No she didn't. I just went to the Dove website and she is not listed any where as a winner of any award.The Dove awards are a joke. Not of God at all. Contemporary Christian music is an industry with big money for the singers and the ones that own them.

Truth!! So refreshing!! If Christians poo poo this topic and don't tell these people the truth, that their headed for hell for eternity, that's on us. If we speak the truth and tell them their headed for hell and they ignore it, that's on them. We move on to the next person who is willing to listen.

You’re deluded if you think that the Dove awards is about holiness and not about making money. They do not care it is about selling albums like any other music show.
It’s ridiculous and most of these “artists” wouldn’t make it anywhere else.
Amen ! This whole thing is an industry and just like the world and their awards. And yes -- "artist" thats all they are. God is looking for worshippers who will worship him in Sprit and in truth as King Jesus said in John 4 ! Praise You Lord Jesus !
I don't care anything about hearing this. You've only given him a platform for evilness. Yes he should have been turned away but the Dove Awards didn't care. Thrh r not a Christian program. Its strictly entertainment. I've already heard about alcohol being provided at the Dove Awards and even the music performers were drinking backstage. I think about as much of the Dove awards programming as I do for this guy who is not right. Anyone who brags about their great legs and thinks its cool to wear a dress and he's a man something evil and messed up about him. The world has gone nuts
But the WORST thing about Derek's stunt and pompous statements? Where was God in this? Derek blathers inanities that only sound profound to other people buzzing loud to drown out their conscience, but he's not even an immature Christian. He's just a brat. You're right--he does just want to be liked and he's made an idol of approval. What God thinks comes first. I just want to cry because he is spitting into Jesus' face by basically stating that holiness means nothing and rendering the cross as a joke. Just sad. So very, very sad.
I thoroughly enjoy this podcast and find it very edify. It’s nice to hear a Christian interact with culture and speak truth. I actually ran into him at church. Small world.

the word "artist" is a giveaway. God is looking for worshippers who worship him in spirit and in truth. The dove awards are worldly. Imagine winning an award for best singer. Give me a break. God is not impressed !
Never knew who he was to begin with. Sounds like everyone forgot about him and he’s conjured up this schtick to gain attention. Incredibly sad what people will do for the attention of others. For anyone who thinks this man’s performances are being done as an ally please think again. This is someone desperate for attention and will even use a “cause” to get it.

Derek, needs to enter a rehab and deal with his alcoholism. He released a song a couple of years ago about a praise to alcohol. Let me post the lyrics:

I’m glad other people honestly are starting to see the darkness in Christian music. I knew he was married to the lead singer from I AM THEY. And finally, he was able to pull her away from that band and I believe, in Christ too. But more and more, we are seeing these CCM artists, simply using the gift God gave them to recognize themselves, not glorify HIM.
Derek seem to really go off the rails when he had an affair on his first wife, Sandra McCracken. Sandra is still a committed believer so she's better off without him. CCM industry is just an industry. It may have once held some standards but I think the pretense has dropped. You have to use your own discernment and do a lot of separating the message from the messenger.

The concept of awards for Christian music is wrong, not a blessing, praising the music instead God.
The Bible knows only one way to treat weird events. Shaking the dust from the shoes and left them alone.

Not so sure God is pleased with giving awards at who praises Him the best in the first place.
Thank you for that. You can't blame the whole body for the wrongs of a few members. Unfortunately that happened with my aunt. She was a Christian and had a business with another Christian, but something happened between them and totally turned her against Christianity. To the point of turning to Judaism. It's sad because she passed away a few years ago from colon cancer. I pray she worked things out with God by the end.

That’s actually a really good question. What is it within the heart of every man that craves attention? We were created to be noticed by God and if we don’t really know Him, we have a huge hole in our heart and people will go to desperate lengths to fill it.

Thank you for speaking the truth! You said what needed to be said for all of us! All that’s left is for Christians to remember is Acts 5:29, we must obey God rather than man, and John 12:43, for they seek the praise of men more than the praise of God. When we do that, we love the world, not God, which Jesus warns us about!

@@TannerTracks I saw him in 2006 doing a rooftop concert sponsored by a church in Durham. He seemed to be doing okay then. But I bought Stockholm Syndrome album and knew that this guy had lost his moorings. You stated it well---a weird and dark spirit about him. I guess all we can do is pray for him. God is infinitely capable!
