Love to all. I think you should gather the eggs after she finishes laying, but don’t let Nugget set on the eggs. Incubate them if you wish, but Nugget is so precious, I think it will be too hard on him, especially in winter. I Love watching your videos and all your animals. May God bless you always!
I agree 💯. It's extremely difficult to hatch emu eggs. They've got to be weighed every day and humidity has to be changed accordingly in the incubator.
I agree with the Aussies. Let him sit on these. That way if you do have hatchlings, they'll be connected to the parents and will be bonded. Less worry about trying to mesh them together later.
Brook contacted Random Okie Farms and ask them about Goldie. She hatches and raises emu’s as well as other birds and livestock. She is very knowledgeable. ❤
Brooke, here in Australia, Emus sit on their eggs in winter …… and they survive our cold winters, which doesn’t include snow for most of the country. So I reckon let them be emus and let them lay & sit on the eggs in the natural time for them to be doing this. They don’t sit here in Spring so that’s not their natural way, which is probably why they went off last time because they got too hot. Hope that helps.
Interesting, if this is their natural time then perhaps let them do what they do. I was going to say they should ask their in house bird expert 💁🏻♀️ what does Mary Carl think should be done?? I would love to watch some baby emus running around 💕
Good morning, Brooke! Baby emus are called chick's. After they are a week or two old you could call them nestlings ( that might help you distinguish them from chickens). Emus egg laying clock seems to be inbreded to their Australian heritage and no matter where they live they are set to lay eggs clutches May to June And then October thru January. So it is entirely possible Goldie might lay eggs this fall. It is very interesting to read up on how they lay and when Nugget would know to sit. Because of Jason's very tender heart and great love for all your animals I don't know if he would ever be able to let Nugget sit on eggs. Nugget would be fine but I don't know about Jason! And I guess (since you did ask us) is to ask what would you do with 5, 7, 10 little emu babies? Whatever you decide will be the best for your situation. Hugs from N.C..❤
I agree with this comment. What will you do with all the little babies? You are wonderful and responsible pet owners but many other people aren't. There comes a time when there are just too many babies.
I think you should split the nest. Take half and incubate them and leave half for Nuget to nest on. If she lays less than 8, incubate them all. You can sell the babies. You bought Nuget one time, so others would want to buy them.
Lol I would almost bet if 15 eggs hatched , they will have 17 emus. In over 5 yrs watching I have saw them rehome a few roosters , a few goats , and a few peacocks. Less than 20 animals that I recall. The 3000+ lb steer , 3 wihered goats , multiple elderly chickens etc is a hint. Once the animal is there its 99% gonna be there for life. They are different but I understand and respect that difference.
👋 Let Nature take it's course. Surely Goldie would run to you for help if her eggs or Nugget needed your help. All the animals feel your love and protection. 😊
If nature was for a clutch to be laid, but in Alabama weather, not Australian, then the weather is the answer ... Therefore , the outcome for Nugget is of concern ... If when the first egg is laid You are able to form a shelter around the area that does not put nugget off then I would let him sit...you could then, after the clutch hatched, move the whole shootin-kabang up to nugget and Goldie stall in the barn until the colder weather subsides.... It's a choice and I wish you well with whatever you do finally decide... Brooke, you and Jason a wonderful and will always make the right choice for each of your animals... Love and hugs, Denise 💗🌸💗
Sorry I love emus. But...... If you take away their view they will leave the nest it is not safe anymore in Nugget's eyes He needs to be able to see if there are predators. The nest itself is inconspicuous And when Nuggit sits on it because of its camouflage, it looks more like a bush and dead leaves than a bird🙂🧡🧡
Brook please let Goldie lay her eggs, and incubation them. It would be an amazing experience to watch them hatch. Beautiful to see Goldie and Nuggets babies. Great addition to the farm. Your emu's are so beautiful and friendly 😍
Brooke, if you don't want to put Nugget through sitting for 60 days,I'd gather after she is done. Intubating emu eggs is quite different from regular eggs. You have to weigh them. Turn them. And mark the dates. So it would be easier if you could do it all at once rather than have it all different
I can’t help you, Brooke. My human emotions take over and I find it difficult knowing he will be sitting for so long all alone. BUT Nugget isn’t human, so I don’t know what to tell you ❤️
If it were me I would let her lay and always pick up all but 2 eggs so she would keep going back to the same place. Pick up those last 2 when you think she's done. I don't think my heart could stand Nugget sitting during the winter. I barely made it through the Spring. I was so happy when y'all decided to pick up those eggs last time.
I'd ask the raptite experts on the emu problem. They might be able to make your decision easier. As always we trust you to do what is right for the emu's. Have a blessed day 💞🙏💯
RE: Emu eggs. How about collecting as Goldie lays them and move them to a ‘nest’ in/near their stall? Maybe Nugget would sit there and he and the babies would be protected during winter. I’m curious to know if Goldie would change her laying spot if you collect them. Love your farm and family.
Hey there. Against the majority, I would let him sit on the eggs, but have the incubator ready and on standby if inclement weather comes around. You could also split the clutch beteeen Nugget and the incubator, giving him the chance to raise a small brood on his own.
Ms. Brooke, I believe that Jason's perception of Fall/Spring brood is correct. AND -'training/conditioning of the habits of all the animals' is the norm of a well organized operation. Also, if Goldie does lay this Fall, it will give you the opportunity to test your desire to see if you could incubate them. An old phrase I remember from my Mom - "Satisfaction comes from ' A well lived Life'..." Blessings, Graces and Peace to you and ALL the members of Cog Hill Farm.
If you let Nugget sit, I think you'll need to build a portable 3-sided shelter, with roof, that you can assemble over him and the nest and anchor to the ground. They can withstand temps in the low 20º range, he'd just need protection from the wind and rain.
I vote to let nugget sit if he chooses. Sit back and let nature work her magic. Emus been Emuing longer than weve been assisting. How cool that shes going to lay again. I pray for success whatever way you decide. But i vote let him try.
I absolutely love that y’all have ur mom with yall Brook. I’m very close to my mom and would love my mom to be that close. We r only a hour apart but I would love her to be here with me. My mom is the best and has always been. Y’all r wonderful to bring her so much love and comfort and family. 🐾❤️🐾
My .I'm lived with me for 25 yrs. She was my best friend. I miss her so! We did everything together. When she cou!dnt walk good anymore, I bought her a scooter and still took her everywhere. Moms are the best
It's a tough decision for sure Brooke. I tend to think no more babies wanted. Kind of like getting animals fixed. No unwanted babies. Don't feel guilty about your decision.
Good luck with your decisions. I don't know anything about Emu, so I can't help with suggestions. I would just worry about bad winter weather and Nugget. So enjoy your videos. Thanks
I would let them be emus and allow nature to happen as intended. But of course Jason and you are the two dealing with the situation at hand and providing for their care. I feel the real question is if you can deal with this situation, not if Nugget can. I'm sure you'll do what is right for all involved.
Emus are originally from Australia, as you know, and the weather is different there, so laying any time of the year is not an issue( maybe only the rain, no cold or snow) but when they are taken to other climates, their instincts don't change, just their location! They will lay regardless of the conditions, and it is up to the caretakers to to accommodate them as best they can, however they can. Whether that is removing the eggs or moving the nest or incubating the eggs( which is a lot harder than incubating chicken or fowl eggs!) Good luck with your decision!😊❤
You need to just let nature take its course. Let Mr. Nugget set if it happens. If you keep intervening, they may not keep laying if they keep getting their eggs taken.
Years ago, my mom and I shared a property line, and she and I came up with the idea to plant climbing seven sisters pink rose bushes. 3 years later it was going wild and starting to make my chain link fence to sag! It was a chore to tear that rose vine off the fence as that rose has a zillion thorns lining the vines. My mom and I often stood at that fence talking and winding rose vine through the fence lol.
Good morning Brooke and babies. It doesn't matter if you talk about the projects you and Jason do together, the way you give your thoughts are totally different. Never had those but they sound interesting. ❤❤❤
I would pull the eggs as they are laid. I feel like it might trigger Nugget to want to sit if there is a whole clutch for him to see. I also wouldn’t incubate them, what a handful that would be. Thank you for asking your viewers for advice, makes us feel more like the family. Love you all.❤
I like the idea of grabbing a few as she lays them and try incubating, but also moving the rest of the eggs to the barn and see if Nugget will sit on them under the protection of their stall when it gets cooler. If either way doesnt work, try again and let him sit on the whole clutch in the spring.
If you did this, you can always place a couple of straw bales outside fence to block the winds. So many decisions, sigh. But if GG FARMS is willing to try and Incubate a few to see if fertile yet, good choice.
You are such happy people with out being over the top . I can tell your emotions with out exazerations, so down to earth . Thank you for sharing your life . Thank you for being you , I wish you well .
Listening to you talk about how Goldies behavior and her poop has changed just confirms that you and Jason are very in tune with your animals❤ I've always known it but this confirms it! I honestly believe that you and Jason will do what you think it the right thing for Goldie and Nugget! I think I know what you will decide but I'm going leave that decision in you all's hands! Give Topper a hug from his biggest fan🤗
My thoughts are let them go through the process as nature plan , they deserve their babies many have done it they can too. N ug had no problem sitting it was his part and did it. Why not let him be a dad like nature intended. Love your videos ❤
BABY “Golden Nuggets” !!!!!!! I would love to see them running around until they are old enough to be sold/given to others that need a mate like Goldie did. That turned out to be such a magical thing for both Nugget and Goldie. They are always together now. It has been a beautiful thing to watch the bond grow between them. I would like to see them more often. I wrote under someone else’s comment that I think incubate them if they are viable. I would not want Nugget sitting for 60 days again. 💞. Well, after reading a few comments, maybe I have decided that letting nature take its course. I’m really undecided now. 🤷🏼♀️
🌟 Observing Goldie's behavior this season has been interesting-it’s similar but definitely not the same. A key difference is the cooperative bond between Nugget and Goldie. I think it’s best to let nature take its course now that Nugget knows what to expect. However, one intervention I’m considering is placing a warming blanket under the nest. This would help keep the eggs viable if Nugget is late returning. When using the blanket, make sure to cover it with nesting material, so you can turn it off once he’s settled in. Plus, you could even set it up to run on a solar panel. Just a thought! 🌞🐣
Maybe Nugget could sit on them put a tent over him to help with wind and weather. As Goldie layes her eggs. Date them. When she's done laying her clutch. Take some of the first eggs out leave Nugget like 5 eggs to hatch. Incubate the rest, share some with Catherine. ❤❤❤❤
I used to manage a school kitchen and we would get chick peas as a government commonodity. I would season and roast them in the oven and they were delicious. The kids thought they were nuts!
I agree with Jason. Don't let Nugget sit! Incubate any eggs she lays. Take them one at a time as she lays them. The new fence looks incredible! Can't wait to see those beautiful gates once you get them hung. Amazing addition to your property! 💖
My vote is..Goldie is one of Gods creatures.. She is made to eventually be a mom, as Nugget is to be a dad. Why try to " play God", and make the decision to allow or not allow them to form a family.? If it was not meant to be, then you will have a repeat of last year. If it is meant to be, then a new family would be a blessing. You and Jason and MaryCarl certainly have enough love to give them all. I would make sure that you would be able to find homes for them all also. Have a blessed day and God bless all!!
When I read comments from the Emu's Australian homeland, I had to agree...let their nature dictate what they do. If emus have propagated in winter conditions for centuries they will be fine in Alabama doing what nature says to do.
That’s a very interesting suggestion. I hadn’t given any thought to the potential repercussions of Nugget sitting versus incubating the eggs, producing a different reaction to new emu babies. Not necessarily negative, just possibly different. ❤
I think the eggs should be collected as they are laid. Winter is coming up. Would be hard on Nugget to sit that long in cooler weather that can change at any moment. Incubating them would be hard on you guys. Brooke, with your health and having so much to do already. It is a lot to do, weighing, turning etc. Plus what would you do with the babies? Wait until Spring, when it is better for all concerned. Nugget, Goldie, you and the little Emus. I want to see Nugget and Goldie raise their babies 🥰
OH YES!!! Dr Marycarl! Ask her. Debby, Marycarl knows so much about her featherd babies. Im sure that’s why Ron said that.☺️ I don’t want Nugget sitting again. Especially this time of year. Well, it would be better than the last clutch in the heat. I would LOVE TO SEE BABY “Golden Nuggets” running around! I’d say try to incubate. After you have looked at all of them to see if any are viable. ( not sure if that’s the right word ). I’m not really a Hummus kinda lady, but I love the spices you used. Was it smoked paprika that you used? That’s my favorite. I like regular too. Love your videos Brooke. Please keep us updated on the “Golden Nugget” eggs. 😁 Love from Texas!❤️
Also, You can reach out to Random Okie Farms. She knows alot about incubating them. They are much different than other birds but I am sure you can do it.
Not having a freeze dryer, i make chili lime roasted chickpeas. Uses 2 cans of chickpeas, chili powder, lime zest, lime juice, a little bit of sugar and olive oil. Toss , spread on a baking sheet and roast until dried and crispy. Very yummy snack.
She was so majestic i can hear her drumming when i have my EarPods in. I know nothing about emu’s but know they have a wonderful home with the correct food. I trust and support any decision you and jason make as i know its always for the health and wellbeing for the animals x
Hello 👋🏻 from NW Arkansas, wanted to thank you for sharing your day with me and all the tips and animals you are so blessed. I hope your health continues to get back to normal 😊
❤Morning Brook.can you guys put them together in a closed in space where she could lay them and he could be there to lay on them when she does.seems like it would solve the problems of not only her laying but him being able to sit in a heated area for all their safety even if they get mad at you guys❤lol
Hi Brooke, I don't have a freeze dryer, but I do roast chicken peas along with broccoli, cauliflower, and rainbow carrots, garlic cloves, and some red onion. I add the spices you mentioned, a little olive oil, and turmeric and black pepper for the anti-inflammatory benefits. I do use the canned, rinsed chick peas as well. I love watching all of y'alls videos!
After reading about the Emus in Australia, setting their eggs through the cold weather, I think you should let Goldie & Nugget try again to have their family. If it gets really wet/cold, you could set up some kind of shelter for Nugget, to keep him dry & out of the wind. That way, he'd be safer while he set, and they'd be bonded if/when the eggs hatched. Maybe, the reason the eggs weren't viable last spring, was because the weather was too HOT! I'm not sure that taking the eggs away would be good, because it might cause Goldie to continue to lay, or Nugget to be confused. Of course, the decision is up to y'all, but, you did ask for our opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide. We only want the BEST for Nugget & Goldie.....♥♥♥♥♥
If something looks wrong during Nuggets time sitting they can pull the plug. I understand Jason’s concerns,he loves Nugget. If the chicks look cold they can bring them in.
In Australia, emus in the wild, they lay eggs also in the fall and they hatch them out and everything is fine. It gets just as cold there, if not colder than you get in Georgia or Alabama or anywhere is down south

Y'all have a wonderful day today :)
If you want Emu babies ... incubate, please don't let Nugget sit, 100% agree with Jason
I agree incubate the eggs don't let Nugget set on them.
Yes it would be so sad to watch Nugget sit so long.
Could you give the babies back to be raised by nugget if you did that?
@kerlyn - I agree 💯 %
marie at randon okie farms gathers hers 1 by 1 ti incubate
You should put Didi in search mode. She might find some Goldie eggs.
That fence is going to be a wow factor
Love to all. I think you should gather the eggs after she finishes laying, but don’t let Nugget set on the eggs. Incubate them if you wish, but Nugget is so precious, I think it will be too hard on him, especially in winter. I Love watching your videos and all your animals. May God bless you always!
Hello Brooke and Jason you can hatch emue eggs ❤
No mum and dad need to do what nature intended 😢
I agree 💯. It's extremely difficult to hatch emu eggs. They've got to be weighed every day and humidity has to be changed accordingly in the incubator.
Agreed
Nugget is a pet and not an emu in the wild….please don’t put him through that ordeal again….
Let Emus be Emus. They know what is best for them.
Brooke we'd love to see the sheriff have little ones
*little deputies!
I agree with the Aussies. Let him sit on these. That way if you do have hatchlings, they'll be connected to the parents and will be bonded. Less worry about trying to mesh them together later.
I say let nature take its course, it is the right time of the year for them and they know what they are doing.
You should let nature take its course like you guys always do
I think you and Catherine should each incubate some. If Nugget sits on eggs put a portahut over him with straw.
I think let Daddy Nugget sit. If they hatch keep an eye on the weather and rescue if it gets too cold.
Let nature take its coarse...always the best way.
Jason does the best imitation of Goldie strutting! It makes me lol!❤
Brook contacted Random Okie Farms and ask them about Goldie. She hatches and raises emu’s as well as other birds and livestock. She is very knowledgeable. ❤

was going to say I agree with Jason, but after reading your comment I'm undecided 😅 makes sense to me, tho now , hope she reads/sees your comment. ❤
Yes their instincts tell them what to do…
With that said, if you don’t want babies, then gather them before he sits. 😊
Here here 👏
Interesting, if this is their natural time then perhaps let them do what they do. I was going to say they should ask their in house bird expert 💁🏻♀️ what does Mary Carl think should be done?? I would love to watch some baby emus running around 💕

I was going to say the same thing, had to check comments to see if anyone else said it 1st 😂 Great minds think alike 👍🏼💕
Agree 100% !
I agree , I was as stressed as Jason was about Nugget setting out in the weather, and winter is a different ball game to deal with !
That's what I was thinking
I'd ask the raptite experts on the emu problem. They might be able to make your decision easier. As always we trust you to do what is right for the emu's. Have a blessed day 💞🙏💯

I would let nature take its course and, if need be, put a porta hut over nugget while nesting.

I absolutely love the fence!! I cannot wait to see the gate up. Wonderful idea
And later on, if the roses get too wild, put in 2 more taller 4×4's and make an arbor structure.
Just a thought, I know Jason loves his roses.
Good Morning Brooke, Jason and Mary Carl…have a wonderful day❤
Good morning Brooke Jason and Mary Carl thank you for having me along God bless y'all love y'all beautiful job on the fence
I can’t imagine what Goldie goes through. 17 boulder size eggs!

Just as much as enjoying the farm, My wife and I really enjoy your stories about your farm friends. Thank You
I’m all for letting nature take its course, you have the room in the barn if you need a place to keep the babies warmer, that they can still get to.
I love how the emus followed you around the pond on the dam side. You can just see how much they love you & Jason! ❤

Jason is right. I would be worried about his and his children safety due to the weather. What ever u all decided will be the right thing.
I'd just let Nature take it's course.
The freeze dried chick peas 🫛 look delicious ❤😊❤
Good morning Brooke 🌻
I would let nature take it's course. Nugget and Goldie will do the right thing.
Good morning Ms.Brooke
Maybe Nugget could sit on them put a tent over him to help with wind and weather. As Goldie layes her eggs. Date them. When she's done laying her clutch. Take some of the first eggs out leave Nugget like 5 eggs to hatch. Incubate the rest, share some with Catherine. ❤❤❤❤
I used to manage a school kitchen and we would get chick peas as a government commonodity. I would season and roast them in the oven and they were delicious. The kids thought they were nuts!
Pick up the eggs when
Nugget starts to set and incubate then. This is the right time of year for them.
I agree with Jason. Don't let Nugget sit! Incubate any eggs she lays. Take them one at a time as she lays them.
The new fence looks incredible! Can't wait to see those beautiful gates once you get them hung. Amazing addition to your property! 💖
I agree with the one at a time method. Less stress on Nugget.
Let Nugget and let nature take its course.
Oh my. I have to agree with Jason. That’s an awful lot for Nugget. Praying you can successfully incubate the eggs should she start laying. 🙏
Goldie has really come a long way.
When I read comments from the Emu's Australian homeland, I had to agree...let their nature dictate what they do. If emus have propagated in winter conditions for centuries they will be fine in Alabama doing what nature says to do.
I agree with Jason I understand that Nugget is supposed to sit on the eggs but if you could hatch some of the eggs maybe they would love the babies
You need an expert! Contact Dr Marycarl, she's located in your area. She'll have the answer.
😂 Lol!❤
Lol, MaryCarl is their daughter
That time of year, I wouldn't let Nugget sit. Too stressful. Incubate them please❤
Maybe put a trail cam over in the area she is scoping out
Good idea!
Good morning 🌞!
I love that you put the results of the Free-Dryed food in the same video !! Thank you 🙏
Not having a freeze dryer, i make chili lime roasted chickpeas.
Let nature take its course I say.
Hello 👋🏻 from NW Arkansas, wanted to thank you for sharing your day with me and all the tips and animals you are so blessed. I hope your health continues to get back to normal 😊
Maybe grab a few and do the sitting your self and go head and let nugget sit in the spring🐼
Nugget sitting on eggs is natural and God gave them this ability to sit through all kinds of weather. It won’t hurt him.
Good morning Brooke, well I suggest incubate emu eggs this time .
I airfry canned chickpeas with spices for crunchy snacks.
Hugs and Prayers ya'll I think ya'll should let nature take its course.
Collect and incubate as she has them GO BABY EMU
