QD: I've done some Strava segment hunting on my local trails, not really FKT work, but fun to see how I stack up against other locals. Managed to get 3 crowns in one run back in March, which is still the only time I've ever done that 😆

QD: I've only snagged some incidental-peak crowns in the local hills here around Züri (Käferberg), but there's something hauntingly contenting about 35-yr old new dad "borrowing" crowns from young & invincible 20-year olds.. That said, perhaps bears mentioning Seth that you "borrowed" an FKT, because someone will surely come behind and take it back🤙👍. Killer 1st-person views today, gnarly get! Congrats and greets from Züri🇨🇭! DGR STRONG 💪.

First of all - congrats Seth!! Definitely well deserved
honestly I don't know that I've ever even gone after any "FKT"s; there are some local Strava segments that I keep an eye on, although I'm pretty sure I'm not in the top spot on any of them. There are a lot of pretty speedy runners in my city, especially in my age range, so it's tough.
HOWEVER, what I will definitely add to is a VERY big AMEN for "older and faster" - I'm in exactly that same position right now. I've been running for 7 years... back in 2019 I made quite a bit of progress, but 2021 is blowing even that AWAY, by far! 42 years old (soon to be 43, just 10 days) and I am *hands down* the fastest & in the best physical shape of my life. It's an AMAZING feeling!!

Awesome job on the FKT! I put your area in my weather app so I could see
What’s going on weather wise in CO. I only check it once in a while to get an idea what it’s like in the places I’d love to run and visit someday... I believe I saw temps in low 90’s yesterday... that alone would have me getting the FKT to Andy’s!

    Great effort Seth.
No FKT's for me sadly. I realize I do not have the speed for that. My focus is FMT's (Fastest Me times). I take mountain runs I know my time on and see if I can beat it. I set one last summer on an 8km trail (4km in and 4km out) with 2400 feet of climbing at 1 hour 30 minutes at the age of 50. I did it last weekend in 1 hour and 38 minutes for my second time up it this year. I turn 51 today and already have that 1 hour and 30 minute target in my sights. If the smoke dissipates, that FMT is going down!
Keep up the great inspiration Seth.

PRs can come at any age as long as you train consistently and depending on what your running history is. For example, if you were a high-level (elite or sub-elite)10km runner in your 20s and 30s, you are unlikely to set a PR in your 50s. I recently set a PR at 42 by more than 3min in a HM TT. My previous PR was in a race 5 years ago. Well done on your FKT!

I’m not a doctor and COVID is affecting people differently. Take it very easy and listen to your body. That being said, I wouldn’t give up the idea for marathon in October, there is still quite a bit of time to lay a foundation. You might have to change your expectations from time based to just finishing. I’d consult your doctor to make sure your good with resuming physical activities after you recover from covid. Good luck!

Anyone else here not had luck with any carbon-plated shoes and/or rocker-geometry shoes? In the past I tried the CarbonX, Hyperion Elite2 and just took out the mango Next% yesterday on a 14 miler (6 mi initial test after buying them last yr was ok) and had an aching top of the foot behind the big-toe metatarsal. I’m training for Boston in Oct. & was saving the shoe but needed a long test. I’m wondering if for some of our gaits the rocker design/carbon plate (no flex) doesn’t agree with our mechanics. I def need something with more cushion than my single marathon (before all the super shoes; wore the Launch6). Welcome any feedback, please! Including @Seth James DeMoor! Thanks, Martha PS Next two LR’s will try the Endo Speed (I like them but never did 14+ in them) and new untested Brooks Aurora BL. Both could be contenders.
