How do they not have Madrigal bunt in that situation? He’s a ground ball double play machine. Barely escaped the DP. Really bad send at third.

Yep, Madrigal should have never went home and challenged De la Cruzs' arm. It's maybe the best in baseball. He was out by 4 feet.

Counsell isn’t a fan of the bunt….not many managers are anymore. Unfortunately, it’s become a lost art.
It was a bad call by Willie Harris, and he took responsibility for it, but with the offense struggling with runners in scoring position lately, it was a send he had to make.

The bull pen is horrible but often times Counsell puts players like Hendricks and Smyly in high leverage spots when other pitchers are available, like Hodge. Counsell is more concerned about the future than winning today. Maybe Ross wasn't such a bad manager after all.

All that situation required was letting wisdom swing for the fences. Had he struck out, oh well. Atleast there is a chance. But it's not fair to pick at certain players when the other guys are just as bad.

It's not all Madrigals fault. You guys.... Always looking for a scapegoat.. The answer is right there in front of you. The team has lost confidence and self belief and that only comes from one person. The manager. He may be the best thing since sliced bread but he's not a people person. He looks very unapproachable to me. Always glaring, terrible body language when the players pass him after at bats,. He just turns his back on them. Watch him, really watch him.. I dont care what you say, counsell is fine when he's got ace closers, bullpen etc. I haven't seen him smile once.

Why are the Chicago Cubs so timid about calling up young prospects and actually PLAY6ING them. Are they afraid of hurting Swanson"s feelings if they give him some time off and putting in Luis Vasquez at shortstop? Aren't we all getting tired of watching Swanson strikeout or hit feeble ground balls in the infield? DH him, Start PCA in CF with Belli at 1B, Platoon Morel and Busch at 3B, but DO SOMETHING before it's too late. Championship teams make those moves necessary to win ballgames.

  • @DionysusAlS
    @DionysusAlS 4 месяца назад

Sorry, but anyone who thinks this team is going to win the division is completely delusional. The Brewers have a great offense, unlike the Cubs. They need to do a full-blown youth movement right now. There's no reason to wait anymore. If they lose 100 games with the kids playing, no big whoop. Point to 2025, and get a couple of decent power hitters and shut down relievers in the offseason. Hoyer better not trade any more prospects trying to shore up this failed team. I don't think I've disliked a Cubs team more-- well, besides last year, but it's basically the same team.

Something I have noticed is that all the Cubs…I mean ALL…are either whiffing or fouling fastballs down the middle. Not fouling them straight back. That means you’re right on them. I mean fouling them off…oFF…as in they are OFF. All of the Cubs hitters are doing this consistently now, no matter who is pitching…from Skeans to their worst reliever. I remember the Cubs hitters fall into this several years ago…and they never banged out of it. They had a very good offensive team and they suddenly fell into a season long slump where they couldn’t square up a fastball. It did not end for the whole season.

Those late rally’s always end up running into a buzz saw of someone like Madrigal coming up and GIDP, which he did aside from the guy making it a slow play. Or they run into a dumb baserunning error, which Madrigal/Willie Harris did…

The Cubs desperately need an everyday catcher. Gomes can be a solid backup defensive catcher for the rest of the season, but, I don’t see Amaya as the catcher of the future. He struggles with passed balls and wild pitches and he’s just not hitting. And, I haven’t been impressed with the catchers in the Cubs farm system. It might be time to trade some of the minor league talent for a catcher who can stick around for four or five years…maybe longer.
I’m also disappointed that Jed Hoyer and Carter Hawkins haven’t been as proactive as I had hoped. I know the team has had a ton of injuries, but, there are still noticeable holes to fill and they’ve done, pretty much, nothing.

Mick seems like Jed's plan is to trust that his team's offense will figure it out like they did last year at mid season. May be relying too much on the hope that some of these(pitchers) in recent acquisitions may magically translate into instant immediate future at the major league level after some grooming at AAA Iowa.
Can this team realistically hold out until reinforcements arrive after the All star break?

I told my wife that Madrigal would be out at the plate as the play unfolded, I don’t know what he offers this team. He’s not fast, terrible base runner( that wasn’t the first blunder on the base pash for Nick, there have been many) and he is the weakest hitter in the league. I thought Craig left Smyly in too long. Cubs won’t win the divisional race unless the bullpen gets figured out.

I’m no Madrigal fan…if it were up to me he and Mastro would’ve been launched long ago, but that send was on Willie Harris. And I’m not mad at Willie for being aggressive. It took a perfect relay to get him and DeLaCruz threw a laser to the plate.
Assad wasn’t at his best but if that’s his worst, he’s very solid.
The Cubs bats are beginning to wake up. The defense needs to tighten up and the bullpen needs to start locking down whatever leads it’s given.

@@johnnyv6332 Patrick Wisdom is 32. In his career he's struck out 499 times in 1,362 plate appearances. He's never hit 40 home runs in a season, and he never will. In the 3 seasons with the Cubs, he's hit .231/.207/.205 and has never been a consistent run producer. On top of that he is a major defensive liability so you can't play him in the field everyday. He is the living embodiment of a wasted roster space, better spent on someone younger with an actual ceiling.
