I think there are 2 explanations for this behavior:
    1. In order to better maintain battery health (because charging it to 100% or discharging it to 0% makes a car battery's lifespan to severely shorten) VW made it so that it displays a lower range when the battery is close to dying, in order to prompt the user to charge the car or switch to a mode that uses the petrol engine, but the car can still use the battery that is not showing on the range display in case of an emergency. This would be done in order to prevent too many complaints about fast deteriorating battery life on the GTE.
    2. The second explanation, and a simpler one, is that the range display only shows the whole part of a number (or rounds them down to the nearest whole number). Thus, 5.9km of range would be displayed as 5km, instead of rounding it up to 6km. In the same way, 0.9999km of range would be displayed as 0km, when you actually have 999m of range left. The advantage to this theory is that it can be easily tested (basically by driving 999m after the battery hits 0), but you have to take into account that the battery also regenerates when braking, so the car would probably drive more than 999m if you break or slow down.
I was thinking about getting this car, and I'll be sure to test it out if I get the opportunity.
Regardless, you have an awesome car, and I love watching all of your videos. Glad to contribute to the community.

Thanks for your comment, Cosmin! As a programmer, I can see that your thinking is very analytical :) Your points are valid and I agree that the second option is plausible. And thanks for watching my videos. You've just motivated me to create a new video that I'm uploading right now.

@@Drivewithme1 I think the golf GTE attracts programmers, because I actually also work in the field. Anytime a video about this car comes up in my recommended, it’s yours and I love watching them because they are quality content. Also love all the details you show. Thank you for the effort!

Mulțumesc, Cosmin! I was actually talking about YOU being a programmer, I saw the cover on your channel. :) Thanks again for watching my videos!

Less than 1 mile is 0.9 miles, it can’t display 0.9 just like it can’t display 1.9. Pretty simple really

VW's always have a little left in reserve! Either that, or their GOM's/fuel level indicators are on the heavier side of empty? My Golf TDI goes into its (supposed) reserve at 40 miles to go, but it has a 55 litre tank and at the end of the reserve, it still has 5 litres left!

Mine won't let me do this, it goes into Hybride Hold. Maybe because the lower limit is set.
