This video shows why it's a privilege to cheer for Air Force. Phenomenal work ethic and the smartest team on every field. Congrats on your success, Sam!
I'm dad of a 2018 grad who ran XC all four years at the AFA. Great video, Sam, & I'll tell you what you already know......WAY TO DO THE WORK!! Here's hoping & praying you have a season that fully lives up to the amazing potential we all know you have. 4x All American and _________ in 2022/23? Time will soon tell.
I remember my 4 degree year going for a 5 mile run on the roads at the Academy only to be smoked by the XC team on their run of 13 miles. I almost quit running that day. These cadet-athletes are amazing.
Sam, good video. Brings back memories. It’s hilarious to see that cadets never change. The best food in CSprings is the biggest Burrito you can find -ha! My USAFA days were magical, looking back, but didn’t always seem like it. After flying the F-16 and retiring in 2008, I wouldn’t change a thing. Now I consult to the aircraft industry, a boring ass job like everyone else. Best of luck and enjoy the things most will never experience.
Thank you for the wonderful insight on a day as a cadet at the academy. Im sure its lots of fun and challenging at the same time. Thank you for all you do and I wish you and your fellow cadets the very best.
Learned a lot! Seems like a more regimented day than the average d1 runner but looks like some great people to spend time with. Beautiful setting for a university
I never thought of trying to do USAFA or college when I was in HS, no matter. I wasn't college material anyway and no way would I have gotten good SAT' scores so I served as enlisted in the USAF. It was a great time. The USAFA looks like an awesome school to attend, I know it's not easy and has a big course load but it looks like, after the "doolie" year it's a "normal" college w/higher course load w/mandatory academics to deal with.
I have always been a fan of you and the entire AFXC team. It was interesting seeing what a day looks like for you. I highly respect all of the work you guys do while serving our great country. I am excited to watch you guys at the NCAA Championship coming up soon.
Great info I loved this! My daughter is there Shayla Padilla you’ll meet her, high jumper a freshman. And I like seeing what the day in the life looks like. Keep up the grind buddy!
Yes, thank you it was an honor to film the movie "Top Gun: Maverick" at the Naval Air Force Academy pilots elite Fighter Weapons School (known as TOPGUN) in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
I love the Air Force Academy. It's been my dream for years to go there. Do you happen to know anyone homeschooled who was accepted? Or someone who went through the Civil Air Patrol?
I’m an ‘88 grad. I was also in CAP in HS. I could see where home schooling could be more a challenge to get in front of an admissions liaison officer. Reach out to admissions and get the name of an LO in your area. Your biggest hurdle will probably be the Congressional nomination. No matter how old you are, reach out to your local congressman asap. Your senators also can nominate you, but realistically they will be a long shot.
Im hondurean im the only one intesrested i went to school in the United States , i want to join the US airforce to become a pilot im single and i am 23 years old , i dont have kids or wife im just a single men with a goal to achieve. ❤
Great video. Can you explain why some cadets wear fatigues or the flight suit and blue cap during the day when most are wearing the usual blue slacks and short sleeve shirt?
There will always be a standardized uniform for the day, however certain additional duties may warrant a different uniform wear. i.e. working in the lab wearing OCPs or glider instructors wearing flight suits.
Hey so I’ve still got a few years till I go to college but for years now I’ve wanted to go there and it’s my dream. I’ve looked online but there’s not a ton of information on the golf team as that is my main sport do you know a bit about that?
I thought AF Academy requires more military drilling and them yelling at you. Also, you seem to have your own car there and can drive off campus. Is that because you are a senior? I"m guessing you are a senior as you said, you are putting in 4 years. In any case, thanks for your service, and I wish you well with your running events.
Reach out to your congressman now. The younger you are, the better. Let them know your interested and build a chain of correspondence with them you can point to when the time for your nomination interview comes.
You’ll be glad to know I took that advice but kind of on accident😂 I was volunteering at sun n fun (I was super fortunate, I got selected to be on blue angels support) but at the moment I had nothing to do. I was in a building, watching an f35 do it’s thing through the window, and all of a sudden this older gentleman walks up behind me and says “I heard you want to go to the academy” I had been telling everyone that was anyone that I wanted to attend a service academy, so it didn’t surprise me that he knew, so I replied yes. We talked for awhile and he told me he was an f14 pilot (I happened to have a top gun shirt on that day) and we joked around. Finally he asks “do you know who your congressman is? For your district?” And I said yes Scott Franklin. And then he goes “oh, we’ll I’m Scott Franklin!” One of the coolest moments of my life. After that we talked about me getting a nomination in the future and what he looks for in applicants.
Same as any D1 with the exception that Admissions has final say rather than the coaches at the bigger institutions. Just because you're a great athlete doesn't mean you're gonna slide in like many other places.
Academy ain’t real D1 😂. JK when I was at Texas Tech in 2018 we played you guys during the fall. Y’all had a solid squad. The real kicker is the fact my wife is now enlisted in the Air Force lol
Wow. Things have REALLY changed. Four Seasons compared to 20 years ago. Literally. I can't believe how much better the cadet's life is. Except Mitch's still looks like $hit. Freakin' prison food.
@@chris_floyd1 - I still have a form 0-96 tucked into my 1984 contrails. It reads "... our plates were really dirty. Also, we would like cheese to go with our hamburgers." Along with the standard FNA, FGG. I am a bit baffled though over fridges in dink rooms. WTF.

Least realistic part was a management major doing homework
Could also be wearing blues to class
Biz majors usually spent lots of time playing golf.
Engineering majors: golf, what's that?
@garretblenkush2530 your comment made my day. I’m studying for my MBA, and apart from accounting 🧾, I cry on how easy management majors have it.

Maybe write a letter to my congressman?

Is a greencard important to join the US airforce ?
Do you need a bachelors degree ? I dont have one , i only have my junior highschool grades , 11th grade.
You get your degree at the academy
About how many walk ons are on each team?

Im planning on going to the USAFA, but I was wondering what it took you to join the Academy?
High test scores and good grades but more importantly excellent extra-curricular resume with strong leadership experience and volunteering.
What do you hope to major in Sam
any advice for a Academy Cadet wannabe??

Did you get in through a scholarship? I’m asking cause I want to go to the Academy.
Admission Is free, but it’s also very hard to get into
All cadets are on scholarship whether they are an athlete or not.
@@wj3672 Thx for the info
@@jrgkls Ok that makes sense, thanks
It's not free, it just doesn't cost money.
What is the recruiting process like for an usafa athlete?
Kind of the same as non military academies, but you still have to go through the application and try to get a nomination.
Same as any D1 with the exception that Admissions has final say rather than the coaches at the bigger institutions. Just because you're a great athlete doesn't mean you're gonna slide in like many other places.
