My grip-strength is approaching zero, from the repetitive stress of working in an unavoidably poor ergonomic environment. (Heavy hand-held power tool, rotary hand tools, etc. No way to position for sound ergonomics). The effect of my loss of grip on my sex life diminishes my feeling of virility.
From the sound of the articles that French rubs out, he has no such problem. Good for him, if changing the oil in his car keeps him so manly.

He’s trying to remember the few “manly” things he’s ever done. He’s obviously done or at least observed his dad do an oil change, build a deck, and lifted a weight or watched someone dissemble a gun. Why do we have division of labor then..? I don't need to know how to fly an airplane, there are professional pilots. Even under socialism there is specialization and you don't need to be 100% self-sufficient.
Now if you personally enjoy carpentry, you should go for it. But it's absurd to think we need 8 billion people with redundant skill sets.

To answer your question though, sort of..? I've always have a metabolic disorder so yeah kind of, I feel like it made me smarter though having to rely on intelligence most of the time. Although I have personally built a deck before.
