You allude to it at 1:10 but I think a specific point should be made that, in order to keep your blade closed, you have to change the grip on your stick. You do it without illustrating it at 0:43 A natural stickhandling grip "at rest" would have the bade pointing up when horizontal across the mid-body. A slap shot grip will have the blade parallel to the ice in this position. So, the stick, in order to keep the blade closed during the shot, needs to be rotated forward in the grip.
Follow for long now I start my 4th hockey year. Still the shoot is missing strength. Thanks for those tips and I see your content got a big gap : app, online detailed courses, you are doing very good. Keep going. Sebastien

I shoot around 50 slap shots every day along with my daily club practice, nothing is working I feel helpless all I want is a great shot I really hope these tips work, I don’t know what to do
Please help. Why does only the toe of my blade always hit the ice? It’s never flat. I also notice your right arm is bent at impact. I think mine is strait at impact and that’s why the puck goes nowhere. I’ll take advice from anyone who’ll give it. Love the channel btw.
I know this is an old comment, but in case you are still searching for the answer, it may be that the lie of your stick is wrong. Typically, if the toe of your blade (especially when stickhandling) is the main point of contact with the ice, you need to increase your lie (go from a 5 to a 6 or 7 for example). You can also change your technique ... lower your stance when skating and playing with the puck further away from your body, and/or adjust where your hold your hands when stickhandling and shooting. Lastly, you can also play around a bit with the length of your stick ... get a couple of those 3" wooden stick extenders and cut one down to 1" and the other down to 2" ... try making the stick longer, and see how that works for you ... a longer stick will somewhat force you to handle the stick further from your body, and bring the lie you are currently using back into proper alignment.
@@mhicaoidh1 thanks for the info. I can hit a slap shot pretty good off ice because there’s no balance issues then I can really lean into it. I prob have to work on balance on skates more than the shot
@@jaretzaslow1449 Yes, balance is a big part of it. You can work up to better balance slowly ... when you're practicing, don't try to necessarily kill the puck on your slap shots. Focus more on the mechanics, motion and the balance ... as you feel more stable, add more force into your shots. Also, when you're working off ice (no skates) you are several inches shorter than you are on the ice ... so consider that with your stick length as well. For me, I don't even practice slap shots. I've played for many years, and can count on one hand the number of times I've had the time and space to rip off a slapper. I focus more on wrist and snap shots.
Keep practicing bud, you'll get it! I didn't really figure them out until I was around 13. I was too embarrassed to even try during practice. No matter what I did I couldn't lift it, but one day I decided I NEED to learn it and after about a week of straight practice I got a good one off, and then it just clicked and I started finally seeing some improvement.
Another epic video my man. Keep up the content, it's a life saver for beginners.
