- This one's a little bit different insofar as we're looking at a Sony CDP-CX235 CD megastore. These units are great and very clever too. I bought this to down-scale the footprint of my CD collection only to find it didn't physically fit in my setup!
No chapters on this one as it's only short...
It's not a review but rather me just looking at how the unit works and would be like to live with plus the design.

I remember a friend of a friend having one of these which at the time I didn't know existed at the time and was blown away by how cool it was 😁
I have to say I was the same - actually until quite recently - was blown away that you could get a 400 disc version!
@MrBetaByte wow! 400 cds. I don't even own that many lol 😃
Just acquired one in a lot purchase. Cleaned it up, lubed a couple of spots. With the cover off, I just sat there and watched it load and unload. Speaking of which, the load/unload mech does seem finicky. I'm gonna try the optical out to an external DAC, as I'm not too impressed with the sound.
Have you checked the belt? I found the sound pretty good from mine but would be interested to hear if using the optical out worked out to be a lot better than the analogue outputs.
That tray with all the numbers printed around the edge reminds me of those old Kodak Carousel slide projectors. Also imagine having to manually input all the track titles for all 200 discs using the remote control, it would probably take hours if not days, so I can see why a keyboard would be a handy addition.
That's a perfect comparison and run that I couldn't quite make at the time! I remember I think it was a Kodak slide projector that had a numbered carousel that was grey; bit random but you've prompted a memory - thank you so much for sharing. 😊
For purchased discs, you didn't have to.
I myself have a Pioneer changer with a 100 disc capacity that needs some work; the VFD display is kind of dim so probably the high voltage supply needs some work.
A friend of mine has two Sony changers with 400 disc capacity, and those get so heavy that he needed help lifting them when he moved to a different house.
May well be the negative high voltage rail or the VFD itself has become leaky or over contaminated although Pioneer VFD's do tend to be good. I bet the 400 unit is very heavy relatively when full although they shouldn't really be moved once loaded as the disks might go astray and jam the mechanism and that can get messy!
Very wonderful sony every wonderful
Definitely wonderful and another crazy and great bit of Sony genius!
KSS-213B Laserunit😉We spared no expense or effort, but you have to save somewhere because the customer still has to buy a lot of CDs to fill the carousel.
I know! Very true 😊
Cool bit of kit but i would hate to have to take 200 discs out and put back in their cases.
Just 48 CD's made me start to reevaluate life choices!
Saludos MrBetaByte, cual es el modelo del control Remoto??? agradezco tu respuesta
I have to say, I don't know. I did look in the manual and it's not shown. I don't have the unit anymore either but I will see what I can find out for you.
