I just bought an electric chainsaw from Walmart. 40 watt Hart. $180. It’s awesome. Then I built a tool box onto my Grizzly ATV and now I tote it around my five acres Whenever I see a tree needs trimming or a small tree needs to be taken down that electric chainsaw is PERFECT to have around.

I love my Kobalt Pole Chainsaw - 80-volt - 5-AH battery - 10" Bar - 6 ft / 8ft foot Pole Chainsaw. No electric cord. I've been using Oregon Bars and Chains. I have been using it for more than 3 years now. It works great on my southeast Louisiana farm clearing property that a hurricane went through and trashed all the trees throughout the woods of our 18-acre farm. I carry it all over in our woods and the battery lasts a long time. Today I'll be cutting a 6-inch limb off of a tree out front. I am also using (2) Kobalt 80-volt 18" Bar Chainsaws and using (2) 5 AH Batteries. Cuts huge logs great. The chainsaw first chainsaw wound up in a puddle and stopped working but after a couple of weeks and it had dried out, it started working again. For oil, I like to use Ryobi Bar and chain oil. We have cut 20"+_ logs and works like a charm. And NO more pulling and pulling to start a gas-powered chainsaw. My first 80-volt 18" Bar Chain saw with a 5-AH Battery and charger was $400 in Jul 2021

That 1/4 inch hole that goes all the way through the bar is not for oil. It is for hanging the bar on the wall. There is a much smaller hole nearer the tip to inject grease and lubricate the nose sprocket. It requires a small inexpensive grease gun. The chain shares it's oil with the bar groove.

Good informative video. Looks like a great tool. I think using the 6 amp hour battery with it would be a good choice.
I like the Kobalt 24 volt battery lineup of tools. I'd starting to get a pretty good size collection of them. I like the idea of almost all of the Kobalt cordless line uses the same battery.

Great instructional video. I appreciate that you took time to explain the chain-tensioning knob operation and showed close-up shots. I like that you explain which direction the saw chain sits on the guide bar. For the first time user like me, these points made a huge difference. I've watched videos that rushed through these steps, which was not helpful at all. Great instructional video!

THANK YOU!!! You provided the little hint I needed to figure out how to attach the bar and chain onto my new Kobalt 40V chainsaw, which uses the same mechanism for attaching bar & chain as this one - complete with the little twiddly wheel thingy. The user manual tells you nothing about how to assemble the saw and make it ready for use - but your video, specifically the bit about positioning the tensioning peg (08:20-30-ish) told me what I needed to be able to put the saw together and run it. It was the tensioning peg that was preventing me from assembling the thing correctly because, out of the box, you need to move it to the correct position so that you can lock bar & chain into place. You're an angel.

I purchased the blower(120MPH) first and recently bought this chainsaw, they both work great. The blower came with a charger and two 24V batteries and the chainsaw came with a charger and one 24V battery. Being that they both use the same battery it is a huge bonus. The are light and easy to use.

You can use lithium batteries at any stage of their charge. They don't have a cyclic memory like the nickel-cadmium batteries did.
The reason lithium batteries are sent half charged is because that's the best state to store lithium batteries. You would think leaving it fully charged for storage would be best, but it's not. lol
    Sorry I'm a battery nerd.

gonna be a usefull knowledge base in the coming years. OPE is going cordless electric at an ever increasing rate. 5 years ago you couldn't buy an electric riding mower, now there are several models from 3-4 different manufacturers. chainsaws, weed whackers, pole saws, hedge clippers, and blowers have all gone electric and prices keep dropping on electric walk behind mowers. even harbor fraught is in on that game with a mower now.

Seems harder than necessary to find a replacement chain when the original wears out. Lowe’s does not sell one branded for Kobalt in the store. I tried the Oregon S50 but it was too short; going to try the S52 (did not think to count ahead of time, but my Kobalt Max chainsaw did come with a chain with 52 links). The chain wore out by the second battery charge; cutting down 5 trees (6 to 10-inch diameter) and then limbing and cutting up two of them.

    • @lowtide402
      @lowtide402 4 года назад

Did the 52 work? I just bought my saw and wanted 2 spare chains but it doesn't appear Lowe's even sells a replacement chain or has a recommendation...what's this all about? I'm sure we are all interested in solving this puzzle.

Do you drain the bar oil after each use, and do you fill the reservoir all the way up to the line when you use it? I made the mistake of leaving the bar oil after I used it .. and it’s been non stop leaking. I guess I should probably drain it but do you reuse the oil? I’d hate to waste it. Do you just flip it over to drain? Can I add just a little bit instead of all the way full so I don’t have to drain so much at a time?

It shouldn't be leaking. You can drain and reuse though. Yes, you can add a little at a time. Just know it does get consumed with each use.

How do you fix the washer from falling off the chain rotater

I've been struggling for over an hour to put the cover over the bar. (around 11:20 on your vid) You make it look easy but I can't figure it out.
....Ok, now 1 1/2 hours later I've tightened the cover. Is the chain supposed to be slightly slack? I can't adjust it to absolute tautness. Maybe it's supposed to be slightly slack?

Hope you figured it out. You should be able to eliminate most of the slack with the dial.

@@jodaddysworkshop786 Thanks. Would I be correct in saying that there should be about 1/3 inch pull on either side of the chain after tightening? i.e. not 100% tight.
