In an album tracklisting, it is "Single" when they decided to have to put this tune as a single, they were, sort of, forced to change the name to "Single-Billingual", because of the other band, "Everything But The Girl" have just put out the single, entitled "Single". So, not to be confused they decided that single version of "Single" will be entitled as "Single-Billingual" :)
My sentiments exactly- Thankyou! I think John Hurt reciting the lyrics, would have just been the pinnacle of Pop Art for a Promo. Sadly not. You are truly a fan - this is a return to form after Very. Ace : D
Are these tracks really connected in the album or they're just connected in this special version? Anyway they're my favorites from single-bilingual besides of "it always comes a surprise"
This couplet spoke to me as a frightened hetero male afraid to connect with women who I knew liked me and were waiting for me to make the first move...I'm going out, and carrying on as normal...
I love thos song. I just wish there were an unmixed album version that doesn't transition into Single, and I wouldn't be forced to have both tracks in sequence. And no, the single version on Gurther Listening is not a suitable sobstitute for me: too gimmicky vs the sheer class of the origina
years ago I used Audacity and took all of the album version of Discoteca, 90% of the album version of Single, and the ending of the 7 inch version of Single to create a version with a proper ending that doesn't sound like it needs to rush into Metamorphis (which I could never stand). To this day I'll never understand why they never included better non-album tracks on the album in lieu of some of the weaker Bilingual tracks. (The Boy Who Couldn't Keep His Clothes On, Betrayed, The View From Your Balcony, and maybe Somewhere would have all fit nicely over Metamorphis and Electricity, for starters.)
These songs always fill me with a sense of melancholy, in a very good way.
This album was created way ahead of it's time.
The loneliness is palpable, and yet there's so much heart there, yearning to connect. Poetic. Brilliant. Possibly my fave 2 PSB tracks of all time.

One of my all time fave bands. Have seen them 4 times on 3 continents and just love them!!

@Actuallysalemslot how insightful, it's so true, there's something really sad about it. Just like going to a club lonely.
i believe they had to change the name of the track because Everything But The Girl had their track also named Single come out at a similar time
@EpsilonLeonis that true m8

cowboystyle4 yeah they’re connected in the original album - single bilingual is also connected to the following track METAMORPHOSIS as well
connected - and the transfer always breaks my heart...... with? loneliness? desire? longing? bass? samba? drums?
