XC 6.0 has a higher discharge rate than XC 8.0 and HD 12.0
it uses Samsung 30T which able to crank up to 45 Ah while the 40T struggle discharging 30Ah
The 12 amp has 3 rows of them though? So 90 amps constantly?
Not a Hugh issue. The price difference between 6 and 8 is also only $20
45 amp per 21700m

from seeing quite a bit of these Milwaukee batteries
i can tell you that the board has a faulty design
it tends to deplete the first roll of cells where the test display panel, then second rolls
the oldest xc to the newer one uses the same design, not sure why they don’t take the time to fix this issue.
I think that the Milwaukee battery board does not have a balance mode? The charger stops charging when the voltage of any cell approaches 4.2V. I don't understand, such complex electronics, without BALANCER MODE???
thanks for the info currently both my 8's have miss balanced and my 12 is sus now my 6 amp has been used consistently on the 3/4 and inch rattle gun and is proving to be the best of the bunch as its the oldest and has be used the most, altho i do only use the 8 and 12 for the heavy duty stuff so maybe thats a factor
How many of these 12aH have I seen like this?....lost count. The reason this is occurring is that 1 or more of the parallel 3 cells self discharges slowly and pulls the other parallel ones down in voltage. Like the 3aH 30Q these cells have a significant problem with self discharge. Basically they are faulty when they self discharge like that. Charging them up will fix the problem for a while but eventually will repeat the problem. I disconnect the parallel cells after charging them and then see which one drops voltage after a few weeks, then I replace that cell using my quick method in one of my videos.
my new tip is the use and abuse the cells while under warrenty as they may fail at some point even if you treat them great
In my opinion DeWalt packs are superior because the board in the pack is just a thermal/low voltage cutout (also tells the charger how many amps it can handle) and all the balancing is done in the charger body. In the Milwaukee the balancing is done in the pack which is subject to much more abuse.
Not sure if it's still true with newer chemistry and manufacturing techniques, but not long ago, the mid/low capacity cells were just more robust and could take the punishment of high discharge/charge rates and keep on ticking. Don't know if it was because the thinner tighter packed high capacity membranes were thinner and more fragile or what. Have they figured it out? I finally had some packs fail on me, all had 3ah 18650 cells. Two were 9ah M18s with consecutive serial numbers(same plant, same date of mfgr) and one M12 3ah.
Great video, would love to hear more about the different chargers and your thoughts. Cheers!
So not Milwaukee but I have 2 AEG 6AH pro (the older non force) batteries which got so horribly out of balance i was utterly amazed. But in both of them, it was a single cell pair managing to charge up faster than the rest. The worst one was at 3.57v, 4.17v, 3.55v, 3.57v, 3.68v. I ended up using the guts of a old USB powerbank and soldering it onto each pair then manually charging them up with that. After doing that the packs have worked flawlessly for few months now. Makes me think the cells were never properly matched in the factory and just got worse and worse over time. I have a good 20ish AEG batteries, some 2Ah, 2.5AH, 5AH, 6AH and all have been used in the same tools and chargers so i dont think it was anything i had done
I've had nothing but problems with my M18 batteries self discharging rapidly and then irrecoverably dying. Wish I had never purchased Milwaukee portable M18 products. I think they are coasting on their reputation and just screwing the customers.
Yeah I've had a bunch die but I've had a lot of them replaced under warranty
I buy the Cheaper XC Batteries at 5amps and just have several. I’ve had ALL , From what I’ve found They ALL put out about the same just don’t last as long. 5amp worked just as good in the chainsaw as the blower.
I Hate these batteries.... That is a $520 battery where I’m at, you can get 2 XC 8 amp for $120
6.0 high output batteries have Samsung 30T cells which will discharge more amperage than the Samsung 40Ts in the 8.0 and the 12.0. The 6.0 will give the tools more power than the 8.0 and nearly as much as the 12.0. For whatever reason, I have had much better luck with the 6.0. Both my 8.0 and 12.0 have dropped cells while my 6.0s are still going strong. I think that the 30T is just a more robust cell than the 40T.
Agree on the robustness
in the process of doing this right now to 2 12ah batteries and a 9ah battery.
bloody garbage. hopefully i get some more life out of them. (they died while i was off work for 6 months due to injury.)
meanwhile iv got piles of 3 and 5ah batteries with no issue that are pushing 10 years old
Ive saved a few dozen batteries at this point. Sad that they go this way.
I'm now buying new batteries every 2 years constant to keep them in warranty. And sell or personally recycle for cells when they fail
Waking them up 👍
Yeah those lazy center cells are not doing their fare share 🙄
Hi, can I replace the 18650 batteries in the slim m18 with new 18650 batteries from amazon.
Sure can just use matched cells
I switched from dewalt to Milwaukee a few years ago, (ran dewalt 20v from 2011 till 2019) almost all the batteries are still functioning today but at reduced capacity.
But I have 8x5ah, 2x8ah 2x9ah 4x12ah m18 batteries 4x2ah and 4x6ah m12 batteries. I have so far had to warranty 7 of those m18 batteries and 2 of the m12 batteries... Milwaukee has been making great tools but I am very disappointed in their batteries.
Yea I made started to make the switch to Milwaukee and literally all my batteries that came with the tools have died on me. Meanwhile all my old dewalt batteries are still going strong years after
What ones failed mate
@@Oneupthesleevecustoms off the top of my head I have two M18 12ah batteries that have failed one under warranty. A m18 8ah H.O. 3 m18 5ah red 1 m18 6ah H.O. and 2 m12 6ah
@@bronson2585 exactly the same experience. Not sure what is causing my Milwaukee batteries to die on me but I didn't have this issue with my dewalts. Infact I think Ionly had 3 DeWalt batteries completely die on me in the past 10 years.. and they were quite old.
Wow you've had a run. The 12.0s do the out of balance thing?
I think imbalance might come from fact that they are not matching internal resistance which over time makes difference
Yep I don't know why they should be well made cells
Did this end up being a long-term fix?
Many months. They will never be the same sadly. It's like cell damage has happend
Top-notch work!
So what is the fix to save the battery?
re balance the cells that are low mate
So does the old slow charger help with this issue?
It does give it longer to balance as they charge
Hi there! Sorry for the silly question in advance. My 12.0 feels really week(charges/discharges really quick) also and probably has the same issues as shown in this video. But how i can charge it without that charging station? a have basic milwaukee 2212-20 voltage tester(can i test battery with that?) and only car battery basic charger projecta mc400 beside milwaukee chargers for sure. Pretty sad story for me because i was using this battery only for my chainsaw and charged it just about 20-30 times but out of warranty for sure. THanks in advance
Cells are out of balance. Open and test with multimeter
A BMS that doesn't use capacitor banks to balance charge has a very small ability to adjust for variance between Series cells.
The voltage range where balance charge & voltage cutoff is limited, too.
Your two examples both failing in the 3rd of 5 series sections tells me there's a flaw in the BMS design that doesn't properly manage balance charging and/or low voltage cutoff.
That tells me any balance charging is minimal, and most of it is occurring by parasitic drain from charged cells to undercharged cells internal to the pack (not through the charger).
That's really disappointing, especially considering how incredibly expensive Milwaukee battery packs are - 15 Samsung INR21700 40T cells can be purchased wholesale for as little as $60.
I'd almost rather build my own packs using a 3D printer to fab the housing, and buy or build my own BMS.
It would be less than half the cost of the 12ah for the same components (minus the Milwaukee sense/communication feature).
I have a 12.0 High output, and all 3 of my cells are reading 4.175 v. Wont charge, doesnt work in any tools. Im stumped
Are you getting 20 to 21v on main contacts? Broken spot welds?
@@Oneupthesleevecustoms 16.92v on main contacts. 4.129v, 4.175v, and 4.177v
@Oneupthesleevecustoms jumped pins 2 and 7 following your video, appeared to successfully perform a reset. But still same results
There is 5cells in series and 3 in parallel?.
You should have 3 rows of 5
I like your style.
What happen if Put 21700 45ah?
You would have to do all the cells
Can you take out the dead cells and recharge them ??
Yes you can
@@Oneupthesleevecustoms Thanks, now where did I put my volt meter ?
Going to have to watch more of you taking them apart.
we are waiting for more videos!

Fix stuff
Yeah, I can fix lots of things, not evrething.
When the 9ah m18s came out, I bought 4. All 4 failed within warranty. And then they failed again.
From that original 4 battery purchase, I made 5 warranty claims before the 2 yr warranty period expired. They have all gone weak again. But are well out of warranty now.
Is that something you have seen? I notice you can't even get the 9ah anymore.
They would have cost Milwaukee millions. I have recycled prob 100 of them..
They go out of balance and kill 3 cells then the bms dies
@@Oneupthesleevecustoms can they be "fixed" ??? The 4 I have now are on the way out. They still work well. But I can tell they are degrading. And know from experience they will fail fully pretty soon. Is it possible to salvage them before they die fully?
Balance the cell packs b4 the bms smokes itself
What's the easiest way to do that? Sorry newb to lithium cells.
Dedicated effort
when are you gonna post again?
I got 3) M18 12.0 1) M18 9.0 and 4) M12 6.0 that are trash 😂 good job milwaukee
Yep try return them under warranty first but you can open them up and try save them
@Oneupthesleevecustoms if i had the right tools but I don't they are just collecting dust and they are almost brand new
@excdalmt7807 where do you live
I'd be interested in buying them if your in Australia
@@Oneupthesleevecustoms sorry i live in texas
Doesn't look like a genuine m18 milwaukee battery.
They are, branding is different in Australia,
