I have a S & W 4506. It was my Dad’s duty weapon. As the guy who posted the video says - this may be the most accurate pistol I own. I own several, and some of them I had shot many, many times so I am very comfortable with them. I was so surprised the first time I fired this weapon - kind of a Holy Cow! Bullseye! moment. Very impressive weapon.

S&W 4506 all the way!!!😜 I've had mine since 1997. I've put over 10,000 rounds through it and it's never had a jam up and/or failure to feed! FLAWLESS!
It's also spot on accurate. With solid Federal ammo 45 ACP 230 grain ammo, I could get really good one inch groupings @ 25 yards. Once again FLAWLESS!!!
It would be nice if S&W would bring these 3rd generation stainless steel pistols back into production.
Thanks for the awesome video review. It was very well put together. I both liked and subscribed!

Carried the 645 (first) then the 4506-1 as my duty weapon back in the 80's. Also had the 4516 for off-duty and plain clothes assignments. Great guns. Biggest mistake we ever made was leaving them for the plastic fantastic soulless Glocks. Today, I have been collecting a number of the S&W Gen 3 guns. I have 2 3913s, a 6906, a 4516-1, a 4566 and just got a 1006. These are outstanding. Of my 37 years as a LEO, these were my favorites among the semi-autos.

Thanks for this video. I've owned a 4506-1 since 1993 and love it. Your Kimber 1911 is one sweet looking piece.
A couple corrections. The sights on that 4506-1 are S&W's adjustable target sights. The optional Novak (combat) rear sights were fixed dove-tailed like the front. The grippy rubber wrap grip shown is a Pachmayr slip-on over the S&W OEM Delrin hard plastic grip. Most 4506-1 had straight stock grips, but there was a round-butt version of the hard plastic. The terrific round-butt rubber Hogue grips (I have these on mine) would be swapped for the OEM grips, and did not have the finger grooves like the Pachmayr.

I own a 3rd generation 4506. I can see the similarities to my 1911s. But the 4506 is heavier, thus recoil is softer. Never ever a missfeed or fail to eject, awesome 45 acp.

I am on a 4506 and a 1006 Smith & Wesson. I love both of them very accurate. I also own a Springfield version 10 1911 I still carry them periodically for personal protection. I work for Tyler Pd as an animal control officer.. My 4506 has the adjustable sites with the wings on it I also put Hog grips on it. My 1006 is the straight back not adjustable rear sites. I really like both of them. I tend to carry the 10 mm when I’m honey. I also own Glock 20.

My first Smith & Wesson Gen 3 was the 4566tsw which i still own and just recently found any S&W 4506 with the squared off trigger guard. The S&W was a bit tricky to break down at first but after awhile got the hang of it. Definitely need to careful when putting rhe guide rod and spring back into the Smith & Wesson as, learning the hard way the first time, it is under tension and will fly across the room if not put back in the right way.
Been looking for the wrap around grip for the 4566tsw and my 4506 once i bring it home for good.
Thank you for sharing this video

Beautiful firearms . S&W 4506 fantastic weapon will even take a full mag of fired brass and cycle them through the gun. Had never seen that before with a semi auto.

I have a 645 and a 4506 hard to pick the best. bought the 645 new it had been tuned for practial pistol , I also have a Kimber (i like 45's). My 4506 has adj. sights with ears. The S&W's are heavy but I carry one or the other without issue. Enjoy

The smith semis from 1-3 gen were the next step from the 1911 . Preference is up to the person . But the smith design had some advantages. Much more reliable out the box and can feed any ammo even empty cases . Can be carried hammer down with safety off for simpler manual of arms but requires after chambering to decock and put back on fire . Mag disconnect I don’t love or hate . But when clearing after dropping mag the weapon cannot fire is much safer than 1911 when clearing because the frame safety must be off to rack slide to clear . The 1911 has the better trigger but can be more ammo picky and I wouldn’t use cheap 1911 mags . Feeding and extraction the smith is superior. Only issue with smith is lack of support because all gens are discontinued but plenty of parts and mags out there but you must find them . I’ll put it this way I’ve never had a 1-3 gen any model jam ever . Had 9,40,45 models in all stainless , aluminum frames and blues and stainless and nickel models . Also the trigger reset on smiths have the best single action reset period in the da/sa category stock . When I let people at range use my 5906,5904 etc they can’t believe how short the reset is . I love them both . 1911 can be prettier and crisper trigger but the fit and finish and Reliability Of smith 1-3 gens are unequalled . Make sure on both designs keep rails lubed and not once a year cleaning if using it regularly at range. smith needs to make the 4 gen now .

Just happened upon this Vidio bought a 4506 new in ‘96 and was fortunate enough to convert it to 45super not long after. I’ve never looked back ,the extra weight makes it a great platform for the extra power. I’ve heard conversions aren’t available anymore, what a shame

@@mrlivemore I was told by Mr. Hinderman that there is more to it than that. He converted the 4506,performed a trigger job etc. The 1911 was converted in my dads machine shop, from a kit that I purchased from Mr.H .it contained more than just a guide rod and spring,I don’t recall what all was in it. Several magazine articles at the time had write-ups, maybe more info there,it’s been a while.

I've got a 745 which takes the same mags as the 4506 (according to the internet). I am trying to find extended mags to run on my 745 but I cannot find anything other than pro mag. I am told pro mag is garbage. So I am wondering if I can modify a 1911 mag to run in the Smith
