I saw and met Zach back in October when he was understudy. Derek was in (I think) Europe at the time so Zach was on for a small period and he was exceptional. So much chemistry between him and Christy considering he normally wasn’t in the roll. I was sitting next to his Grandma and her friend up in the mezz, and they were telling me all about how they bought their plane tickets the moment he told them he would be assuming the role for a bit. Really cute ladies, and Zach was extremely genuine when I met him at stage door.
He sings this with bright tonality and it just sits better in his range. In my opinion, his vowel placement and tone lend themselves better to the song than Derek's vocal choices.
I saw him last month, he was amazing! After watching some videos of Derek, I think Zach is my fave Dmitry though, he has got such a quirky way about him, and it was perfect! And his chemistry with our leading lady was so good;
He is amazing!!! I've only seen videos of Derek and saw Zach live so it's not a fully fair comparison but I really prefer Zach's Dmitry. From his first scene I was just like "wow he is the perfect Dmitry!" Because he brings a coy playful side that IS Dmitry. I thoroughly enjoyed his performance.
it was absolutely fantastic seeing zach as dmitry live. having listened to both his and derek's versions, i love both either way, but i gotta say zach's dima is my favorite! playful, very reminiscent of the dmitry from the movie. he and christy have so much chemistry too!
I now want to see him as Dima lol. He’s so nice and super chill. And I love how he interacts with Moose!!!! Also I think he somewhat sounds like Derek. But Derek has a richer voice

I do feel Zach was more of the Dimitri I watched from the animated film; Derek has a lovely voice and is gorgeous but Zach has more of that roguish aura that Dimitri had...kind of sarcastic, cocky, but charming and likeable too. Both have great voices; Derek's tone suited In a Crowd of Thousands. Zach's really suited My Petersburg. 😍
unpopular views here .i believe zach will make this play more active and more fun to enjoy .i've heard that derek 's last performs are not very good as before . but both of them are amazing

I saw Zach do dimitry and it was amazing! This song was incredible! His way of doing dimitry is great and sure he’s not the original but he’s still amazing! And a super nice person too!!
To be honest...I don't love it as much as Derek's version and it kinda seems like his voice doesn't fit the character as much, but that's just my opinion and maybe it's just because I'm so used to Derek that hearing someone else naturally sounds weird. Either way, Zach's super nice and funny (he even remembered that my sister and I had sat in the front row), he's a talented actor and singer, and I'm proud of him for moving up in the Anastasia world. ☺ ~:~

I recently saw the show and didn’t realize the cast had changed! At first, reading the playbill, I was upset that Derek wasn’t Dmitry anymore, but after watching the show, I can say I prefer Zach’s Dmitry more (and don’t tell anyone but I watched a bootleg of the other cast 🙈🙊). I love Derek’s voice, but Zach played him in such a boyish way, which is how I’ve always thought of the character. Both are great but I did see him live so I’m likely biased :)

My favorite Dmitry! He seems to be the closest to the original animated Dmitry's character; playful/a bit sarcastic/humorous/cocky but nice. Derek is awesome but I felt he was just nice/friendly and not as rough around the edges as someone who had just lived his whole life on the streets. He would've made a great royal lol.
