Thanks for teaching us trucks
Clear and helpful. Thanks v much. Newly minted UK artic driver here - just passed artic test. Feeling bit more confident now. Thanks again
Thanks for this excellent demonstration. It clarified things for me. It's so good to have this with quality sound and video quality.
Darlene Young happy to help

More on truck operations
I passed my HR in a Mack acouple of months ago and didnt get taught how to use it or need it to pass the test. Out here in Ipswich. Looking at going through you to do my HC.
This guy could pass as Winston McCalls brother from Parkway Drive.... Anyway man keep rocking that information!
I like this guy
i love all your videos and love the effort that u go to making them. I'm doing my HR licence test, which vehicle am i best to do my course in so i can buy a tipper or do work for people driving there trucks ???? theres so many bloody different truck types in gear boxes, which should i do it in ?????
Hi Wesley - the best licence to have is the HR (road ranger). This licence allows your to drive all rigid body trucks, moreover, you'll also have the best skills.
Ian Watson's Driving School - Motorcycle School and Truck School just after i wrote that message to u i went onto your website and seen what you'd put in relation to the hr and what u should drive to gather a wider range of skills etc. if only i lived in qld mate ur a great teacher.
When I did my test to upgrade my license from car to Heavy Rigid, there was no requirement on the test to learn how to use the Jake brake, but I wish there was, because I might need to drive to Adelaide and go on the very steep South Eastern Freeway or drive through Toowoomba?
I'm interested to come and work into your country. Your help is much appreciated
I love Volvo from this era, they had such amazing engine brake! Off the highway down to a roundabout, begin with 1 then 2 then 3 and knock a gear down if you need it!
Thanks to tich more
Just amazing ain’t it
"I've just come off my accelerator" - and no hands are needed. lol
Good tiching
Ride the brake in a truck like a car and youl quickly find out what its like to not have any brakes hahaha
Thank You for your help :]
Nice insights. It would be indicative if you hung some weight or mass or pendulum in the cab so we can see the braking effect, but I get the generally idea, thanks.
Who's here playing ATS/ETS2?
Great presentation. Thank you.
All I know about heavy road transport is what I sponge in on the internet.
Took note about a Jake brake. Impressive. But a costly addition.
Knew of an exhaust brake all along. But only knew about it.
Took note of a Voith retarder 45 years ago. And was hooked on its sheer practicality. But that was the end of it as well.
While putting my nose into matters again noted magnetic retarders. And while still reasonably ignorant to this fraternity. Deem the latter as an excellent and uncomplicated answer to this method of slowing down.
And surely at it's own cost,
Can the heavy vehicle owner/operators with specific long-term experience of any retarder usage please comment on the amount of of wear-saving/less maintenance down time on the service braking system of a heavy vehicle?
And. If possible. On lang haul. And local delivery situations.
Will be greatly appreciated to get it directly from truck owners with particular experience.
Many thanks.
Keep safe and God bless!!
I use both engine brake along with foot or trailer brake
Any advice on how to properly use engine break on mercedes arocs? driving a fully loaded truck downhill for a length of 2.5km
@ArmageddonRacing yes it has a retarder... Only the 3rd option for it has any effect. But some warning shows up on the screen when the engine goes down to about 1500rpm... The speed at which i want it to go is 20kmh or less
3 stage engine brake probably the same as the Volvo. I have driven both and they are much the same. I never use engine brakes when empty. Be mindful on wet roads in older trucks when empty if you are using as it can lock the rear wheels.
Nice info. Show us in manual transmission
So how does it work ?
I say make this video standard viewing for all car-license applicants... it would help their journey as much as ours.
Do you have contact details of companies who employ overseas candidates?
Good evening, I encounter certain problem volvo fl 12 ,start well and running for at least 30 minutes, and suddenly stop,so I need u contribution
Yikes!
I'd check the fuels supply, then the electrics... then call a mechanic.
(sorry I can't be of more help).
Great info, thanks. The video might benefit from a little editing possibly? Thanks very much thanks very much
do they signal at the back with the break light?
no they don't, only with the footbrake will people behind notice the brake lights on.
Sgodo Jinsem no they don’t. Most truckers will use it all the time, so if it did it would be very annoying watching the brake lights going on all the time,
Also it’s a gradual resistance type of effect & car drivers if paying attention will be able to stop due to noticing they are getting closer to the truck, within good time.
Brake lights go on only when foot brake is applied!!
Engine brake is often a valve in the exhaust that closes & creates back pressure & slows the vehicle, engine management will adjust fueling & keep things in balance.
Basically what happens is the retarding device puts the engine in a semi stalling condition & slows the vehicle.
The effect is transferred to the rear wheels through the prop shaft thus keeping the truck well balanced over all. All trucks are rear wheel powered.
Some models now do if they are using stronger settings
The brake lights come on with foot and trailer brake
God... She's hi Tech from when pop took me out with an 89 Scania 😳
Just watch for the noise cameras. Your safety is negotiable when revenue is in question.
Australia?
yes.
Compression break and exhaust breake are not the same...
I am professional long truck driver but I have no job and I need job
I thought the hake brake was just a joke answer on the multiple joice theory test😂
ha ha
If you’re watching this to learn, you’re not a truck driver. If you’re looking at this for curiosity to see if he knows what he’s talking about, than you’re probably a regular truck driver.
Here's another tip, when driving a truck, or any vehicle it's a good idea to look where you're going instead of at a camera.
Here's another tip no one cares about you or your comment...
Stupidest thing to put this function on a stalk. A design blunder.
It forces you to activate position A, 1, and 2 in order to get to position 3.
I drive this sucker every day and every day i curse the volvo designers to thought this was a good idea.
Please I am interested in trucking and I am from Ghana where we don't have driving institutions that train driver who want to go into trucking. Please send me your email so I can communicate with you on how you can help me.Thank you
