- Watch to learn how to remove a lawn mower deck from a Gravely® Pro-Turn® ZX commercial zero turn lawn mower. Even if you don't have a Pro-Turn ZX, follow along because the procedure to remove the mower deck on this unit is very similar to the mower deck removal procedure on other Gravely commercial units.
Have you cleaned under your mower deck this season? Cleaning the grass, dirt and debris from under your mower deck is critical to your mower cut quality. Learn how to improve mower cut quality.
I have a ZT-HD 48 that has almost 100 hours after 3 seasons of mowing my lawn in summer and chopping leaf in the fall. I was going to buy a mower jack before I watch this video. I didn't realize how easy it is to take the mower deck off to change blades and cleaning of the deck. Thanks for HBO..... 👍😁
This was very helpful because I plan on installing grease zirks in the spindles . I don’t understand why they are not on there it’s such a small thing that will make your spindles last
I've found these new videos (removing the deck and changing the belts) to be a solid benefit for Gravely owners. Keep up the great work and keep them coming.
Much appreciated,
Dave

Thanks, Dave! We really appreciate your feedback. We continuously add them, so stay tuned for more.
Excellent video and easy to follow instructions. I will be searching for the spindle replacement and or bearing replacements for the spindle video as well.
Just bought a used 2018 HD 42. No where for chute ejection. Is this a refab by previoys owner ? Like new with only 65 hours
How to adjust the tracking
I'm sure I can make one, but do you have a part number, by chance, for your spring tool that I have seen in multiple videos...???
Hi Joe, unfortunately we don't sell those, but we've learned that strong, thin rope works even better because it provides more leverage.
Wrap a generous length of rope around the spring and just pull it off the anchor bolt. Super easy!
It's funny you do not show removing the deck spring on both sides of the just the ez side. 😂
YES!!i was thinking the same thing 🤦♀️
Putting the spring back on the other side was a nightmare. I tried many things to improve leverage including their recommended rope trick but it didn’t come close. I finally resorted to undoing the nut until it was at the end of the bolt. Then I could put the spring in easily with my hand.
Then I used a deep 1/2” socket to drive the nut as far as I could. This left about 2” to go. This is the nightmare zone. I ended up using a ratcheting wrench and shoved a tool on the hook side for leverage. Then proceeded to work the wrench and tool up and down probably 500 times moving about 30 degrees each time. It took about 20 minutes and it was excruciating. I don’t plan to do this again 😂
the one side that has lift spring in a bad location i used a steel dog lead spiral stake to pull and unhook instead of spending a bunch of money to get a deep socket to loosen the bolt. the gravely manual does NOT say to loosen it, just to carefully remove the springs 🙄
Torque specs on zt HD 52 with x factor 2 deck? There's nothing in the manual about it.
You fail to mention how to remove the bushings from the drag links after you remove the bolts. Any help?
Mine popped right out with no effort
Why not just get a tall vehicle ramp. Like you change your oil with. Dr one tire up one ramp. And their your deck is exposed to clear all that from it without dropping the whole deck.
8/8/21, @Gravely, you have that thing sitting on a bench. Why do you need to take the deck off anyhow? I invested a few $$$ in a for my G/ztx42; you just cradle the front casters & crank it up to 45* angle, enough to get under & scrape off the crud/svc blades w/o worrying about the machine moving. Now I saw online a Hustler Raptor w/a feature where the deck upends to vertical position in a few steps to svc. Of course this machine was >$6K, 1st one I'd ever seen like that.
Could anyone tell me what the torque specs on the blades for the pro turn 260 is? Wasn't able to find it on the website due to the manuals not loading. Thanks in advance!
Thanks for asking, Lucas. And we're sorry that manual didn't load for ya. The blade hardware on our latest PRO-TURN 200-series models require 115 to 160 lb-ft of torque.
A bunch of Dug dugs
Dumb question? What size of socket for blade bolt? Is it okay to use impact gun to take blade bolts off? Thanks
Thanks for asking! The size of the blade nut will vary depending on your model and serial number, but you most certainly are able to use an impact gun to crack the hardware loose 👍
Fyi. The bolt size is 15/16 on the ZT-HD. I used an impact gun to removed the bolts.
Video doesn't tell you what metric size socket your going to need on blade spindles, had to go to another youtube video to find that out.
Cant get my drag links off after the bolt removal..
How to remove grass catcher from gravely mower zt3-00
I just take a blower to mine and it works fine. I just don't cut during morning dew.
I have a ZT1540. What type of oil do I need for the engine and also the transmission?
Thanks for asking, David. If you can tell us the 6-digit model number and 6-digit serial number of your unit, we'll gladly look up and send you that information.
Use synthetic 10W-30 engine oil in the engine of your mower and synthetic 20 W 50 engine oil in the transmission
No way. I have a gravely 160 but after this instructions I'm thinking next mower will be other brand... So complicated just to clean deck....
We're sorry you feel that way. If you have a lift, you can just remove the blades without having to remove the whole deck.
I only do this at the end of the season. I think it would be similar process for any mower brand except for front mount decks. Overall, this is pretty simple. I use a lawn mower jack to remove blades for sharpening during the season. The reason for deck removal for me is to gain easier access to wax the surfaces so it is easier to keep clean in the summer.
Wilfido Ayala Come on! Turn in your man card! 😜
