  • It happens to all of us. We mix and bake our cakes and they either don't come out of the pan at all, or come out in pieces. And we wonder, why did my cake stick to the pan? In this video, I'll show you how I grease and flour a cake pan. There are several ways to do this, but this is my preferred method. I've never had a cake fail when I do it this way. This method works whether you are fixing a store bought cake mix recipe or baking from scratch. Cake is cake. So here's how I like to butter and flour a pan before baking.
    This video is part of a 3 part series on baking layer cakes at home. I hope you will follow along for the whole series. As I upload the new videos, I will link them here.

    This totally saved my cakes this weekend! My granny always told me buttering and flouring the pans was the best way to stop your cakes from sticking, but I was never able to do it successfully. I tried your method and my cakes popped right out of the pan this time. Thanks for sharing!

      Oh I'm so happy to hear this!!! Sometimes grannies know best. lol If you bake a chocolate cake, use cocoa so the cakes are not discolored from the flour! Same process, but different dry ingredient. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

      Hooray!!! The butter and flour coating works so well. Even for a Bundt cake! Unless you had one that was incredibly intricate, then you might need to brush in a lining paste. But for regular cake pans this trick always works! I'm so happy your cake came out.

    If we don't have parchment paper so instead of it can we use silver foil in cake pan?

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes  3 года назад

      If you don't have parchment, just butter and flour the pan as shown. The foil would stick unless you butter and flour it, too. I would recommend getting the parchment so you have it on hand. You can use it with lots of different things in you kitchen, but it's a must have item for baking. But if you can't find it, skip that last step and do a really good job on the butter and flour. Good luck!

    Could you have done butter spray?

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes  Год назад +1

      I think you'd want to use Baker's Secret if you are interested in using spray. I tend to use the old school methods, but baking sprays are good. They are different from butter spray, and I don't know anything about using butter spray. You can try it and see how it works for you, but I don't have any experience with it, myself.

    Can i use this for cheesecake as well?

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes  3 года назад

      It doesn't work for a cheesecake. You will need something called a spring form pan. And you would not use flour over the butter with cheesecake, because it would not work with graham cracker crust or cream cheese. It would not look good. For cheesecake, you butter the springform pan. I hope that helps!

    • @jahnvijaiswal11
      @jahnvijaiswal11 3 года назад

      @@PattymacMakes can i use parchment paper on spring form pan before putting the crust so that the crust doesn’t stick to the pan?
      because i have tried baking it directly and the crust sticks to it and doesn’t come off.

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes  3 года назад

      @@jahnvijaiswal11 You could definitely put the parchment on the bottom! I would butter the bottom and sides first. The put the paper round on top of the buttered bottom. The paper will still be stuck to the bottom of the crust, but you can move it to a different plate if that is what you are trying to do. Good Luck!! I do love a good cheesecake. I have one I make in my instant pot, but I never did get the recipe made for the channel.

    Should we take out the cake when it's cold or hot?

    • @PattymacMakes
      @PattymacMakes  4 года назад +1

      Let it sit for 5 -10 minutes and cool slightly. It will still be warm when you remove it. If you do it right away, it will probably fall apart. If you wait too long, it could condensate in the pan as it cools and then your cake is wet. So put it on the rack for 5-10 minutes where its cool enough that you can handle it and turn it out and let it cool on the rack. The racks allow air circulation all around so your bottoms don't get soggy.

      You can skip it, but it is excellent insurance for your cake to release. I use parchment paper in all of my baking so I highly recommend investing in it. You will use it a lot if you want to get into baking.

    I used to bake cakes like this. But, over the past 30 years I’ve gotten away from this prepping due to the advent of so-called non-stick baking pans. Well guess what? Non-stock pans don’t seem to work and my cakes have still been sticking. So I’m returning to prepping my pans with flower. 👍

      @@carmelom269 Yes Girl!! I loved my Easy Bake Oven!! I used it all the time growing up. I know that's where my love of baking started! Parchment paper is some magic non stick paper. It's crazy. Nothing sticks. I use it for all my baking. It doesn't have the waxy coating like a wax paper. So not residue or off taste will transfer to your food. You can back chicken or pizza or roasted veggies on it. Fancy chefs can make a little tent and cook fish in it. Next time you are in the grocery store, go to the section with the foil and that stuff and look for parchment paper. You'll see it there!
