the fact that there is a vocaloid song with my favorite vocaloid using my favorite instrument (the hurdy gurdy) instantly makes this one of my favorite songs ever
this definitely isn't 100% accurate and i took a LOT of creative liberty with the phrasing of some parts, but i've been working on a cover of this song, so i attempted to translate the lyrics! Tabibito No Uta - The Wayfarers / The Traveler's Carol - With the breath of the stars and the tears of my hometown - When the sands form a whirling mirage, Hark, distant days whisper round. Where sorrow bleeds into compassion, This sacred harmony ever resounds. As this faded tale flickers to dusk, Bygone memories flood through my mind. If someday our oath ebbs to naught, Pray, release it adrift to the skies. I’m but a feeble traveler, Casting my life to the sands. He’s yet a mighty wayfarer, Casting his fate to the winds. With the buzzing strings of this melody, A handful of memories is laid. With the droning loop of this melody, A ray of light intertwines with the shade. In time with the pounding thrum of the heat, At this moment, my heart gently aches. In time with the throbbing hum of the beat, At this moment, my heart lightly quakes. I’m but a nearsighted traveler, Chanting this carol of poise. He’s yet a well-rounded wayfarer, Chanting this carol of yore. The footprints revealed by our journey ahead Are soon cast away in the gale. Yearning for that bitter lash of the wind, Onwards, we trek this cobbled trail. At the end of the line, you drift into sleep, Embraced by iridescent dreams. One day, perhaps, we’ll at last reach our aim: The true origin of all that remains. I’m but a shallow traveler, Singing of all that I’ve seen. He’s yet a boundless wayfarer, Singing of all still to be. I’m but a feeble traveler, Casting my life to the sands. He’s yet a mighty wayfarer, Casting his fate to the winds. - With the breath of the stars and the tears of my hometown - - And the grief of days long gone by. - TL notes: - I translated 言霊 (kotodama) as ‘sacred harmony’ as there’s no exact equivalent in English, but it refers to a traditional Japanese belief that certain words/names can evoke mystical powers.
@Animefreakeoutgirl4 It's called The Song of The Traveller / Traveller's Song. It doesn't feel like this is a very well known song, though, so you're better off using some youtube video to mp3 conversion site to directly convert this video rather than searching fruitlessly. xD ;
+Ricardo Rodrigues Yep, the picture (and it sounds like the tune) use a hurdy-gurdy. You start by turning the crank on the side, and then play it (I believe there are keys for the strings?). You're not far off on the bagpipes - they're often paired with them in music because they have that similar droning sound.
I'm trying to convert the Vsq to a ust so my utau can sing it. I have the lyrics from Piapro and I'm translating as I go so that I can add subs to the video. it may take a while since my Japanese isn't very good but I know where to get the meanings of the Kanji and TBH I've seen worse translating jobs than what I can do. So I say bring it on! Lol.
Piapro. You can also get the Japanese lyrics there like I already said. It requires membership to download, though. It's great to fine obscure off-vocals of other tracks, too. I'm working on some Ushi-P covers, too and that's where I got the off vocals to work with.

Tabibito No Uta - The Wayfarers / The Traveler's Carol
- With the breath of the stars and the tears of my hometown -
When the sands form a whirling mirage,
