    Do you find the 100-400 soft at 400 ?
    Mine is not sharp at 400.
    I need to use it at 380

    Thanks for the video. One question, are you considering the new Panasonic GH6?

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  2 года назад

      Not at this stage. Not at that price, but I will be interested to see if that 25 mpx sensor starts making its way into any other Lumix bodies. The GH6 like the GH5 seems to be a more video-centric camera and video is just a sideline for me.

    Hi Andrew another great video do you have an update on the 200mm 2.8 with the 2x teleconverter I am thinking of purchasing the converter and would value your thoughts

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  2 года назад

      I don't have anything very meaningful to say/show on the converter. To be honest I have hardly used it. Because I would be using it for wildlife and wildlife is mostly moving around, it has is too cumbersome (or I am just too lazy) to have to take off the 200mm, attach the converter, then attach the lens again. Then if the animals move further away, I have to do the process in reverse...sometimes missing an opportunity along the way.
      There is no question that it is an excellent combo for quality, but when I have the 100-400 zoom right there in the bag it seems like the more practical option most of the time. But that's me and as I said I am a bit lazy. I know there are people out there who would sacrifice a kidney for a sharp photo, and those people might be very happy to go to the extra trouble.

    Hi Andrew, just wondering what AF Custom Setting do you use? I am struggling to get sharp images, and wondering if I have this set up wrong.

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  Год назад

      I use AF Custom Setting 3. I can't say there was much thought behind it, I think I set it that way on someone else's recommendation. I can't really tell you how much difference it makes...but there's your answer. Sorry to take so long to reply.

    I'm seriously thinking of moving away from my dual DSLR setup and into mirrorless. Most of my photography is of aviation or architecture and a few years ago, I (very) briefly experimented with mirrorless alongside my DSLRs but was bitterly disappointed with missing so many panning shots because of the blanking of the viewfinder during uploading to the card. Does this still happen? Is it still a problem with moving shots like aircraft?

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  2 года назад

      I can only speak for the G9 Ray but I haven't had that problem. In fact you can take plenty of photos and just keep on shooting on the G9. If you have a lot of shots buffering and you go to review what you have taken, it might tell you to wait while images are being saved. But I have never had to wait for one set of photos to save before I can shoot again, nor have I had the screen going blank. Why not take an SD card down to a camera store and get them to let you put this to the test?

    Should I use silent mode or mechanical shutter and why?

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  2 года назад +1

      I have never used silent mode. I suppose if you are trying to stalk birds very quietly at close range it might be beneficial but I haven't met anyone who is using it. The electronic shutter - there are some shooting modes that only use electronic shutter, such as the Super High-Speed Pre-burst mode which I sometimes use for action. So I do use it if the mode I'm shooting in selects it by necessity, but I have never deliberately chosen to use it over the mechanical shutter.

    Hi Andrew one question how do you set 1 area focus WITH Human/Animal detect ? great video BTW and what mode Manual or Shutter priority please ?? Tnx

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  2 года назад

      I'll answer question two first - I shoot in Manual all the time, including choosing the ISO myself.
      To use 1-area AF with human animal detect, you need your firmware updated to at least version 2.4, if not higher. Then it can simply be done by pressing Fn1 and then use the touch screen to select. You can see me doing this in several videos, here's a link to one of them: ruclips.net/video/yT2xAsKzjqk/видео.html

      @@naturesimagephotography Thank You Andrew I also shoot mostly in Manual mode but sometimes to get 2500 shutter speed I have to go to auto ISO especially if zoomed out to almost 400mm - if outside in the sunshine it can be difficult to operate via the touch screen - Doing a test now as per your video on this subject - if you select via the Fn1 button human/animal detect then that icon shows up on the screen along with all the other info but now if you then select 1 area focus the icon for human/animal detect goes off - this happens whichever method you choose I,e, either by the screen or using the button looking through the view finder - yes on Fn1 the box still says human-animal detect off - which like you I struggled with until I realised it was a question LOL. so can one "assume" that as long as human-animal detect off is always showing that it is in fact functional and that clicking on any other focus mode does not alter this fact >? and yes I am on V2.4 I hope I have explained this well ? Thanks paul

    • @lostshepard00
      @lostshepard00 2 года назад

      one other observation Andrew on Fn1 given that human-animal select is the #1 on the left 1 area focus is #5 from the left - your icon shows a sort of corrupted triangle with a bird for 1 area focus - whereas on both my G9 bodies for this I get a small black square box within a square frame ? huh ?

    Which AF SET did you use for the birds in flight? Do you make any adjustments to these?

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  2 года назад

      I didn't even know so I had to go into the menu and check. I have it on SET 3 and I probably did that ages ago on somebody else's recommendation. So I am not necessarily recommending that, but it is the true answer to the question.

  • @joerg7327
    @joerg7327 2 года назад

    Nice Video, thanks! One question: You mentioned that you use highspeed burst (H mode?). According to the G9 user manual the AF is using the predicted focus for this mode. Wouldn't it be better to use "M" burst speed as the AF then would use "normal" focussing? I would be happy if you could share your experience and thoughts about that. Thanks, Joerg

    • @naturesimagephotography
      @naturesimagephotography  2 года назад +2

      I didn't even know that so thank you. But with high speed burst I have a much better chance of catching the bird in a good position. At slower speeds there is a much better chance that I will miss the moment.

    • @joerg7327
      @joerg7327 2 года назад

      @@naturesimagephotography Thanks for your feedback. I'm not sure if this makes the big difference. H-speed is 9 fps with AFC, M-speed is 7 fps with AFC (according to the manual).
