If you're interested in our evangelical scholar's analysis of this moment, read below: Could Jesus Pray for Judas Iscariot? SHORT ANSWER: Yes, Jesus could pray for Judas Iscariot. There is no logical contradiction in the idea of Jesus praying for Judas, and there is no indication in Scripture that Jesus would somehow have been prevented from praying for Judas (or any other sinner). LONG ANSWER: Treating several questions related to this main question. Did Jesus pray for others? We know that Jesus prayed while on earth (e.g., Matt. 14:23; 26:36-44; Mark 1:35; 6:46; 14:32-39; Luke 3:21; 5:16; 6:12; 9:18, 28-29; 11:1; 22:39-45; John 17:1-26; Heb. 5:7). Furthermore, it seems clear enough that Jesus prayed for other people, with examples that include him praying for children (Matt. 19:13-15); apparently for a demon-possessed person (Mark 9:14-29); for Peter (Luke 22:31-34); for his immediate followers (John 17:6-26), for the people who were crucifying him (Luke 23:34), and even for those of us who would become his followers later on (John 17:20-26). Moreover, Jesus is currently praying for believers (Rom. 8:34; Heb. 7:25). Significant here is that Luke reports that Jesus spent the night in prayer before selecting the men who would be apostles (Luke 6:12-16); it would be odd to suggest that Jesus prayed about eleven of the twelve but did not pray about Judas. If Jesus and the Father are the same, they share the same will, so how could Jesus pray for Judas? This question has three difficulties, each worth treating on its own. a) First, the question begins by accidentally sliding into heretical thinking, that is, assuming that Jesus and the Father are "the same." While Jesus and the Father are one and the same God, they are not the same person. This is the mystery of the Trinity. The Father is God, and Jesus is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. But the Father is not the Son, and the Son is not the Spirit, and the Spirit is not the Father. The three persons of the one God are distinct. The Father did not die for our sins; Jesus did. The Holy Spirit did not become incarnate; Jesus did. b) Second and similarly, the question does not recognize that it is equivocating (i.e., subtly changing the meaning) on the definition of the word "will." While Jesus and the Father share the same "will" in one sense of that word, it is evident that they don't have the same "will" in another sense of that word. This becomes clear when Jesus himself makes a distinction between his will and the Father’s will, which he does in the Garden of Gethsemane while praying(!) (see Matt. 26:36-44; Mark 14:32-39; and Luke 22:39-45). Apparently it is entirely possible for the sinless human will of Jesus to give expression in prayer about a sinless natural desire (like health and safety), and this will of Jesus must ultimately be sacrificed for a greater purpose (i.e., providing salvation for humanity). Perhaps this kind of distinction is behind Jesus's own comment in John 5:30, "I do not seek my own will, but the will of him who sent me." The important christological discussion regarding the two natures of Jesus is not the only distinction. This also surfaces the important theological topic of differentiations of “God’s will” in Scripture. Note for example, that "God our Savior ... desires [i.e., one word for "wills"] all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:3-4) and that “the Lord ... is patient toward you, not wishing [i.e., another word for "willing"] that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). But God “wishing/desiring/willing” that no one will perish does not guarantee that all will believe. While he certainly could if he wanted to, it is evident that God does not always override human free will to bring about what he "wants." c) This brings me to the third sub-point here: prayer is not magic words. Just like any of the rest of us, when Jesus prays, he is not casting a spell that makes things happen exactly as he prays. That is not what prayer is. It is a mistake for us to assume that “the prayer of a righteous person” (cf. James 5:16) gets whatever they ask for as if prayer were like speaking a magic spell; that’s not how the verse in James 5 reads. And the story about the seven sons of Sceva in Acts 19:11-20 warns against praying “in Jesus’s name” as if it were some formula for getting what we want. It is not necessary to suggest that Jesus could pray “about” Judas without praying “for” Judas, as if Judas’s free will would have been destroyed had Jesus prayed “for” him. If that were the case, why wouldn’t Jesus simply pray his magic words “for” every single person in the whole world so that everyone would be saved? Furthermore, we see Jesus expressly say that he had prayed for Peter (Luke 22:31-34), and it apparently was a prayer that did not prevent Peter from sinning but was nevertheless answered in Peter’s repentance. It would be odd to claim that Peter was the only one of his followers for whom Jesus prayed, or to press it further, to suggest that Jesus prayed for all his followers except Judas. That would again be suggesting that prayers-esp. Jesus’s prayers-are something like magic spells that overpoweringly make things happen. In other words, Jesus could pray for Judas without making it automatic that Judas be saved. Was Judas ever (or never) a believer? This is a good question, but I'm not sure it really matters to any of us now (!). Judas Iscariot was definitely numbered among the twelve apostles (Matt. 10:1-4; Mark 3:13-19; Luke 6:12-16; John 6:70-71), so he was clearly a "follower" of Jesus. Of course, we know that he was not always behaving in a forthright way during those years of following Jesus (e.g., John 12:4-6). Nevertheless, he apparently believed something about Jesus enough to follow him for a few years. But he most famously betrayed Jesus and was replaced as an apostle because he defected from the faith (Acts 1:12-26). Those of an Arminian theological bent might like to argue that Judas was a believer who then gave up his belief; those of Calvinistic theological convictions might like to argue that Judas never was a true believer. To me, it matters little. Perhaps Judas is the quintessential example of false belief, i.e., a person who poses as a disciple but is ultimately not one, and there are other false believers mentioned in the New Testament (e.g., like Simon Magus in Acts 8:9-24; and the people against Jesus in 1 John 2:18-19). But my point here is that there is no need to try to determine the eternal fate of Judas Iscariot as if that would somehow help us recognize any further that he is not a model for any of us to look up to. That is already clear enough. Was Jesus praying for Judas in John 17? Maybe not, but that is different than saying that Jesus never prayed for Judas. The prayer Jesus prayed in John 17 was not his only prayer, and his statement "I am not praying for the world" (v. 9) is certainly not a pledge to have never ever prayed for the world. After all, Jesus died for the world so that the world could be saved (John 3:16), for the world being saved is what God wants (1 Tim. 2:4; 2 Peter 3:9). So, John 17:9 is not proof that Jesus never ever prayed for Judas or anyone else in "the world"--it is simply a statement that Jesus was praying specifically for his followers in John 17. It seems odd to utilize John 17 to suggest that Jesus would never pray for unbelievers even though he was willing to die for unbelievers. Moreover, the New Testament gives us an example of Jesus praying for unbelievers while he was dying on the cross (Luke 23:34). If Jesus could pray for unbelievers while they were crucifying him it seems that Jesus could pray for Judas even while Judas was planning to betray him. Could Jesus pray to God the Father asking for Judas Iscariot to not betray him? Why not? In a sense, Jesus's prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane might be said to have entailed just such a wish. Notice what Jesus prayed: “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me" (Matt. 26:39a). Jesus's request to have "this cup" of suffering pass from him might well have included Judas's betrayal not happening. But Jesus submits to the bigger plan and prays, "Yet not as I will, but as you will” (Matt. 26:39b). And in God's way of doing things whereby he maintains sovereign control over all even while humans exercise free will, God allows Judas's free choice to betray Jesus, which moves ahead the means of salvation for humanity through Jesus's suffering and resurrection.
Well if judas would of changed his mind then who would of done the dirty deed second judas was never truly saved to begin with no different than many so called Christians today could judas of changed his mind after he betrayed jesus yes and jesus would of forgave him.
Judas may have had a last minute salvation, even then Jesus Y’Shua would still forgive Judas. YHVH’s plan had to be played out specifically according to prophecy.
For the record, I love The Chosen. My wife and I have been watching it every night and are now coming to the end of Season 3. I just want to say that nothing in this world is perfect, but you guys have done an amazing job. It’s as lifelike and brilliant as one could hope for. In my ministry, I face controversy daily-it’s to be expected. With over 47,000 denominations today, controversy is inevitable. I understand that you’ve added some creative elements to the show that aren’t explicitly in the Bible, aiming to bring out the humanity of the story. Personally, I think the show is heartfelt and worthy. In my opinion, it has the potential to renew many people’s faith and even bring people to Yeshua. I’m a heavy studier of the Scriptures. While I believe the Trinity is a concept influenced by pagan ideas and can be proven incorrect biblically, I understand your intent to remain true to the overarching message. For example, phrases like "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do" were not part of the original manuscripts. Still, you’ve done your best, and the message is strong, even if some errors exist. The King James Version, for instance, contains added texts that have caused confusion about concepts like the Trinity. As many know, 1 John 5:7 was not in the original manuscripts and has misled people about the chapter’s original meaning. Similarly, added texts can sometimes obscure the truth, such as the example where Yeshua didn’t actually say, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." Despite these issues, the central message is what truly matters: salvation is for all. It is a gift from our Heavenly Father, and we are called to repent and follow Yeshua’s example. Today, the confusion caused by so many differing interpretations has diluted the basic message. Even foundational truths, like the one true Sabbath, have been distorted and misunderstood, though I find them to be very clear in Scripture. The Chosen is amazing, but remember, we are called to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Don’t be disheartened if some things in the show aren’t perfect. The overall message is incredible and a blessing to many.
In the bible it literally says that Jesus prayed. End of story. Keep doing you, Dallas. The Chosen family is fantastic and your team is phenomenal! This show brings so much peace and love and happiness to multitudes.
Whaaaaaat is this. Christmas is when Christ was born in Bethlehem. Guys I get your Santa Claus. But this is just something. We don’t have any Santa Claus, we have little baby Jesus that brings gifts to our children in December. Heloooooo? Christmas has none to do? Bro. Set your records straight
This makes me so sad. That scene was so beautiful. It made me realize I am Judas coming to Jesus with my unmet expectations. They are focusing on the wrong things.
I love that you address these issues that are brought up even tho you don’t have to. As you acknowledge, you have many learned folks who speak to these issues and give you additional guidance. The Chosen is a tv show that has blessed me immensely and brought me back to my Bible over and over! Thank you and I am praying for you and your family!
Peter was DESTINED to become the Rock on which Messiah would build His Church... (Matthew 16:18) and for that reason when Messiah prayed for Peter...it was according to the WILL of the FATHER... (Luke 22:32). Judas on the other hand was destined to become the Betrayer...(John 6:70) and Messiah will NEVER PRAY against the Father's Will...(John 17:12) You people really need to learn to join the right dots!!! This is leading people astray!
I'm just shaking my head and rolling my eyes. People are looking for reasons to try and discredit the show and will make things up in an attempt to achieve their goal. It's sad how so many people have lost the ability to think, reason, and discern. A majority of the issues people have with the show fall into this category. The "problem" with the show is it challenges peoples pre-conceived ideas and beliefs. They do not and refuse to think outside the box, outside of their beliefs. Dallas & Co, PLEASE keep doing what you're doing. God is using it to truly change lives.
JESUS did live between the lines, not every second of HIS life is recorded!!! Go with God Dallas, that's the only approval you need. 🙏 Do not be discouraged 🙏. Millions have found JESUS through your GOD inspired series! Don't stop! 🙏
Exactly I saw Twitter posts saying "we warned you about this show" and then when I watched the scene I was ???? warned about what!? That they would portray Jesus' unshakeable love and compassion for others even when they plan to betray or hurt Him? Because that's exactly what Jesus's nature is and the Father desires for no one to perish. So I was so confused, they did a perfect job and I am annoyed by how many people just want to pick at the show and ruin its reputation for no reason. What does it say about their spirits that they want to destroy a show that has been converting tens of thousands to Christ? So weird...
I actually loved that Jesus said He would pray for Judas. He was Jesus, Son of God. He loved Judas. Even though He knew what Judas was going to do, He still loved Him. Thank you, Dallas and your whole team, for all the hard work and for helping me to understand the Holy Bible. It was such a heavy scene for me to watch with Judas, but it helped me see and realize all the suffering Jesus went through even before the cross. That scene you showed was so powerful and heavy, and Im so thankful I got to watch it. The Lord wants us to pray for all. That doesn't mean only certain people or don't pray for people who upset you. Pray for All. I want to have faith like my Jesus. Where I pray for all, even those who hate me, call me names. Thank you and May the Lord Bless you all.
amy_loves_the_chosen, I agree with you! And I believe the devil has reared his ugly head to try to discourage people from the Gospel! Love "The Chosen"!!! ❤❤❤
I can believe that Jesus could pray for Judas to have God's peace over him, for about what the choice was that he was considering making & would do, in, actually, God's service, to fulfill what Jesus came to be with us, to do, for our salvation. 🤲🙏🫶
I like the conversation in the controversy. The struggle is real and a conversation about Jesus the Son and God the Father is always good. I will never understand everything written in the Bible, but the discussion draws me closer to my Creator. Thank you for the conversation starter Dallas. God will use it all. God is in control and I trust God. Amen
I'm using The Chosen and controversies to further study and understand Jesus and His work on earth. But I don't appreciate the over-reaction of some to the point that they call Dallas a heretic?
Dallas, you absolutely did not get this wrong! Remember our role…loaves and fishes…keep doing what you’re doing! May God continue to bless you and The Chosen 🙏
He definitely got it wrong. It is an unbiblical scene. The derision here is why this series is so dangerous. The Word of God is all we need. Not made up scenes for the benefit of Hollywood. This scene and its dialogue are not found in Scripture. WAKE UP Christians.
@@nickma71 judas was not a devil as he first followed Jesus. The devil did temp him an he was sorry afterwards. Don't think a devil would hang himself.
@@andrewjoyce7374 I can. I recommend you study scripture. Or repent if you think this is a "gotcha", which doesn't work with those who rightly divide. Jesus came as the messiah of Israel. He will unite the divided kingdom, take away the sin of the nation, rule from Jerusalem, and restore them. This is prophecy. It was in the open. Dying for sin was hidden in scripture. God says it in the Bible, through his spokesmen (prophets again). When Jesus told them he was going to be delivered up, the meaning was hidden from them by God. It had to be hidden. Are you following along? I will continue.
I dont see many other TV series creators having to explain thier decisions as much as you do. Peopl need be thankful for all you and everyone involed put into this. Thank you
Dallas, I thought that scene between Jesus and Judas was awesome. I believe Jesus prays for us all. Jesus created us all. I am so looking forward to Season Five of The Chosen. I keep re- watching The Chosen seasons 1-4 over and over. I Love The Chosen! Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Yeat.
Fortunately God is more merciful than most Christians (and I’m including myself in that). He sent Jesus to save everyone and not one of us fully understands every nuance of free will vs God’s foreknowledge, fulfilling His purpose etc….and that includes Dallas and the writers of this show. I thank God for the work all involved in The Chosen are doing. ❤
@@Faithinj Perfectly stated. The Chosen draws me to Jesus, I can feel the Spirit instructing and calming my soul with the loving, merciful Jesus who died for everyone. Every one. The show draws me to Jesus, these arguments make me want to run for the hills away from “ Christians”.
@ I totally understand yet Jesus teaches us that loving God and others are the foundation of all the commandments-all the law is summed up in loving and forgiving one another. It’s not easy to do, impossible without His grace really, but we’ve got to remember we’re all messed up in this world 😂 that’s why we need Him. 🤍 love to you!
@@Faithinj This is not my experience with Christians today but I still am drawn to Jesus. If he would die a brutal, tortuous death for Judas, who he loved, why wouldn’t he pray for him? If my son committed some terrible crime I would be heart broken but I would pray for him. How can this possibly be a bone of contention among people who call themselves followers of Christ.
@NEChristo in your initial comment you mention not understanding every nuance of free will and God's foreknowledge and I think I can help you out. When you say "free will" are you importing that idea from culture or getting it explicitly from Scripture? You'll recall that The Bible often refers to our will as being enslaved to sin. Regarding God's foreknowledge, how are you defining that word? Do you mean that God looks down the corridors of time and sees events and therefore knows events? The Biblical understanding of foreknowledge is to "know" beforehand; "know" in the intimate sense of the word (ginosko), whereas you may be using "know" in the general sense (oidas, to know of).
You wont please everyone but this LDS guy adores the chosen and what youre doing. We await the new season with great anticipation and wear our Chosen hoodies all over Nashville.
Because they were all ordain to sacrifice the most holy sacrificed. He is a true Passover lamb . He takes away the sin of the world., he did not come to rub our sins in , he came to rub it out, never to feel guilty again when we give our life to him , we become a new creation in Christ Born Again , he gave us the right to become and a child of God, don’t you religious he did not come for us to be religious he came for us to be born again to give us a second chance in life not to be catholic not to be Protestant, or Baptist but Born Again spiritually . He came to fulfil Judaism., the nations will go up to Jerusalem to celebrate the feast of the Tabernacle, the Catholic Church was the first religion that was created and through their teaching they denied the world from celebrating God’s feast. Days The Jews CELEBRATE , his feast days ! but here is the kicker ! if our father in heaven is Jewish, and we are grafted as a believer we are adopted we are Jewish, it’s not the circumcision of the foreskin but circumcision of the heart . Jesus said to Nicodemus, you are Israel’s teacher how it is you don’t know these things ? he was referring to Eze 37:24-38 . Salvation belong to the Jew first then to the Gentiles. Paul said there is no difference between Jew or Gentile we worship the same God.
I look at it this way, this show has intrigued millions and has brought people back to God and new people to God. This show has persuaded people to open their bibles and actually read them. It's great if people are seeing things that are not quite in the scripture and asking questions, but it is a TV show, and the Lord is definitely behind it. All to the Glory of God ❤
God has used pagans to bring people to the truth of the Gospel. We don’t assume paganism is right because of it. I love the chosen, despite its sometimes poor theology. Just wanted to he fair here
@@ScribeAlicious he also used false prophets and pastors . Boy are they shaking in their boots atm as Jesus is exposing them all for their deeds . Daystar is the latest ..
@@ScribeAlicious I have to disagree with "poor theology". Rare instances yes, but the vast majority is on target with God's Word. I use The Chosen as a way to study and think more deeply about many things in God's Word.
Thanks for once again going the extra mile, Dallas. I found it completely plausible that in his frustration and sorrow over Judas, Jesus would pray for him. Continued prayers as you finish editing Season 5 and writing Season 6.
I loved the scene and couldn’t think of another way our Lord would feel after realizing that this soul would be lost. In His infinite mercy how else would he see one of us ?
To all those so critical of this scene, I would suggest putting all this energy into this: Love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.
Or how about the scene opened up a discussion when people could have been talking about the Kardashians etc. This guy has ruined this show with his ego, period. Rolling his eyes at questions? wow
@@croqsieur Try harder, I aint here to splain it to ya Lucy. If ya don't get it, don't let people know; it is a sign of weakness. If ya think "what" is a clever resonse, you carry on sport.
@@christinetuttle8975, Dallas works very, very hard, I believe his motives in this show are God honouring, we the viewers all come from different walks of life. There is ONE thing that Jesus makes, perfectly perfectly clear in the Bible, His wish is for us believers to get along, and pursue unity!!, did YOU get that??. Despite your differences in opinion, JESUS has a mandate for you. Do your part in seeking unity not division!, this is not big enough to squabble over. This is NOT a core doctrine or belief, you are allowed to have a different opinion, but not to sow seeds of division that May harm other viewers. Rolling eyes??. Come on who cares. Pls, for the sake of the gospel keep your thots and opinions to yourself, pls, y thank you,
@christinetuttle8975 find Jesus. You clearly don’t have Him. If Jesus weeping or having any sort of emotion offends you, you haven’t read the Bible. One of the most famous verses is “Jesus wept” (John 11:35). If you lived during Jesus’ time, you would’ve been one of the people who demanded His death because He didn’t fit your version of what the Messiah should be.
Thank you so much Chosen Team for taking the time to carefully share your thoughts, opinions and reasons for your scene choices! You guys are so busy and still take the time to explain with biblical backing your choices. This just shows how much you love others and the sincerity of the shows goal to bring people to Jesus. Love you guys and so appreciate you!
Some of these things that people have issues with I find to be very annoying, but what I do love about it is when Dallas gets the opportunity to address the issues and how he handles it. He’s always clear about not trying to satisfy people‘s opinions or getting into debates, but providing clarity and in the clarity, he always shows the intent behind the scene and how they already prepared for things like that with the team that he has of scholars reviewing the scripts. That’s what I love!Because everything he said made sense and truly is the way that I view Jesus based on the Scriptures and based on what I know, Jesus heart to be. Bravo!
And for every episode, every season, there is a Bible roundtable. Incredible and informative discussions there. More people should watch those rather than complain online before their understanding is complete.
Glad you spoke of Gethsemane. Your will not mine is the human side of Jesus. Love the scene with Judas. So powerfully showed Jesus's sadness and love for Judas.
Thank you Dallas for your patience in describing and caring for others perceptions. I'll be praying for you and everyone involved in the show to have GOD's strength , wisdom , and courage as you bring this message to the world. Armor Up!
Hi Dallas: I am a practicing Catholic and you nailed it. It's too bad you have to defend yourself a lot of times, but you do it w grace and dignity. Keep up the GREAT work that you All do. My husband and I pray for the cast and crew, you and your beautiful wife Amanda, (inside and out), every single day. 🙏
Jesus prays for us…He came for sinners. What an inspiring show! Thank you Dallas. I am grateful for your work. God bless you and your family, the cast and crew of The Chosen. Christmas Blessings! You are in my prayer..
This is an age old topic of inquiry. This issue was going to come up no matter how you portrayed it!. I remember my grandfather, born in the 1880s, talking about this. He was a farmer not a scholar. But he rolled the whole thing around in his mind and asked questions. You did a good and thorough job of explaining this as best anyone could. Enjoy your family this holiday season.
All I have to say is thank you for bringing us this beautiful, powerful show that's brought so many people closer to Jesus and their faith. Thank YOU & God Bless!

Since Jesus was human I believe any human would be affected by the fact that their friend is about to betray them. I think you got it exactly right. I was moved by that scene.
Oh Dallas...as usual you answer with such grace and humility! Thank you for showing us Jesus in your actions and words! May The Father continue to bless you and yours and all your efforts!
Grateful to say that God’s provision is such that my wife and I are able to support The Chosen on a monthly basis… We do this because the production is reaching so many around the world for the Gospel… I believe it to be a door opener for many to investigate the Bible, the Gospel and Jesus’ claims for themselves and come to genuine saving faith in our risen Savior… If just one person receives the message by faith then the entire project is worth it… Keep on keepin’ on…
So because you hope Jesus prays for you and it feels good hes correct? I'm not saying he's not right but when you use emotions instead of logic, your part of the problem we battle against with the atheist
That's one of the greatest things about reading the book of John. When you get to Jesus' prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane in Chapter 17, you realize as you're reading it that Jesus specifically prayed for you AND me in that moment that we would believe and be committed to the Father. When I first realized that, I was moved to tears.

Dude my wife and I loved The Best Christmas pageant ever. Thank you for your hard work to Jesus in the Chosen and the Christmas pageant movie. I believe it will be a classic in the long run.
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever was absolutely incredible! It was funny, entertaining, touching, poignant and inspiring! Thank you, Dallas! The Chosen is magnificent. I have gained so much watching these episodes knowing it’s a human presentation of God’s Word. Again, thank you.
Was it as good as the first film? I would like to see it, but my wife is a HUGE fan of the original film, and thinks it would be an insult to watch the new one. 😢😢😢
I didn't watch the scene nor will I until the new season I try to stay away from spoilers especially when I know I am going to watch regardless. I am here to say Thank you for everything you and the team has done. Great breakdown and I agree with the views.

“In the same way the Spirit also comes to help us, weak as we are. For we do not know how we ought to pray; the Spirit himself pleads with God for us in groans that words cannot express.” Romans 8:26
You are not wrong. This series has been a true miracle for my spiritual life . From the first season every episode has drawn me closer to growing closer to the Saviour. It opened my eyes to reality and wanting to understand that even back then His disciples were human and nothing has changed. The way they are portrayed allows me to recognize myself in each of them. Blessings to you and the Chosen family. Thank you for igniting fire innmy soul. Also I have gone to the Word and I have found nothing not found in the scriptures.
Dallas, I continue to pray for God's blessing upon The Chosen to reach people throughout this world🙏❤️👍‼️ I also pray for those that are trying to come against this work. May God break through the veneer, crust, or stone hearts to the blessed truth of Jesus' death, resurrection and ascension to the Father's throne. I believe that God's Hand is truly upon this "show" , so as many of my elders have said; "Don't sweat the small stuff" . May you continue to walk in the truth and light of the love of Jesus Christ. Leave the rest of it in the hands of the Holy Spirit 😘👍🙏❤️‼️
Jesus loves each of us. What you have started is conversation which is very important. There is always controversy in everything. Important point. People are watching. 🙏Deborah. North Carolina ❤
I think you got it right, Dallas. Having two natures [human and Divine] can only be half understood by us [humans]. The Divine part of His nature is not fully comprehendible. With that being said, of course he would want to pray for someone he loved, it's the human thing to do. Attempting to explain his Divine nature is a slippery slope and best left to God [the Trinity]. Phenomenal work by the entire cast and crew, I can't wait for season 5.
Oh Dallas! I am still on your side! I found the scene to be very moving, and PLAUSIBLE. I don't understand why all these people are so proud as to believe that they have solved 2000 years of debate, nor do I agree that you are heretical. As believers, we choose our theological camps, based on our FLAWED understanding of the Bible. That same pride has caused the many schisms in the Church. May you not be wounded by such landmines. God bless you for sticking your neck out for the Chosen. I love it.
I'm glad you explained the reasons why your script is accurate. It shows the dedication that is put into telling (presenting) the truth. When I watched the trailer, I didn't even think about the controversy that might arise. Well done.
You in the show have got me to rekindle my faith and to take a long hard look at myself. Keep doing what you’re doing, man. Your job is just to bring them in. That’s his job to sort us out.
I was talking to my family about this scene last night and I actually told them "If anything, I would find it MORE strange if Jesus just watched Judas fall away and didn't care at all about him" and they said "Same! It would be unlike His nature to not care or want the best for Judas" It just makes no sense. Scripture says God desires for NO one to perish, and Jesus did pray for everyone, John 17 is dedicated to Jesus' prayer to the Father. Yes in John 17:12 He did say Judas was the only one who He lost as Scripture prophesied but it's not because He wanted him to or made him fall away, it's because Jesus knows the beginning from the end and knew what kind of decision Judas would ultimately make. In the way that I saw it, this section from the Bible doesn't refute that Jesus could have prayed for Judas before he got to that point.. He could've prayed for him earlier on but knew what choice he would ultimately make, and that's why in John 17 He said He lost Judas. So my family and I were scratching our heads at what was so controversial, it was a perfectly well made scene that showed Jesus' compassion for Judas, unlike other movies that made it seem like He didn't love him, which always made me sad, because Jesus' nature is to love, so it's not like He loved Peter who denied Him 3 times, but hated Judas, He loved both. He loved Judas despite knowing that he would betray Him. He even added "do what you came for, friend" in Matthew 26:50, a cutting remark to show Judas that they had a good relationship and he betrayed him just like that. And just because something isn't explicitly written in the Bible, it doesn't mean that it couldn't have happened. The Gospels are more of a summary than a word-for-word recording of everything that happened, John said if he wrote everything that Jesus did, there would never be enough space. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if in that unwritten part, Jesus prayed for Judas. In fact, the opposite would surprise me more. You guys did a perfect job portraying Jesus' loving nature that is not contingent on how the recipient acts. HE loves. And yes of course, Judas is still condemned because of his choice and for removing the chance to ask for forgiveness, but Jesus still loved him
@JDog2656 I mean his suicide is a sign that he felt very bad about what he'd done and regretted it. But he ruined his chance of forgiveness. He should've gone to Jesus and asked for forgiveness 😢 Jesus would've forgiven him. But I imagine he didn't think that was possible because of what he did
Dallas, People are fickle. We will always find a way to challenge, debate or ridicule the decisions and ideas of others. The apostles, no doubt, were the same. Leaning on our own understanding often puts us on our behind! I trust that your decisions throughout making 'The Chosen' have been divinely inspired... Why wouldn't they?! Bringing this series to billions of people across the globe is such a blessing. I thank God for your efforts and pray for you, the actors and everyone else involved in creating this amazing series. God bless you brother.
In the story of 'The name of the Rose' there was a huge barney over whether Jesus owned the clothes he wore. There was nearly a fist fight among high ranking clerics over this question. Dallas, you're doing fantastic work and are loved for the wonderful thing you've done with 'The Chosen'. My church is showing an interest and we're having wonderful discussions about it. We're loving it, as it is, and whatever arguments arise they can't harm this work you're doing. Jesus will give you the answers you need, you can rely on that. God bless. 🌹
One can watch and enjoy it and simultaneously acknowledge when something is just not biblical. They're not mutually exclusive. I enjoy the series, but some of the choices are a reach.
Keep pushing!!! Listen to the Spirit of God He has been with you this whole process in this show!! Those who have ears will hear and those who have eyes will see!!
I’m surprised by the controversy. But, you did a very good job explaining your thoughts behind the scene. Very good. Love the work you are doing, and love the Chosen.
The Chosen is an amazing television drama. It's made me appreciate my own faith, the struggles my ancestors went through from every corner of the world it gave me curiosity watching about "life in the first century" architectural sites, foods, teachings, political atmosphere.
Dallas, I see pain. I am heartbroken. You, your creative team and your consultants are doing a marvelous job. We love you all and trust your desire to combine the Bible and needed creative together to make God proud.
“Trust your desire to combine the Bible ‘and needed creative together to “make God proud”. What? I don’t understand your comment. This show was needed “to make God proud”. Have you read or studied any of The Bible? Are you aware that The script for The Chosen ONLY uses GOD’S Word 5% of the time? This means that the show is a 95% imagination! How is this show that is 95% of the writer’s imagination going to make God proud? Just trying to understand.
The only issue I see is Judas and the predestination question. We, me and family, watched the trailer and end up having a very long theological discussion about Judas, human agency, salvation and freewill. Thank you Dallas for providing feedback.
An all powerful god that predestines some to succeed and some to fail is not a benevolent being. The only way to logically justify the existence of a loving God is to accept that everyone is impacted by their choices and the choices of others. God allows us to choose to follow him or not and his arms are always outstretched with the invitation to come follow me. The adversarial forces of this world will continue to try to influence us to make choices to limit the ability to choose. Goodness leads to greater agency, wickedness seeks to control and bind. Predestination is the phylosophical encapsulation of humankind's attempt to understand the complexity of life. As the saying goes we can't "see the forest for the trees". It's not possible for us to comprehend the effects of all the choices people make or why things happen. An all-knowing Father in heaven does hold the power to comprehend in realtime the precise future that will unfold based on the choices being made by every person in this world. Like an awesome GPS, you make a wrong turn, and God "recalculates" the path forward.
God creates everyone. Some for a dark purpose. When I read that Jesus ministered to the dead while in the grave I think hey Judas was there. He could have comforted him. He now fully Knowing exactly why he was “there”. To fulfill the scriptures.
I think people/critics just try to nitpick entirely too much. Misery loves company. The Chosen is designed to motivate people to dive into The Word. While it is based on Biblical truths and scripture, people need to open their Bible and find answers themselves. My 11 year old daughter LOVES this show sooo much and it was a catalyst that inspired her to dive into her Bible, to seek a close relationship with our Father and she professed her faith through baptism! We own all 4 seasons on blu-ray and we often rewatch them. New questions arise every time and we always refer to scripture. Thank you, Dallas, for your dedication & commitment to getting it right! The hard work that you & your team put into this is absolutely amazing. Your heart is true! We have shared The Chosen with our pastor and many members of our church family. It really helps to see people from our Bible “come to life” and to see that they were real people with real feelings and situations. I am a visual person and I am so thankful for The Chosen! God bless you, your family, & all of the cast & crew of The Chosen!
When Jesus asked Judas "Who has your heart? I want it" it broke me in pieces. I mean, Jesus gave us free will, we're allowed to choose what we want to do, the problem here isn't that Judas betrayed Him, because this was God's plan, but the problem is that he decided to take his own life bc he regretted what he did. For me, I saw Jesus's question not as he didn't want Judas to hand Him over to the Romans, bc this what Judas needed to do, but Jesus didn't want Judas to give his life and soul to the evil. I think you did a great job in Judas and Jesus relationship, bc with The Chosen we can understand a bit what was Judas motivations
Jesus would have known Judas was going to kill himself. I can imagine, if nothing else, Jesus was pleading for Judas' life. If Judas had lived long enough for the resurrection, it's possible he could have been reconciled to Christ. Why are the critics so stirred up about Jesus praying for any of humanity??
@@cynthiabush1784Judas died before the resurrection, thus salvation, so he will have a chance to be eternally saved, just as others who died before Jesus was crucified; I cannot believe Judas is the one man in history with no chance of salvation because he died before Jesus was crucified.
I am SO THANKFUL for your wonderful work in creating and producing The Chosen. Jesus came and He KNEW He would be betrayed and that He would die on the cross, dying for us all. Could it be that Jesus prayed for Judas and how Judas would feel after he would betray Him? I feel that The Chosen is such an amazing work. I hope it will encourage those who are naysayers to open their Bibles and agree to disagree with those who disagree with their view on such a topic as this. The Bible is all about John 3:16.
That is a great point. Jesus was so loving that also think he could have been referring to praying for Judas to deal with betraying him after the fact!! 🙏🏻
The scene was powerful. It showed how we can have a different agenda from God, and think we know best because we have certain skills, or outlook. Forgetting that our ways and thoughts are not His. The scene was played excellently. When Judas stood up, his offense had taken its final root. His words and actions after that spoke volumes. May none of us get to the place that we think we know more than God. May we always practice humility even when we don’t understand. Praise the Name of Jesus for all prayers and intercession He does on our behalf. And may we always side with His will.
my personal opinion on that scene: It touched me, the pain what felt Jesus was in context with his teachings (pray for everyone, don`t condem) and the anger of Judas understandable.
He definitely got it wrong. It is an unbiblical scene. The derision here is why this series is so dangerous. The Word of God is all we need. Not made up scenes for the benefit of Hollywood. This scene and its dialogue are not found in Scripture. WAKE UP Christians.

John 17-17-25 - Jesus prayed for the disciples and us. Fantastic explanation, Dallas. Amazing work as always. May the Lord bless you and guide you to write/edit Season 6 / with more scenes like these please that get these dialogues going! Too much have Christians been stagnant in their faith. Scenes like this encourage people to see wisdom from the Word! The source! Woohoo!! Thank you! ❤❤❤
Not that I feel you needed to explain, because I thought the scene between Jesus and Judas was beautifully done.. Thank you for explaining your thoughts and reason why.. BIG HUGE FAN!!
And how many of us have wondered if God really knows what He is doing? How many of us have challenged or even been angry or disappointed with God? How many of us have betrayed or denied our Lord? We are all Judas. We are all Thomas. We are all Simon Peter.
Oooh and thank you, Sir, and the entire crew and cast for this beautiful journey of a show. My bonus daughter is a new Christian and loves every episode. Our family enjoys every minute of it. Sorry I forgot to mention it in my previous comment. God bless and keep on keepin' on! ❤
Thank you. I agree it’s good to think about, talk about, and study these topics. We can never get to the bottom of biblical insight. There’s always more to God. Grace and peace to you.
From my perspective, I don't know that Judas ever stopped believing. It seems to me that his betrayal wasn't driven, necessarily, by unbelief but by a misguided belief that he was, in some way, helping the "revolution" that he (and many others) were expecting to take place at the coming of the Messiah. I don't think he believed Jesus would be killed. I think he believed Jesus would, ultimately, take "his rightful place" as King. But that's just my speculation, especially given his obvious regret of that betrayal afterwards.
That is a very plausible thought. The man who walks on water and raises the dead should be able to defeat the Romans with a wave of his hand. What Judas didn't get was that that was not the mission. Whatever was in Judas's mind, he was chosen for this task.
That makes sense, Judas even went back to the temple to ask for Jesus' release, and threw away his coins, when he realized what a big mistake he made. He was very regretful and hated himself enough to end his life 😢 what a terrible outcome.
This Jewish woman has so deeply appreciated the sensitivity of your series. I think this is the first Jesus show that shows the deep Jewish roots of Jesus and the disciples well told. It’s also wonderful to see the dark skinned Middle East Jesus after just seeing Bonhoeffer and recalling the Nazi’s aryan Jesus. I’ve learned a lot and I’m deeply moved and grateful for this series. Thank you Dallas. It’s healing and uplifting to watch this. I think you have done a phenomenal job.
Yes, THANK YOU Dallas! Thank you to the entire Chosen team!! This show has been incredibly healing for me. I lost my husband 7 years ago. He was the love of my life. An absolute gift from God. It had been a struggle to simply keep breathing in this world without him by my side. This show has been a tool for me. It renews my curiosity and causes me to dive into my Bible deeper. In turn, I breath easier and feel uplifted and am reminded that I am never really alone. Jesus is always with us. It also makes me brave. lol It’s easier to send scripture after watching a show. 😂 I do try to share encouraging verses and helpful passages to friends and family but at times, I might second guess if I should. When I’m deep into a season of The Chosen, I’ve noticed that I don’t even think twice about it. 😊👍♥️
I took as Jesus saying that he will pray for Judas so that after he does what he's supposed to do, that way judas will repent and be saved even after he betrayed Jesus. Jesus wouldn't have prayed for Judas to change his mind bc the betrayal had to happen, but he could've prayed sp that Judas repented AFTER
I don’t even watch The Chosen but I keep watching interviews. I’m a busy dad whose only entertainment is RUclips on the tube. Anyway, cannot help but like/love this guy.

Could Jesus Pray for Judas Iscariot?
While he certainly could if he wanted to, it is evident that God does not always override human free will to bring about what he "wants."
c) This brings me to the third sub-point here: prayer is not magic words.

Similarly, added texts can sometimes obscure the truth, such as the example where Yeshua didn’t actually say, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."
Despite these issues, the central message is what truly matters: salvation is for all.

It's sad how so many people have lost the ability to think, reason, and discern. A majority of the issues people have with the show fall into this category. The "problem" with the show is it challenges peoples pre-conceived ideas and beliefs. They do not and refuse to think outside the box, outside of their beliefs. So weird...
I totally agree. After all this is kust a TV show. I habe enjoyed it so much.

Well said.

He did not pray for Satan
Because they were all ordain to sacrifice the most holy sacrificed. He is a true Passover lamb . He came to fulfil Judaism., the nations will go up to Jerusalem to celebrate the feast of the Tabernacle, the Catholic Church was the first religion that was created and through their teaching they denied the world from celebrating God’s feast. Days
The Jews CELEBRATE , his feast days ! but here is the kicker ! if our father in heaven is Jewish, and we are grafted as a believer we are adopted we are Jewish, it’s not the circumcision of the foreskin but circumcision of the heart .
Jesus said to Nicodemus, you are Israel’s teacher how it is you don’t know these things ? he was referring to Eze 37:24-38 . Salvation belong to the Jew first then to the Gentiles. Paul said there is no difference between Jew or Gentile we worship the same God.
Yes !
I look at it this way, this show has intrigued millions and has brought people back to God and new people to God. This show has persuaded people to open their bibles and actually read them. It's great if people are seeing things that are not quite in the scripture and asking questions, but it is a TV show, and the Lord is definitely behind it.

HE loves. And yes of course, Judas is still condemned because of his choice and for removing the chance to ask for forgiveness, but Jesus still loved him
Beautifully said!
I think it’s not the betrayal he was concerned for, but the fact that Judas never repented and committed suicide. He didn’t believe the way Peter did
Well said!!
@JDog2656 I mean his suicide is a sign that he felt very bad about what he'd done and regretted it. But he ruined his chance of forgiveness. He should've gone to Jesus and asked for forgiveness 😢 Jesus would've forgiven him. But I imagine he didn't think that was possible because of what he did
@@cynthiat6505 Thank you!

The only issue I see is Judas and the predestination question. We, me and family, watched the trailer and end up having a very long theological discussion about Judas, human agency, salvation and freewill. Thank you Dallas for providing feedback.
Judas was 100% predestined to turn Jesus in and do everything he ended up doing though
It was the father's will
An all powerful god that predestines some to succeed and some to fail is not a benevolent being.

I think people/critics just try to nitpick entirely too much. Misery loves company. The Chosen is designed to motivate people to dive into The Word. While it is based on Biblical truths and scripture, people need to open their Bible and find answers themselves. I could not agree any more with you @amandaRNnNC.
I think it definitely is a problem that Judas betrayed Him, God didn't make Judas do that, he chose it himself

We pray for our enemies. The Lord’s Prayer needs to be something we live. Jesus prayed as he lived.❤
It wouldn't be a season of The Chosen without a controversy due to certain people over reacting.
Beautifully explained as always! So grateful for you and everyone on the team’s attention to everything. Thank you so much!
And how many of us have wondered if God really knows what He is doing? How many of us have challenged or even been angry or disappointed with God? How many of us have betrayed or denied our Lord? We are all Judas. We are all Thomas. We are all Simon Peter.
Well said , Amen we all fall short.
Appreciate ur addressing these things that pop up.
You, the script writers and cast do an amazing job! Keep up good work! Love The Chosen♥️
Thanks for your support!
Geezzzzzzz PPL!!! Keep up the great work Dallas!
Well, that's the way the Ian McShane version was written.
That makes sense, Judas even went back to the temple to ask for Jesus' release, and threw away his coins, when he realized what a big mistake he made. He was very regretful and hated himself enough to end his life 😢 what a terrible outcome.
One thing we know is that Judas, despite his beliefs and intentions, was never saved
@@ScribeAlicioushe was. In fact, he became a king in Jesus’s kingdom in heaven, according to Jesus.
Thank you for sharing, Rachel. We appreciate your kind words.
Hallelujah sister!
They need to stop and just enjoy the show.. But, at least they are thinking. God bless all that you have done and are doing.
I took as Jesus saying that he will pray for Judas so that after he does what he's supposed to do, that way judas will repent and be saved even after he betrayed Jesus.
Jesus wouldn't have prayed for Judas to change his mind bc the betrayal had to happen, but he could've prayed sp that Judas repented AFTER
@@lianet777 I totally agree.
My thoughts exactly. Judas despaired. Peter repented.
My thoughts exactly!
Judas did not repent. Judas is in his own place that he deserves, Acts 1:15
I also feel that’s was Jesus meant when He said that! In John 17 Jesus prayers for all his followers including us!
I don’t even watch The Chosen but I keep watching interviews. I’m a busy dad whose only entertainment is RUclips on the tube. Anyway, cannot help but like/love this guy.
The Chosen is a modern-day midrash, and there's nothing wrong with it. Keep up the good work. 💫💜💫
