  • A look at the new 24v pruning saw from #KobaltTools aka a miniature chainsaw! For about $150 this chainsaw is a unique tool that might be a niche item that fits somewhere between a pair of pruning loppers and a full size chain saw. Kobalt also has a 12" full size chainsaw for about $40 more that includes a 4ah battery (instead of a 2ah) that might be more broadly appealing.
Thanks to @tools_with_tim on Instagram for the tip!

I bought this saw on Friday 6/30/2023 at a Lowes. I used it this Sunday on a small tree that fell down. I'm in love with this saw already! This saw cut up the top to the whole tree, and was going through limbs 4 to almost 5 inches around. Take it easy on the saw and use that bucking spike. Let the chain do the work and bear down easy on the saw. I was also using it on low hanging limbs near the downed tree. I highly recommend this saw. Use any bar chain oil off the Walmart shelf. And I also bought an extra battery at the Lowes. It was so much quieter and lighter than a gas-powered saw!

Another thing if u let it get full speed before cutting ,let it ride against the where the blade goes out, and not let it jump around from it grabbing, it never stalls. I cut several 5 inch logs no problem.

You are quite right and another thing is that when he was cutting the 11/2 limb he was putting his hand on top and putting presser on the saw never do that! Let the saw do the cutting and that goes with using any chainsaw.
One last thing this is a pruning chainsaw for limbs from 2 to 3 inches and smaller anything bigger go to the 12 inch chainsaw I just cleaned up my peach trees and some others today and the saw worked well.
One more thing I did move up to the 4 ah battery after the 2ah ran low after the first 10 trees or so.

This was a very informative video. I just purchased this chainsaw yesterday simply for smaller branches that may have already fallen out of my trees. I may need to reconsider my purchase but we shall see if it meets my needs. Thanks again for the video! 👍🏾💯

Thanks for the video! If you push the bucking spikes into the branch you're cutting, it will zip right through it without binding.

Thanks for the video, i do a lot of cleanup on properties that usually consists of destroying trees and bucking them down, i wanted something for lighter duty. I have multiple chainsaws, gas and electric, and pole saws and it gets fatiguing breaking down medium sized branches when you only have heavy duty equipment, i think im convinced to get this as i already have like 8 batteries from all the other kobalt tools.

Get it! one of the best tools I have ever bought and I am a tool snob.. I almost overlooked it because it wasn't a Stihl etc.... 2.0 battery is plenty good, I also have the 4.0 and it obviously loves that extra capacity as well. I like the balance with the lighter battery though..

I just got one and plan on using it mainly for cutting smaller branches that can't be snapped by hand (from my maple tree that fall to the ground when it's windy). Also I will use to trim think branches from other trees. I don't want to push it. I think it's made for small trimming. If you over do it it's just going to break.

  • @sandragraham533
    @sandragraham533 Год назад +5

For this type of trimming you should hold the end of the branch. Otherwise it bounces up and down and you're not getting a good cut.

So for cleaner and quicker trimming and pruning in the yard of 1" and thinner branches I highly recommend a cordless pruner. Last 2yrs I've been using the Tovia pruner with long reach pole. This does the job quicker and again without tearing the cut. For larger cuts the 12" Kobalt 24v chainsaw comes out.

Great Review, so when Kobalt first showed this tool I had just bought the M12 Hatchet. And I’ve been nothing but impressed with the M12 one. Plenty of power, I don’t recall it bogging down like this one did on those fist limbs you were cutting. I’d be curious to see a comparison between the 2

    • @fusonbradly

The kobalt runs way better on a 4.0 battery. But as long as u dont let the teeth grab and jerk the saw foward it wont stall i cut 5.5 inch logs and 11 inch logs just fine.

I'm about to try my new Kobalt hand over pruning saw like the one shown. I so wanted the M12 -- just the price point wasn't what I wanted. I was able to get the 12" 24V Kobalt saw (on sale) in addition to this one, for about the price of the M12 - so I opted for Kobalt. M12 is awesome from all the reviews I've seen (Project Farm did a great one).

Update--used the tool over the weekend. Worked great with both the 2 Amp and 4 Amp battery. The chain stayed pretty tight most of time but is starting to loosen. Can't figure out how to adjust it though, adjustment is not like my big chainsaw.

Sir, this is a ONE HANDED PRUNING saw. You shouldn't have been surprised by the things you were surprised about. You do not need a big battery. And you use your off hand to steady the branch when cutting toward the tip. You start the chain BEFORE you began the cut and it won't stall when given the proper amount of pressure. I have this saw and a Craftsman equivalent and they are both work great, especially the Kobalt. I cut limbs up to 5 inches with it. Sorry but this was not a good review. Most people who buy these already have a "full size" chainsaw and use this type saw when a pole saw or big chainsaw would be difficult or impossible ti use.
