives.
In my Blue Lions run I was able to stack enough avoid that final boss had a 0 hit rate against my swordmaster Ferdinand. Favorite character hands down in the game, he is truly the nobelist of nobles
Someone so versatile is probably worth a four. I'd also in future spotlights you briefly go over spells and combat arts that are especially useful. For example Ferdinand has swift strike which can make all lances brave weapons.
Ferdinand's voice actor is what really helped win him over. If Ferdinand gets critically injured, he says a line like "I'll fight to the very last!" and it's said with such a passion I fell in love with him. Really excellent take on the haughty noble archetype
You really did Ferdinand justice with this spotlight Mangs! I especially love the personality section. Not only did you described Ferdinand's confident idealistic character very well, but also how he affects and surprises other characters like Dorthea, Edgelgard, and even the player with his softer character traits. It is a shame that you weren't able to play Ferdinand's paralogue (it's one of my favorites) because of route you played. It really looks into his father more, and puts more depth in Ferdinand's character. Regardless It was a great watch and it really made me day! ^.^
I think the turning point for me was with his support with Hubert. It was a clash between two characters I found very flawed at first but Ferdinand ultimately brought a lot of good points to the table and justified his stand in my eyes. Which was surprising as I didn't think he put that much thought into his actions prior to this. It showed a level of self awareness that I didn't think he was capable of and it only snowballed from their. He's easily amongst my top 5 characters.

Hey mangs The only benefit to Ferdinand using the Spear of Assal over someone else is just the higher HP heal. The weapon effectiveness is intrinsic to the spear. Also, Ferdinand is a godlike War Master. He's ridiculous as a War Master. War master buffs his str and speed to obscene levels. Or you could run him Wyvern, he's legitimately top tier as a wyvern.
Wyverns are overpowered in general alongside war masters so thats a given. Really fliers are way to strong in 3 houses and have no downsides since their weakness to bows is negated by the shield or by dismounting and only losing 1 stat to stats which will never make a difference
My favorite character so far. Also, he got a spotlight on my birthday, how about that, awesome! That aside I actually had a very similar experience with ferdinand (Not getting speed screwed per se), where I thought he was a passable unit and character with little depth or room for investment, yet... At some point, around the time I got Dorothea's B support with him, not only did I personally open up to him, but he singlehandedly began tearing through enemies with such effeciency that I actually had to reclass him to a Hero just to tame him so other units got some action. And even then, he always performed well. I genuinely enjoy his presence, and although I am playing through the Golden Deer now, I am planing on recruiting him and some of his other support partners. How I will go about acttually aquiring him... Well I'll figure it out. (Might already have it in the bag)
Putting Ferdinand on a horse is a trap, as far as I am concerned. Why lower his speed growth on a horse when you can instead raise it and give him ten extra avoid on top of that by putting him on a wyvern? I suppose the same could be said of any character in the game, but this is especially true for Ferdinand considering his personal skill.
ferdie is one of my favourite (if not my absolute favourite) characters in the game. he's already the type of character i love, but i also loved how well he subverts expectations. so often we associate noble confidence with arrogant, selfish, unsympathetic tendencies--but that's exactly what ferdie is not. every time i witnessed his supports and did his support battles, my heart melted a little more. he's wholesome, a good person, and a complete gift.
Ferdinand became my favourite from the start. Heck I decided I liked him before the game even came out. Always take the opportunity to have some tea with him. Love him so much and #FerdinandforFEH :3
I still don’t get mangs’ feelings that a character has to be like able from the beginning it would be kind of dull if every character was like that learning more about characters you didn’t like before is very rewarding imo
Glad to see these videos come back! I just made Ferdinand a Paladin on my LP on my channel and he’s actually doing really well. You should look at Dorothea next! She has such an awesome personality and has become one of the best magical units in my party.
I really like Ferdinand and Hubert's supports, they start off on opposite ends showing off what is expected of them but then as time passes it feels as though they merge in their ideas filling in what they have with what the other doesn't, and eventually arriving at mutual respect and understanding.
I think you should mention the skills they learn through weapon ranks as they vary with character, with some exceptions. Since combat arts like swift strikes makes ferdinand combat go up exponentially it deserves to be mentioned.
Ferdinand was my longest project to date. He didn't reach his end goal for me until Chapter 16 on the Black Eagles Strike Force route. He grabbed his budding talent Seal Speed first, before focusing on flying and axes. This was necessary for him to get Seal Defense from Wyvern Rider. His ultimate placement, however, was Bow Knight. So instructing him was very complicated, and he managed Bow Knight at 70%, for which I was grateful for. The ideal being he can debuff enemies from great distances and Canto to safety. He was always useful, but he really came together as the Bow Knight. It was also really satisfying to get him there. I imagine with the harder difficulties that will release, this kind of build will be incredibly valuable.
I used to be so confused why Ferdinand was your first character character spotlight. After collecting all his supports, he actually became my favourite character.
I liked the spotlight. All the black eagle students feel a little tricky to spotlight since there are so many different situations to view them from. Looking forward to the next one. Dorothea, maybe?
Great video! I love Ferdinand so much, he really grew on me and i like his early one-noteness. He was a young Noble at school so it fits in my opinion. And it hurts when you didn't choose BE but recruit Dorothea and not him...
Ferdinand as the hero class with high speed and luck, his personal skill, sword avoid +20 from winning the heron cup, sword prowess level 5 which is another 20 avoid, the Brigid hunters battalion another 20 avoid and finally an evasion ring which gives 10 avoid gave this guy a total of like 130+ avoid and I warped him to the final boss in the silver snow route and nobody had a hit chance higher than 0%. He effectively soloed the entire map and was the MVP for my entire playthrough. 10/10 unit, he's invincible with this build.

@@omr032004 The only system I could think that still fits the current gameplay is to have two sets of C-B-A supports that don't directly relate to each other, but that would come at the cost of development time that would either make the supports more shallow or cut content from the routes like how Crimson Flower seems

Ferdinand might be my favorite BE student. I don't think I thought of him as snobby on initial impression. As I went GD first, I got to know Lorenz. I was genuinely interested in how Ferdinand treated it compared to Lorenz who... ahem... is actively seeking a wife in the worst way possible. (I do like Lorenz to an extent but his pre-timeskip impression could be summed up as one big, giant OOF). People have done this spectrum comparison between Ferdinand, Lorenz, and Sylvain, which is cool because they all have different stances on the concept of nobility and are from separate houses.
I'm utter Sylvain trash and would like to see a spotlight of him next; however, I wouldn't mind seeing Edelgard or Rhea for your opinion on their motives.

In my Blue Lions run I was able to stack enough avoid that final boss had a 0 hit rate against my swordmaster Ferdinand. Favorite character hands down in the game, he is truly the nobelist of nobles

I'd hold off on Flayn and Seteth for a bit. As there's some spoilers involved with them.
Someone so versatile is probably worth a four. I'd also in future spotlights you briefly go over spells and combat arts that are especially useful. For example Ferdinand has swift strike which can make all lances brave weapons.
Brave weapons that cannot double. That's an important thing to keep in mind.
This dude is such a cool guy. I genuinely think he might be my favorite student in fe3h. So damn likable.
Ferdinand's voice actor is what really helped win him over. If Ferdinand gets critically injured, he says a line like "I'll fight to the very last!" and it's said with such a passion I fell in love with him. Really excellent take on the haughty noble archetype
You really did Ferdinand justice with this spotlight Mangs! I especially love the personality section. Not only did you described Ferdinand's confident idealistic character very well, but also how he affects and surprises other characters like Dorthea, Edgelgard, and even the player with his softer character traits. It is a shame that you weren't able to play Ferdinand's paralogue (it's one of my favorites) because of route you played. It really looks into his father more, and puts more depth in Ferdinand's character.
Regardless It was a great watch and it really made me day! ^.^

I think the turning point for me was with his support with Hubert. It was a clash between two characters I found very flawed at first but Ferdinand ultimately brought a lot of good points to the table and justified his stand in my eyes. Which was surprising as I didn't think he put that much thought into his actions prior to this. It showed a level of self awareness that I didn't think he was capable of and it only snowballed from their. He's easily amongst my top 5 characters.

Unless you mean which ones are bad, then I'd have to say.... I'm not sure. They are a tad repetitive but I don't think it hurts her character to be consistent.
She has other good supports too like Sylvain, Alois, and Seteth that start strong and end strong.

The only benefit to Ferdinand using the Spear of Assal over someone else is just the higher HP heal. The weapon effectiveness is intrinsic to the spear.
Also, Ferdinand is a godlike War Master. He's ridiculous as a War Master. War master buffs his str and speed to obscene levels. Or you could run him Wyvern, he's legitimately top tier as a wyvern.
Wyverns are overpowered in general alongside war masters so thats a given. Really fliers are way to strong in 3 houses and have no downsides since their weakness to bows is negated by the shield or by dismounting and only losing 1 stat to stats which will never make a difference

That aside I actually had a very similar experience with ferdinand (Not getting speed screwed per se), where I thought he was a passable unit and character with little depth or room for investment, yet...
At some point, around the time I got Dorothea's B support with him, not only did I personally open up to him, but he singlehandedly began tearing through enemies with such effeciency that I actually had to reclass him to a Hero just to tame him so other units got some action.
And even then, he always performed well. I genuinely enjoy his presence, and although I am playing through the Golden Deer now, I am planing on recruiting him and some of his other support partners. How I will go about acttually aquiring him... Well I'll figure it out. (Might already have it in the bag)

Putting Ferdinand on a horse is a trap, as far as I am concerned. Why lower his speed growth on a horse when you can instead raise it and give him ten extra avoid on top of that by putting him on a wyvern? I suppose the same could be said of any character in the game, but this is especially true for Ferdinand considering his personal skill.

ferdie is one of my favourite (if not my absolute favourite) characters in the game. he's already the type of character i love, but i also loved how well he subverts expectations. so often we associate noble confidence with arrogant, selfish, unsympathetic tendencies--but that's exactly what ferdie is not. every time i witnessed his supports and did his support battles, my heart melted a little more. he's wholesome, a good person, and a complete gift.
Ferdinand became my favourite from the start. Heck I decided I liked him before the game even came out. Always take the opportunity to have some tea with him. Love him so much and #FerdinandforFEH :3
I still don’t get mangs’ feelings that a character has to be like able from the beginning it would be kind of dull if every character was like that learning more about characters you didn’t like before is very rewarding imo

I really like Ferdinand and Hubert's supports, they start off on opposite ends showing off what is expected of them but then as time passes it feels as though they merge in their ideas filling in what they have with what the other doesn't, and eventually arriving at mutual respect and understanding.

I think you should mention the skills they learn through weapon ranks as they vary with character, with some exceptions. Since combat arts like swift strikes makes ferdinand combat go up exponentially it deserves to be mentioned.

Ferdinand was my longest project to date. He didn't reach his end goal for me until Chapter 16 on the Black Eagles Strike Force route. He grabbed his budding talent Seal Speed first, before focusing on flying and axes. This was necessary for him to get Seal Defense from Wyvern Rider. His ultimate placement, however, was Bow Knight. So instructing him was very complicated, and he managed Bow Knight at 70%, for which I was grateful for. The ideal being he can debuff enemies from great distances and Canto to safety. He was always useful, but he really came together as the Bow Knight. It was also really satisfying to get him there. I imagine with the harder difficulties that will release, this kind of build will be incredibly valuable.

Should've saved this one for April Fool's and just mentioned that he's a Noble in varying ways
Ferdinand as the hero class with high speed and luck, his personal skill, sword avoid +20 from winning the heron cup, sword prowess level 5 which is another 20 avoid, the Brigid hunters battalion another 20 avoid and finally an evasion ring which gives 10 avoid gave this guy a total of like 130+ avoid and I warped him to the final boss in the silver snow route and nobody had a hit chance higher than 0%. He effectively soloed the entire map and was the MVP for my entire playthrough. 10/10 unit, he's invincible with this build.
