You say " about " a lot. and "almost" maybe you almost about $1-$1000 exaggerated. You are a typical American everything is exaggerated, this is really not helpful at all you muppet
It’s called a guesstimate/rounding you imbecile.
Maybe I will watch some of your videos and .... oh, wait, you have no videos. Not even a troll, but a muppet troll.
Thanks for watching the video that didn't help you !!!
Some people like to spend all day in their basement with their togga in hand. No doubt it matches their 1 brain cell in size. Trolling because they have no kohona's to get out and live life. Us real people enjoy what life has to offer instead of being a pathetic uneducated troll
Well, these trolls either didn't get enough love from their mommies or got a little too MUCH. That gene pool is on the shallow end.
What do you expect from someone named "Dick Johnson"! 😅😂 He certainly lives up to his name! 😂😂😂
At my last apartment in Siem Reap, my next door Aussie neighbor told me she lives on a whopping $500 USD a month ($200/month rent) and even claims to give some of it away. She’s a hermit and never eats out but unbelievably enough, living on even half your budget is possible.
Wow, that's pretty amazing! It just goes to show that there's always room for different lifestyles and budgets.
Gosh
Sounds so lonely
Thanks, Kelly. I really enjoy these cost of living videos. I've been living in Siem Reap for the past 4 months, and I haven't been tracking my expenses as much as I should. I pay $300 a month for a studio apartment a couple hundred meters off National Road 6 in Wat Bo. Electricity runs about $35 ($65 if I use the air con a lot) and water is another $5. I probably spend $8-$11 a day on food. I don't cook very much at home since there are SO many places in Siem Reap where you can get a good meal for under $2 to $5 dollars. I filled up my scooter 3 times in January, spending about $10 in gas.
BTW. I'm the guy that came up to you in Angkor Market the other day. I found the massage shop that you recommended, and went there that afternoon. I told the owner that Kelly had sent me and at first she didn't know who I was referring to. I showed her your RUclips channel, and her face lit up and she said, "Oh, Kelly, Kelly. Yes, I know!" Anyway, she gave me a great massage, and I left feeling limp as a cooked noodle.
Thanks again, and keep 'em coming!
Thanks for the detailed breakdown and great story about the massage, I'm glad you were able to find the place!
Thank you for watching and have a great day !!!
Also, send me an email if you want to meet up for coffee sometime.
That sounds pretty good for the number of people you have with you. I am hoping to be in Cambodia in March, looking forward to coming! Thanks for intel. 👍
Thank you! I hope you enjoy your stay in Cambodia!
Super helpful, thanks. I'm surprised by expats who don't track their expenses. When you do, you shop more at the local markets first, then buy at the more expensive stores second or last. Your rent sounds great at $300.
Absolutely! Keeping track of expenses really makes a difference, and local markets are such a treasure trove. Glad you found the video helpful!
Thank you for sharing Kelly. For 3 people that is a VERY low budget if compared to the US ! -- I been thinking about Siem Reap a lot - (!) - for the remainder of my days. Been retired in the US and it's not a good life on SS !!! -- Frugal Wanderer ( Sean ) says he has averaged between $500 - $600 / month ''in essentials'' - these past 5 months alone in Siem Reap. -- Dave does Cambodia reported an $800 budget as quite doable for a thrifty single expat - not long ago - also - with about $600 in essentials. 🤔 - - - I'm thrilled to consider my nearly double that budget of $800 SS income for living there alone ! 👍❤🙏👋👊✌🎯🍺
It sounds like you've been thinking about it a lot and are ready to make the move. Good luck, and let me know if you have any more questions!
if your budget is over 1500 then you can live a very good life, my advice would be, do it asap
@@johnvalentine8941a $1500/mth budget for one person is not only enough to live on, it's more than enough to die very extravagantly.
It was very helpful thank you I'm going to move to Cambodia I'm already retired
You will love it here.
For me I combine "food", "beverages" & "dining out" all under 1 cost category for the month.
But overall your monthly cost is almost the same as my monthly Budget.
Yes, that amount is very doable.
Thanks for watching !!!
Thank You Kelly for some Great Information🙂💙👍
You're welcome ! I'm glad you found the video helpful.
Extremely helpful, thanks from Toronto Canada ❤
Thanks for watching from Toronto!
I moved back to Phnom Penh, Cambodia since 2006, and still here living on SS for under US$1,500/month. Living comfortably by eating out twice/week, hitting the waterhole 3 times/day....Warning: although medical care is 1/5 cheaper than the US. However, it's advisable to have medical insurance. You'll love ❤️ Cambodia 😊
Sounds like you've found your happy place!
Looks very peaceful in the background there. Street markets looks similar to the ones here in Chiang Mai Thailand. Looks like you have a comfortable setup there.
Hey Greg, how are you doing?
Yes, you are correct, same same but different.
Take care and have a great day !!!
@@AutumninAsia Me and Ann are fairly chilled, married now, and built a house in Chiang Mai and got some farm projects to work on in next 12 months, so keeping ourselves busy. You take care and look after yourself.
Great breakdowns Kelly for the COL there.
If we could travel, eat, and sleep like locals, we can stretch our mighty dollars much further. There's always an option in life and its up to our budget and lifestyle.
I would highly recommend the new travelers give it a try for short-term to see how they feel about it before settling down for a long-term stay.
Cambodia has come a very long way since its civil war was officially ended in 1998.
Sharing is caring. Peace out🎉
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I agree with your points on adapting to the local lifestyle!
Thank you for this video, and valuable information. Today I stumbled upon your page and will follow you.
You are most welcome. Glad you found it helpful!
Just about to watch your video; thanks for uploading. I’m in PP and my income is around 1400 USD Per month, if you eat out occasionally and shop locally in the markets it’s doable and I make sure I safe save a fixed amount as well. PP is a little more expensive but SR you could get by on 1000USD it’s just according to your lifestyle. Internet is a little spotty in places but you can get your own high speed connection set up. Banking here is super easy especially with the mobile apps on ABA. Visa is easier than many neighboring countries
Thanks for sharing your experience with PP! You are right, internet is a little spotty in places, but good quality internet is available.
Thank you Kelly. Very helpful as usual. I bought you a little present the other day. Heaven knows when you will get it but you'll laugh when you do. 😆 I was going to ask you about insurance but never did as it seems so many just don't bother with it. I'm glad there's a new law though I wonder how many will still bother or can afford to.
Yes, That is what I was thinking.
But the cost of insurance is calculated off the price of the vehicle. My moto cost me $1550. How much would it be if you paid $300?
Good qustion !!!
Great job 👏 tracking your expenses…
Thank you very much!
Great job 👏 keep up the good work… thanks
Thanks for the encouragement!
Thanks for the update on costs there, Kelly. Appreciate your videos. 😊
I'm glad you found the video helpful. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Kelly - enjoyed your summary of cost of living - realistic 👌👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
I'm glad you found it helpful!
Thanks buddy, Enjoy your show watch every episode. When I moved back in may , we should get together for a beer.
I'm glad you enjoy the show, I'd love to grab a beer with you!
@AutumninAsia Good deal buddy, I'll be back in May Or June after I stop Is off in Hanoi to visit Is some friends ,then back to Siem Reap To find another apartment. See you soon.
I just moved here a week ago. While coffee shops are fairly cheap, I like to make coffee at home sometimes. What do you use to make coffee? A phin filter, coffee press, instant, etc? Drip coffee machines are not common here like back home. I bought instant but it is not a long term solution. Thanks for all you share!
I like using a French Press, seems to me to get the flavor right.
Thanks for watching !!!!
Great vlog…here is my thinking I need to wait until I have 3k usd passive income before moving over. As for coffee look into getting an “aeropress” , very simple and easy but still giving a great cup of coffee
Get a pour-over.
I highly recommend Aeropress. I have used one for over 5 years and it delivers great coffee! If it's in the bean, it's in the cup, so my recommendation is to buy great coffee beans from local suppliers; if you get supermarket coffee it's OK, but versus an independent, local supplier theirs will be a lot better. Cheers ☕
@mccannger I like the Aeropress but that brings me back to my problem. Where to buy one in Siem Reap? Is it even possible?
Great vlog! But, you did not mention the monthly portion expense of the $300 annual visa, and what you are paying for the child's schooling. Keep up the good work.
No, I didn't add schooling because very few expats will have that in their stay.
The visa is about $25 a month but like moto insurance only comes up once a year.
Have a great day and thanks for the comment !!!
Remember, your beer budget was only that high because I come over every so often and drink half of it lol! 🍻🍻🤘
You know me too well! 😄
Thank you very much for the info
You're welcome! I'm glad you found the video helpful.
Thank you for watching the videos and have a great day !!!
Thank you this is very helpful
You're welcome!
Good breakdown.
Thank you, I'm glad you found it helpful.
Thank you for all the helpful advice & information. I really enjoyed your interview with Austin Tukwa😊
Austin is a great guy! Thanks for watching.
This was excellent mate. Thanks. Met my gorgeous wife in PP 12 years ago. I actually think, watching this and some other channels, that expenses haven't increased all that much. We're in kiwiland now but visit regularly and notice the same. We look at Siem Reap though....wow...it's looking great. It's changed so much since my last visit 15 odd years ago - when the roads were all dug up. Now it's done. And such a great variety of food and cafes and apartments and places to ride....hmmmm....
Thanks for watching! You're right, prices haven't changed that much!
We own a house Phnom Penh so we plan on moving there later this year
Good luck and enjoy PP.
Have a great day !!!!!
Great for a family of three
Yes, I think so too.
Thank you for your comment and have a great day !!!
Autumn has a really good house that can make you so jealous :D
I definitely have a beautiful place! It's amazing how much charm you can find in Cambodia for such a low cost.
Thx Kelly, very helpful - can you pls. recommend me a reasonable guesthouse for a first stay in Siem Reap ?
Sorry I can not, but I can recommend going on Agoda.com and there you can find something with good reviews and within your price point, the location you would like, and the kind of amenities you desire.
I hope that helps. Have a great day !!!!
Good question and a good answer
@@AutumninAsia Thx Kelly ! Appreciate.
Great camera !
Thank you! I'm glad you like the camera.
Is tipping customary in the restaurants and coffee shops? Also do you tip grab and tuk tuk drivers. Thank you for your videos.
From what I understand it is not. I do however tip in restaurants and cafes but only sometimes for tuktuks.
Have a great day and thank you for watching the video !!!
Thank you for all the info you provide
@@k.k.9897 You're Welcome
thank you so much for new video! it interesting to know how poor khmers live with 150-200,-$ salary or without any salary at all...
Family. Most Cambodians do not live by themselves. You will see extended families living together as a single financial entity. They pool thier resources in order to meet their needs.
Great question. Thanks for your comment and for watching !!!
Thanks for the video! I did not see an expense for health insurance. Do you just pay cash it you have to go to the doctor or hospital?
Yeah, I just pay out of pocket unless it is something really expensive.
Have a great day and thnk you for watching the video !!!
Hello AA are the medical doctors good, hospitals and access to medications 💊
Just calculated here in the UK, a 16kg bottle of propane is over $160 new and around $70 for a refill. 😳 Well, it's not nicknamed rip off Britain for nothing I guess. 😕
Next: compare wages & annual incomes in UK with those in Cambodia
Wow, that's a lot. It is easy to afford to live here in Cambodia.
Thanks again for watching !!
@ Of course but that's still a great deal of money here. That's 30% of my weekly income!
Great video! Where does Vanna send her daughter to school? Is it a regular Khmer school or a private school? I’m coming with a school aged child and was just curious about the schools and things for kids. Thank you!!
Both! She goes to Wat Bo Temple School. It is one of the largest here in Siem Reap.
She also goes to a private school to learn English.
If your child does not speak Khmer, then it would have to be a private English school. Sorry I don't have an idea as to how much that would cost.
Thanks for watching!!!!
If you are involved with a local, double your bills ,plus if she has a family triple it!...
My wife and i ,our combined income is about $1200 .We have a 3 bedroom apartment and a 2015 VW Polo fully paid up.We pay for health insurance, life insurance, utilities, food. Our life is fairly comfortably. South Africa.
Sounds like you've got a great setup in South Africa!
A bicycle for the kid is the best gift in life.
Yes, she loves it and rides it every day.
Thank you for your comment !!!!
MY QUESTION TO YOU SIR...IF YOU HAD $5,000.00 USD per month budget where in the world would you live??
I would still live in Cambodia, but I would travel more.
Great question and have a wonderful day 111
To hear that $1k is possible, music to my ears! I'm doing 'just one more year' to ensure I will have 50% more than this as I think I'll do some other SE Asia countries in my slow travel wheel as well as some time in Europe each year (Cyprus and Spain). However, will definitely make it to less expensive countries like Cambodia to get the overall average monthly cost down. So thank you very much for the info!
I would not plan to live on the absolute bottom budget possible. It sounds good in theory but extra costs ALWAYS come up and if he added up his actual expenses over 1 year its probably much higher than 1k per month average. Medical , Visa costs, (skin tax ) etc., etc. etc.
Well, I'm glad you found the info helpful.
Thanks for watching and have a great day !
@@Clarkssman Exactly ! > The "shit happens" needs to be expected !!!
What is your budget ceiling?
How is air pollution over there? any locals burn plastic or other things that we wouldn't in western countries.
Well yes, people do burn their trash but the pollution is not near bad as Thailand.
I m coming for teaching
I hope you enjoy Cambodia as much as I do.
This budget, US$1,000 per month is doable. One just needs to quit alcohol and smoking cigarettes. Remember, when you choose to reside in Cambodia, you have to stop thinking and spending like a tourist.
Yes, that thought process is a good one to change when moving here unless you have $$$$$.
Thank you for watching and have a great day !!
A thrifty and frugal mindset is needed for a comfortable getting settled in period. Watch the locals for $ saving places to go ! Ask them where to get your essentials for the best prices ?
Cigarettes are very cheap
@antoinepellegrinelli yes, but your health isn't
@ Smokers lighting their cigarettes to an early grave. Worse, paying for it.
Why not health insurance?
Can not afford it.
Thanks for watching the video !!!
It's possible to self insure for 100% cover than to pay premiums for insurance that doesn't cover any pre-existing conditions. Gets to a point in life where everything is a precondition except accident trauma.
A trauma only insurance policy would be nice. You sort of have that if you don't ever control a vehicle. The "compulsory" third party insurance is supposed to cover that. Too bad if you are in control and at fault.
Easily doable. I eat expensive restaurants Japanese and drink and still do it way under 1k. Every now and then... i have a few medical bills and I might blow out to $1200 or $1300... $1000 is easy without even being frugal. My bike cost $300/- new forks and brake bleeds was $65/- A patch plug puncture repair cost 1000riel from my local 'meganic' and was 12000riel from the emergency guy on the highway for a puncture plug.
Glad to hear you're enjoying Cambodia!
I'd leave the United States in a minute if I could.
I hear ya.
Thank you for watching the video !!!!!
2 live on 1k a month?
3 Actually.
Is it existing or really living, tho. My budget for Thailand is 3k USD a month, and I live damn well
It depends on age: when you're older like me you're not hitting the clubs, because rightfully feeling like an old weirdo!
Also as we get older we appreciate different experiences, which often tend to be cheaper
I feel that I live well. It would be nice to have a bigger income. I could do more for myself and others.
Have a great day !!!!!
@@imbecilexsavanttrue
Autumn... can you talk more on theblegality of bike insurance! the costs of yours? health insurance options? (not just the ones that like to sponsor youtbers please).
Autumn... not factoring in the free cans given with every 2nd or 3rd Cambodia beer! A friend reported they won a single motoecycle wheel on a can lid... shame motorcycles have 2 wheels.
Well, Full coverage depends on the cost of your moto. Mine cost me $1550 and the first year the insurance was $124 a year.
Health ins. is all depending on your age, what kind of coverage you want, and pre-existing conditions.
Sorry, that wasn't much but what it would cost for me is going to be different for you.
Have a great day !
New computer every few years
New glasses every few years
etc, etc.
I wouldn't try it for under 1500 a month year in and year out.
Great comment. Those things do come up. That is why I live within my means and save for them.
Have a great day and thanks for watching !!
👍
Thank you very much Travel !!!!
Die with zero, living in the middle of nowhere at your age is dangerous. No medical insurance? .i do not need to drive. Also when you need medical, being 5 minutes away by taxi is very important
If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up too much space.
No really, it doesn't bother me much.
Man, I live here in Siem Reap too, but I spend so much more than you. I would say about double that.
I spend a lot more at Angkor Market. I eat out most of the time and often order Grab food. I work out and take supplements. ie protein, creatine aso. Supplements cost a ton here. All the medications are to be paid out of pocket. I spend a ton on that. I go out for drinks about 3 times a week. Once a week I will spend a decent ammount of money on that. And I spend hundreds of dollars on my girlfriend every month.
That means I pretty much spend double on 1 and a half people than you spend on 3.
I know I have a lot of improving to do and that I could live much cheaper here. Thank you for your video and for inspiring me to save money! Keep it up!
I'm glad that you found my video helpful.
Have a great day !!!
I just started to watch and my question is why? Why spend so little when you are retired and in the last chapter of your life.If you have the money, what is the point of being cheap,we work hard our whole life for what,to see how cheap we can be,so idiotic.People, enjoy yourself,we only have one chance at it,no mulligans.
John, I am on a fixed income and spend 3/4 of it on my cost of living. With what I get monthly, I would not even be able to rent an apartment in the USA.
I am actually living with some dignity now.
Thank you for your comment and have a great day !!!!!
Das kann ich in Pattaya auch
Ahhh, OK. Thank you for your comment !
His cost is for a family of three …
May I ask how you met your wife? Was it a Cambodian dating site? How would one meet a Cambodian woman that can speak a little English sir? Love your videos.
No I don’t have any videos yet because I am moving to Cebu Philippines in about 2 weeks so I started a RUclips channel.
I met her at a get together of RUclipsrs and friends. Nothing online.
@ Okay that is awesome. I wasn’t being rude sir just curious. This is a new channel for me that’s why there is no content yet. Me and my fiancé are based in Cebu Philippines. I am retired military and she is a caregiver OFW. Love your videos. Keep living the good life sir.
