- After my boxers in fighting games list, people have been asking for a deeper looking into the world of projectile-less hand-to-hand combat characters in fighting games. Most notably, the wrestler has been on this list of requests, so that’s what’ll be covered in this list. I’m going over my favorite fighting game wrestlers who bring on the techniques, flair, and are some great faces (or even heels if applicable).

Fun Fact: Wolf's backstory in Virtua Fighter is a reference to Andre the Giant. When Andre started wrestling in France, promoters billed him as a giant lumberjack from the woods outside of Grenoble, France who was found by a wrestling promoter and was convinced to get in the ring.
#1 should be King. The series of grappling and striking techincs is the most wide in the history of games. Also, you missed Stun from Bloody Roar.

Fun Fact: The mask Ramon is holding is Blue Demon's Mask, one of the most iconic masks in Lucha Libre history, besides El Santo. Check for the design and compare to it.
I have just mention that little fact a moment ago.
I didn't know that. It's funny since no one ever took Blue Demon Mask. But that would be funny if Ramon have more mascaras on his collection, alluding to Mil Mascaras, LA PARKA, El Santo, Negrocasas, Rayo de Jallisco.

My #1 would be King because of his 3D moveset, making it more technical to grapple and stuff like it would be in real life!
Haggar also has a 3d moveset.

I really like Tizoc. I've been playing fighting games ever since Street Fighter II and The King of Fighters '94, but never was interested in the wrestler types. Until Mark of the Wolves, which is a game I loved so much that I put on the extra effort to master all characters, instead of simply knowing how to fight them back. So I played Tizoc a bit and loved his flashy style.
I think Clark from KoF series deserved a honorary mention, as well as a quick overlook to the Saturday Night Slam Masters 1 and 2. It's a game about wrestlers, after all.

Tina is a mix of a Brawler and Technician in term of wrestling. She have mad skills on holds and submission but her strikes are pretty rude as well... so yeah... she's pretty good in term of that (would totally kick any woman in the WWE Female Division... expect Asuka and Ember Moon... i think...)

The Lucha Underground wrestler, Angelico, always reminded me of the no.8, Ramon from KOF. Has a very similar green/black/yellow color scheme, attitude and fighting style. Wonder if any of it's intentional... I mean, heck, between guys like Kenny Omega, "Mighty Mouse" Demetrious Johnson and of course Austin Creed, there's plenty of Pro-Wrestlers and Mixed Martial Artists who are huge, huge, _huge_ gamers nowadays. Anyway, great list! I wish RUclips recommended this channel to me sooner - I know I'm commenting on this months after it was posted, but hey, at least I discovered this channel eventually :)
Yeah #1 should be King from Tekken; literally the best representation of a wrestler in a fighting game with iconic moves like the people’s elbow, double-axe handle, lariats, moonsaults, and allll the chain grabs just to name a few.
Plus, he’s one of the longest-surviving wrestlers of any fighting game.
King is clearly the best wrestler ever. Zangief is the most iconic. Everyone else is cool though.
Really Zangief iconic? I always thought king was more iconic since he is the only dude to wear jaguar head skin as a mask, while Zangief is just white mister T

Don't forget that after TTT2, King also got Jaycee as his partner not just Marduk (The pachislot machines xD). And that makes sense considering that King and Julia were already friends.
Though, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is considered non-canon. Meaning that Jaycee doesn't clearly exist

I’ll be honest, I was really sad to not see Pika Libre in the top 10. Her ultimate is so funny, and I love her.
You forgot Wolfgang Krauser from Fatal Fury 2, his appearance was even similar to the Phenom of the WWE, The Undertaker.
He's a tough one. You can barely land a hit on him 🤣
Why have Wolfgang when you can have The Undertaker himself since he was in King of Fighters All Star.

Kinnikuman deserves some props for being the anime/manga series that inspired a lot of the moves the characters in this list and other grapplers use, namely the Kinniku Buster, Kinniku Driver and Muscle Spark.
So for Muy Thai, when Bruce should have been #1, he wasn't. And with this, where King should have been #1, he wasn't.

Raiden should have had a bit more in the honorable mention since he's one of the only wrestler characters I've seen so far who incorporates the concept of heel and face; Raiden is him as a heel, and Big Bear is him as a face.

Actually the mask that ramon is holding is the one of a real life wrestler called Blue Demon, I read somewhere that Blue Demon is the master of Ramon and that mask is a gift.

Angel is one of my favorites
Romon is holdin Blue demon´s mask. Blue demon is one of the oldest and very important legends of the mexican wrestlenig industry of the contry. Ramon has teh privilege to knew this legend and he has one of Blue demon´s mask ;)
King's mask actually forms part of the Incan Trinity of sacred animals (Puma, but in case of King, a Jaguar). The other two are condor (Tizoc, but is actually called Griffon Mask) and snake (King of Dinosaurs AKA Tizoc in KOF14). I guess the snake can't be fitted well in a wrestling mask. Tizoc even likes "Legendary Masks" in his profile at 15:17

Little detail, the mask that Ramon is holding in his hand is the mask of a famous Mexican wrestler called "Blue Demon", and yes, his name was on English, he and another wrestler called "El Santo" (The Saint) made many movies, besides being wrestlers.

Fun fact: there was a actual wolf hawkfield i mean real wrestler played gimmick of this wrestling character in 90's in all Japan pro wrestling.
I think they had a tie up with virtua fighter game in that time.
Another fun fact: all Pro wrestling had wrestling games where all the virtua fighter wrestlers included with the real life wrestlers in the roster.

One odd ball I like but I whould not put on the list is Cyborg 16 from Super Dragonball. There they made him a wrestler. Upgrade him to full and he have a combo that can delete the opponents health bar in no time.
Don't know if you knew this or if someone mentioned this already, but there was an American wrestler Jim Steele, who had most of his success in Japan wrestling for All Japan Pro Wrestling when he changed his gimmick to Wolf Hawkfield, as a tribute to the Wolf Hawkfield from Virtua Fighter. He basically cosplayed as him lol but he's also been featured in some Japanese wrestling games, such as the Fire Pro series. Great list! I'm a huge wrestling fan and I always gravitate to wrestlers in fighting games lol.

He is a Russian guy with a spanish name who wears a gi but fights with wrestling moves.
Yeah, he is an unknown weirdo, but his moves are actually really fun. He deserved at least an honorable mention in this list.

Fun fact the guy from the Dial M For Monkey Episode was called Rasslor he was voiced by the real Macho Man Randy Savage and not just an actor doing a take of the famous wrestler. Rasslor is also meant to be a parody of the Marvel character Champion Of The Universe.
I didn't know about the Champion of the Universe fact. That's cool! I was thinking about going into the Macho Man fact since I remember being amazed by that when I learned about it a few years ago, but I didn't want to go on too much of a tangent. I'm glad someone else got the reference!
Ya know that rainbow Mika and her partners super move is a reference to the manga kinnikuman where he and Terry man go for the muscle docking but instead it's a two man kinniku buster

I always wanted Mike Hagar to be in Street Fighter especially back in 4. I mean if Cody, Guy, Poison, and Hugo can be in the games, why not Hagar? I mean yeah he more or less had the same moveset as Zangief but Capcom could have twiked his moveset a little bit to be different.
Either I missed it or it wasnt mentioned in the comments, but the idea of Wolf eventually in 1997 when the promotion All Japan Pro Wrestling used the character and gave the gimmick toWrestler Jim Steele in 1997
